Connecting HDMI to Macbook5,1

I got my wife a 23" HP external monitor so she can connect a Macbook5,1 laptop to it. The guy at Office Max said I need an adaptor to make the hdmi connection. There is a mini-dv port on the laptop so I'm wondering if I can get link the monitor to the laptop via a cable that has mini on one end and a HDMI connection on the other. Is it that simple or is there some other cable or adapter required to hook up the monitor? System is 10.5.8 I believe. Thanks.

The Model 5,1 has a Mini DisplayPort not a Mini-DVI Port. You'll need a Mini DisplayPort adapter and a cable from that to your TV. Here's the various types of Mini DisplayPort adapters on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13#/ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_2_16?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=mini+ displayport&sprefix=mini+displayport&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amini+displayport

how to connect hdmi cable on hp g60 to sony bravia lcd?

    Hello sohagshahin,
It appears that your HDMI port is not working on the notebook. I will try to assist with this.
Have you verified that the port indeed does not work by trying other tv's or monitors? (try one of each if possible).
Have you tried other HDMI cables?

  • IDVD 7.04 on Mac Mini (Late 2009) Connected HDMI to 46 Toshiba LCD

I suspect that there is a video setting that is wrong, but has anyone been able to get iDVD to not crash with the hardware connection in the subject? iDVD keeps crashing right when I am ready to add videos to my project.

sounds like an awesome setup. Unfortunately, only one of my two monitors has an HDMI input. Also, even when hooking up just the one with HDMI to my Mac mini, it still displays "no signal" and I have two different converters I've tried. Perhaps it's just not meant to be. I will have to settle with DVI connections for both monitors...not the end of the world. I shouldn't complain.
Thanks for the quick answer and advise.

  • Connect HDMI notebook to Thunderbolt iMac

I just ordered an iMac 21,5" and would like to use it also as an external monitor for my PC. Does anybody know how to connect the HDMI interface of my notebook with the Thunderbolt interface of the iMac?

The Thunderbolt iMac only supports Target Display Mode from other Thunderbolt sources.
If your PC has Thunderbolt, then, yes you can connect to your iMac in Target Display mode.

  • Connecting HDMI and TV

Keeping a connection with HDMI thunderbolt and HD TV what settings in Preferences are needed?

I have a 2014 feb mbp retina 13" and have not been able to close the clam while conneted to a tv or external monitor both of which have their own power supply. Caffiene works for me and I close the clam with mains power attached and there are no problems with any heat from the laptop, while playing movies and games, it barely gets warm.
I have tried all variations of display and power settings and this is the only way I have found to prevent the second display turning off. When I disconnect the second display I turn Caffiene off as it sits conveniently in the menu dock so the sleep function returns should I wish to transport it elsewhere.
Should there be a better option in settings to achieve the same then I would be grateful if you could enlighten us all.

  • Connecting HDMI for external webcam?

    Hi there,
Please forgive my noobishness as far as this problem goes. I have a Creative Vado HD and wanted to be able to use this as a webcam, and I was wondering if there was any way I could do this with the MacBook Pro 15" i7? As I understand it, the Vado will function as a webcam only with an HDMI connection. I'm a broke college student so I don't have a lot of options for alternative peripherals.
    Thanks for any help.

  • 10.5.6 Install caused MBP to crash when connecting HDMI monitor

I just installed 10.5.6 via software update (on accident,) and now my MBP locks up every time I connect my HDTV to my DVI port via a DVI to HDMI connector. Both screens (my laptop and HDTV screen) turn blue, sometimes the laptop screen just gets a blue overlay over the desktop. Every time I connect I have to hard reset the machine.
I have a 15in MBP, 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo w/2GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 8600M. My TV ran off my MBP just fine before I installed the update, and now it just crashes.
I tried re-installing the 10.5.6, and also ran applejack, but nothing is making it work. Any thoughts on how I can fix this without restoring my computer? I don't back up my system files, so I cannot use time machine just to go back. Obviously the 10.5.6 update did something with the graphics drivers / software; I was hoping someone could help me fix this issue.
    Thanks!

If you have cloned the drive with CCC check the log files if something has gone wrong. Without using CCC just synchronize all accounts, though this only works when you use IMAP.

  • Connecting HDMI Cable to HD BOX

I am connecting the HDMI Cable to the HD Box and it does not provide a picture.  I does flash a DUI code when it tries to connect via the cable.  Does this mean I have to upgrade my service to HDTV for the box to work as an HDTV Box and the HDMI cable will then produce the signal I need for the rest of the devices?

No. It means that your TV and the STB have a failure ot communicate.  Search for "HDMI Handshake" and you will find multiple posts regarding this problem with the Motorola boxes.  The boxes (HD or SD) always have all the video / audio outputs enabled at all times.  Also, ALL of Verizon's tiers include some HD.  Supposedly there will be a firmware update at some time in the future to fix this known isuue (it is less prevelent than it was on the previous firmware version).
The only solution (really a band aid) is to use component cables (red / gree / blue) for video and red / white for audio.  This will still give a full 1080i HD signal.

  • Anyone ever connect HDMI - AV (Booklet - very ol...

Hi everyone, i'm located in Asia, near country side, so i don't have LCD with HDMI to connect my Booklet to enjoy movie at weekend. I only have a very old TV from China long time ago, there is only 1 way to connect (with DVD, projector, nintendo, playstation...),, it is AV (3 lines : yellow for video signal - red and white for stereo audio). I found that some in the world have a cable can convert HDMI to AV (link here http://www.evolucion2000.com/eshop/catalog/images/cable-av-playstation-2.jpg), in my country, i found some shop sell it, but when i try to connect, nothing happen).
So, anyone ever did it, let me know, and how u can do that. Many thanks!

As listed in the Tech Specs
    Micro-USB (for service and support)
What are you trying to use if for?
The intended purpose is when there is a problem with the Apple TV (from the manual p.29):
    •          If          Apple          T V          still          doesn’ t          respond:
    •          Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV.
    •          Connect one end of a micro USB cable (sold separately) to the back of
Apple TV, and the other end to your computer.
    •          Open iTunes on your computer, select Apple TV in the Source list, and then
    click Restore.

  • How to connect hdmi

I have a MacBook Pro and a HDMI cable which once did work, but no longer. Did  software change, did my luck run out?  What can I do to make HDMI cable work again?

The cable may be faulty or if you have an adapter, that may be the problem.  I know of no way of resuscitating a bad HDMI cable.  If you can borrow another one that is known to work, you can then determine the status of yours.
    Ciao.
