Connecting macbook pro with tv that only has dvi port

Hi community -
I have a macbook pro and a minidisplay port --> hdmi adapter. I'd like to connect my macbook with a tv that only has a dvi port. Can I use a hdmi --> dvi cable on the minidsiplay port? Will that work? Thanks for your help.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have to get a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and a DVI cable > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adaptor?fnode =51 Unfortunately, you can't use the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to connect to a TV with DVI

How do I get audio from the TV when connecting MacBook Pro with all the correct cables?

    Hi Lynn,
If you're positive you have the correct cables, and positive they work, they must be plugged into an input on the TV made for that purpose, then that input must be selected on the TV's menu.

It's available in the App Store as a digital download. You do not need a disc to install software.

  • MacBook Pro with SSD that has a limited disk space (120GB). Rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.

I'm using MacBook Pro with 128GB SSD that has a limited disk space. As we know, when rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.
My question is, Is there any method to get the rendering Projects file saved into an external hard drive which is connected with USB/ Thunderbolt/ Firewire, with huge disk space (eg. 500GB HDD).
Now, new project created in my Mac is automatically saved in (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects) and my Mac has ran out of space to hold the files.
    Thank you.

You have at least 3 different ways to show the project library:
    1) Go to WIndow->Show Project Library
    2) Click the button in bottom left of your window:
    3) Hit the keyboard shortcut (Command-0)
The project library will be shown, occupying the area where the timeline usually is.
Your hard disks will be visible. Click the hard disk where you want the new project to reside and hit Cmd-N to create a new project.

  • I bought a macbook pro in boston on October 25th, can I exchange it for the Macbook pro with retina. It has not been turned on - only the box has been opened.

I've never turned on my new macbook pro but I want to exchange it for the new Macbook pro with retina display. Is this possible. I have the receipt. Box was opened.

No - you have 14 days from date of purchase to exchange or get a refund. That should have been on your receipt somewhere.
I'm afraid that you're just going to have to sell your computer, somehow, and put that money towards a new one.
Why in the world did you buy what you didn't want?

  • Connect MacBook Pro with Mini DisplayPort to TV?

I have a 15" MacBook Pro with the Mini DisplayPort outlet. I used to have a PowerBook which I was able to connect to my TV via the video adapter. No such adapter is included with my MacBook. How can I connect it to my TV to view videos, movies, tv shows, etcetera?

You only need a cable from MBP to Display, i.e. Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-30-30-gold-plated-mini-displayport-male-to-hdmi-m ale-6-feet-cable.aspx
    It's only $9.95.
But you know, until now Mini DisplayPort can not output audio but only video. As far as I know Cable Matters Inc. has solution for audio output. If you want high audio quality Mini Displayport Male and Toslink Audio/USB Male to HDMI Female Adapter is good for you since it supports 5.1 Channel audio.
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-56-26-mini-displayport-male-and-toslink-audiousb- male-to-hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
The price is $47.95, a little expensive. You will need another HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to the TV/Screen.
If you don't require high quality audio this is an alternative Mini DisplayPort Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Adapter.
    Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-24-32-mini-displayport-male-and-usb-male-audio-to -hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
The price is cheaper for $37.49. You will also need an HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to your TV/Screen.

  • Help with Connecting Macbook Pro with LG AX355

So I recently bought the newest Macbook Pro with OS X 10.5.2. I also just picked up the LG AX355 model cell phone and have been trying to pair the two together to send files from my Mac to the cell phone.
So far, I have been able to pair the items without any problems. However, when I attempt to send a .mid file to the mobile phone, it connects and then gives me an error message on the phone that says File Transmission Failed and an error message on the Mac that says "The file transfer failed: the connection failed."
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have enabled the Bluetooth sharing already under my settings. Anything else I'm missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well the very first time I paired the device with the wizard, it told me that I had the option to connect to the Internet via the bluetooth connection I think? As though using the Mac, I could get online with my phone.
However, when I ran the wizard for the second time, it says I don't have any services except that a computer serial port was created. So, under the Bluetooth preferences pane, I see my phone and under services it says: OBEX Object Push.

  • MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013 thunderbolt port broken after 10.9.4 update

One of Thunderbolt Port (near USB port) was broken after 10.9.4 update.
I usually use mini Display Port to Display Port cable to connect my external screen, it works fine before 10.9.4 update. After 10.9.4 update, I tried to connect the external screen with the same cable, and the main screen of my MacBook Pro with Retina Display twinkling once so I'm sure the external screen was identified, but no video signal output.
I went to local Apple Premium Reseller (there is no Apple Store in Taiwan) and the they told me all of Thunderbolt Port was fine, they test with their own 10.9.2 copy and it seems ok. After that, I tried to re-install 10.9.4, downloading directly from Apple, the system re-install progress was complete but the Thunderbolt Port issue still there.
I connect to the broken Thunderbolt Port with Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter, and it works fine, so I believe the only problem is that there is no video signal output from the Thunderbolt Port (near USB port one).
    What should I do now?
Model: MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013

I can confirm that problem, too: Im' working with a Dell U2713HM display, connected via display port. Since 10.9.4 Update i'm experiencing random black screens and/or display going to energy saving mode. Today i've had this issue twice: Display going black and after disconnecting the macbook von all cables screen of the macbook remaining black. Holding Power Button for about 10 s restarts the macbook. After 5 minutes the same problem appeared again.

  • Connect macbook pro with iphone 5 via bluetooth

I have macbook pro and Iphone 5 both have bluetooth turned on. When I go in to Macbook Pro I can see my Iphone 5. When I go into my Iphone 5 it shows as discoverable and searching.....What am I doing wrong? The Macbook won't connect and sync with Iphone and vice versa unless I have a usb cable attached.

    Hello bstaab,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  To wirelessly sync your iPhone with iTunes, you need to be connected using a Wi-Fi network.  I found an article that has the steps outlined on how to sync your iPhone wirelessly with iTunes:
    Wi-Fi syncing
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable. Select your device under Devices on the left-hand side.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi".
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when all of the following are true:
The iOS device is plugged in to power
iTunes is open on the computer
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network
While the iOS device appears in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
You can find the full article here:

    I hope this helps!

  • Connecting MacBook Pro with Pioneer A4 WiFi speaker

I have successfully connected my MacBook Pro 15, OSx 10.8.5, with my Pioneer A4 WiFi speaker, both thru AirPlay and WiFi. However, when using Guitar Pro, the audio is about 2-3 beats behind the visual of the tab sheet.
Is there a way I can connect, via physical cable, directly to the A4 speaker? It has one USB port. My Mac has  2 USB ports and two Thunderbolt ports.

What kind of Mac & OS is that?
It's an older version of OSX, Tiger I think.
    Amen, I quite understand.
Thanks. I've read that the MBP unibody wifi performance isn't as effective as other laptops, so if I can't use a USB modem and the wifi isn't up to much then I'll be stuck with ethernet.
It's just a big hassle that I didn't expect to have to go through. Some friends bought a £350 laptop at the same time running Vista. Plug the modem in, and bang, they're online. I'm on my third day of trying to set this up, and I'm now having to look at new modem specs and spend yet more cash.
I'm waiting for a monitor cable to come through. I've had to buy the miniport adapter so I've already had to pay Apples £20 tax to use an external monitor that isn't made by Apple.
It's this sort of hassle and additional expense that put people off buying Macs. After a ten year break I thought things had got better, but it's not looking promising so far.

  • New MacBook Pro with Windows 7 only - need OS X installed

    Hi,
For my new job, I have been given a new MacBook Pro, but for some strange reason, it only has Windows 7 pre installed. Is there any way of installing Mac OS without trashing the Windows installation? I have booted from the Mac OS install disk and have the option to partition the disk via the disk utility, but would this delete Windows?
I basically need the MacBook to be dual bootable.
    Thanks in advance
    Greg

I am under the impression that Mac OSX 10.6 is necessary to install Windows via Bootcamp. If your Windows operates via an emulator you would have to have a Mac OSX install to access the application.
I can only guess that the Mac OSX is in some way hidden so that you can only see Windows. Have you tried to boot while holding the option key down to see if there is a Mac start up choice?
I would not repartition with disk utility till you have an answer as it would certainly erase the hard disk. Is there someone at your new job who could explain this situation. Be sure to follow up on this thread as I am quite interested in the explanation.

  • Help with connecting MacBook Pro with Cisco Routing and Switches?

I'm running a CiscoASA 5510 router with several Cisco WS-C2960-48TT-L switches on a local network to connect with MacBook Pro. I need to be able to restrict access to specific users via their computer MAC address. ie: Joe Blow is limited to connecting through Switch 1 on port 10 and anywhere else he tries to plug in will simply not work.

You need to look at the documentation that came with your router and switches. Or ask your network admin to set it up. Your question has nothing to do with your Macbook Pro configuration. MAC filtering is done in the router not in the computers/devices connecting to the router.

  • How can i connect macbook pro with iphone 4 via bluetooth?

I`ve connected iphone with macbook pro few weeks ago for i-net surfing, but i had to use cable. Now i wanna try icloud, and i`ve faced that trouble. My mbp sees iphone, makes pair, but fails to connect it. If i try it with iphone, a message "mbp cant be connected, it isn`t connectible device"-something like this- appears and mbp disappears from known devices list. How can i solve that?
    MacBookPro8,3 (17")-june 2011
    Boot ROM:          MBP81.0047.B1E
    SMC:          1.70f3
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
    iphone 4 16 gb
    model MC603ZA
    ios 4.3.5 (8L1)
    boot rom 04.10.01

I have somehow the same problem. I just bought the new iPhone 4S and tried to connect it to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6, latest version, model 2011). The Phone did not see the Mac but the Mac the Phone, so I connected the Phone via Mac.
It worked for about 5 seconds, but then I got this error message:
It's German and means that the network is not available.
Of course I tried again to connect, but I now get always this error:
It says that the device is not available...
I deleted the iPhone from the list under Mac and tried again, but it's still the same.
No my Questions to the community:
Why does the iPhone not see the MacBook?
    Why does it allways disconnect?
Is Sync not possible via Bluetooth?
    Thanks for your help!
