Connecting to mail slows Windows

Hello,
I noticed that when my iPhone is in cradle and connected to PC and eMail starts connection to check for email that my WindowsXP slows down. Specifically my mouse is hard to move around the screen.
I know this sounds weird but it sounds like an interference issue.
Thank you

Easily could be, might try disabling the Firewall fora test, or...
Might try Bonjour for Windows...

  • Mail activity window "writing changes to disk" slows iMac

So like many others, Mail is working very slowly with gmail. I even took my iMac to the genius bar, and I was told to just let the Mail program run. That once all the messages were copied to the iMac in All Mail then it would be done. Problem is it does this process every day. While this activity is ongoing it dramatically slows the computer. Here is what the Mail activity window looks like. It greets me each morning when I open it up.
Why does the mail program have to go through that process each day? Basically, I have to drink a cup of coffee and wait until it's done.
I'm surprised Apple would release an update with so many problems in native programs. (My Safari always crashes when I quit but I'll leave that for another day).

I've been having the same issue on my MBP since upgrading to Mavericks. Multiple times per day Mail seems to re-sync everything across my 8 Google Apps accounts (happening right now).
Nothing has resolved the issue, but here's what I've tried:
Verify All Mail settings in Google
Let it perform a full sync
    Rebuild inboxes
    Repair inboxes
Remove and re-add everything (they're all IMAP, so not a big deal)
Remove all Google accounts from the machine through System Preferences
    Delete the entire ~/Library/Mail/ folder
    Re-add accounts through System Preferences
    Open Mail
    Let it sync everything
Try with 1 account active versus all 8
And a few other things, I think, that I can't recall. I upgraded to 10.9 the day it was released and it's happened every day since no matter what I do.
Mavericks is great but Mail has some serious issues. I understand that Google has implemented some non-standard IMAP tricks that need to be accounted for, but I don't have any problems on my iPhone (iOS 7) with these exact same accounts -- so someone has it right in some way somewhere.
Attaching a screenshot of what it's doing right now along with the about window.

Ipod classic 160GB very slow sync and cannot connect to itunes store windows 7 ansd itunes 10.6.0.40. I have now been trying for 3 weeks to restore my iPod. Really frustrated, any ideas would be welcome.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

  • Time Capsule connection is very slow on windows 8

Time Capsule wireless connection  is very slow on a Samsung windows 8 computer.
Any advice? It is placed next to my mac and the speed is 20% less (often more)
If I move the computer into the livingroom (about 10 meter) the speed is reduced with 95%.

Windows 8 drivers are still developing.. download the drivers from the wireless manufacturer not Samsung and try it.
I am not surprised though at differences between wireless.. card using different chipsets and different antennas will give totally different results.
But you can help a bit.. setup the TC with SMB names.. short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
Set the name for 5ghz different to 2.4ghz so you can change over.
Set the security to WPA2 Personal which is the only one suitable for N wireless at home without a server.
Set 2.4ghz to manual radio channels and test, channel 1, 6, 11 in turn.
Try up close using 5ghz as it is faster.. but to get full speed you need a broadcom 450mbps card..
Remember wireless chipset like atheros and broadcom never quite see eye to eye.. it is one reason you buy the same brand.
Solution.. buy a cheap edimax wireless router.. plug it into the TC and use it for wap only.. I just did this for a friend.. works much better than TC or airport extreme on a PC. But I have not used win8 yet.. no idea if that is going to be problematic.

  • Mail in Windows Network slow and crashing

    Hi,
i'm running a new iMac 24", 2.8Ghz, in a Windows net for a week now. (Leopard 10.5.2.) Connecting to internet by a proxy server. Safari + Firefox run well, so does IE7 under Parallels Desktop/WIN XPpro. I receive my mails from an internal (pop) mail server with the same IP as the proxy with no problems by MS Outlook out of Parallels Desktop. But Mail on the MacOS gets no connection, although the account settings are exactly as those from Outlook. Also my .mac-account doesn't work. i deleted already the mail.plist – no effect. Trying to set up a new account lasted minutes and minutes as Mail tried to connect to the server. Actually it did load some new mail, but when i try to read (even in the preview window) mail crashes.
In fact, entourage/Mac worked for some days, but when i tried again today it also failed. From today on i even can no more load my .mac-mails via Safari (Firefox works), although all other internet connections run fine in Safari. So today i tried Thunderbird: nothing – no connection.
Any ideas? Does Mail speak a another language as Outlook, is it possible, that the pop server doesn't understand the Mail request.
Tried also my G4 Powerbook (Tiger 10.4.11), but i cannot connect with Mail while all other internet connection runs fine.
Greetings from Germany, thanks for any help! - werner

A lot of people have fixed erratic email problems by adding their DNS numbers in System Preferences->Network->Advanced->DNS
This has even worked for home routers and gateways that have worked for years with Tiger.

    HI there,
I have a macbook and am connected to a local windows network.
    I connect via finder/go/ connect to server / smb://........

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.
Check the server name or IP address ,

This is very annoying and I don't know why this is. It drives me nuts. Also if I am connected it last about 1 minute and the connection has been terminated and I cen try again to connect..... I'm having the same issue using my Mac.  I did try going through the account setup on my Mac Mail for my verizon.net account and it automatically set it up using the old settings(very interesting).  It wants to use incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net.  That actually worked.  I got a test message.  It was slow but did receive but sending one out from outgoing.verizon.net did not work.  Obviously they are having major problems with this switch-over.  There is nothing on the website about problems so my guess is they fouled up and are trying to recover without taking the fall again.

  • Mail slows to a trickle and then freezes - Activity Monitor shows all OK

I've been having this issue recently where I will be typing an email and I notice I begin to outpace Mail's ability to display the letters I am typing until finally it stops altogether.
At this point Mail becomes almost completely unresponsive. I can still click on the email modal window in question and move it around, but I can't access the Mail main window or click buttons and the menu bar doesn't come up.
The weird thing is that Activity Monitor appears to think that everything is kosher. No CPU spikes, no memory issues, no excessive writing, and no network log jams. So it actually never displays the message "Application Unresponsive" as one would normally expect from an unresponsive app.
The console messages that appear at this time are:
    Jul 1 10:37:16 Mac-Pro Mail[81954]: F4MUpdateCheck: Connection failed! Error - bad URL (null)
    Jul 1 10:37:21: --- last message repeated 2 times ---

I thought F4M was Flip 4 Mac, but I have no idea why that would be tied to a Mail process.
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome on troubleshooting this!
    Thanks in advance,
    Richard

    Hello Richard:
I have never experienced what you describe so I am fishing a bit.
    Try rebuilding the mailbox(s).
If that does not help, trash the preference file (com.apple.mail.plist) and restart.
One other thought - I have read that Mail will have strange behavior if the mailboxes are too full. However, I have no clue how +"too full"+ is defined.

  • Set up e mail to windows live mail

I have set up my e mail to Windows Live mail, when i send e mails it comes u with 'Server does not support ssl connection'. I have read a few other sites and says change the outgoing mail port from 25 to 465, i have done this and can now send, is this the corrct port numbers for BT. When i log in with live mail i then says 'The server you are connected to is using a security cetificate that could not be verified. The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value. Do you want to continue using this server?' I clock yes and my e mail gets sent. ANybody have any ideas?

If you have an Anti-Virus Application that scans incoming & outgoing emails you probably also need to check out that Application's setup instructions.

  • Mail Slow, re-downloading messages

Mail has worked very well for me for quite some time---but over the last week or so I've been having a lot of problems.
    Symptoms:
When I open mail I typically see only messages that came in 2 or 10 or 24 hours ago. Very slowly more recent messages will start to show up.
Often it will take a long time for the contents of a message to download when I open a message.
Sometimes all my mail for two or three months will disappear, then slowly come back.
The Mail Activity window usually shows messages downloading, often stalled.
The symptoms are similar for both machines. I've used the MacBook on different ISPs with similar symptoms.
    Here's the setup:
I have a Mini and a MacBook, both running 10.5.2.
I use Sync for Mail rules, signatures, smart mailboxes--but not for the accounts themselves.
I have four email accounts---three POP accounts and a Gmail account I have set up as an IMAP account.
The POP accounts all forward to the Gmail account.
The IMAP account is the only one setup to check messages automatically. The others are only there so I can send using those account details.
Mail is set to download messages for offline viewing.
I have tried: repairing permissions, deleting mail preferences, adding DNS settings and doing an archive and install on the MacBook. Nothing has worked.
    Any ideas?

I think I've figured out the problem, but haven't solved it. Gmail has a problem that will cause both the client AND web based mail to slow down dramatically if you are using an IMAP client. I have been using Apple mail to check my IMAP mail at Gmail---and that's the problem. If first developed in mid February and you can read all about it here:

  • Very slow Windows domain login over IPSec VPN

    Hi
I'm experiencing very slow Windows domain logins over an IPSec VPN connection. The AD is in Site 1, some users are in Site 2. Two Cisco ASA firewalls connect both sites by an IPSec VPN over the Internet.
I made some registery changes on the Windows XP client on site2 to let Kerberos communicate over TCP instead of UDP. Still the logins take extremely long (45 minutes). Profiles are very small, so there had to be a problem with Kerberos, MTU sizes or somethin like that. I already changed the clients MTU settings to 1000 byes, but login is still very slow. I made some sniffer logs...
Does anybody know what the problem can be ?
    Regards
    Remco

    Hi Remco,
The most common issue with slowness over VPN is going to be fragementation. In general below are the recommendations to avoid fragmentation
    1. For TCP traffic, use "ip tcp adjust-mss 1360" on the Internal LAN Interface on the Router. If you are using GRE then configure "ip mtu 1400" under the Tunnel Interface.
If you are not using GRE then the value of "ip tcp adjust-mss" depends on the type of transform-set being used E.g. AES\3DES etc, so you can increase the value of TCP adjust command from 1360 to a higher value. Though I will start from 1360 first for testing.
Also take a look at the below article for MTU Issues

  • Reader 9.2 on "Win 7 cannot connect to mail program"

Running Win 7 and have to use Windows live mail. When try to send a pdf page from Reader 9.2, I get the message "cannot connect to mail program".
Anyone have an answer to this problem? I've checked knowledge base and other forums, have not found a work around yet,

Sorry, meant to say 9.2.0.61 is the iTunes version.

  • Need some visual way to tell if connected to mail server

I'm hoping that Leopard includes some visual clue on the Mail dock icon to let us know if we're connected to the mail server. If you don't have the Apple Mail app window open you'll never know. Even Gmail notifier puts a red line through it's menu icon to let you know if it's unable to access their mail server. Long overdue for Apple Mail.
    lenn

You mean when an account or accounts are checked for new messages and are unable to connect to an account's incoming mail server for whatever reason since Mail does not maintain a constant connection with an account's mail server.
In my experience Mail already provides such a visual clue - the Mail icon bounces in the Dock when this occurs.

  • Anyone else unable to connect to mail.btinternet.c...

Anyone else unable to connect to mail.btinternet.com this evening?
Imap connection in Outlook is working for a change but the pop3 connection in Outlook returns an error trying to connect to mail.btinternet.com.
Is this related to the switchover does anyone know?

Since BT have changed their web browser and email log on, I'm experiencing problems. I have a PC, laptop, chrome book and iPad. Both my wife and I have trouble logging in after entering our user names and passwords on all systems. Click on the 'Log into email' button and not a thing happens. Eventually, after closing the browser several times, it will eventually work. Now if I log in via 'Windows Live Mail' it logs in every time. Now would you agree that there must be a problem with BT's new and supposedly better program. Only BT technical desk in Mumbai doesn't seem to agree! They also don't appear to know what their browser  and email log in pages look like!

    Hello,
I have very similar problem. Suddenly Firefox stopped work - It was working few days after ver. 4 update. I was looking everywhere for some solution but nothing worked.
    - uninstalled firewall - did not worked
    - added full exception for Firefox into the firewall - did not worked
    - Firefox reinstall - did not worked
    - Firefox complete reinstall (registry included) - did not worked
    - IPv6 diseabling - did not worked
    - diferent proxy options (no proxy, system proxy, autodetect proxy) - did not worked
    - new firefox profile - did not worked
    - complete coockies, history... deleted - did not worked
    - there is only one solution which partly works - I have used public proxy addresses for Firefox but the ping is (750ms), down/up (0.8MB/0.2MB originaly (10MB/2MB) and yes I have tried different proxy server from different countries from my included.
    - IE is working perfectly and without proxy
    - other companies browser - did not worked too
    - only IE is working
    - I have used three different malware, trojans, spyware, anti-virus programs and nothing
It seems to me as hopeless situation or very clever move from Microsoft, I am forced to use IE - at least this works
    Any ideas, solutions?
