Connecting to Maxtor HD using PC and Airport Extreme

I am trying to connect to my Maxtor HD from my new PC using my new Airport Extreme. I have the internet and my printer working, but having trouble connecting to the HD. I have updated the Airport sofware, and it recognizes the HD, but I cannot get the computer to connect to it.
Any advice?

  • Connecting wireless speakers to Apple TV and Airport Extreme

I've connected my Apple TV and synched my iPad and iMac with it, it all works fine. The problem i have is i have a Philips AD7000W wireless speaker which wont connect. Airport extreme can identify the Fidelio wi-fi network, but when i am asked to go to 192.168.1.1 and asked to identify my own wi-fi network it finds it but adds a 10-digit wpa passcode. I'm 100% certain this isnt my wpa (I actually use wpa2) passcode, but i cant check to see what it is as its hidden. When i try to put it what is my wpa2 passcode, it wont accept it. I've tried the installation process for the speaker on my iMac, iPad and iPhone have the same problem. All devices have the latest OS/IOS.
The installation process for the speaker is easy, ie find the Philips network, go onto Safari and onto 192.168.1.1 and the page will ask to find your wi-fi connection, enter your wpa passcode and once synched the speaker should work.
    Anyone got any advice?

maybe the speakers only works with windows then
or maybe the speakers require some special program to work I would most likely check the wifi speaker makers page and or forum for more info as to compatability

  • Internet trouble using Macbook and Airport extreme

I have a new Macbook and an older airport extreme base station. I'm trying to access the internet with a dial-up connection, however, after the base station dials the number it gets hung up on "connecting to your ISP" and I can't surf the net. I've contacted my ISP and they said that the connection is fine. I've tried everything that I can think of......please help...
    Jesse

I set it up using the cd that came with it and 90% of the time it is unable to make connections to the internet.
Unless something has changed recently, I'm not aware that Linksys provides a CD setup for Macs. However, you can access the Linksys's setup via a web browser, like Safari.
My question is can I just buy a airport extreme base station and hook it up to her dsl and use it as a stand alone?
You certainly could and it would work just fine.
Does it need any other equipment other that the base station and a wireless macbook?
You will just need an Ethernet cable to connect the AEBS to the DSL modem.

  • Using DVDs and Airport Extreme Disk

    Hi,
I have all my photos stored on a Hard Drive connected to my Airport Extreme.
My wife has most of her photos stored on a collection of DVDs.
Both of us use our respective laptops to access either the Hard Drive over the Wi-fi or to load up individual DVDs.
Both of us have very limited space on our laptops (hence the DVDs and Hard Drive).
So I have a couple of questions:
Where is the best place to put the Aperture Library file? Locally on my laptop or on the Hard Drive? If I put it locally and take my laptop to a client (without access to my home network) how will/what will I see in Aperture. Guess I'm worried how big the Library file will work.
How does Aperture reference the DVDs? What happens when the DVD is not present in the machine for a particular image and I want to look at it.
I realise these may be elementary questions, but I would appreciate some help
    Many thanks in advance

    hi, stewart
    are your photographs referenced?
    I would imagine they are.

if photos are referenced aperture will show you previews but you will not be able to make adjustments but will be able to work on metadata.
what I do, I have a small (satellite) aperture library inside my mbp for clients for exactly the same reason as you.
when I do meet with the client, I take the client dvd (actually 2 dvds one is a backup in case the first dvd gets injured we can still work -- they are only a first rough, removed all duds like out of focus etc) of photos with me for the meeting. I pretty much only show their photographs in aperture's full screen mode to wow them and I also make a slideshow of the 5 star (the winners) photos to show to the client with music. if off sight (not in studio) I tend to make the meetings at or after sunset for mood.
the main aperture library is on a separate external 7200rpm, 32mb cache, 1tb, esata/fw800 hard drive which I double click to work on in my studio.
btw, you can put a hitachi sata 200gb, 7200rpm, 16mb cache, hard drive on your mbp for more storage to replace the one it came with if it is a smaller drive or slower drive.
as an option I have a small 2.5 inch hitachi fw800/esata 200gb, 7200rpm, 16mb cache, external hard drive that I use only for media (photos, video, music) that is very portable. it's in a small plastic case and has a heat sink and is powered via fw800 to mbp. you can store an aperture library there also and it's fast.

  • Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 and Airport Extreme Base Station

I recently purchased an external hard drive and the newer Airport Extreme Base Station. I have two computers. 1 Macbook Pro and 1 PC running Windows Vista. I am having trouble downloading files from the HD over the Base Station to my Vista Machine. I can connect the drive directly over USB to my vista machine and the problem disappears. But when downloading files to Vista over the AEBS i get an error about the Path not existing. I then tried it on my Macbook Pro with no difficulties. I then fired up Parallels and installed the software on my Windows XP image and it works fine. My question is has anyone come up with a fix for this interaction between the AEBS and Windows Vista.

You said you are "using the express to extend my range and play tunes using air tunes". How did you manage to set that up, if neither the Airport Admin Utility nor the Airport Setup Assistant won't allow you to configure these two devices?
    Two suggestions:
    1. try using another Mac or PC
    2. look hard to make sure you don't have some sort of third-party firewall software or VPN client software running on the Mac than is unable to configure your Airport devices.

  • Wi-Fi Repeater using TimeCapsule and AirPort Extreme

    Brain mush, help please.
    We have:
Verizon Fios and the Verizon Fios modem router combo: ActionTec MI424-WR Rev F (Henceforth, AcTec)
A finicky, but abled TimeCapsule A1254 (TC)
And a new AirPort Extreme (AE)
    They support:
    Non-wireless Brother Inkjet (Bink)
    Wireless Brother Inkjet (WBink)
    Non-wireless HP Laser (Laser)
    Non-wireless wide-format HP DesignJet (DJ)
    2007 MacPro 17 (17")
    2013 MacAir 13 (13")
    2011 MiniMac (MM)
    2013 Windows 8 Touchscreen PC (Piece-of-Crap)
    3 iPhones, 4s, 5, 5s (4s, 5, 5s)
1 or 2 infrequent guest or back-up computers (GMac, GPC)
6 SSD externals for back-up and sharing (XSSDs)
Everything listed is proximated within 2 rooms except for the 5s, WBink, and 13" that are ~50' away and through 4 walls (2 are cement).  Wi-Fi signal wise, the 5s rarely picks up, the WBink was so bad I just hardwired it to the 13", the 13" is frustratingly bad with continuely interuptions, stalls, and disconects.
All three routers are broadcasting seperate networks even though we primarily use the one from the TC, until it stalls, then I usually switch to the AcTec which only sometimes works better, if the 13"s airport even finds it that is, it is weaker.  The AcTec is also more difficult to configure as it's not an Apple.  The new AE was just hardwired into the AcTec in the hopes that it's range/frequency/speed would superceed the TC's.  Unfortunately it's performing about the same for the 13" and 5s, maybe just a smidgen better.
Since we now use SSD for back-up I would like to repurpose the TC as a repeater for the 13" and 5s.  How do I do this?
Please understand that I am not intentially unfmailiar with NAT, bridge, Pvpv0, DNS, Proxy, IDNS, TexCode, etc. I just have not been able to prioritize learning, not when Apple make me encounter it so infrequently. I am sorry I need it explained to me like I'm 4 years old.  Thank you very much, I am grateful and really will appreciate some help.

  • Useing surfboardsb6141 and airport extreme

I am having a problem with my printer epson cx6000 since I connected my surfboard SB6141 to my airport, It worked fine with my Time Warner modem

Your TW modem was probably also a router.. the SB6141 is a pure modem.. the Airport should change mode therefore from bridged to DHCP and NAT on the Network tab of the AE shown in the airport utility.
I strongly recommend when you make substantive changes to your network you also factory reset the AE and start over. The apple simply remembers too much from the old setup and messes up the settings even if correct with the new.

  • Can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 Wireless Printer with the AirPort Extreme Base. The printer is NOT connected at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, and is placed in another room. It worked just fine with my previous router (Linksys WRT54G). Help me!

    Hey Guys!
I just got my AirPort Extreme Base, but I can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 wireless printer with it.
The printer is not connected to the AirPort Extreme's USB port. It is placed in another room, and I'd like to use it (the printer) wirelessly (not connected to the USB port os the AirPort Extreme), as I used to. There is no place for the printer close the AirPort Extreme. It worked just fine with my previous wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). I'm very disappointed with the AirPort Extreme Base Station because of that!...
    Can you help me? Please?!
    Thanks Folks!

This must be a tough one, no suggestions at all.

    Hi,
I lost my airport connection when I was using internet and when I wanted to re-reconnect to airport it gave me connection timeout error, I changed my password on router but still doesn't work. How can i fix my problem?

    Hello there hastibahreini,
It sounds like you were using your Wi-Fi network from your Airport base station and the connection cut out. You have reset the password on the device but the issue persists. I would try the 3 resets outlined in the following article in order to help resolve the issue. If it persists, is the Wi-Fi connection issue happening on more than one device or computer?

  • How to connect my iPad, Brother printer, and AirPort Extreme?

How to connect my iPad, Brother printer, and AirPort Extreme?

My home network has an Airport Extreme w/Time Capsule as the base and then an Airport Express and a second Airport Extreme to reach different areas of the house.  Is there a way to use the second Airport Extreme for file storage on this network?  Network is administered through an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.  Ideally, would like for the second Airport Extreme hard drive to appear on the list of devices in the Finder window.

    Ok.. gottcha
The problem is network wise.. Yosemite is about equal to tin cans and string.. pathetic.
Here is my usual set of instructions to get anything working on Yosemite.
The best way to fix problems is a full factory reset of all the AE in the network.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for AE which is router.. it is a problem for AE which is bridged.. you will need to set static IP in the main router by dhcp reservations or use static IP in the AE which is tricky.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Now mount the disk of the second AE in finder... manually.
Use Go, Connect to Server and type in the AE ip address.
    SMB://10.0.1.2
Where you will replace that address with the actual address. The network resource should be discovered and then it will request the password.. type that in and make sure you tick to save it in your keychain.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
Do as much as you want of the above... not all of it is necessary.. only if you want it reliable.. or as reliable as Yosemite in its current incarnation can manage.
The most important thing is point 6.. mount the disk using direct IP address and not names.. dns in Yosemite is fatally flawed.

I have an 2tb time capsule 802.11n Wi-Fi base station can I use this as an external hard drive and use a new airport extreme  802.11ac Wi-Fi for my wifi?

You can use the 2 TB Time Capsule as a network drive. That means that it must connect to one of the Ethernet LAN <--> ports on the new AirPort Extreme, or connect to the network using wireless.

  • Connecting Motorola SB6121 Cable Modem and AirPort Extreme

I moved into a new house a couple of days ago so of course the first thing that I needed to do was get the home wireless up and running. My ISP is through Comcast. I purchased my own cable modem (Motorola SB6121) instead of renting and used my own AirPort Extreme as the wireless router.
First, if you're purchasing your own cable modem, you will need to contact your ISP and provide them with the HFC MAC ID on the cable modem. Once you've gone through the motions, you will be able to connect your Mac (in my case Macbook) directly to the modem via ethernet cable and access the internet.
    Issue:
When I connected the SB6121 to the AE, I could connect wirelessly to the AE, but I did not have access to the internet. So, basically the SB6121 and the AE were not talking to each other despite being physically connected via ethernet cable.
    Solution:
After days of searching for online answers and forums (and trying different solutions) I was able to successfully get everything up and running. Make sure that you have 2 ethernet cables available.
    Here are the steps.
I restored my AE to factory settings just to keep everything simple. Here are instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728 Once you've restored your AE, make sure that both the AE and the cable modem are unplugged from their power sources.
Plug in the power to the SB6121.
Connect your SB6121 directly to your laptop via Ethernet cable. Test to ensure that you have internet accessibility by going to any website.
Remove the ethernet cable from your laptop and plug it into the "internet in" jack in the back of the AE.
    Power up the AE.
Connect your laptop to the back of the AE using ethernet cable #2.
Launch a browser. You should now be able to successfully connect to any website.
Assuming that you reset your AE to factory settings, it should just be broadcasting the generic "Airport Extreme" SSID. Disconnect the ethernet cable and connect using wireless to the SSID. Launch a browser and you should be able to connect to the internet.
You can now use the AirPort Utility to configure the AirPort settings.
I assume that this solution would work with any of the base stations.

I was having the exact same issue tonight.  Just purchased the AE Model A1408 and haven't been able to maintain an internet connection on my iMac whenever I tried hooking it up via the Airport Utility application.  So after I had the SB6121 connected to the AE and the AE connected to my PC with no luck, I then went to the Network icon in System Preferences.  Clicked on "Assist me...".  Then clicked on "Diagnostics..." and followed the directions which basically had me first power down the SB6121 modem and power it back up.  Then I powered down the AE router and powered it back up.  At that point I was now getting an internet connection.  I then took my ipad 2 and went to the Wi-Fi settings and noticed it was asking me to setup a network through my AE.  I selected that and went through the simple steps to set up the network and password and now it all works.  I am a novice so don't ask me why but I now get a green solid light on my AE.  I can connect other devices wirelessly. I can still access the internet on my iMac.  For whatever reason, using the Airport Utility on the iMac doesn't work in my case and using my ipad to set up the wireless network did the job.
