Connecting to SAP using JCO: Difference between SAP AS 7.3 & Other Servers

Hi All,
I am connecting to SAP system using jar sapjco3. I am able to connect to SAP system successfully. But I observed some difference in connection to SAP system between different servers.
1. Using TOMCAT  6 and JBOSS 5.1
While connection, when I call API from my code -
JCoDestination  dest = JCoDestinationManager.getDestination(ANY_RANDOM_STRING);
It works successfully and I am able to connect. ANY_RANDOM_STRING is any random RFC destination which is not present in     netweaver administrator -->  Configuration --> Destinations
2. Using SAP Netweaver AS 7.3
While connection, when I call API from my code -
JCoDestination  dest = JCoDestinationManager.getDestination(ANY_RANDOM_STRING);
It fails giving exception as
com.sap.conn.jco.JCoException: (106) JCO_ERROR_RESOURCE: Destination SAP_SERVER does not exist.
But when I replace ANY_RANDOM_STRING with an RFC destination name present  in  netweaver administrator -->  Configuration --> Destinations, it works successfully.
So, my questions is
When I give any random string as RFC destination in other servers, it is connecting to SAP and not in SAP AS?
Is RFC destination always necessary for connection? If it is necessary, then why ANY_RANDOM_STRING  is working in other servers and not in SAP  netweaver AS ?
Thanks & Regards,
Anup

Vivek,
We have the WebAs 640 Java system running on a AIX server. I placed the following folder under classpath
/usr/sap/<SAPSID>/JC**/j2ee/cluster/server/bin/ext/com.sap.mw.jco/sapjrfc.jar
The error thrown is
JCO.classInitialize(): Could not load middleware layer 'com.sap.mw.jco.rfc.MiddlewareRFC'
JCO.nativeInit(): Could not initialize dynamic link library sapjcorfc [Can't find library sapjcorfc  (libsapjcorfc.a or .so) in sun.boot.library.path or java.library.path

The problem is a search on libsapjcorfc.* only return dll files and no .so or .a files.
Wondering how ISA loads the native libraries on AIX!
Thx,
Bharat.

  • Using the difference between two shots to create an alpha channel

If I were to lock my camera down and first film a shot of a non-moving background (say, my living room), then take another shot of someone walking into the room and sitting on a sofa, could I use the difference between the two shots (the person walking and sitting) to create an alpha channel?
What settings in Motion would I use to get this?

If you really want to do it within Motion, try stacking the clean frame and the the frame with the moving person over each other. Then set the blend mode to Difference for the top clip. You can clean this up a bit with a blur and a threshold filter, but Difference mattes are often a bit iffy.
If anything the person is wearing matches the background, for instance, that will be transparent.
After you've created a black/white representation of the "difference", you can add your person clip again to a new group, ⌘-shift-m to add a mask, then drag your difference group into it and set the source to luminance...
    make sense?

  • Any basic differences between AT&T and Verizon, & other questions

I am thinking of buying an iPad mini with retina display (32gb). This would most likely be the only iPad I would ever own. I would use it mostly at the house with wifi, but would like to have one with cellular for when we travel in the US and Canada, and for when the electricity goes out. We currently live in a location where both AT&T and Verizon are viable options, but sometime in the next year we hope to move. The state is rural and mountainous, so as we drive around, my spouse's iPhone (with an AT&T plan) often loses service, but so does my Jitterbug phone, which is not tied to any one carrier (as far as I know). A phone can get a signal in one locaton, but then lose it a few feet down the road. So, there is no way I can choose between AT&T or Verizon based on coverage because both are options right now and there is no way to predict which one(s), if any, might provide service to wherever we end up moving to. Therefore, I'm wondering if there are any basic differences between AT&T and Verizon (or any other of the possible carriers) in what they offer or how they work or what they charge and so on that can help me decide which one to choose since it is my understanding that once I pick one of them for an iPad, that decision can never be changed without purchasing a new device. (e.g., I had read somewhere that Verizon does not allow for voice and data at the same time, but since an iPad is not a phone, is that even an issue?) Also, will the iPad work if there is only regular 4G or 3G service? And will a cellular iPad work without signing up for a data plan since I expect to start with only wifi and then add a data plan later? Thank you.

Alfred DeRose, Thank you for answering the second and third questions. Judging by what you wrote, I am assuming there are no differences between what AT&T and Verizon offer that affects iPads, other than looking at coverage area and the cost of "pay as you go" plans. And, as noted, coverage is not something I can base a decision on at this time. So, I either flip a coin to choose between AT&T and Verizon and hope the result is the right one after we move to wherever we end up finding a place to live, or I continue to wait for another year or more until we actually find a new house before I buy an iPad (or maybe a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9"to save money, but I think I've probably settled on an iPad mini retina 7.9" despite its smaller screen). That does not move me along the decision-making process at all, but it is what it is.
Greatcall has not answered my question about what carrier(s) the Jitterbug Plus phone uses. If, in fact, it uses just the Verizon network, I will try to pay better attention to any possible differences in service areas between that phone and my spouse's iPhone as we travel around the state to see if that helps at all. But coverage is so location specific here that I don't think it will.

  • Any difference between 16 and 32GB model other than capacity?

    Hi,
I've just had my 16GB iPhone 4 stolen, and it's not looking like I'm going to be able to get it back. So I'm going to have to dig deep and buy a new one. But I'd want an upgrade at the same time, to allow me to better cope with the loss. So I'm thinking about the 32GB model (also, i was pushed for space with the 16GB).
Is there any difference; Battery life, weight, speed, etc between the 16 and 32GB models? Beyond the obvious larger capacity?
As most will know, bigger hard drives are faster, mainly due to higher areal density, but I don't know how/if this applies to solid state storage. I thought possibly it might use more battery life and be slightly faster.
    Thanks.

No difference except for storage capacity.

  • JCO difference between SAP J2ee 620 and Webas 640 for Internet Sales

Does anyone have some information on how Internet Sales manages JCO calls to R/3 or CRM on WebAS 640?
Till J2EE 620 the sapjco.jar file directory had to be in classpath along with the relevant dlls in WinNt directory.
WebAs 640 Java installation doesn't mandate any such steps.
How does this work? The jar probably is in the cluster/server/bin/ext folder but what about the native libraries? How are they loaded.
I am having problems making RFC calls to R/3 from a web application deployed on SAP WebAS 640.
This is not the internet sales application but a general J2EE application and I was wondering if i could use the same approach as used by Internet Sales to load the native libraries.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Does anyone provide connection to SAP sys. thru SolMan other than for SAP?

I have had staff ask IF there are issues with having 'off shore' consultants log into our landscape thru SolMan?
My preference would be NOT to, as we have we would be generating long distance charges as well as the connections tend to time out during a period that they are not in use.
I believe this connection was meant to only have SAP log in to our systems for the purpose of trouble shooting issues for messages
    Anyone? please advise
    Thanks& Regards,
    Maria

I think it depends on what you want your offshore consultants to do in your systems.
If they have all access on the remote systems and on your SolMan, it doesn't really matter how they logon, wether it is using a gui or using the remote connections in SolMan.
    They have the same authorities.
So, a best practice...... It's all up to your own wishes.
All I know is SAP suggests that you administrate all your systems from Solution Manager.
1 Access point to all systems. And when setup properly, you only need to logon once.
From a technical point of view, I'd recommend setting it up.
As far as the workcenters are concerned, these are webdynpro pages.
They do exactly the same as the "normal" ABAP transactions. It only looks a bit more user-friendly.
Plus the oversight is better. The content of the tabbed areas is logically grouped.

  • Difference between passive and active data connection mode for  FTP

    Hi,
Does any body have the idea of passive and active data connection mode for the transport protocol FTP.
I have one server with FTP, I have to pick the data from this FTP to XI.
What is the difference between active and passive data connection? Does XI supports both the connections?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi
According to SAP Note - 821267
Q: Does the File Adapter support active data connections when connecting to an FTP server?
A: Up to and including SP14, the File Adapter exclusively uses passive data connections. Starting with SP15, active connections will be available.

  • Are there any differences between using Adobe Illustrator on a MAC and on a PC?

    Hello,
I'm about go enroll in a class specialized for teaching Adobe Illustrator in order to be able to use the program at work.  The company that I work at uses Macintosh computers to deal with clerical work and everything, so I would like to know if there are any differences between using Adobe Ilustrator on a MAC and on a PC.  The school that offers training teaches two types of classes, where one uses Illustrator on a MAC, and the other one on a PC.  The PC class is able to have an earlier start date, which is why I'm sort of leaning towards choosing that class as I need to be able to use the software as soon as possible, but if there are main differences between the interface that will affect my knowledge of using Illustrator on a MAC after I take the class with Windows systems, then I will most likely be waiting for the class teaching in MAC systems.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Oh and another suggestion- should I take the Illustrator class in CS6 or CS5?

Reading through the CS5 vs CS6 performance thread, the Mac version seems to have worse performance than Windows version.  From a starter's perspective the differences would most likely never be realized.  It will take some time to see differences between even CS5 and CS6 other than the visual aspect of course.
Definitely take the CS6 versionso you can say you have it.  CS5 is my preferred version, CS6 is garbage with the bugs it has for the type of work I use it for.

  • SAP BW-HR  & BW-Other Modules

    Hi All,
Hope you all are doing great.  I want a clarification,  What is the difference between BW-HR Mechanism & BW-Other modules (SD,MM,PP etc).
    Highly appreciate your response......
    Thanks,
    KN

    Hi.......
Look.........SAP BW provides data warehousing functionality, a business intelligence platform, and a suite of business intelligence tools that enable businesses to attain these goals. Relevant business information from productive SAP applications and all external data sources can be integrated, transformed, and consolidated in SAP BW with the toolset provided. SAP BW provides flexible reporting and analysis tools to support you in evaluating and interpreting data, as well as facilitating its distribution. Businesses are able to make well-founded decisions and determine target-orientated activities on the basis of this analysis........This may be related to any module of my SAP ERP 2004 like HR, FICO.SD,MM,CRM Etc.,
Now when it is said BW HR. It is the development of BW in the area of HR to meet the clients requirements according to the functional specifications .They may be in any area of HR like in the areas of time aspects ,pay aspects, OM aspects and Self Services like E-recruitment, ESS etc.Logical databases have limited applications in other modules but are very useful in HR. Also, you really need to understand the infotype time constraint concept. When you cannot get the information that you need out of the logical DB look at the function modules starting with HR* and RH*. These function modules will provide you with multiple ways of accessing data to save time.
    Check this.....

  • Difference between exits

    hi gurus,
    what is the difference between
    SD user exits
    and
    Other user exits

    Hi,
User Exit is a common terminology and it is not specific to SD...
User exits are hooks in standard SAP code, which allow you to add functionality. The positioning of these exits has been defined by SAP, so often you can't find one where you need it!
The implementation of user exits depends on the module. Some (and more, as you go to later releases) are implemented using CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION (see help documentation for this ABAP statement) - these are controlled from transactions CMOD and SMOD - have a look at the online documentation - transaction CMOD, menu Utilities --> Online Manual.
In older areas of SAP code, the exit might be coded using an empty form supplied by SAP. E.g. look at module SAPMV45A. This has many forms beginning USEREXIT_... You can insert your own code in this.
In other areas such as FI or LIS, there are configuration entries which allow calls to external ABAP code.
Up until 4.5, there are field-exits. These are triggered as the first action during a PAI event. They are linked to a field's domain, and can be made global for that domain, or screen specific.
Finally, you may need to make customer specific changes to SAP code. Note that if you choose to do this, SAP will not support the modified code.
What is User Exits and Customer Exits?
Difference between user exits & customer exits:
User exit - A user exit is a three character code that instructs the system to access a program during system processing.
SXX: S is for standard exits that are delivered by SAP.   XX represents the 2-digit exit number.
UXX: U is for user exits that are defined by the user.  XX represents the 2-digit exit number
Customer exit - The R/3 enhancement concept allows you to add your own functionality to SAP?s standard business applications without having to modify the original applications. SAP creates customer exits for specific programs, screens, and menus within standard R/3 applications. These exits do not contain any functionality. Instead, the customer exits act as hooks. You can hang your own add-on functionality onto these hooks.     *-- Mani
The following document is about exits in SAP :-
The R/3 enhancement concept allows you to add your own functionality to SAP?s standard business applications without having to modify the original applications.
SAP creates user exits for specific programs, screens, and menus within standard R/3 applications. These exits do not contain any functionality. Instead, the customer exits act as hooks. You can hang your own add-on functionality onto these hooks.
    Types of Exits
There are several different types of user exits. Each of these exits acts as hooks where you can attach or "hang" your own add-ons.
    Menu Exits
Menu exits add items to the pulldown menus in standard SAP applications. You can use these menu items to call up your own screens or to trigger entire add-on applications.
SAP creates menu exits by defining special menu items in the Menu Painter. These special entries have function codes that begin with "+" (a plus sign). You specify the menu item?s text when activating the item in an add-on project.
    Screen Exits
Screen exits add fields to screens in R/3 applications. SAP creates screen exits by placing special subscreen areas on a standard R/3 screen and calling a customer subscreen from the standard screen?s flow logic.
    Function Module Exits
Function module exits add functions to R/3 applications. Function module exits play a role in both menu and screen exits.
When you add a new menu item to a standard pull down menu, you use a function module exit to define the actions that should take place once your menu is activated.
Function module exits also control the data flow between standard programs and screen exit fields. SAP application developers create function module exits by writing calls to customer functions into the source code of standard R/3 programs.
These calls have the following syntax:
    CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION ?001?.
    Field Exits
Field exits allow you to create your own programming logic for any data element in the Dictionary. You can use this logic to carry out checks, conversions, or business-related processing for any screen field.  Example: The data element BBBNR identifies a company?s international location number. You might want to set up your R/3 System so that all international location numbers are larger than 100.
The field exit concept lets you create a special function module that contains this logic.
You assign the special function module to the data element BBBNR. You then assign the module to any programs and screens in which users can add new international location numbers. When you activate your field exit, the system automatically triggers your special routine whenever a user enters a company location number.
In 4.6c, you can use "RSMODPRF" program to create field exits.
An example of a user exits :-
    MODULE user_exit_0001 INPUT
        CASE okcode.
            WHEN 'BACK OR EXIT'.
                CASE sy-dynnr.
                        WHEN '100'.
                             SET SCREEN 0.
                             LEAVE SCREEN.
                        WHEN '200'.
Note that you can write any code that satisfy your needs.
But in this case, this was wrote as a sample code for reference sake.
    And you can test it
    SET SCREEN 100.
                             LEAVE SCREEN.
                 ENDCASE.
          ENDCASE.
A Short Tutorial on User Exits
    User exits :
    1. Introduction
    2. How to find user exits
    3. Using Project management of SAP Enhancements
    1. Introduction:
User exits (Function module exits) are exits developed by SAP. The exit is implementerd as a call to a functionmodule. The code for the function module is writeen by the developer. You are not writing the code directly in the function module, but in the include that is implemented in the function module.
The naming standard of function modules for functionmodule exits is:
    EXIT_<program name><3 digit suffix>
The call to a functionmodule exit is implemented as:
    CALL CUSTOMER.-FUNCTION <3 digit suffix>
    Example:
The program for transaction VA01 Create salesorder is SAPMV45A
If you search for CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION i program
SAPMV45A you will find ( Among other user exits):
    CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION '003'
      exporting
        xvbak   = vbak
        xvbuk   = vbuk
        xkomk   = tkomk
      importing
        lvf_subrc = lvf_subrc
      tables
        xvbfa = xvbfa
        xvbap = xvbap
        xvbup = xvbup.
The exit calls function module EXIT_SAPMV45A_003
    2. How to find user exits?
Display the program where you are searching for and exit and search for CALL CUSTOMER-EXIT
If you know the Exit name, go to transaction CMOD.
Choose menu Utillities->SAP Enhancements. Enter the exit name and press enter.
You will now come to a screen that shows the function module exits for the exit.
    3. Using Project management of SAP Enhancements, we want to create a project to enahance trasnaction VA01 .
    - Go to transaction CMOD
    - Create a project called ZVA01
    - Choose the Enhancement assign radio button and press the Change button
In the first column enter V45A0002 Predefine sold-to party in sales document.
Note that an enhancement can only be used in 1 project. If the enhancement is already in use, and error message will be displayed
    Press Save
Press Components. You can now see that enhancement uses user exit EXIT_SAPMV45A_002. Double click on the exit.
Now the function module is displayed. Double click on include ZXVVAU04 in the function module
Insert the following code into the include: E_KUNNR = '2155'.
Activate the include program. Go back to CMOD and activate the project.
Goto transaction VA01 and craete a salesorder.
Note that Sold-to-party now automatically is "2155"
    Hope this helps u..
