Connecting to Teradata with ODBC

Hi,
Has anyone work with Teradata with Oracle ODBC?
Thanks,
Mustafa

Oracle's ODBC driver is only appropriate for connecting to an Oracle database. If you need to establish and ODBC connection to a Teradata database, you would need to get a Teradata ODBC driver.

  • Connect Lotus Notes with ODBC driver

    I am trying to figure out connecting SQL Developer with ODBC connection ( set on to ODBC Data Source ) for lotus notes. I am able successfully connect through Excel with that connection. With SQL Developer , its asking for JDBC driver but lotus notes version (R5) what I am using does not support JDBC driver.
    Is there any way to connect using ODBC data source for lotus notes.

    No.
    SQL Developer is a Java based tool and requires JDBC. Theoretically you could use the JDBC-ODBC bridge, but there would be no point. SQL Developer is an Oracle specific development and query tool which allows connection to selected other DBMSs in order to support migration to Oracle. Lotus Notes is not one of the supported systems.
    SQL Developer is NOT a general purpose, multi-DBMS tool.

  • Data Profiler: Connect to Teradata by ODBC

    Hi
    Has anyone done this successfully? Cannot seem to get ODP to connect to Teradata. Continually recieve message "Authentication failed. couldn't open socket: invalid argument". User and pass# are fine.
    If I could work out how ODP uses the supplied ODBC parameters I might be able to get somewhere.
    Any help out there? All insight gratefully received.

    Hi Anirban
    >>>So what you are saying it will be a typically file/R3- xi - http scenario??
    this is just one of the ways
    in all of my fax projects that I've seen
    (but sending only standard SAP documents)
    my company always used a standard SAP fax server
    (many companies provide such faxes)
    so the integration is very easy (like printing)
    but if you use non standard documents than
    http integration can be the easiest
    >>>what about fax, i mean any chance by using a webservice??
    sure:)
    just look at google for fax webservices:

  • OWB connection to teradata through ODBC driver

    Hi:
    I am seeking answers to my OWB connection settings. I have installed OWB 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2003 server. The Oracle 10g database is on the same server. Right now, I want to configure ODBC connection for OWB to source database (all on teradata) on my windows 2003 server. However, I found from control panel
    /Adminstrative tool/Data source (ODBC), there is no teradata driver in ODBC administrator. (It is available on windows XP). How can I solve this problem?
    OWB perform ETL workflow through OWB server and source database. The connection between OWB server and source database must be set up. If no teradata ODBC driver, is there any other way to work around. Or should I update windows 2003 server to patch teradata ODBC driver to it? Please give me your idea and your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    look at this thread
    SQLServer access from AIX Warehouse builder
    What is the problem with installing Teradata ODBC driver to your Windows2003 server?

  • Teradata destination ODBC connections failing in SSIS job

    Windows Server 2012 R2
    SQL Server Integration Services 2012
    Teradata 13.10.00.14, Driver 14.10.00.06
    We have a situation where ODBC connections to Teradata destination database keep getting errors from time to time, not every night though.
    Some nights regular load jobs execute successfully and sometimes they get errors "There was an error trying to establish an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection with the database server." -
    one or more component failed validation.
    The faulty component is usually different, not the same every time. Package may also differ. There are 4 packages starting parallelly at the same time, each having 1 or 2 sequences of dataflows and sql tasks (about 60 dataflows and 40 sql tasks in total in
    those packages). Packages have been migrated from DTS to SSIS and this kind of error-situation has never occurred before.
    So we checked what happens on the Teradata side - many simultaneous sessions, validation sessions at first then TPT Load and ODBC sessions, but the number of concurrent open sessions never exceeds something like 30-40. And there is a parameter in Teradata indicating
    that max allowed sessions is 120.
    Two different kinds of connection managers used - Teradata Connection Manager, used in Attunity Teradata Destination component for TPT Loading and ODBC Connection manager to execute SQL Tasks and also for loading to Teradata destination tables in case of low
    number of records being transfered.
    TPT Loads take 14 sessions each, ODBC destination and validation sessions apparently 1 per validation/component.
    What could be the reason for this error? Where to look, what to check?
    Thanks for any advice!

    Sorry the information given doesnt help much to understand the root cause. Anyways something you could do is to set delay validation to true so that actual error you will get at runtime rather than a validation failed message as above. One more thing you
    can try is running packages one at a time and see if error occurs. Also see if multiple packages running in parallel are using same object.

  • Can I connect to SAP database directly with ODBC?

    I need to read data from SAP and write them into ms sqlserver. I wrote a RFC in SAP and used VB.NET to call RFC. I wonder that the RFC efficency is very slow while reading a great lot data. RFC also cannot support complex condition string, and it cannot fetch my data flexibly.
    I found that the user who was included in a user group "db<sid>adm" could connect to db2 udb with ODBC in VB6.0 or VB.NET. I also can use the SQL sentence to get data flexibly.
    Please tell me whether I can use this user to read (just using select sentense) data from DB2 UDB directly, or whether I can use the newly created user to get data. Will this method cause any problem ?

    > Will this method cause any problem ?
    Pretty likely: yes, it will.
    You may want to read this thread Retrive Data From SAP Using C Language first (and the blogs I refered to in it).
    What it boils down to is: you're trying a super-low-level access to data in order to perform a high-level business data exchange.
    You could as well hex-read the data files of the database or the blocks from your hard disks.
    There are a bunch of options to remote access data in SAP systems and maybe your RFC can be tuned to better support your needs.
    But don't move over to the 'dark side' of direct database access

  • How to connect SAP-BW with DataSul via ODBC

    Hi Experts,
    does anyone know the steps to be performed to connect a DataSul-ERP with SAP-BW to extract data. I just know that it should work with ODBC, but honestly I do not know the driver which I need to install nor further details (complete setup).
    Thanks for your help,
    Harald

    Hi Masila,
    this is information related to the eyxact SAP system you want to connect to and can either be extracted from your SAP logon file (saplogon.ini) or by asking your SAP administrator. Do you have SAP GUI (ie. SAP Client) installed on your computer?

  • Database fileds are not coming when connecting with ado and they are coming when connecting with odbc

    Post Author: yagya
    CA Forum: .NET
    Hi , I am using crystal report XI R2 in visual studio 2005 . Backend is sql server 2000. I have made a connection with odbc connectivity and using dsn. I am using a stored procedure as datasource of report. It is working fine all the database fields are available. Now when i try to connect with the ado connection having same stored procedure as datasource of report , I am not getting data fields. I dont know where is the problem in my stored procedure or in report. But when i connect through system dsn using odbc connectivity everything is working fine. A MAP filed dialogue box appears when i try to change the datasource location to ado from odbc.

    There is a barely acknowledged issue. For Mac users Apple has released an update to the app, but for iOS users the recommendation is for users to update their ipad to the most recent operating system.
    There may be a fix coming for iOS6 users (which seem to be many of those having problems) or there may not be. If your ipad isn't up to date then you can update it and see if that helps, or if you don't want to update then you may want to wait and see if there is either a fix or if it fixes itself.

  • Database Connection Error 42000:[Microsoft][ODBC driver for oracle] Syntax

    Hi,
      This is Sathish, I am trying to create a report and retrieve data through stored procedure using ODBC Connection. When connecting to the Stored Procedure it is showing Database Connection Error 42000:[Microsoft][ODBC driver for oracle] Syntax error or access violation' Error.
    CRXI R2, Oracle 9i.
    What do i do to solve this issue.
    Regards,
    Sathish

    Hi Satish
    It could be an issue with the driver.
    You can try with the OLEDB n Oracle native connection to test if the issue persists.
    Also you can refer to the [Troubleshooting Database Connectivity for Crystal Reports|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/d05b3bb7-0f28-2c10-4ea3-84dbdc4e414e&overridelayout=true]
    Hope this helps!!

  • Instant client with ODBC driver

    Hi, I have problem with the instant client version 10.2 with ODBC driver. I have the instant client base package and ODBC package installed in my computer. the Oracle ODBC driver did appear in the ODBC driver list, when I test the connection with driver, it gives error "Unable to connect, SQLState=08004 [ORACLE] [ODBC] ORA-12154 TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified" I have another computer which has Oracle 8i client installed and works fine. I copied sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora to the instantclient installation folder, same error appears. here is the contents of sqlnet.ora:
    # SQLNET.ORA Network Configuration File: c:\oracle8i\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
    here is the contents of tnsname.ora:
    # TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: c:\oracle8i\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    barkeep =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = barkeep)
    I test the host connection with telnet, it works.
    can anybody out there walk me through how to set up instant client?
    thanks.

    Thanks Sanjay - I had this problem and your suggestion fixed it: setting the TNS_ADMIN did the trick.
    Note: This was on a development PC which already had the Oracle Client drivers installed (so I already had a different TNS_NAMES.ORA in that installation).
    It is worth noting that on my target deployment machine which DOESN'T have the Oracle Client drivers (just the InstantClient + Instant-ODBC) I didn't need to set TNS_ADMIN
    I'm using the 11g InstantClient (11.1.0.6.0 32 bit)
    Hope this helps someone, and thanks again Sanjay for posting :o)

  • How to connect Forms 6i with MS Access

    Dear All:
    Can we connect Forms 6i with MS Access? If yes then how? Any document? Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Hassan

    Thanks Jose for your suggestions:
    I am sorry I did not use the search utility of Forum.
    Anyway I have connect the Forms 6i with MS Access
    I created two text item in a Non-Database block and write following coding on a Push Button:
    declare
    connection_id EXEC_SQL.CONNTYPE;
    cursorID EXEC_SQL.CURSTYPE;
    sqlstr VARCHAR2(1000);
    d1 VARCHAR2(100);
    d2 NUMBER;
    nIgn PLS_INTEGER;
    nRows PLS_INTEGER := 0;
    BEGIN
    connection_id := EXEC_SQL.OPEN_CONNECTION('hsn','hsn','odbc:test');
    cursorID := EXEC_SQL.OPEN_CURSOR(connection_id);
    sqlstr := 'select d1,d2 from abdali ';
    EXEC_SQL.PARSE(connection_id, cursorID, sqlstr, exec_sql.V7);
    EXEC_SQL.BIND_VARIABLE(connection_id, cursorID, '', '');
    EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(connection_id, cursorID, 1, d1, 100);
    EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(connection_id, cursorID, 2, d2, 100);
    nIgn := EXEC_SQL.EXECUTE(connection_id, cursorID);
    WHILE (EXEC_SQL.FETCH_ROWS(connection_id, cursorID) > 0 ) LOOP
    nRows := nRows + 1;
    EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(connection_id, cursorID, 1, :d1);
    --EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(connection_id, cursorID, 2, :d2);
    next_record;
    END LOOP;
    message(nrows);
    IF (nRows <= 0) THEN
    TEXT_IO.PUT_LINE ('Warning: query returned no rows');
    END IF;
    END;
    I can retrieve the data from MS Access but there is a problem occured.
    The data type of one column in Access is defined as Intiger
    I also defined a text item in form as Intiger but when retrieved then it returned following error:
    FRM-40735: WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-306500.
    I remarked the following coding it works fine.
    EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(connection_id, cursorID, 2, :d2);
    Any suggestions: I also read the OCA_INFO.pdf but did not find how to handle this type of problem.
    If you can help me to find out how to match the data types of both the databases?
    Also can I insert the data from a Database Block of Oracle into MS-ACCESS thru write code on the Button.
    Thanks for help
