Connecting to Windows PC from iMac

I manage to get a connection but I get SMB/CISF File System Authentication asking for a password but I don't have a password to the windows profile.
How do I get past it?
It shows;
Workgroup - I understand this and it shows the right work group
Name: - Is this the windows profile name?
Password: - Is this the windows profile password?

  • Connecting to Windows computer from Mac

    So here is my issue:
I can connect to my Mac from my PC, but not the other way around.
Both of my machines have internet, and my mac is on a wireless connection.
I want to know how I can access the files from my Windows machine from my Mac.
This is what ive tried so far, and every time I enter in the address it tells me I have entered in a wrong user name or password when I have not had the change to enter anything in!
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1164.html
Am I dealing with an OS X problem here or am I dealing with an XP problem? Wherever the issue is coming from, is it fixable?

Might be both... OSX will/can send past passwords & such before asking, but this site should fix you up. Also might need to ensure they are both the same Workgroup.
Is that smb://+ the IP you're entering?

  • Local network: sharing of printers connected to a pc windows xp from imac

    hello,
i have a local network made of:
-an imac 24 with leopard 10.5.6
    -and a pc with windows xp sp2 on which two printers (hplaser & epson) are connected in a mode sharing status;
the network is connected to internet by a router; all links are ethernet cable in the network;i use bit defender 2009 as antivirus in the pc (my pc is indiquated without virus by bitdefender)
    I can share from the imac my file in the pc through the net work (192.168.1.3);
the working group name is the same on imac and pc (this is why I can share files)
    but I cannot share the printers; none is visible through the menu fax & printers under windows; even the name of the working goup does not appear;
    the apple assistance could not answer that simple question;
has anybody a solution for this simple mixed configuration
(before i was using windows 2000 pro which created no problem for this sharing of printer between imac and pc-now with xp sp2 it seems cumbersome...)
thank you for your kind help

    Hi campbellpauln,
On your Win7 computer, remove any previous install attempt.  Then run the driver install for your computer, you can download a Win7 driver for your printer.
When it gets to the connect a USB cable screen, just put a check in the "I'm not going to connect now" box.
This will load the driver on your computer.
This time when you go to add printer and connect across the network to the shared printer, your Win7 computer should list this model and just install.

  • My home sharing is not working - connection is dropping out from iMac to iOS devices

I have a 2011 iMac running Mountain Lion, and am having real problems accessing my itunes library with my iOS devices (I had the same problem with Apple TV before I bought a set of power line adapters and now running an Ethernet into it). I keep my iMac on all the time, but every day I have to quit then reopen iTunes for any chance of accessing my content on my iPhone or iPad. Otherwise Even when the 'sharing' icon is there on my devices (which it always is) it just hangs when I press it. I have had this problem for over a year, but have only just starting wanting to access my library from iPad. I am using AirPort Extreme as a base station.
    Any ideas?

Powerline adapters use your home powerlines (mains a/c) to connect your devices via ethernet to your modem, they're easy to set up and the they TOTALLY fixed my ATV problem, the problem seems to be with the wireless. I've been trawling through apple discussions, and did found a workaround to my problem https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4222883?start=0&tstart=0
but its just a workaround :/

  • Uninstall windows XP from iMac running Mavericks

I wish to uninstall windows XP service pack 3 from my iMac running Mavericks I have removed all I can see but it still appears to be in the back ground any help please

The Virtual Machine you created (windows XP service pack 3) is located in your /Documents/Parallels folder or in /Users/Shared/Parallels folder. If all you want to do is delete it, you can go to that folder and drag the VM file to the trash. I use Fusion rather than Parallels and in Fusion, you can right click on the virtual machine name and one of the choices is to delete it. I'd imagine Parallels has something similar.
BTW, although Microsoft is no longer supporting XP with security updates, Microsoft Security Essentials can still be forced to download and install the latest virus definitions. You just have to tell Security Essentials to update itself.

  • Connecting to windows networks from a mac

I have a G5 with airport card installed which is connected via ethernet to an airport express, and there are several wireless networks provided by my school nearby which I am unable to connect to through either my card or the express. Meanwhile, my friend has a windows laptop (which I'm typing on now) that is able to access these networks correctly, and detects them automatically. Is there any way I can configure my G5 to connect to these? I've tried connecting to the networks in question manually (there's no password), but am unable to do so, as it gives me a generic error 'there was an error joining the Airport network "<network name>".' Is there a specific configuration issue that's preventing me from accessing the networks, or are they only accessable from Windows computers?

The cable connects my computer to my airport express, which I've used in the past to extend my range (especially at home). However, even with the cable disconnected and the express unplugged I am still unable to connect to the school network. Any other thoughts?

  • Sharing ethernet connection with airport card from ( iMac 17" intel)

I have recently upgraded from a 800 15" iMac to a new 17" intel iMac - before the upgrade it would share the ethernet connection to the internet with sharing and broadcast the signal to my FW800 powerbook ( or any other mac in the house ( no problems)
Now with the new Imac set up I enable sharing ethernet connection to computers using airport ( same as before) I can see the computer ( sharing the connection) in the airport menu of my FW 800 PB - when I try and connect I get an error message ?
Looking for any tips or direction? I searched this forum ans apple support pages and did not find an answer... PB = OS 10.3.9 - Imac = OS 10.4.5

    Hey thanks for the welcome!
The error message said " there is an error in connecting to ..."
OK ( after just checking it again) go figure - I turned off sharing ethernet connection to computers using airport on the iMac - and turned it back on and voila! I am now connected using the PB - ??? Must have been a reset issue?
lets see if this is a solid connection...
    Thanks for the fast reply!

  • How do I add Macbook air to my windows network and how do I connect to windows shares from said Macbook?

Finally, I have a "clued in" boss who wanted a Macbook air.  I have it, and I can get to the internet by supplying the correct proxy credentials.  My issue is trying to connect him to windows shares on my network?  I know how to do this cold for adding a PC, But need some 101 on how to take this awesome macbook air and add it to the domain and how to get connected to various shares within my DOMAIN.  as well as use network printers (I assume that is pretty easy). . .  I should add that I can ping the servers in question, I am just not familiar with how to connect to them via Mac. . .I am sure this is laughably easy, I am the king of making things difficult, I swear!

  • Problems in connecting to windows domain from a L3 switch

    Hello,
I have a Cisco L3 switch with two subnets on that switch. I dont have vlan for each subnet, all i did is confiugred two IP's for the single vlan, meaning the switch will have a IP in the server subnet and a secondary IP in the client subnet range. For the client subnet, the secondary IP will be the gateway and for the servers, the primary ip will be the gateway.
The issue is the Domain controller is in one subnet and the clients are in another subnet.
Because of this they are not able to see each other and the clients cant join the domain. Also the DHCP is not working, meaning clients are not getting an IP from the DHCP server. The scope is set to the range of Client IP range.
The only way to fix this, i have given dual IP's to this DC and then the systems clients started joing the domain.
I dont want to have the server with dual IP's.
What is the best way i can ensure that my Domain is in the server subnet and the clients who are in client subnet can join them over the Cisco L3 switch as both the server subnet switch and the client switch connected to the L3 which acts as the core switch at the site.

    hello,
    Thanks for your reply.
Sorry that i didnt tell earlier that every thing works fine except the DHCP/Domain issue. This shows routing is ok.
Also i have complaints saying that when i have a user setup with a client ip, the performance is very slow, the moment i change that to a server IP range, the performance is very good.
The pity here is both for the client ip range and the Server IP range, the gateway is the L3 as i have configured dual IP's for that vlan in the L3, one for the Client IP range and the other for the server IP range.
The DHCP server will start issuing IP's to the client when the moment i change the IP of the DHCP server to the same range as that of the scope, i mean when i assign an IP to the DHCP server in the client IP range.
Both the DHCP and domain are the same machine and hence i have both problems ie DHCP not working and clients not able to join the domain.
think it should be some kind of broadcast issue here since both the DHCP and the Domain uses broadcasts.
I have tried using ip-helper address as well and still no luck :(

  • Cannot connect from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares

    Hi guys,
I am having dificulties connecting from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares.
First of all it takes so long time to discover the share in iMac, which it's called "mediaserver". After finding it i cannot connect and gives "Connection Failed: message. If i choose "Connect As.." option i wait some time and then pops out with an error: "There was a problem connecting to the server "mediaserver". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
If i try from Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server ... write in Server Address : smb://mediaserver it fails. But if i write the IP address, like: smb://192.168.1.42 it works after couple of tries. If i try now to Make an Alias for the share i get "The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (eror code -8060)."
Has anyone experienced these problems ? I have updated to Mac OS X version 10.7.3. Could that be the problem ?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Simi

You need to reinstall the updated WHS connector for Mac.  You should then be able to access your shares on WHS 2011.
The problem I'm having is I can't get Time Capsule to recognize the WHS 2011 mapped folders that show up on the desktop as a drive, so Backup won't work.

  • After connecting my Sony camcorder to imac (Snow Leopard) to import a video the import window does not open. I have imported videos from the sam camcorder successfully before. What could have happened? Puzzled)

After connecting my Sony camcorder to Imac (Snow Leopard) to import a video to imovie 09 the import window does not open. In the past I have successfully imported videos from the same camcorder. What could have happened? Puzzled

Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but  maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?
But I bought this My Book mostly for freeing space because I like to make cards in Photoshop and I'm forever running out of space when I get too many layers (don't really know what I'm doing there, either).
Is there some way that I can rectify my mistakes and start all over?
Thank you so much for  beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message  that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!
So your kindness is very much appreciated.

  • Print from printer connected to pc with windows 7 from a imac

I have a pc with windows 7 and a HP Deskjet f300 series printer connected to it.
I would like to print from my iMac. Help please.

There are a number of requirements with the Windows 7 and Mac OS X setup. If one of these requirements is not met, then the printing will not be successful.
    *Windows 7 Setup*
Windows 7 introduced a new sharing feature called HomeGroup that is supposed to replace the workgroup for home networking. However, the feature only works for Windows 7 connected to other Windows 7. Therefore, if the Windows 7 computer has been configured to use HomeGroup, the first thing you need to do is detach Windows 7 from the HomeGroup.
The next setting is the network profile for Windows 7 computer. Windows 7 provides four network profiles; Home, Work, Public and Domain. Based on the network location you choose, Windows assigns a network discovery state to the network and opens the appropriate Windows firewall ports for that state. Ideally the computer should be set to the Home or Work profile.
With the network profile selected, another setting within the profile that can hinder the discovery of the shared printer is the network discovery setting. With this setting turned off, the Windows 7 computer will not appear under the respective workgroup (or if the setting has been changed after the computer was seen by the Mac, then it can appear in the workgroup computer list but will not show any shared printer - this is most likely due to the LAN manager timing). This setting can be accessed via Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings.
Also, within the Advanced sharing settings for the Work or Home profile, another setting called Password protected sharing can stop the shared printer from appearing. With this setting turned on, the Win7 computer will still be seen when adding the Windows shared printer, but after selecting the Win7 computer, the shared printer is not displayed as no prompt is given to enter user account details. So this setting needs to be turned off. Then when the Win7 computer name is selected, a prompt will appear requesting user account information. The Guest account can be selected here to see the shared printer name.
    *Adding the Printer*
Now that you can see the printer share, the next step is to add a printer driver that will support the printing via a Windows computer. The instruction shown above by musicwind for adding a shared Windows printer is correct, however you need to be aware that some vendor drivers do not support this type of connection. In this case you need to use a CUPS based driver, such as those provided by the Gutenprint driver set included with Snow Leopard. You may need to reload your SL disc and run the Optional Installs package to get all the Gutenprint driver for your model.
One last note. If the Gutenprint driver for your model does not exist or does not work, then you will need to install the HPIJS for Mac OS X driver suite. Ensure you read all the documentation on this page as there are three packages that need to be installed.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Remote Desktop Connection won't work from Leopard to Windows XP

    Hi, folks:
I'm unable to connect to my work XP computer via my home iMac (Leopard 10.5.7) using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection for Mac. The XP settings are correct, I'm connected on my work network VPN, and I don't believe I have any router firewalls causing the problem --- the reason I know this is because I also have an MacBook running Tiger (10.4.11) and it has been connecting to my work PC without any problems. So, this must be a Leopard firewall setting?
As far as that goes, on my iMac I've got Screen Sharing, Remote Login and Internet Sharing turned on. Again, work network VPN is on.
I'm getting this error from Remote Desktop Connection:
"The Mac cannot connect to the Windows-based computer
    This problem can occur if:
    - The Windows-based computer is not set up to accept remote connections
    - The Windows-based computer is not turned on
    - The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems
Try connecting to the Windows-based computer again, or contact your administrator"
Anyone know of a fix? I'd greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks.

What Firewall setting do you have on your Mac? Try setting it to allow all connections. At least as an experiment.
Do you have any Proxies set in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxies? If yes, then is it possible that "Bypass" list is not covering the XP system.

Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?
