Connecting traditional speaker wire to Airport

I just moved into a house with speakers installed in the ceilings. The connection wire for the speakers is traditional +/- (black/red) speakerwire. I'm trying to figure out the best way to connect that wire to my Airport so that I can use my PowerBook as a jukebox throughout the house.
Right now I've got it hooked up through a series of connectors from Radio Shack, but they definitely hurt the sound quality. Any suggestions on a more elegant, simple solution to this problem?
thanks!

You need some kind of simple amplifier, and an Aiport express for streaming iTunes.
If the speaker wires are in multiple locations, you'll need multiple amplifiers and multiple AX's

  • Can't connect iPhone or iPad to Airport Extreme

I just got a new modem/wireless router from AT&T U-Verse (it's a 2Wire 020). I needed to extend the range, since the signal doesn't reach to one part of the house. I set my Airport Extreme up as a bridge, and it's working perfectly – in fact, I'm using it right now with my MacBook Pro.
My problem is that it won't let me connect any iOS device to the Airport Extreme. I've tried an iPhone and also an iPad, but none of them will connect, even though they will connect to the 2Wire router.
If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
    Thanks.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that they are interconnected by Ethernet. I just wanted to be sure.
If you haven't done so already, I would recommend that you perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment whenever you add or change items.
    Please try the following:
Power-down the gateway, AEBS, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Note: Power-down order is not critical.
Power-up the gateway; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up the computer(s).
Network clients, connected by either wire or wireless to the AEBS should now be able to gain access to the Internet via the gateway. Please post back your results.

  • 1/8 inch to speaker wire?

I use an Apogee One with my Macbook. I have a pair of old speakers that use regular speaker wire. I would like to connect those to the output jack on the Apogee Duet. Anybody know the easiest way to do this? Does anybody manufacture something that converts from 1/8 to speaker wire?
(my original message said 3.5 mm to speaker wire - I think I mean 1/8'' to speaker wire)

    Hi,
I tried finding out a converter for your 3.5 mm speaker wire to 1/8" gauge but I only found one that goes from 3.5mm to 1/4." The best thing to do is soldering the wires evenly into your Apogee.
Check this link I found a guy had a similar problem:

  • Speaker Wire

I just bought the 7.1 creative s750 speaker system, and I was wondering if anyone knows any kind of speaker wire I could use that is a little higher performance than the speaker wire that comes with the system? I have looked around and I can't find speaker connections with one end an RCA connection, and the other end a positive, negative end to plug into the back of the speakers. If anyone knows where I could find that type of speaker wire that is hire end, I would really appreciate it.

You could plug them into the 3.5mm speaker output on the back of the computer.
Yes, there are speaker wire to RCA and then RCA to 3.5mm headphone plug cables/connectors.
But that wouldn't really be good as the power otuput of the computer (500-600 mWatts?) would not be enough to power the speakers to an acceptable level (probably 1 watt minimum).

  • HT4262 How can I connect 6 computers simultaneously to Airport extreme?

I have tried troubleshooting several ways and the some computers work and others don't. How can I connect 6 wireless computers to Airport Extreme?

    Matt
Is it possible to speak on the phone?  The situation is so convoluted it might be easier to help me get back on track in person. When I first had this issue I got on an apple site that had a chat room in which I typed in my problem.  After several missives back and forth, the apple technician asked for my number and we spoke on the phone. The technician walked me through rebooting the actual airport plug (as opposed to the router box) and got me up and running. Do you know how I can relocate that chat site for technical support?
    Thanks

  • Missing s750 speaker wire

does anyone know where i can go about getting replacement speaker wire for the s750? i've moved a ridiculous amount of times and lost track of my rear speaker cables.

From what I can tell from my S750s, you should be able to go to any Radio Shack and buy a new wire. Just make sure that the plug in to the Sub woofer is the right size on the one end and it really wouldn't matter what the other end is because you plug in bare wire to the actual speaker itself. Find a 2 wire... err WIRE with the right connector for the Sub and strip it on the other end to connect to the speaker. Sound simple... yes? Make sure you get the right length of wire!

  • Replace speaker wire

I have one FPS1500 and one speaker wire is broken. How i can disassemble this speaker to weld the wire again again?Antonio

I've replaced the front speaker wire on my s750's with QED 25th anniversary silver plated wire. You will need to desolder the wires inside the speaker and resolder some new wire taking note of the +- terminals, then connect the other end of the wire to an RCA connector(if thats what these speakers use)making sure to connect the + wire to the centre terminal of the RCA connector and the - to the outer section.A fairly easy and straightforward job if you can use a soldering iron. Hope this helps

  • Cannot connect airport express to ipad I keep receiving the message: "an unexpected error occurred" when I try to connect my Ipad to my airport express.  Does anyone have a solution?

cannot connect airport express to ipad
I keep receiving the message: "an unexpected error occurred" when I try to connect my Ipad to my airport express.  Does anyone have a solution?

I could not "see" my Express via my wireless router or via the Airport Utility until I reset it to Factory Settings by unplugging it then holding in the tiny reset button while plugging it back in, waiting for the flashing yellow LED signal before letting go.
Then I set it up to DHCP - "connect to wireless network" and DOWNGRADED the firmware to 7.3.x
I would tell you the exact Firmware but I can no longer "see" the Airport express............ AGAIN or still.....
BUT at least I am listening to music streaming from my MacBook Pro... Hmmm.
I log back into the router (Linksys WRT110) and it no longer shows the Airport Express as a DHCP client AND the Airport utility can no longer "find" any Airport Devices..
So if I don't move, or there are no cosmic events, or maybe my KARMA is effecting the device or my "VIBES" are good, but I'm not sure if will continue to work.. Sure would like to use this little device from hel*.
Since I have had this Airport Express I have spent many hours trying to get it to work.
It works just long enough to fool me and then takes a dump...
    Maybe this time?
    5 Minute later...
Music was playing. I went into iTunes and switched from Airtunes to Computer speakers. When I tried to switch it back GUESS WHAT?
[An unknown error (-15006) occurred while trying to connect to remote speaker "Airtunes"]
Wonderful Green LED though. Totally useless piece of equipment AFAIK.

  • Cant connect to Netgear WPN824 with Airport Extreme Card

    Hi,
I have a Netgear wireless router. I can connect to the router without a problem when I hard wire it. When I go wireless the Mac doesnt even recogonize the router. I have no security right now, so I could try to connect the easiest. This is a brand new Airport extreme card that I installed tonight in my Imac g5. Using OS 10.4.10. Please help!!! Thanks!!!
I would think it would at least be able to recognize the network (which the name is being broadcasted). But it doesnt even show up.

Did you connect the antenna wire to the AirPort Extreme card?
Compare the antenna wire installation with the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card.

  • How to connect my macbook to the Airport with the same IP?

Hi to everybody! Most of the times I want to use amule it is firewalled because the IP changes everytime I connect my macboook to the Airport express: 10.0.1.2 or 10.0.1.3 and so on. Is there a way to say that I want my macbook to be always connected with the same IP? Since I couldn't do this I started to map the amule ports (TCP and UDP) for each IP, but I realised that I can't use the same ports (let's say TCP 4662 and UDP 4672) for different IPs. Why is that?
    Thanks in advance!

I believe that an AirPort Express can be configured to do that. Launch AirPort Utility, enter "manual setup" mode, select the Internet panel, then the DHCP tab. There should be a section of the screen at the bottom labeled "DHCP Reservations". Click in the "plus" sign at the bottom of that section and fill in the details that you want.

You have to tell the router to send messages addressed to a certain port to a specific IP address, otherwise it wouldn't know how to route the messages. It would be like trying to assign a phone number to two different phone line circuits.

  • Connecting a PC to an airport

    Please Help!
I have set up my cable modem to my Airport. It's an old Airport, so that may be the first of my issues.
I have no problems connecting my iBook through the Airport, but I'm trying to hook up my roommate's PC (Toshiba using a Linksys Wireless-B Notebood Adapter 2.4GHz) to the airport.
I went into Airport Setup Utility configuration and clicked on the password icon. Here's the catch....it gives me a WEP password, but it's only 10 digits. From what I've been reading, it requires a larger number of digits (13 or 26.)
But I also disabled Network security (reluctantly) and the PC is still not able to connect. The PC says it's connected to the wireless, but it's not connecting to the internet.
I'm wondering if it's a compatability issue with the wireless-B adapter, or is it an ISP problem. I have DHCP.
Also, how can I change the number of digits assigned in Airport Setup Utility configuration?
If anyone can help, my roommate would really appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Erin

It could be using 40/64 bit WEP which uses a ten digit HEX key.

it's connected to the wireless, but it's not
    connecting to the internet.
If you disable WEP and still can't connect then it more than likely is NOT a WEP issue.
Is the PC getting a valid IP address from the Airport, in other words something like 10.0.1.x and not a 169.x.x.x address?

  • Do I need a cable connecting my Time Capsule to Airport Express if I want to use the AE to extend my wifi network range?

I'm a bit confused by conflicting advice given by my local Apple shop and my internet provider.
My cable modem is plugged into a Time Capsule which I use to access the net wirelessly almost all over the house.  The one spot the wireless doesn't quite reach is (of course) where I now need my office and iMac to be.
I thought I could just plug in an Airport Express somewhere in the middle  to extend the network's range but the guy at my local Apple shop said the Airport Express would need to be connected not just to power but to the Time Capsule, via a cable.  That's fiddly and would involve cables running under the floor or along walls and ceilings, not something I can or really want to do.  It's not really practical to try and move the cable connection point either.
My internet provider suggested a netgear wireless extender and said that would only need to be plugged into power.  The reviews of the netgear product I found comparing it to Airport Express suggest that the Express doesn't need to be connected to anything other than power either to extend a network range (which was what I originally thought).
So I'm wondering which advice is correct? I've also read that the netgear product isn't all that easy to set up so I'd rather stick with.   Apple if it will do what I want.
Thanks for any help out there

I'm sure that the guy at the Apple shop means well, but he is not correct.
While it would be preferable to connect the Time Capsule and AirPort Express using a wired Ethernet connection, the Express can connect wirelessly and extend the wireless signal the same way....IF...it is located where it can receive a good wireless signal.

  • I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint, only a WIFI printer,my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ?

I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint at home but only a WIFI printer, my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ? Please help me if anyone knows about this.

Unfortunately, connecting a non-AirPrint-enabled printer to an AirPort base station's USB port will not make it AirPrint-ready.
You will need to use another solution, like Printopia, to be able to print to this printer from an iOS device.

  • How do I connect a MacPro without an airport card to my wireless network

I have a MacPro that does not have an airport card. I have a Verizon FIOS wireless router. I connected my time capsule to the router with an Ethernet cable and my MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to the network. I placed my airport extreme upstairs in my office and joined the wireless network. I connected my MacPro to the airport extreme with an Ethernet cable but I cannot get on the Internet. It says the Ethernet has a self assigned IP and cannot connect to the Internet . What am I doing wrong?

    KT4ever.
To add to what Bob said, I've drawn out (on a sheet of paper) what you have described in your initial post, it seems you have an Airport Extreme 'connected wirelessly' to the Verizon wifi router? is that correct?
IF so, your Mac Pro's network settings should be set to DHCP via ethernet? I'm presuming that you can connect your Macbook pro to the Verizon Wifi using a local DHCP IP address automatic network settings right ?
Providing you can see the Airport Extreme 'upstairs' your Mac Pro should connect in exactly the same manner.
Does your Mac Pro have a valid IP address ?
If you can't get the Airport Express to 'connect/talk' to your wireless router, I would ask if you're using WPA/WPA2 secured network keys or an Open unsecured Network? the airport express probably wants the Wifi Key to 'handshake' with the wifi router you have.
    http://store.apple.com/us/questions/product/MC340LL/A?aid=www-naus-qa-airportext reme-aos00001&cp=qa-airportextreme-aos00001 - this may help.
If all the above are correct, you should be able to go into finder and 'see' the Airport Extreme And TimeCapsule, and laptop (if u have it connected), as well as your Mac Pro- if it all works right and sharing is turned on those devices.
First start by trying go into Aiport Utility in Applications > Utilities (or via finder) and see if the util can see your airport Extreme - using ur laptop ideally ) and try and get your Wireless extended.
