Consistent colors when publishing JPG web gallery?

What is the best way to get the JPGs from my RAW-files to look the same (or close) in Firefox/Internet explorer as in Lightroom?
Do browsers accept embedded color profiles?
I know different people have different settings, but for starters I would like the JPGs to look the same on *my machine*! :-)
I know nothing about Color Policies, Color Management and the like and have not calibrated my monitor...

> What is the best way to get the JPGs from my RAW-files to look the same (or close) in Firefox/Internet explorer as in Lightroom?
Make sure the exported JPEG has been converted to the sRGB color space ...
> Do browsers accept embedded color profiles?
Some do -- most do not ...
> I know different people have different settings, but for starters I would like the JPGs to look the same on *my machine*! :-)
Appearing correct on your machine is somewhat dependent on the kind of machine you have -- you do not say(?) In any case, it will come down to the CM you employ ... which of your apps are CM-savvy ... and the color space your JPEGs are exported to.
Regarding other people's web browsers, you have absolutely no control ... but you can accept the fact that your imagery will look the way you want on "most" monitors if you export to sRGB.
> I know nothing about Color Policies, Color Management and the like and have not calibrated my monitor...
Your question is very much dependent on you educating yourself. You could stick to Lr, for which CM is entirely transparent but dependent on properly compensating for your monitor's color, as well as exporting solely to sRGB (a
de facto standard for "most" monitors), and CM will be simplified for you. However, most cameras are quite capable of more colors than be shown with you monitor or that can be contained within the sRGB gamut -- therefore, you will be missing some of the experience of color digital photography if you do not calibrate your monitor and delve a bit further into understanding "working" and "device" color spaces.
Although mostly associated with Photoshop, the late Bruce Fraser still has "out of gamut" tutorials located here:

  • Im trying to publish a web gallery to BC, my settings seem correct but I'm still getting an  error: FTP transfer failed ' unknown error'. Techs on BC, say FTP working fine. Please help!

    Hey peeps,
Im trying to publish a web gallery to be hosted on BC. Despite having what seem the correct settings im getting an error: FTP transfer failed ' unknown message'. Have checked with techs on BC. They say FTP working fine that end.
    Any suggestions?

Have you tried connecting to another FTP server in Lightroom?
For example, if you get a free Flickr account, can you login to it and upload a file to it?
If you can't upload to any server, then you have a general FTP-in-Lr problem, but if problem is only with BC then, well, it's time to start scrutinizing the BC settings..
PS - All my FTP'ing plugins have an enhanced FTP settings test feature designed to help you debug FTP settings, so another option is to download one of them, for example:
    robcole.com - FTPAggregator
    and experiment with settings tester:
To get here, you have to click 'View / Edit Additional Settings' (in plugin manager), then choose 'New' or 'Edit' from 'Sync Pairs' drop-down menu.
If test is unsuccessful, enable verbose logging (top section of plugin manager), and review the log file after test, or send to me.
If you have a problem running plugin, please contact me directly:

  • Trying to publish a web gallery using iPhoto '08 version 7.1.1.

I have recently been getting the following message while trying to publish a web gallery through iPhoto:
Request to the server http://publish.me.com failed.
And all the pictures go "pending" without ever getting published. My mobileme membership is current and I make sure I am online while I try to publish. I have published web galleries before, this has happened only recently.
    Any ideas?

I'm receiving the same issue. I haven't tried to upload a new gallery for awhile. The only change (although a big one) I've made to my system since was upgrading to Snow Leopard. I'm still running iPhoto '08 and my mobileme account is current.

  • Can't Publish to Web Gallery

    Hi!
I have a slightly annoying problem.
I am selecting an event in iphoto and then clicking publish to web gallery. A window pops up to say that I need to be logged in to .mac to use web gallery.... I have the option to login, learn more about .mac or 'no thanks'. I select 'login'. It automatically logs me in and that's it. Nothing happens. If close the window and try again, it just goes around in the same loop.
My other .mac services are working fine.
Any one know to fix this?

    Robin
Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
1 - Are you running iPhoto version 7.1.3 (the latest version)
2 - GO to your system preferences ==> Internet & network ==> .mac and verify that everything is correct there
3 - in Safari go to www.apple.com and log into your .mac account and go to the account page and verify that everything is correct there
    4 - try again

  • Cannot publish to web gallery

I have a dotmac account and the newest iPhoto '08 fully updated
I cannot publish using web gallery
whenever I try to, I get this error message
"An error occurred while publishing the album "albumname." this is not a valid location for this request.
my dotmac account is programmed into my computer and working just fine in every other way. what's going on here?
    help! thank you

    David:
How long has this gone on? Have you been able to publish successfully previously? Apple has been having problems with their servers for the last several days. My publishing efforts from iWeb and iPhoto have been sporadic, good one moment and bad a short time later only to get good again. Be sure to post your problem to the .Mac and iPhoto feedback sites:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/mac/tm.html
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photos randomly out of order when published to my gallery!

Photos are in the right order in iPhoto on my mac (Library, Albums, Web), but when the album is published to my gallery the photos are completely and randomly out of order.
The name of each photo is just the number given by the camera, and iPhoto had correctly imported the folder of photos in chronological order from a hard disk.
Also, there are videos which sometimes work in the gallery, but for some it says quicktime cannot play the video, and sometimes the video is UPSIDE DOWN!
How can I get the correct order (and functioning videos)?
    Thanks

In the gallery on the web, I see no pattern to the random order.
Aha! In iPhoto (back on my mac), I now see that the order from the import at the beginning ("events") is not the same as the original folder (where all files were in order of file number). I see the problem there - iPhoto imports the photos in the correct order until it encounters a video. The videos (.mov) are mostly in the wrong place, although I found one in the right place (just to make it impossible to say always, grr).
Then when the mostly in order (apart from videos out of order) "album" is published to the web gallery, photos and videos are completely out of order.
I had never tried including videos in photo albums in iPhoto, I think because in previous versions this was impossible. So I had published one video at a time to its own "album" on the gallery. Maybe iPhoto is mixed up by these videos in with photos. Strange though, because it gives details about how many photos and how many videos in the album, and seems to act like this would be possible.
So, resetting the order in iPhoto does not allow me to republish maintaining this order. In the publishing process, somehow all are randomly mixed up. The only way I can see to reorder everything in the gallery is to move them all manually there in the gallery when connected to my account at me.com
I had hoped to find a better solution, because this would take a long time to do.

  • Publishing a web gallery via Homepage

I've followed the rather cryptic instructions found in one of the manuals and also on a post here to a "t" and still can't get my web gallery up at .mac. I've created a new Homepage, added a new "page", clicked "edit link", inserted teh URL from the Aperture "publish" button, and it still doesn't work. (As an example of cryptic, the "example" in the edit link field says "www.mac.com" -- that doesn't really bear any resemblance to the actual link that shows up in Aperture. There appears to be a complete file located on my iDisk in the Sites folder, but nothing, nada, zilch. I keep getting an error page when I try to go to the published site. In the end, I exported to iPhoto and created a new iWeb page without any trouble at all, but I'd prefer to skip the extra steps.
Can anyone point me to a definitive set of instructions on how to do this and why should it be this hard anyway?

  • Photos Change Color When Published

    Good morning,
Wondering if anyone might be able to advise me on why the colors of my photos appear washed out when I publish my iWeb page to a folder. When I open the page in Firefox the colors are not as vibrant and saturated as when they are in iWeb. Would this have anything to do with iWeb compressing the photos when publishing to a folder?
All photos have been added to iWeb as jpegs.
    Thanks for your time.
    Cheers,
    John

    John:
How do the photos look with Safari? I vaguely remember a thread which mentioned that Firefox didn't manage color and Safari did or something to that effect. What is the color profile in the photos (sRGB is preferred for web use) and do you have iWeb setup to optimize photos upon importing?

  • Publish to Web Gallery, makes individual pages and the "gallery" is empty

I am experimenting with Web Gallery because I would like to use this feature to put my high school reunion pictures up.
I've just converted recently to iPhoto '08. I've been working with events and have organized my reunion photos into 3 events (about 150 photos). But I started by just seeing how it is to just put up one or two small jpegs, to see how it works. I uploaded 3 different small events. They have individual urls and when I sign into my dotmac account, it tells me I have 3 pages, but no gallery. How do I get them to show in the gallery? Can I select 3 events at once to publish?
what is the difference between publishing an "event" and publishing an "album"?
    thanks
    Message was edited by: JScott

Yes, I see 3 galleries showing in the web gallery section in the left hand sidebar of iPhoto.
Yes, when I go to iPhoto preferences, Web Gallery section, I see the three galleries. It calls them albums, but I see them.
Yes, in the Finder, when I look at iDisk =>web =>sites =>_gallery, I see 3 folders corresponding to the 3 created urls.
Yes, in iPhoto, if I select one of the galleries and click the URL, I do get to the photos I just published, in Safari.
But.... here's the rub, and the question. If I go log into dotmac in Safari, on the left hand side of the dotmac page, under my account, underneath the links to go to Mail and the Address Book, there is an entry for Web Gallery. Then it lists "My Gallery" followed by the names I gave the 3 galleries I created. If I click on any of the pages I named, I get to them. If I click "My Gallery", it says "This Web Gallery is Empty".
What I was thinking "My Gallery" might be is an overlying web gallery home page onto which I could post multiple galleries. Is that what it is, and how do I get to it?
    Thanks,
    JScott

  • Using Illustrator CS6, how to preserve drawn colors when Save For Web to PNG?

Using Illustrator CS6 on Mac OSX 10.9.1:
step 1. I open a new file for Web profile.
step 2. I verify that File > Document Color Mode is RGB.
step 3. I draw a square and set it's color to 0,103,197 (decimal).
step 4. I click File > Save For Web
step 5. In the popup that opens, I set to PNG-24, and verify the option Convert To sRGB is not selected.
step 6. Using the Mac's DigitalColorMeter, I observe the color is 0,109,191 in the Save For Web popup. If I save it, then open the saved PNG file, it's color is also 0,109,191.
How to do this so the colors don't change?
step 7. I close Save For Web popup.
step 8. I verify Edit > Color Settings for Working Spaces is set to Monitor RGB, and that the Color Management Policies for RGB is off.
step 9. I verify Edit > Assign Profile is set to Don't Color Manage This Document.
step 10. I verify View > Proof Colors is off.
Can anyone provide a set of Illustrator CS6 settings that let me save a PNG image with the same colors it's drawn in so I can use that PNG image in a website?
I must be missing something obvious, because anyone working in web design must do this day in and day out, please let me know what procedure people follow to achieve this.
    UPDATE:
Using the above procedure DOES preserve the colors when embedding the PNG image in a webpage viewed in Firefox and Chome, but NOT for Safari. Also, the colors are not preserved in Mac's Preview software, as well as Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.
I'm pretty new to all this. Hoping someone can provide some perspective on what typical procedure people use for web development when working with colors in Illustrator CS6.

  • How can I export Keywords when creating a Web Gallery?

I would like to include the keywords applied to an image when exporting to a Web Gallery. I have learned how to include the caption, and there's a possibility of copy and paste the keywords to the caption before export, but as you can tell, that adds unnecessary steps.
I suppose the larger question is "how do I customize the exported web gallery, and the content it includes?" but that will come next.
Big picture, I'm working on creating a searchable "proof book" and my initial thoughts are to create a custom html template which includes a Google search bar, and indexes / searches the keywords of each photo, exported to the web gallery.
Step one is to get the keywords to export ...

Right-click the page, choose View Page Info, and click the Permissions tab. There you can turn off automatic loading of images (uncheck Use default first to enable the controls). Any luck?
There might be a way to restore that more direct right-click menu item if you need it frequently, but I haven't researched it.
To clean up a page for printing, you also could consider an add-on like the following: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/print-edit/ Print Edit :: Add-ons for Firefox]. Then you wouldn't have to re-enable images each time.

  • Losing Mouse "hand" over buttons when publish for Web.

    Hi,
I'm new to Flash. I'm publishing a web-site and I lose the "Hand" icon for the mouse over buttons after I publish and run the HTML=>Swf files from the Browser. When I "Test the movie" from flash I see the "Hand" over buttons just fine.
Is there a publish setting that I'm missing which allows the hand to remain?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi, Had to work yesterday.
At the moment I'm running/testing locally  (which may be the problem) from a flash secure directory on my desktop. So no link sorry.
I think I need to look into setting up a test service with Yahoo or something. Any suggestions? I'm not really sure how to upload my completed website (.html and .swf files) to a service. That's a different topic/question. Any help along those lines is greatly appreciated.
Anyway, I'm using safari 5.1.7 on my IMac. and Safari 6.0.3 on my Mac Pro. and Firefox 21.0 (primarily) or Internel Explorer (rarely) on my "windows" laptop.    The "Hand" works on all of these (files local to the respective computer) except the IMAC Safari 5.1.7 flash player 12.0 combination, which was my first test environment scenerio.
I'm planning to do two things.
    1) Update my IMAC to Safari 6.0.
    2) Set up a test area with a service provider. This in itself may resolve the issue for the Safari 5.1.7. At least I'll be testing in a "real world" environment.
So, thank you for your help with this. I think we can call it solved. If my testing on a true server shows the same results then I may shoot out another question. I think it is a nice goal to have our web site creations run on all platforms and browser comibations but is that realistic? If we test on as many combinations of the most recent software releases as we can with reasonable success what more can we do? I'd like to hear you opinion. Feel free to sent me an email.
Would you like me to open a new question/discussion regarding the help finding and uploading files to a service provider?
    Thanks again,
    Jeff

  • I can't publish to Web Gallery

I had an album on my Web Gallery and intended to add another album tonight. I can't see the old one and can't publish the new one. I keep getting the error "Request to the Server Failed"
Does anyone know what this means and how I can get my iPhoto to connect? I have internet service that is working, so this doesn't make sense to me. TIA.

I am now having the same problem - I keep getting an error saying cant find server - yet iWeb and Mobile are publishing and syncing fine.

  • Can I publish to Web-Gallery from several Macs?

We have several Macs in the (extended) family, all running iPhoto (iLife08 and Leopard). I have ONE .Mac account (family account; i.e. for 5 people).
Here are a few related questions:
    1. Can each person publish to this one Web Gallery account?
    2. Is each "publisher" the owner of this specific Album on the Gallery? Or is there a "master" owner?
    3. How do I then control the sequence of the published albums?
    4. I published a series of albums on the Web Gallery; then I had to switch iLibraries (because a single one became to big) with (commercially available) iPoto Libary Manager, now the once published series is no longer visible on the web.
    Thanks for any pointers/answers/suggestions.
    Cheers,
    Veit

    Velt:
1 -You can setup a web gallery so others can add photos to via a web browser and by email. Also they can subscribe to the gallery, i.e. download the photos to their library.
2 -You would be the controller of the gallery.
3 -You control the sequence of the published albums by arranging them in iPhoto in the order you want - in the left hand pane under Web Gallery. If you want just your extended family to have access then you can password/user name protect the galleries.
4 - the galleries should not be removed from online just because you opened a different library. Open the original library, go to the web gallery and bookmark it in your browser for access regardless of which library you're running. You can confirm that the galleries are still online by going to your iDisk/Web/Sites/-gallery folder and checking for the gallery folders there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
