Conspiracy?

I really do not want to start a controversy, but I'm wondering if Apple has a problem that they are not telling us about. Did they come up with the "Time Machine" program because there is a problem with their computers losing files? Twice now I have had to bring up Time Machine to restore music files that have, for some reason, disappeared without me doing anything to get rid of them. Has anyone else out there experienced this problem? In each case the files were in a folder in the "Sound Studio" program as AIFF files.

Two programs don't play well with each other and cause a crash or glitch. Hard drive starts to go. Directory corruption of some sort. Your computer is like an old fashioned card catalog file. It keeps a record of where files are stored. If part of the processes recording that information gets interrupted, a record of that file existing gets lost. The file may still exist but the record of it existing is lost, in which case if the computer encounters a space with no directory record it feels free to write over existing data. This can happen with any system.
Periodically run Disk Utility's First Aid, especially if you have a crash.
People (who have any sense) have been making backups of their computer data from since when computers first came into being. Time Machine is there to make it easy to back-up and isn't part of a faulty system cover-up plot by blue-skinned beings from Pandora.

  • Vast Apple Conspiracy! (iPod Not Working When Formatted for Windows)

Alright, I know this isn't the place to make the claim of an Apple conspiracy, but as a mac user who proudly has an apple sticker on his car who has experienced the events below first hand - I feel there is only one explanation one can come to.
    VAST APPLE CONSPIRACY!
Alright, my friend has a 30GB 5G iPod and runs windows. I own a MacBook that has OSX 10.4.7 and Windows. He has had problems in the past with his computer, but never with his iPod until the 1.2 update rolled out with iTunes 7. Now after one move of the cursor or change of menu the screen turns into a bunch of pixels reminiscent of a television set to static. Only it makes no noise and never moves, it just sits with the backlight on until it dies, or until you hold the menu and center buttons, then it restarts and does the same thing.
So being the good nerdy friend that I am I offer to take it home and reformat it on my Mac then on Windows to see if maybe that helps (thinking something is up with his computer again). It starts out promising enough, because I was able to reformat it for Macintosh load on music, videos and games play them all and shut it down properly.
So I switch to Windows XP and reformat it for Windows in iTunes 7 and the same problem starts up again!
Now aside from a vast Apple conspiracy, does anyone have any suggestions, perhaps others are experiencing this problem? Keep in mind the iPod worked fine when formatted for Mac and it is highly unlikely two Windows computers have the exact same flaw (especially on mine that goes almost unused and has virus and spyware protection).

MacBook 2GHz Intel Core Duo   Windows XP

    Ummm
the APPLE software is less than a month old. I am sure it was tested extensively on APPLE computers before release. Due to apple's configurations there are only a few systems it had to be tested on.
Now on windows... how many of thousands of geeks out there build their own machines with different graphics, audio, usb pci cards etc etc... Impossible for apple to test it out as extensively on win xp...
I imagine in 2 - 3 months we will have itunes 7.0.2 or 7.0.3 that addresses many of the issues windows users are having. That's how it was with itunes 6, this is not a new phenomenon by any means.

Dear All, latest airport upgrade (this am) prevents windows computers and roku? Conspiracy? Or just ******* software developers?

What do you mean "prevents"? What AirPort upgrade did you just apply?
The one Windows computer we have in the house works with a few glitches on 7.6.4. It's running Vista, which is said to be one of the less successful Windows versions.
I can't address Roku. We don't have one of those.
If you explain what symptoms you are seeing, maybe somebody will drop by and recognize them. Starting over with a more specific posting title might help also.

  • It's a conspiracy :-)

The air-cards that several neighbors and I used for "high speed" was getting slower by the week.   Verizon recommended the MIFI unit as 3G service is somewhat nearby and we could use the window antennas from the air cards with the MIFI to get better service.
All four of us are unhappy for various reasons including:
We have to pull the batteries out every night to keep the unit from overheating and to really shut it and the Blinking light OFF.
We thought that once the unit was connected for the day that it would stay connected.  Wrong.  The icon shows the unit to be connected and with excellent signal strength and the wireless connection says it is connected,  But the MIFI has to be reset numerous times a day for it to be truly connected.  Otherwise, the "IE can not display the page" message appears for every web site we try.
We thought we were really free to be anywhere in the house, deck or yard to use the computer and other devices..  Instead, we aren't free from anything with the constant going to the unit for the resetting process.  Or we carry it with us and the battery goes dead long before we are done working.
And the service is only a little faster than the aircard for all the grief and despite what the Verizon service area maps say,
Wouldn't recommend it and wish we hadn't made the change.

  • Wifi connectivity, conspiracy?

I have been experiencing connectivity issues with my iPhone for quite some time now. My phone will sustain the connection for a period of time, only to later drop the connection. In my opinion, I think this is some kind of conspiracy to charge people data usage while they are unaware of their disconnected wifi, or to charge people data as they are in the middle of streaming something.

First off how do you figure Apple makes a device that charges you extra data... seeing as how it would be your carrier getting paid? Apple has already been paid when you bought the device.
    Conspiracy theory shot down.
Now there are several things  you can do .. assuming you are on 6.0.2 as your post indicated.
    Reset network settings
    reset all settings
restore through itunes (as new not from a backup)
If it still has an issue you might have a hardware issue

  • Skype Is A Delicious Tool to Execute A Conspiracy ...

If any organization or a person wants to commit a conspiracy against any person or group of persons, it can be a delicious tool to exploit and commit conspiracy against that person or group of person. How? I am giving one person's case study, where he has become the victim (evidences are there as supporting evidences to submit to IC3 (www.ic3.gov), for a data research purpose and monitoring purpose over Skype.
    Case Study First View:
A>   The scammers have posted few lucrative fake text advertisements in another social networking tool (I do not want to mention here that brand name, confidentiality purpose) for phishing that victim, and obviously he was victimized by this A-One phishing process, as victim is an innocent general person and regularly uses Skype as a serious professional (like other Tom, Dike and Harry) and that social networking tool. He is not like me, a Novel Adventurer-Asshhhhh
B>    The scammers in each case posted their Skype IDs, as Skype does not do any background checking (though it is a social network for professionals), and the scammers do not bother to share their personal details at Skype. Where phone number is needed, there mentioned some phone  number of a particular country(I do not want to mention that country name for supporting IC3) where that number can receive call and SMS, but that is a fake phone number, as no any service provider there who has provided that phone number(already investigated) to that scammer.
C> Established relation with the victim(that unfortunate person),exploited time and money of         that victim, once that adventure over gone out and deleted the scamming profile. So no proof is there in that conversation room except from the transcript stored at Skype Server. Because Skype on regular basis commits content washing. But , fortunately that person has described his story to me and I am a Novel Adventurer so did not hesitate to post it here and about to report to IC3,there write up must be a serious one with all sort of proofs, as financial crime is an offensive and punishable crime and no one has the right of use Skype as a delicious food of committing conspiracy, what you say?-Ummmmmmmmmm!!

  • I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but...

    Hey everyone...
Has anyone noticed that their Powerbook G4 laptop has been crapping out on them in the past week...
I've used my sporadically since I bought it and recently upgraded it and the next thing you know I'm getting dimmed screens and resetting PRAM like a fiend. Now I would take the computer to the Mac Geniuses but all they can tell me is that it's clearly the logic board...but get this the logic board was replaced a year ago by the Mac Geniuses...are they giving me faulty parts? Also they gave me an interesting tidbit of info...that they usually stop service on models after 5 years so if I wanted to repair the TiBook now is the time because in 6 months ..."who knows".
Now if I'm correct a lot of people have Powerbooks or **** for that matter Apple products from more than five years back and they are telling us (with a smirking grin of course) that what I buy today will be obsolete in 5 years if (or when) it breaks down. If that is what they are saying...why have AppleCare or better yet why even buy any Apple product at all.
Now don't get me wrong I'm a diehard Mac user ever since I touched a IIe but I just find it suspicious that my TiBook decided to up and die out on me the exact day the new MacBooks come out. Let me know what ya'll think...

Look on it as an excuse to go out and buy a new MacBook Pro.
Poor me, I've got a fully operational 15" 500MHz PowerBook G4 and a fully operational 17" 1.67GHz PBG4, that I'll have to use until kingdom come before I can justify a nice new MacBook or MacBook Pro (waiting for Intel Core 2 Duo in the MBPro of course).
The 15" PBG4 has been around the world a few times, up mountains in south america, to the south pole, to and from and around new zealand, across the arabian peninsula and been carted around in my hand luggage on hundreds of domestic business flights, dropped on more than one occasion and it still works perfectly, apart from a battery that has a life span shorter than a chocolate teapot. Did buy the 17" PBG4 18 months ago as I though this was on it's last legs, but a new. bigger hard disk means it just won't die. And every client site I go to with it draws the praise "Wow, is that new ?". Grrrr.

  • SuperDrive conspiracy - Apple take note

Well, having read all the posts about failed superdrives I think there is a situation here.
I called my local Apple dealer by telephone and spoke with an engineer (a nice chap). As soon as I mentioned my problems and error codes re my superdrive not buring CDs (It burns DVDs just fine) he said I needed a new drive. I could almost see the knowing smile on his face.
This my friends, is not a number of isolated cases. I believe there is a larger more commong problem here - akin to the Click of Death in zip drives.
    My situation is this.
My superdrive plays CDs, burns DVDs and plays DVDs just fine. It will burn music, but will not burn data. I use Toast 6 and my OS is 10.3.9.
The error messages I get when burning fails is:
    Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
    Sense code = 0x72, 0X03
SESSIONS FIXATION ERROR – INCOMPLETE TRACK IN SESSION
I click OKAY and then get
Lead-in or Lead-out failed to be written
    My thoughts are this:
    1) There is a design fault with eMacs that draw in air across the superdrive thus causing dust to effect it in some way
    2) There is a software error in Toast/OS that causes drive to fail
    3) The drives being installed are poor quality and not designed to last
Either way Apple should address this issue. Okay, for for it's only $200 to have the drive replaced by Apple. But is there a fix? Why would a drive burn DVDs just fine, but not CDs. It's the same drive!
I have been using and have owned Macs since 1986. I am a great fan, enjoy using them and want to keep using them. But I must question, with many other people in this forum, the situation re superdrives.
What does Apple say about it all?
    Steve

    1) There is a design fault with eMacs that draw in
air across the superdrive thus causing dust to effect
    it in some way
    Possibly.
    2) There is a software error in Toast/OS that causes
    drive to fail
    Nope, it's all Apple's fault...100%
    3) The drives being installed are poor quality and
    not designed to last
    You can say that again.
Either way Apple should address this issue.
Maybe 10 years ago. Apple is too busy accomodating their iPod customers.
    Okay, for
for it's only $200 to have the drive replaced by
Apple. But is there a fix? Why would a drive burn
DVDs just fine, but not CDs. It's the same drive!
The DVD-Rs and CD-Rs are burned using different wavelengths of laser light, thus requiring two different burner heads.
I have been using and have owned Macs since 1986. I
am a great fan, enjoy using them and want to keep
using them. But I must question, with many other
people in this forum, the situation re superdrives.
Same here. I am a major Apple fan and have been an owner for over 15 years (since I was a kid).
There is definitely a massive problem here. SuperDrives, Combo Drives... they are all screwed up! I just recently had the SuperDrive in my G5 replaced by AppleCare (not to mention it took 1 week longer than they said it would - very bad for business). Sadly, I don't have AppleCare on my eMac.
On the G5 (Pioneer DVR-109 SuperDrive I believe), I saw pretty much the same problems that you are describing. OSX 10.3.4, Toast seems to be completely useless, "ILLEGAL REQUEST, INCOMPLETE TRACK IN SESSION", etc. It completely stopped burning DVDs and data CDs and would rarely burn an audio-CD. It could read CDs fine, but refused to read burned DVDs. After getting the drive replaced, all is well, for the time being anyway. I can almost guarantee this G5 will be making more trips to AppleCare!
On my eMac with the combo drive (CDD5101), I'm having similar problems. CD burning fails 75% of the time, CDs refuse to mount without retrying 10 times, DVDs take upwards of 90 seconds of constant spinning before they mount.
FRUSTRATING! I've been waiting for like 2 months to get my hands on a copy of Tiger so that I can upgrade my eMac and continue working on my software project (which uses an API recently upgraded with major bugfixes and requiring Tiger). Much to my shagrin, after all of this waiting, I STILL CANT UPGRADE! It's so frustrating. The DVD will mount, but like I said, it takes upwards of 90 seconds to do so. Basically, this eMac boots up too fast for it to be able to recognize the Tiger DVD and boot from it. Sigh
So I guess my only solution is to pack up my eMac, walk it through the 2 feet of snow outside, and hook it up to my G5 which is about 5 miles away. ARGH! I'd really be wishing I had gotten AppleCare on this, but I refuse to be dooped by Apple's brilliant, and somewhat shady marketing practices. You mean you want me to pay $200+ every 3 years so that you can fix things that are GUARANTEED to break? I don't think so Apple. If I wanted a PC, I would have gotten a Dell.
I've also been an owner of Macs since the dawn of time...and one thing I must say, I am deeply disappointed with Apple through all of this. I bet they aren't even TRYING to resolve this problem, and why would they? They aren't obliged to or anything - it says it right in their TOS. Not cool man.
I wish Apple would be as loyal to their customers as we are to them. It's sad really. What happened to the Apple we knew 10 years ago?
In my opinion, we all DESERVE new drives. But I guess this is the future (and past) of Apple. Loyals customers investing their time and money into a company, only to get left in the dust. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple, but I'm really starting to grow a giant chip on my shoulder. I wonder how long it's going to be before a class action lawsuit is filed over this?

  • Why all the conspiracy against EJBs?

    Hi,
I see a lot of people (within our organization) claiming EJBs are heavy weight, while Spring is lightweight. And they hate EJBs as if it was the worst sin committed in enterprise Java. I have pretty much been a Spring and Hibernate developer for the past 1.5 years.
But on various blogs I saw positive views of EJB 3.0. So I tried building simple crud stuff using it. I found it surprisingly simpler to develop in than Spring. So, what exactly is the overhead caused by EJB 3.0 which Spring+Hibernate do not suffer from?
To put it more precisely, how do the following two cases differ to make EJB heavier than Spring?
    EJB 3.0
    1. Stateless EJBs managed by Java EE container.
    2. EntityManager injected by container (Glassfish creates another instance of the bean with new EM instance to handle concurrent requests to same bean).
    3. Container managed transactions.
    4. Accessed using Local interface.
    5. Injected using EJB 3.0 annotations.
    Spring
    1. Singleton beans managed by Spring.
    2. A thread-safe proxy of EntityManager injected by Spring.
    3. Spring managed transactions.
    4. Accessed using Local interface.
    5. Injected using Spring XML.

Completely agree (though I'm admittedly biased). Much of the negative perception comes from pre - EJB 3.0. Also want to point out that we're building on the success of EJB 3.0 to further simplify the programming model and add a number of long-requested features in EJB 3.1 (http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=318) To name a few :
-- Optional Local interfaces so a session bean can be developed using only a bean class
-- Packaging and deployment directly in a .war without the need of a separate ejb-jar
    -- Singleton session beans
    -- Application Startup/Shutdown callbacks
    -- Asynchronous session bean invocations
-- Automatic timer creation and calendar-based timers
    and more...

  • The GTK icon cache conspiracy

I've wondered for a while why GTK (both 2 and 3) seem so slow even on (relatively) powerful computers.
I've also wondered why stock Slackware is very responsive... And why it is equally slow to boot.
Turns out all those things are connected. GTK uses a cache file that helps it access icons. Keep the cache updated with gtk-update-icon-cache, and GTK wil be fast. Do not use the cache, and it will be slow.
Slackware solves this by running the cache updater on boot. Especially with Slack's completely non-parallel init system, this slows things down a bit, but makes for a very response Xfce desktop.
Most other major distros... Don't seem to deal with this. Debian and Fedora at least do not, and I'm pretty sure Ubuntu doesn't either.
That's reasonable for a DIY distro like Arch, or if you're running a server without X. Otherwise, though, I have to wonder what gives, because users will definitely be left wondering why their desktop is slower than Windows 7 on the same hardware. Why not e.g. package a cache-updating script for desktop users, and run it as a daily cron job? Heck, why not package it as an initscript? Slackware's initscripts do nothing in parallel, but most desktop distributions boot quite fast, and that shouldn't be compromised by updating the icon caches.
Is there any particular reason why nobody (other than Pat Volkerding and company) does this as part of a default desktop setup? Other than that it doesn't help KDE and Qt applications, perhaps?

On my Arch system I grepped my local repo PKGCHECK files (output of namcap for the package) to find packages that seemed to lack the call to gtk-update-icon-theme:

Notice that namcap complained that gpodder and handbrake had "no call to gtk-update-icon-cache" but they do have the update in their install scripts, which their pkgbuilds fail to use properly
The funniest failure is the hicolor-icon-theme package itself:  if fails to update the hicolor icon cache!

  • YEARS-old issue with slow play, 100% cpu usage, and conspiracy theories

I've had the same issue for YEARS now, with flash videos (like on youtube) and games starting out okay, but after a little while, they just start to stutter and slow way down, while the CPU usage goes up to ridiculous levels. The browser doesn't matter, firefox or chrome, online content or run off the local hard drive. I have the latest flash player, and this has been a problem ever since at least version 9. I'm using XP. I think version 8 never had this issue, but unfortunately all recent games and youtube videos won't run with version 8. Adobe did something with recent versions of flash player that causes this issue now. Google search and you'll see countless threads from people with all kinds of computers with all kinds of specs having the exact same issue.
There has never been an entry in the Adobe knowledgebase about it, despite the persistence of this problem.
It's like it's a coverup or something. The more I think about it, the more it reminds me about when the Netscape browser was caught secretly uploading information to their servers and resulting in browser slowdowns. Is flash player doing the same thing? Adobe has already been caught out with spyware-like activities with Photoshop connecting to Omniture through the flash-enabled splash screens that were purposely disguised to look like they were innocently connecting to a user's local system, but in fact connecting to stat and online marketing sites. Is this why this years-old problem has never been addressed in any official way? Now I'm just rambling. I want a fix. It's been years now that I haven't been able to enjoy more than a few minutes worth of flash content.
At this point, even if Adobe shrugged their shoulders and said "yeah, we know about the problem but we have no idea how to fix it" would be better than nothing at all.

  • Is there some conspiracy against Microsoft? Problems After Effects and Illustrator in Windows 8.1

After Effects, Illustrator,  these programs do not work in Windows 8.1.
Language problems. It is impossible to use the programs in Spanish.
I hope that they solve it

It is a widespread problem. I have done a clean install of the system. So there is no conflict with another application.
    The problem is as follows:
This application is not compatible with the language of the current operating system.
Open the control panel "Regional and language options" in the Windows Start menu.
Then, on the Advanced tab, change the "Language for non-Unicode programs" setting to match the language of the application.
And the application is running in English.
There was no problem with Windows 8. All has begun with the Windows 8.1 update
Only occurs with Ilustrator CS6, Ilustrator CC, Illustrator CS5 and After Effects.
