Constant & erratic "Page Load Error" with Safari and Firefox

A week or two ago, I started getting constant "Page Load Errors" ('this page cannot be found', etc) when browsing with either Safari or Firefox. These are not dead sites that time out, but are very live (and cannot be summoned no matter how many times refresh)!
Something is wrong on my computer's end: I have strong wireless, have tried connecting with ethernet, and have used a different network. All of these produce the same result, where about half of the sites I try to connect to are instantly declared as dead by any browser I use.
I am not using any firewall, and have emptied both browser's caches.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Cliff

I'm having the same problem. It only happens at home over my DSL connection. Here is what I have tried and the results.
This really started bothering me since I upgraded to a recent Macbook Pro. I tried my original MBP with Leopard and found it doing the same thing. I ended up testing from my G4 and it works fine. The problem occurs over wireless and wired. I tried changing my MTU size with no change. I thought it was DNS but changed to other DNS and it didn't make a difference. Happens in Safari and Firefox. I am thinking it has an effect on iTune store also. The problem goes away when I VPN in to work, comes back when I close the VPN.
Just tonight I installed an clean 10.5 Leopard on my original MBP. Safari works perfectly. Instead of updating to 10.5.6, I download the 10.5.5 update. After updating the problem reappeared.
Again, my G4 with latest Tiger update work fine and both Macbook Pros with the latest Leopard have a problem over my DLS connection. They work perfectly fine at work and other locations.

Problems with Safari and Firefox (HTTP?)
    On a laptop G4, 10.5.8 and Safari 5.02 I experience the following:
On the account of my oldest daughter everything works fine, i.e. wireless internet works and no problems with mail or safari.
On the same laptop, on the account of my other daughter, the wireless is OK, she can mail etc. But safari nor firefox works. It says: can’t find server (whatever site) and in the activity window it looks if safari tries to open files (in the safari preferences-folder) in stead of http. Same applies to Firefox, so maybe it has more to do with HTTP in general?
What goes wrong? What to do? I tried the following on the host terminal (tips from Apple)
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
    and
    defaults delete com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled
    but that did not help,
    Nanne

I'm still wondering why it happens now at this moment in time...
PC does seem to be a bit odd & inconsistent, the few times I've tested with it, at least so far as we content filtering goes; and if I remember rightly, you're not the first to report previously ok settings suddenly preventing some or all internet until pc is switched off altogether.
    It may work when re-enabled

  • Firefox works with dial-up but get "page load"error with FIOS

Firefox works well with a local dial-up, but I keep getting "page load"error message when I try to use FIOS. The connections look good, and Firefox is enabled with the Windows security firewall.
I did have some connections unplugged when I was moving the computer and router around.
I have run out of ideas to fix it.

  • Flash has suddenly stopped working with Safari and Firefox.

I have a Wordpress blog. Suddenly, Flash has stopped working on Safari and Firefox in relation to my Wordpress module. But everything works fine from my PC laptop and other MACs owned by friends, etc. It is only on my iMac that Flash has stopped working. Any ideas?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version?

  • I cannot get a website page to print with Safari and it does it fine with Windows Explorer.

When printing a report from a website with Safari, it will not print to my HP C6380 printer.  This process works fine on Windows Explorer.  What do I need to do to get Safari to print properly?

How is it hardwired-USB or Ethernet?

  • Prob with web pages loading w. Chrome and Firefox

I am having problems with Google Chrome and Mozilla FireFox completely loading some internet pages. I have to hit the refresh button over and over and sometimes that does not even work. I have cleared all of the browswer history and that was not effective. I have a Mac Book Pro purchased around April of 2010. I thought it may be an internet prob in my house but I have no issues with streaming video or downloading anything.  Any help would be appreciated. I have not tested it on a hard wire conneection, only wireless.
    Thanks, Jeff

Well it is all kinds that should work, like Facebook, ESPN, JC Penny, MMA Junkie,  I just read a post on MAC Forums or something and I went it to the wireless advanced settings and disabled the ipv6 under the tcp/ip tab and i am going to try that. It seems to be working so far.  have you heard of this setting and what it is for?

  • Problem with Safari and Firefox opening some websites

In Firefox I have recently been getting:
    THE CONNECTION IS RESET
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web
    Also a message in Safari:
"Safari can’t open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open the page later."
It is only occurring with a few sites, but occurs on the same websites in both browsers.
I'm using an iMac, running OSX 10.4.11 and using Airport to connect to a Netgear wireless router.
I've emptied cashes, cleaned cookies, reset browsers etc, I've run MacScan, but the problem persists.
Having already done some on-line searches I have seen people talk about proxies, DNS and possible malware (though usually referring solutions to PC's.
Any one know of a fix for this?

    Hi,
Make sure your are running the latest version of Safari. From the Safari Menu Bar click: About Safari
The version number will be displayed there. You need to be using 4.0.4 If Safari needs updating go to your Apple Menu then click Software Updates.
Safari 4.0.4 requires the 2009-001 Security Update. Open System Preferences/Software Updates - Installed Updates. If that update is not listed go here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_001__Tiger_PPC
Also, open System Preferences/Network. Select the tab. Make sure none of the boxes are
checked under: Select a proxy server to configure
Try disconnecting the router from it's power source for 5 minutes, reconnect the router and
    restart your Mac.

  • My Macbook Pro has trouble loading websites in Safari and Firefox.  I have already erased history. Why can this be? And what can I do about it?

I have been having trouble.  Some websites I have accessed before are not loading correctly.  Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't load. Sometimes they load, but you only see a list of links.  I am somewhat confused because I have never had any problems with my Macs before.  Why could this be? What can I do about it?
    Thank you.

  • PLEASE help me to download Abode REader. I have a Mac leopard and have tried all day to do it with Safari and firefox. my e-mail address is (removed by mod)

I wanted to print out a label for the USPS mailing service and apparently Adobe Reader is required. I've printed out the label many times before without going this route, but USPS says it is now required. In trying to download Adobe Reader when I click on the download, it just won't take. what's going on. also, don't you have a phone number whereby customers can call you? most of the questions don't answer the questions.

Mozilla (like most developers of free software) doesn't provide phone support. This is our support channel.
Have you tried reading [[Use the Adobe Reader plugin to view or download PDF files]] and the steps listed there?

  • Safari (and Firefox) freezing on all pages with embedded video

Hi, is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any pages with video, with the exception of YouTube, have been freezing on both Safari and Firefox (Hulu, etc.). They don't load and I have to force quit the applications (and, of course, not watch video). Is anyone else having this problem? I've repaired permissions, emptied the cache, delete the plist file, and it's still happening.
Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions? All help appreciated. M

I was having a problem with Safari and Firefox and Camino quitting when I tried to view an online video, such as full length episodes on the TV network websites. I upgraded Adobe Flash to the latest version (version 9.0.124.0) and then repaired permissions and this took care of the problem. (Before I posted this I double checked the fix by going to the CBS and NBC web sites and watching 5 minutes of CSI:NY and Chuck and both played fine with nary a hiccup.)

  • Safari and Firefox crashing

    Hi
My browser crashes every time try to open a new email in gmail This is happening both with Safari and Firefox. When i switch to the basic mode - html only i am able to access my mail. I have a similar problem with both of them when i try and access the options page in my account at http://www.wordpress.com .
I can access my address book easily in gmail making daily emailing a huge chore. I have to remember people's addresses and type it in as autotype doesnt function. Also chat and the other extras in gmail dont work. In wordpress I cant change the settings in my account unless I log in with my husbands windows laptop.
I used to have this problem earlier and decided that it had something to do with gmail being new as I hadnt experimented with another browser then. The problem went away with a software update and as far as i can tell has resurfaced after another.
I've put below a crash report from Safari. Here I was trying to open an email using the gmail website.
    Please help.

    Hi,
The crash you posted would seem to indicate it is font related. Did you install/remove any fonts recently?
Check in FontBook to see if you have any duplicates that could be affecting things also? Check the FontBook help on how to resolve duplicates.
You may also want to try Font Finagler which can clear out font caches used by the system (it's possible there's some corruption in these cache files that are causing Safari/Firefox to crash).

  • Safari and Firefox spinning beachball of death––HELP I can't use the net

Today, 3/30, a new problem surfaced. Nearly every time I click on any link or go to any website, I get the spinning beachball of death. After 1 to 5 minutes, it stops and the page appears. When I go to the next page or link, it starts again. I have a Mac Pro 2008, Leopard which has been running just fine for months. No recent changes.
It does not occur on the other macs on my home network.
It happens with Safari and Firefox.
It happens with ethernet or wifi connection.
I have repaired permissions, run a full tech tools pro diagnostic, and of course I have rebooted several times. Nothing changes.
This makes my computer totally unusable for internet. Any ideas? (Obviously I am writing this post on another computer.)

You are not the only one I have the same issue. Sorry this post is'nt to but to let you know others are having the same issue my Imac works great but my LT is worthless

  • Safari and Firefox wont work on my work server

When I am at work using my macbook on the wireless server certain web pages will not load on both safari and firefox. Other people here have the same computer as I do but do not have the same problem. Images will not load in my emails and websites like Amazon, Target, etc will not load properly. I know that I am allowed to access these websites since my coworkers are able to on their computers.
I was wondering if I have to change the settings somewhere. The weird thing is that when I am at home using a wireless network the images and pages load perfectly fine.
    any suggestions?? thank you!!

When you say don't work, try totally shutting down the apps,  double click the home buttons and then find the Safari and Youtube apps hold your finger on the the apps for a few sec then tap the red minus sign. Then try to use the apps.

  • Safari and Firefox completely close on certain sites

I'm having trouble with safari and firefox closing down(disappearing) when I visit certain sites including some myspace profiles. I can open them right back up, but they will just close again when i visit a site that they don't like. I looked at the crash logs, but there isn't anything from these apps. I don't even get an error message, window just disappears and no arrows under the icons. anyone have an idea on how to fix this? thank you...

It's odd that both browsers shut down. One thing I notice from your "More system details" is that you don't have the latest Flash player plugin, at least for Firefox. You can check your version and update here:
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Hopefully that will help if the crashes are caused by Flash (e.g., rich media advertisements).
