Constant reboot on 845 ultra-c with 3ware raid cntrlr

All,
I am having a problem with a unit I am building (actually two) where the unit is constantly rebooting when I insert all the PCI cards that I need.
I am building a DVR system using a 3 card DVR array. I have one live video card, One master (120FPS) and one slave (addtl 120FPS) and all 3 are PCI boards.
The system is running with a 3ware IDE RAID controller card - also a PCI slot card and 4 200Gig drives.
If I install the last DVR card (this can be any of the 3 types in any slot) then the unit will not boot all the way to the OS. OS is XP Pro BTW.
I get past the Bios and raid stuff and then black screen for about 30 secs and then a quick flash of a blue screen and then it reboots and hots the "Not properly shut down - please choose from the ....." Screen.
I also have no idea how - or if - you can slow the boot process down to see what is written on the blue screen that pops up - too fast to catch on pause.
Im getting desperate after working with the PC manufacturer and the DVR card/software company - Im getting nowhere.
Ive tried changing slots a number of times and also changed the IRQ settings from AUTO to seperate levels and still no change.
Pull one of those three cards out - and it boots fine.
Any ideas will be appreciated - email or on list.
Email is: [email protected]
-Thanks

The 845 Ultra has bios versions from 3.0 to 3.4 so you either wrote the wrong version or the wrong board.

  • MSI 845 Ultra C with sound card???

    I recently bought a P4 2 Ghz with MSI 845 Ultra C, Geforce 4 Ti4200 128.
A few weeks later i bought a simple sound card with surround support. Now when i try to install this software (Xp compatible) i get the error that the sound card is not installed and that the data is incorrect. I use the latest drivers from the internet. I believe this problem had to do with the onboard sound card of the motherboard. Is there anyway i can disable that???

it is an XP bug, you might try windows update to see if MS fixed it.
Here is for example ATI's doumentation of the error.
I assume the bug won't be fixed by the update, so in that case you need to reinstall XP with the card already insalled in the slot.

  • MSI 845 Ultra

I have MSI 845 Ultra mainboard with ATA 133 raid, but I can´t change Raid options from Raid setup (ctrl-f). Only available option is Performance (striping), but i need security (mirroring) option.  ?(  ?(  ?(

in RAID there is 2*80 gb set as master
as system disk is 40 gb as master and 80 as slave
what i want is to mirror 40 to 80... originally it was supposed to have 80 as a system disk but there was "difficulties" to set w2k.srv to 80 gb disk. No problems with 40..... mysterious machine )

  • Constant reboots on my iMac (early 2009) with Mountain Lion. Why?

I know there are a number of threads here speaking of similar problems, I've tried the steps mentioned there...to no avail.
I have an early 2009 iMac with a 24" display, 3.06 Ghz Core2 Duo. Memory has been upgraded to 8 GB.
The problem is: Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I get constant reboots, sometimes I can't even have the machine running for more than 30 minutes without it starting again. This is making it impossible for me to work. I've posted the last panic report at the end of this message. What I've noticed so far in all the panic messages is that the last loaded or unloaded extensions are always the same ones, no matter if my machine is restarting after 30 seconds or 4 hours. Could that be something helpful?

So it's ALWAYS either a file system extension or the USBCDC one. Always. Is that useless info or can I do some further testing in a specific direction here?
I've done the Apple Hardware Test in a loop for more than 8 hours without any problems, I've done a memtest in terminal without any problems. I've bootet in safe mode and still got a reboot. I've disconnected all external stuff (only using a Cintiq, a DAC with speakers and keyboard/mouse anyway)
Can anybody give me any more tips? Oh, and I've reinstalled Mountain Lion (clean install from recovery partition) a few times already. No change in behavior.

Update: It just happened again, this time while doing a backup with Time Machine. Could it be my Keyboard?
I'm not using a Bluetooth keyboard, but one with a USB connection. Sometimes I'm connecting my backup drive to it, but reboots also happen without anything connected to the keyboard.
This time there's even backtrace info:

  • Help with motherboard MSI 845 Ultra-C

Hello, I have a problem with this motherboard:
When I connect something in the PCi slot, Windows recognize there are something there, but i can´t install it because it can't recognize the drivers. I tried to change the slot, I have installed the last drivers of the motherboard and there is no way to use the PCIs slot. All the things I have tried, works perfectly in another computer, i have the original drivers and they have work time ago. If anyone can help i'll very very pleased. Thank you!
edit: I have made a clear CMOS and it doesn't work
Forgive muy English, but i`m spanish.

  • Strange ide problem with 845 ultra

i have got a really strange problem with my 845 ultra board
    I have a 2.0 GHz cpu in it, 2x 256MB Nanya CAS2 ddr, , gf4ti and a Realtek nic, onboard audio
    ide ports:
    primary master: IBM 80GB hdd
    primary slave : Lite-On dvd
    secundary master: Lite-On 40x cd-rw
Whenever I burn a cd, the whole system hangs while writing the lead-in and lead-out, after that is complete, everything works fine again
Also, when i add files to my Winamp playlist, I always get a general protection fault in Winamp.exe...
And, yes I did check my ram with Memtest86, it is fine
Even a fresh install of either windows 2000 sp3 or windows xp doesn't have any effect, even with all WHQL certified drivers installed
The strange thing is: If I connect all ide devices on a Promise Ultra100 TX2, all problems disappear.
So, is my onboard ide controller dying?
btw, all ide devices work fine in my brothers k7t266 pro2..
    edit: fixed it
Never knew that the Intel ide drivers needed to be installed.
I have never needed any ide drivers for any board,so this surprises me.

  • 845 Ultra + Adaptec Raid 2400a

[ May be a bit off topic sorry ]
    Hi,
    Motherboard : MSI 845 Ultra Ver 1
    Bios Version : 1.50
Graphic controler : Generic PCI VGA
    Ram : 2x 256 DDR
    Raid controler : Adaptec 2400a
( at the end there should be 2 of those raid controlers with 6 HD connected to it : 2 x 40 Gb IBM ICL series and 4 x 120 Gb Maxtor D540 series )
I'm having problems entering my raid card bios using this motherboard.
I type my " ctrl + A " to enter the bios, and the only thing I get is 2 lines with a random text in different color on the top of my screen. I'm able to Ctrl+alt+del to reboot, and able to boot without trying to enter the raid card bios.
I changed my raid card, and my disks connected to it. I changed the PCI slot.
Anyone have a Clue for that ? Anyone was able to use that kind of controler on that MB ?
    Regards ...

The 845 Ultra has bios versions from 3.0 to 3.4 so you either wrote the wrong version or the wrong board.

  • Constant reboot after IOS4 upgrade Solved!

I too was having the dreaded error 29 code and stuck in recovery mode along with the 5 minute constant reboot since upgrading to IOS4 two days ago. I had to use Blackra1n to get it out of recovery. Blackra1n will NOT jailbreak IOS4 but will fix the stuck recovery mode problem. I also had previously replaced the battery with a higher capacity mAh. the upgrade to v3.1.3 went perfect. Only when I upgraded to IOS4 did things change. It would constantly reboot and the battery was slowly draining and would not recharge. I poured through countless forum posts and tried most all of them. Then this evening I found a post somewhere in this forum about possibly the battery was causing the problem. So I got out my tools and put the original battery back in and booted up. It got to the front screen and immediately a bunch of old calendar events started popping up which was different than before. I cleared them all and I have now had my iphone on steady for over an hour and not one reboot. Battery is also now recharging off my laptop.
So long story short, if you've replaced your battery at some point, put it back in or hopefully an OEM with same APN: 616-0434 (#for my iPhone). Everything is now working in IOS4!
Good battery replacement guide here: http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/iphone-3g-s-repair/iphone-3g-s-dissasembly-rep air-guide.html

    Booted into Faunos Live system.
As root, ran Fsck on the HDD with inode problem.  Answered yes to all system repair queries.
Rebooted into archlinux HDD with no problems.

  • HELP!!! MBA will not boot. It's in a constant "reboot loop!"

Hi! I was having issues with my MBA and it's well known problem with getting a bit hot and shutting down the core etc. One post mentioned coolbook. Several peole gave it the thumbs up so I decided to give it a try. Installed it and was asked to restart. Now my MBA is in a constant reboot loop and will not start-up. it gets as far as the gray screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel. Then about a minute or so later it reboots. And this goes on and on forever. The MBA is now insanely hot and I have turned the MBA off not to cause any damage.
I can not boot in safe mode.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!

thanks for the views, but seems nobody wanted to help. cheers for that!
i managed to reboot using the OS X DVD and reinstalling. Now I have an eject symbol in my system bar top right corner and my superdrive will not "eject". this means I can not use the USB for anything else. meanwhile I ejected the OS X DVD from the drive and tried to reinsert it. NADA.
Getting to the point where I am fed up with the MBA. It gets so hot I could fry an egg on it. The system must be running something in the background, becasue even with a new install it still is slow and stutters (and no, I did not start you tube!) either this is from a real crappy batch, or I looked at it the wrong way.
Looks like I am heading back to the MBpro.

  • My iPad 2 is in a state of constant reboot! Help!

My iPad 2 is currently in a state of constant reboot - cycling continually between the Apple icon and the "waiting" icon (wheel of death, as I've seen it referred to).  It cannot be interrupted, and keeps going for hours until it runs out of battery.
I've tried the hardware reset a few times, which interrupts the cycle, and brings up the Apple icon, but then it just immediately retuns to it's previous state of constant reboot.
I've tried connecting it to iTunes. iTunes recognises it but says I have to unlock it with my unlock key. I cannot do this because it is not possible to interrupt the reboot sequence to get the input panel.
It is not jailbroken, and I'm happy to have it restored from scratch.
I am in China temporarily, and my iPad has become quite a lifeline for me, and am devastated that it's stopped working.
I can take it to the Apple Store here, but would prefer to fix this from home.  However, I also don't want to mess this up such that the Apple store folks think I've tried to Jailbreak the iPad, because that definitely is not my intention!
    Any thoughts/hints/tips?
    Thanks.

Restore seems to be the best option. Have you tried a hard reset ?

  • Advice badly needed on 845 ultra DDRs

    hi ppl ... greetings !
I have a pair of PC2100 (266mhz) DDR 128mb memory in my PC now.
I have been given a pair of PC3100 (333mhz) 256mb DDR ... but not sure if I can put it in my PC (because the manual said it only support PC2100 & PC1600).
Will putting the 333mhz DDRs work ?  (or worse, kill my PC ??)  I was told that it will still work but at 266mhz if I mix it with the (266mhz) 128mb DDRs ?  Is this true ?

  • Can I get NetWare drivers for 845 ULTRA ARU?

845 ULTRA ARU is a good mainboard and it's integrated RAID controller PROMISE ULTRA 133 is a fast solution for WIN 2000 server and Linux server applications. But unfortunatelly I can't get drivers for Novell NetWare 5.x. No driver avalilable on PROMISE WEB works...

    Thanks Cristian,
Unfortunately what I am using is a Moxa V2101 - it is essentialy a ruggedized netbook computer about the size of a desktop CD-ROM drive, about half of it is heatsink and ports. It's OS is on a compact flash card and data recorded on an SD card.
About the only option would be a usb-Ethernet adapter, I don't know what my chances of finding an intel version of this are, or if LV R/T can see it.
It sounds like I am stuck with Win XPe and LV runtime.
Looks like Microsoft will pick up yet another licence fee for the OS, Not NI.
I will continue to seek a solution with an intel ethernet chipset.
It would be good if NI would support a few more NIC manufactures.
I suspect that this product may have been a convenient spinoff from their PXI embedded PC development.

  • Help needed pls!!! GF4 Ti4800 SE 8X on MSI 845 Ultra?

    Hi folks,
    I just purchased a GF4 Ti4800 SE 128mb 8X.
I own a MSI 845 Ultra ARU (6398), I understand this board only supports up to 4X AGP, but the GF4 card should be able to "downgrade" to work with a 4x motherboard, I hope.
Booting up is ok, but graphics start to tear on the window start-up screen. At the desktop, once i click the mouse, the desktop will hang like for 1 sec, then the monitor switch to Black screen, and then back desktop, this repeats when i click the mouse. There are also some weird colors here and there.
    Can anyone pls advise?

  • Macbook constant reboot cycle

I own a 2ghz Macbook with 2gb ram and am running Mac OS X 10.5.2.
I have performed all the latest software updates but now my Macbook is stuck in a cycle of booting, getting to the grey screen with the apple, churning for a few minutes then rebooting. It continues to do this and never reaches the OS.
I've found if I boot from the Leopard DVD, cancel the install and reboot from the menu it boots properly and as long as I sleep it, it will work correctly. But if I reboot or shutdown and start again I get stuck in the constant reboot cycle again.
    Any ideas?

A.E.S.'s suggestion is definitely the first thing to try. If Disk Utility does not resolve your issue and reports no underlying disk errors or is able to repair whatever disk errors it finds, try an Archive and Install. If Disk Utility reports underlying disk errors that it's unable to repair, you'll probably have to do an Erase and Install. Also, be sure to back up all important information before doing the Erase and Install.
