Constant unexpected shutdowns with Acrobat 9 Pro

I've submitted a bug report, but this is really getting annoying:
The specs: OSX 10.5.6 - Acrobat 9 Pro, Macbook Pro Unibody, 4gb ram
The problem: Every single time I close a comments-enabled PDF (comments are on a webDAV server), Acrobat unexpectedly quits. (It OCCASIONALLY will not quit if I have a second PDF also open.)
If I try to recover the auto-saved version, I get the message "invalid annotation object" repeatedly, and the only way to exit is to do a force quit from the Finder.
It's happened about 30 times in the past 24 hours, and it's truly driving me insane.

There's not one single Preferences file. They seem to be spread through different files.
I'd delete all the files in: Users > [yourname] > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat
I'd delete all the files in Users > [yourname] > Library > Preferences > Acrobat folder
I'd delete all the files that reference Acrobat in Users > [yourname] > Library > Preferences > com.adobe.acrobat [all the files except the Uninstaller]
Then I'd run the Acrobat Uninstaller.
Then I'd reinstall Acrobat from scratch and do any updates [there are none at this date].
Uninstalling Acrobat doesn't remove preferences.

  • Cannot find .TIF file saved with Acrobat 9 Pro

I have a Canon document scanner that I use with Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows 7. I can scan the document into Acrobat, and save it as a PDF just fine. However, if I try to save it as a .TIF or a .TIFF, it appears to save just fine, but I'm unable to locate it afterwards. Here's what I've done so far:
    - Checked to make sure hidden files are visible in Windows Explorer
    - Made sure the permissions for the folder allowed writing files (even saved the TIF files to the same folder as the PDF files)
    - Searched for the filename with Windows Search. It finds the file, but when I try to click on it to open the file, Windows says that the file cannot be found.
We're needing this for importing documents into a LIMS program, and we can't get that working until this part gets resolved. Anything that you can think of to help would be great. Thank you!

Solved: It appears to be a Microsoft Word issue as it doesn't occur with other apps. When using the built-in 'convert to PDF' tool within Word the file name length is respected. It's an older version of Word (Word 2002 SP3). I printed a file using the same name length with Wordperfect and it works fine.
I know this isn't a Word help forum, but if anyone does have a solution to offer it would be appreciated :-)

    Hi higi97,
How are you connected to the internet? Are you behind a particularly secure corporate firewall? Are you on Mac or Windows? Do you have any anti-malware software running on your machine that may be preventing applications other than your browser from connecting to the internet?
You may try to follow the steps below:
    1.Close the Creative Cloud application.
    2.Navigate to the OOBE folder.
    Windows: [System drive]:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
    Mac OS: /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE folder
    3.Delete the opm.db file.
    4.Launch Creative Cloud.
Let us know if that helps,
    Regards,

  • Please a solution against crashes when opening a file with Acrobat XI pro?

    Hello,
Am a member of Adobe Creative Cloud.
Am also constantly having crashes when opening a file with Acrobat XI pro.
Am running on Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit - RAM 20 GB -
The crash happens systematically after the installation of the update. Within one day I uninstalled and reinstalled the program 4x! It takes of a lot of my time.... Thank you for providing a definitive solution!
    Best regards

I've been having the same issue!  I try to open it and it crashes - says re-open, it crashes...  I re-installed it yesterday and it opened and worked fine.  Closed it out at the end of the day thinking everything was finally fine but this morning the same crashes it had yesterday...  HELP!!!

  • Errors on saved form when designed with Acrobat 9 Pro

I have created a file with Acrobat 9 Pro with fields, check boxes, etc.... for customers to fill in, save, and e-mail/print .
I finally managed to get the form to be saved by any Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 (or above). But when they open their saved , filled-in form, the contents have changed! The boxes they have ticked are no longer ticked, but others are instead...

LiveCycle Designer is no longer distributed as part of the Acrobat release. I think it is available as a separate product. At this point, Acrobat provides the AcroForm type tools (kind of hard to get to, just as in some previous versions) and the option for Forms Central. The whole focus has changed. I suspect that others may be in the same situation of trying to get their forms to interact in Acrobat or Forms Central, but at this point I do not think there is any way to back Designer forms into either of the two current formats. Not much help, but a comment in any case.

  • Optimize my pdf file with Acrobat 10 pro

I have always been able to optimize my pdf file with Acrobat 10 pro until now.  It gives me the following error.  Runtime error, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the applications support team for more information.  I just need to make it smaller as there is a cap on the senders end that I am sending it to.  I have also tried the reduce pdf and get the same reply.  [email protected]

PDF's with forms can only be optimized with a SAVE AS and the option set to "Save File For Fast Webviewing".
Be sure that option is set and just do a save as and then rename the file back to your original.

  • Fillable Form Fields Created With Acrobat XI Pro on Mac Won't Save on PCs?

    Hi all,
Apologies if this has been covered already, but I've done a search of the forums that have turned up nothing.
Briefly, I have created a fillable form with Acrobat XI Pro on a Mac. The original file was created with InDesign CS6.
Once the fields were created in Acrobat, the file was saved as a Reader Extended PDF.
The problem is that Mac users are able to fill in the fields and save the PDF, while Windows users are not.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You recommended answer seem to imply that the users are using Preview. When according the OP in that thread makes no mention on Mac except he created the form on Mac everyone else is using a PC. If anyone is using preview that answer would apply. If anyone filled out the form using Preview then follow the advice in the Link
I would say your using possibly the wrong Font or the wrong version of the font. If anyone has Acrobat on a PC open the form on a PC if the form fields appear as though nothing is there, then see if you can change the font used. Just try anything other than what is listed. See if the text appears.  If it does then you have a defective font or  the Mac and PC don't use the same version.
On Mac, if you have more than one version of a Font Style, say Aerial Italic for example, issues like this invisible text will happen. Macs don't tolerate more than one version of the same Font.  You can't have two versions of say Aerial Italic or Helvetica Bold or Courier Bold Italic. PCs you can have 50 copies of the same font and it don't matter. The applications just pick one if it happens to be different then That it.
In Reader or Acrobat you might set to use local Fonts that might clear up the issue On Mac go to Preferences and Page Display:
    Check use local Fonts.

  • PDF initially freezes when opening with Acrobat 9 Pro and Acrobat Reader

    Hi-
Every time I open a pdf, either with Acrobat 9 Pro or Acrobat Reader, it freezes the application for about 10-15 seconds.  Afterwards, it's fine.
    Any suggestions?
Im running XP Pro, 3.25GB of RAM

Any chance you are also using Quickbooks?  I understand from Intuit that there is a known issue between  Quickbooks and Acrobat 9.  My computer does the same exact thing and I am running Quickbooks Pro 2009. Windows XP Pro 64-bit.  According to the forums on Intuit, the same problem does not exist with Acrobat 8.  So, you have to uninstall Acrobat 9 then in stall 8.  The problem is that the uninstall does not completely uninstall 9 so you can't install 8 successfully.  Apparently Adobe has an uninstaller that will remove ALL of Acrobat 9 but you have toi get it from tech Support - if you can find one that speaks English well enough to understand what the problem is and what you need. Then you need to find a copy of 8 to use.
The problem is not in opening Acrobat.  It opens just fine.  It doesn't lock up until you open a PDF file.

  • Can I add a Youtube video to a PDF with Acrobat 9 Pro?

I was reading about PDF portfolios in Acrobat X Pro: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/online-eportfolios-multimedia-presentations.html
It says and I quote, "With Acrobat X Pro, you can also present live web content. For example,  you can insert a YouTube video to play within your PDF Portfolio, or you  can add a web page that will dynamically load the most current page  content. Anyone can view your PDF Portfolio using free Adobe Reader®  software."
Is this also possible with Acrobat 9 Pro? I have tried following all the steps (I even did a search and found this: http://teacherlink.ed.usu.edu/tlresources/training2/acrobat/AcrobatwMultimedia.pdf), however, whenever I add the Youtube url using the multimedia tool in Acrobat, I get the message 'no media file has been specified.'
Is it not posisble to add Youtube videos to PDFs in version 9 pro?

PDF Portfolios in Acrobat X support the use of 'live' Web pages as documents (they open in an embedded browser window). You can therefore create a reference to a page from the YouTube website, but the content will only appear if the viewer has a Web connection and allows trust access. It's essentially no different to including a Web link in a regular file, except the browser appears within the Acrobat or Adobe Reader window.

  • LINK TROUBLE WITH ACROBAT 8 PRO

I am in Win XP Pro with Acrobat 8 Pro, working out of a word processing program (WP) with a text that has some 4-line url's, such as
    http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/fetch.jsp?LANG=ENG&DBSELECT=PCT&SERVER_TYPE=19-00&SORT=412608 93-KEY&TYPE_FIELD=256&IDB=0&IDOC=1696415&C=00&ELEMENT_SET=BASICHTML-ENG&RESULT=25&TOTAL=13 511&START=1&DISP=25&FORM=SEP-0/HITNUM,B-ENG,DP,MC,AN,PA,ABSUM-ENG&SEARCH_IA=US2
When I print this wp file to pdf and create links in the pdf file, the above url is not recognized or truncated - it does not work while 1- and 2-line url's work fine.  Now if I resort to Tools > Advanced Editing > Link tool, just putting a frame around the url does not work either, until I select "open a web page" where Acrobat asks me for the link again, and I have to paste it in even though it already is in the pdf.  Of course, I can just create a small "clickable window" and use the link tool on it, but I still have to paste in the 4 lines.  So in my document, I have to shuttle 50 times between Acrobat and WP, copying the link from the latter and then pasting it into pdf, laboriously, one by one.
Is there not a better way?
My second problem is that once the Link Tool is checked, the little hand with the W for recognizing links is inoperative, and I haved to close Acrobat and restart - then everything is fine.  Clicking on any of the other tools does not seem to help.
    Edwin M

Actually, your links are probably not embedded as you think, but just is Acrobat seeing something that looks like a link and marking it as such. It has problems when multiple lines are included due to the line structure. I am not sure that WP has the PDF Maker capability that gives the links. If you can embed PDF Marks in your WP file (probably as an EPS file like used to be done for transitions), you may be able to transfer the link that way - probably easier to just create it in the PDF. Adding the PDF Marks is basically what PDF Maker does for WORD. I don't remember if WP has the PDF Maker capabilities with Acrobat.

  • Embedded audio and video files with Acrobat x Pro

Can an audio or video file be embedded in a document with Acrobat x Pro & opened with Adobe Reader xi?

You can place video or sound files onto the pages of a PDF file using the Multimedia button on the Tools Pane > Content Panel. The result is called a Rich Media Annotation, and will play back on the desktop versions of Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader.
The files have to be compatible with Flash Player, so videos need to be in H.264, FLV or F4V, and audio files in MP3.

  • Using an Osprey 100 card with Acrobat Connect Pro and Vista

Intrigued by a comment I saw on another forum, I tried setting each of the EXE files associated with an Osprey 100 card install in Vista to run in compatability mode for XP SP2, and my Osprey card analog inputs started working (at LAST!!) with Acrobat Connect Pro in Vista. This lets me attach VCRs/DVDs or any device with analog outputs to Acrobat Connect Pro without having to buy a new generation of Osprey or other Vista compatible analog capture cards.
    Perhaps this will help someone.

I believe I figured it was somewhere between Flash 5 and Flash 6. I say this because while the resulting presentations could be opened in QuickTime (which only uses Flash 5) a better result would be achieved by viewing in the browser. Either that, or QuickTime's Flash 5 support isn't complete.

Subject: How notification system work together with Acrobat X Pro?
    Hi Charles,
You want to modify the signature field properties and set a script to execute when the field is signed.
Here's how to get started in Acrobat X:
Open the file that will eventually be uploaded to the server
Click Tools on the top right to open the Tools panel
Expand Forms (click on Forms so you can see the buttons underneath)
    Click the Edit button
Right mouse click on the first signature field and then click Properties from the pop-up menu
Select the Signed tab on the Digital Signature Properties dialog
Select the This script executes when the field is signed radio button
    Click the Edit button
Add the following in the JavaScript Editor dialog:
              var cMyMsg = "Please log on the server and sign the document";
              app.mailMsg ({
                  bUI: true,
                  cTo: "mailto:[email protected]",
cSubject: "A document requires your attention",
                  cMsg: cMyMsg
Click the OK button on the JavaScript Editor dialog
Click the Close button on the Digital Signature Properties dialog
Click the Close Form Editing button in the Forms panel under Tools
    Save the PDF file
It's going to look something like this:
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/70913/SignScript.jpg
Give that a try and from and see what you think. You can set the strings as necessary and repeat for each signature field (except for the last one )

  • Does Forms Central come with Acrobat XI Pro for Educators or must it be purchased separately?

    I keep getting conflicting messages.
Does Forms Central come with Acrobat XI Pro for Educators or must it be purchased separately?

FormsCentral is an online subscription service.
It is not a built-in feature of Acrobat XI.
With that said Acrobat XI Pro does have a built-in "link" to FormsCentral and this provides an Acrobat centric user interface.
The actual "real deal" is online (the "web" / "cloud" - whatever).
    For that you'd visit:
    https://www.acrobat.com/en_us/products/formscentral.html
    About the subscription:
"The FormsCentral 30 Day Opt-Out trial gives you the option to try the Basic plan features for USD $0.99.
Simply add to cart and enter a credit card to set up your account.
After you place your order you will have 30 days to use FormsCentral.
At the end of the 30 day trial period your card will automatically be charged the standard monthly subscription rate of $14.99 so that you can continue to create, distribute, and manage your online forms and surveys.
Subscriptions cancelled within the first 30 days will be refunded in full.
To change or cancel your subscriptions, visit the My Subscriptions page on Adobe.com."
