Consulting job available - Translating Word files into RH

I am in immediate need of an experienced e-manual author using RoboHelp 8. This is a 2 to 3 week assignment that may run longer. It involves taking a set of previously written Word documents, complete with styles and formatting, and translating them into a well functioning RoboHelp web page to be deployed to our website as an e-manual. These manuals will have several video links, tables, images and multimedia assets.

Can no longer import Word files into InDesign

Hello,
For many months I have been importing Word files into InDesign CS3 (Mac OSX 10.4.11) with no trouble, but I started having a problem yesterday.
When importing a 17-page Word file with 16 footnotes, I got none of the text and only the footnote numbers. This is what I get in InDesign:

These are the things I've tried already: restarting, deleting preferences, changing the import options, using CS2, importing someone else's Word file, importing a Word file that I imported successfully a couple of months ago. None of this works.
It has been suggested that I save the Word file as rtf, but since I have 200 files to import and I'm using Word's character styles for italics, bold, small caps, etc., I'd rather try to fix this problem.
Can someone help?

I am using indesign CS2 and i'm trying to import a Word document into a new chapter for a book i'm laying out. it's about 30 pages, but there are at least 80 foot notes. i'm able to get about 1/2 of the document with the footnotes to flow correctly, then EVERYTHING disappears. the only way i've been able to get the remaining text to appear is by adding characters to the text. i'll hit "vvvvvvvvvvvv" a bunch of times and "magically" a little chunk of text and it's footnotes appears. then the ole disappearing act happens. so i do it again. i'm able to get all the text to appear finally, but when i delete the "vvvvvvvvvv" from the places i inserted them, the text disappears again. i have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. any ideas?

Acrobat XI Pro successfully installed, but it failed in converting word files into PDF, why?

I just installed Adobe XI Pro through the download assistant, it looks the installation went well, but when I tried to convert word files into PDF (tried many times), it failed. Anyone has the same problems, any solutions?

Please reply with more information - what your operating system is, do you have Office installed, and what exactly is happening. Is there an error message, does the application crash, and from where are you starting the conversion (using Word and PDFMaker, using Acrobat's Create button, or batch processing).

You can't use Ctrl V you have to click the camera Icon then browse to the image file and click insert image.

How to convert my words file into Adobe

Yes, you can convert the multiple Word files into PDF in one go.
Just select the documents at a time and then select "convert to pdf" from the right-click menu.

Problem when chenging a word file into PDF

when I convert a word file into a PDF one, the whole font of the file changes. I use in the original document arial 12, when I convert the file the size and font of the whole file changes, what can I do to avoid that to happen??? IT'S URGENT I use microsoft word 2010

How well a file converts depends largely on the quality of the original file.

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

I am having issues converting my word file into a pdf.

I am having issues converting my word file into a pdf. When I attempt the conversion the pdf download has text boxes overlapping each other. The word file does not have overlapping text boxes. I believe it is the margins of my word file but I am not certain. How can I accurately edit my word file then convert it into a pdf without the overlapping issue occuring?

You can attach documents to purchase orders using the object services button that appears by itself on the title line of the screen above the normal button bar.
To do this in a program - there are a number of class methods - look at classes beginning with CL_GOS*

Unable to insert a word file into PDF

Hi, I encountered a problem with Acrobat recently.
When inserting a word file into an existing PDF file, a reminder window will show up with “MS Word has stopped working” , and then Acrobat will remind me that it’s unable to open word file (see below picture). BTW, no such problem happened when insert other files with jpg or xls format.
How should i solve this problem?

The version installed in my pc was Acrobat X Pro.
I tried doc file, problem remained. Btw, no such problem happened when inserting other format files, such as jpg, excel.

I want to convert a word (excel, powerpoint, ...) into a PDF using a windows command line.
The command :
c:\> acrodist toto.ps
is working file and the output is a PDF file (toto.pdf)
But if i try with a MS office word file it is not working
c:\> acrodist toto.doc
The output in the console is:
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: ÐÏà¡±á ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
If i do a right clic on the file with the mouse and select in the context menu the option convert to PDF it is working fine :-\
How can i convert that kind of file with a command line ?

This is equivalent to using the PDFMaker facility in Word - that is,
the Acrobat button. Which is also the same thing that is done when you
use File > Create PDF > From File in Acrobat.
What it does is print to a PS file *and* do a lot of additional
processing to write stuff about links, tags etc. into the PS file.
>(no tmp PS file is used, cause the links are still working).
This isn't true, but it's certainly the case that you won't get links.
There seems to be no API, via any mechanism, still less the "obsolete"
(Microsoft's view) command line, to use PDFMaker from your program.

Batch importing Word files into separate InDesign files

Hi,
I have what I though would be a fairly common question, but I can't seem to find any information about it in this forum or on the web.
I have a folder of Word files (over 100, which is why I don't want to do this manually) and one InDesign CS4 file that I'd like to use as a template (basically it's just a couple of pages with some threaded text boxes and a few images). I would like to write a script that will go through the Word files, one by one, and pull each into the text box in the InDesign file before saving it as a new copy (ideally with the same name as the Word file). So, if I have 100 Word files and one InDesign file in a folder, I'd like to be able to run a script and end up with 100 new InDesign files.
I think I can deal with importing and placing the text, and saving the file again. It's mostly the question of using javascript to go through a folder to find all of the filenames so that I can pass the name to the import file command that is confusing me.
Oh, I'm on a Mac with OS 10.6 and using InDesign CS4.

Before reinstalling (which is most often unneeded) it would be useful to test the way the app behave when it is used in an other User Account.
If it behave flawlessly, no need to reinstall it.
If it doesn't, it *_may be useful_* to reinstall it but it's not sure.
Nothing prove that the problem is really linked to the installed application's files.
It may be linked to a file built on the fly like preferences or fonts cache…

Import Word file into PP CS6?

Is there way to import a Word .docx file into Premiere Pro? It's a long document that I'd like to slowly scroll for about 10 minutes.

I did actually mean to write "Scroll" in previous post rather than "Crawl", my mistake.
Scroll is like movie credits. Create your Scroll title, then on timeline you can drag to any length desired, which affects the speed of the scroll. If you open the title again in the Titler, at upper left next to font selection there is an icon for "Scroll options" - this adds some additional parameters affecting the behavior of the scroll like Start Off Screen, or Ease In, etc.
