I have given my niece my old iPhone 4 and she has deleted my contacts on my iPhone 5 how can I restore and stop this happening again

You should have erased the phone before giving it to her, then got her her own Apple ID to set up the phone with. Unless you have a backup to restore from, your contacts are gone.

Hello. I have the same problem - I upgraded to iOS 5 and in the process lost my contacts and ALL my SMS. I know that we can use backups to restore the information. But the problem is that my back ups are May 2011 and the day I did the upgrade, so nothing helpful there. I don't think the system did a backup before the upgrade. I did the upgrade on october 22. And for that date i have two back ups. I restored the phone to the older backup and it restored my contacts but not my SMS. Is there ANY way I can get my SMS back????

Contacts lost all data suddenly.

My Contacts lost all data suddenly today. I upgraded to 10.8.2 this afternoon. Could that have caused it? Can I do to retrieve my data?

I found the hidden data file but get messge "There is no application set to open the document "AddressBook.data." and I have not been able to choose one that works.
My latest attempt was to go to ~library/Application Support/addressbook. Instuctions said to remove "AddressBook.data" and "AddressBook.data.previous" to another spot for safety, then copy "AddressBook.data.previous" back into the file. Nothing happened.
Any other ideas?

They will be in whatever program you have been syncing.
If you failed to sync your contacts regularly ( as the iphone is designed), then they are likely gone. You can try restoring from backup

I know you say you do not have a MobileMe account so I assume you don’t have an iCloud account because MobileMe is no longer in service. If you do have a backup in iTunes on your computer, you could restore your iPhone from that backup and recover any data, including contacts, from that backup. I run the export from a windows server 2003 sp2 x64.
I think that the size of the rows are too long for this table.

i have a strange issue with Discoverer plus (Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.48.18))
when i run a report and try to close it, by doing file--close--exit
i'm getting an error "contact lost with server".
any thoughts on this pecuiliar error.

i'm getting an error "contact lost with server"The problem might exists when your server lost the connection so it would say you to again login.Are you using VPN to connect to your client machine for accessing discoverer plus if so it happens with VPN.
Another thing is in discoverer plus if you leave it inactive for longer time without actually working on it and just opened it and minimized the window,then as it is in inactive state the server contact would be lost.

This might be because that your game update or other software automatic update killed your contacts. You should make a frequency and regular backup for your iPhone so that all the data could be renewed to your backup data. Whenever you lost iPhone data, you have a choice to restore from iTunes. IPhone contacts lost while syncing

I went to sync my contacts with .mac and accidentally clicked the wrong button. I should have clicked on merge but instead clicked something else and now all my contacts are lost. I attempted to search for address.data.previous but this is the first time I synced and there is no previous backup. Help!!!!!

I would think that all users would have a contact list established on their computer in the first place. Like in Windows XP, Microsoft Outlook has all my contacts as well as phone numbers and e-mail addresses. This is where ITunes got the list to place on the Iphone in the first place. It takes little effort to create this data base and so handy to use. Call it insurance if you will.

Need help restoring AddressBook contacts (lost on sync with iphone)

Just got a new iPhone 3GS, and have .mac. I had duplicate contacts in my iphone. To fix the problem, I deleted one of each, then synced my phone. I got the warning that 5% or more contacts would change, and continued (50% should change, based on my assumptions). I lost all my contacts. I tried to restore in iTunes using "Restore from backup" but only some of the contacts came back. Is there any way to recover the rest of the lost data?

Missing contacts:
Here's a test to perform - using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and go to the Contacts page. If they are gone, then they are gone (must have been a setting during the update to iOS6).
If they show up, then the problem is that your device is not connecting to the Contacts database on icloud.
On the device, go to Settings>icloud. Be sure icloud is on and using the right ID. If not, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Delete Account - this just disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost. Then log back in using the correct ID. ALSO - be sure the Contacts are turned on (on the same screen).
Note: Contacts are not part of an iCloud backup, since they are part of contacts database on iCloud's servers. So performing a restore will not help.

Then they have been deleted. There are many reasons for this. One possibility is that someone else is using the same iCloud account (family member, etc.) and they deleted contacts, thinking they did want them on THEIR device. How to get them back? Unfortunately, an iCloud backup does not include any of the sync databases, like contacts, notes, calendars, reminders, etc. because the data is already stored in these databases. Your only hope for restoring the data is if you had that data on a computer (like a mac's Contacts, Calendars, etc.) and that data was backed up using whatever backup software you typically use (e.g. Time Machine on a mac). Just restore the data files back to the computer. Other than that, I'm afraid the data is gone.

Unable to Access Settings Screen - Contacts Lost

I have an iPhone 5c 16GB. I updated to iOS 8.0.1 last week and there didn't seem to be any issues. My iPhone is backed up via iCloud on a daily basis through wifi in my apartment. This morning I woke up and saw that my contacts on my iPhone were all gone. I went into the settings screen because I wanted to make sure iCloud had backed them up. When I got into the iCloud screen I saw that contacts, notes, calendar etc. were now off, i.e. iCloud was not backing them up. The settings screen then went blank and I was back at the home screen. I turned off the power and restarted my phone and clicked on settings. The settings screen came on for one second and then defaulted back to the home screen. I could not access any of the settings. I logged into iCloud on my computer and saw that contacts were backed up from my address book but some of my notes were gone. The calendar was fine, though. There were none of my apps in my iCloud account.
I couldn't get a Genius Bar appt anywhere today so I went into the AT&T store. They played around with the phone but had no idea what happened. They suggested I take it to the Apple store. I was going to upgrade to the iPhone 6 next month anyways so I figured I would do that today. AT&T didn't have any iPhone 6 16GB in stock so I was told to come back during the week. They suggested I plug in my current iPhone into iTunes and sync it to see if I could get back the contacts. When I did that I was instructed to download iOS 8.0.2. I downloaded and installed it. I still had the same problem, though...the settings screen would not remain open. I created a vcard and PDF backup of my contacts (via web-version of iCloud) but some important notes from notepad were no longer there. They're not in iCloud and not on my iPad. I'm thinking that my iPhone is still backing up via iCloud but since contacts, notes, calendar, etc. were unchecked (how they got unchecked I have no idea), the backups are basically of nothing. When I get the iPhone 6 and want to set it up using my iCloud account I'm wondering if any of my contacts, apps, calendar, notes, etc. will be restored. Have I lost this information forever?

It sounds like something is corrupted.
Just as a test, there's a way to open the settings wizard from the command line. For instance, this command would open XP Mode's settings from the default location:
vpcsettings.exe “C:\Users\[USERID]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vmc"
(replacing USERID with the correct user ID)
If that works, there is a way to reset the mappings.

Address book contacts lost & will not re-sync after recent update

I updated my iphone to the latest software version , in doing so i lost all my contacts on the phone ( I use Entourage) & now when I sync the contacts are not sync'ing to the iphone. I have followed the instructed measures of checking the appropriate boxes in sync/re-sync preferences but no results. I have restored phone in i-tunes, even in the advanced setting tried to "replace information on phone" by checking contacts, with no results.

Just discovered something - I think.
It appears as though the most recent contact entered always gets dropped off and missed at synch time.
Is this a know issue?

Spinning Wheel, force quit, then all contacts lost (twice)

Twice today I've lost all my contacts from Address book. First, the spinning wheel comes. Then, after an hour, I force quit either address book, or Mail and upon reopen, all is lost.
What's the issue? How can I stop this from happening again?

Or does she have a MobileMe account and is syncing contacts over the air?
Contacts on the iPhone are included with the iPhone's backup, which is updated as the first step during the sync process. You can also deselect sync contacts under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences - if she is syncing contacts direct with a supported application on the computer via the iTunes sync process, and doing so will not remove or delete contacts from the iPhone when syncing.
If powering the iPhone off and on and/or an iPhone reset does not resolve it (I'm not sure what a hard reboot is), the options are as follows:
You can replace contacts on the iPhone with the supported application on the computer used for syncing contacts, which is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences below the Advanced section.
Restore the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup.
Sync contacts with the supported application on the computer.
