Content Aware

I want to change a Landscape into a Panoramic which is easy enough in Photoshop CC but I can.t get the Content Aware function to rescale the image.
I am working from a copy background layer and Select > All.   I am on Windows 8 using Photoshop CC

You should have no problem doing what you want to do. Remember Content Aware Scale is distorting your image into a different aspect ratio where the aware part come is is object the can be automatically identified and those selected by the user are protected and will not distorted.  If nothing can be identified  everthing will distort. Also if the aspect ratio change is large the distortion done may not be acceptable to you.  You want to make a landscape a pano. To do that you have two choice change the aspect ratio by making the existing height smaller or by adding canvas to to the sides.  Here I captured a Photoshop screen where I duped the background layer added canvas then used content aware scale in the duped layer.

  • Is there a way to do a content-aware rotation?

I have some objects in the edge of a wide-angle shot and there is the expected distortion. The b/g is pretty simple and instead of losing the space from fixing distortion, a content-aware rotation would be ideal. Is there a mechanism for this? There is move and scale, but not rotation, it seems.

I put up a link yesterday that will give you a workaround.  Check out page 4 from this link.
    http://www.pixelgenius.com/tips/evening-healing.pdf
I have tried it in CS6, and unless I have miissed something, you'll need a workaround for the workaround
So select the Patch tool, and set it to Normal (not Content Aware)  Set it Destination, and make sure Transparent is unchecked.
Select your source pixels, and copy to a new layer, (this step is optional - will discuss later)
Select the BG layer, and with your selection still active (if it turned off when you copied to new layer, Ctrl/Cmd the new layer to reload the selection)
Ctrl/Cmd T to bring up Free Transform
Move to the new location, and rotate; change size, whatever, and hit Enter.
Nudge the selection a tiny bit which will activate the Patch and blend in new location.
This has made a copy or the source pixels, so if you want rid, turn off the new layer, select and expand the white hole it leaves, and use CA Fill to fix.

  • Photoshop CS5 content-aware scale

Hi, I'm a photoshop CS5.1 64 bits user, I'm following the "Learn adobe photoshop CS5 by video" with the instructor  Kelly McCathran. Well, I need to know how to create two layers with different sizes to apply content-aware scale...I can't! I import a picture (4000x3000) from adobe bridge...When I create a layer with a different dimension (3000x2000) the picture (4000x3000) turns to (3000x2000)!!! What am I supposed to do?

With the smaller image appearing with the larger one in Photoshop, click on the smaller image in its Layers panel and drag it over the larger image.
Once the smaller image is sitting on top of the larger one in the Layers panel, you can change the size of the smaller image by using Edit > Transform > Scale.
Hold down the Shift key as you alter the scale, the image maintains proportion.

  • "Upright" Content Awareness in Camera Raw 8 / Photoshop CC

One of the new features in Camera Raw 8, which will ship with Photoshop CC, is the ability for the software to "see" converging lines in your image and try to straighten things up for you, compensating for perspective issues / wide angle lenses, etc.
It offers various choices, including an "Automatic" mode that almost always makes distorted things look better without taking the corrections to extremes.  It actually works pretty well.  Some screen grabs to illustrate...
A photo taken with an extreme wide angle lens in a hotel.
Off: As shot, with no correction
Auto:  Balanced perspective correction to make things look better without going to extremes.
Vertical:  Make all converging lines absolutely vertical, even to the point where the image does not fit within the frame.  Note that the Transform controls can be used to make it fit at the loss of more of the image.  Also note that if it doesn't fit, the image is opened as a layer with transparency in the place where we see the checkered background in the preview, so conceivably you could use Content Aware Fill or cloning to fill it in.
    Some additional examples...
    As shot:
    Auto:
    Horizontal only:
    Vertical Only:
Vertical with some added distortion to fit the frame:
    Full Horizontal and Vertical:
Horizontal and Vertical, plus negative scaling so you can easily see how the image has been distorted:
I toyed with the idea of making the [A] (Auto) my Camera Raw default, and that has merit as it really does improve most photos.  It will, for example, level most horizons (especially water).  But in the end I chose to leave it off and just know it's there so that if I have a troublesome image I can get a quick correction by clicking one of the buttons.
I'd say this feature is pretty slick.

  • Where is Content-Aware Age Tool in Photoshop CS6?

Was it suppose to be in the final release of Photoshop CS6?
If you go to this link http://www.practicalphotoshopmag.com/2012/04/01/photoshop-cs6-to-feature-content-aware-age -tool/
It states it was on beta version of Photoshop CS6 but no one have a video of it.  Or maybe it was for future release like CS6.1 or CS7.  I hope Adobe can add this useful feature on final version of CS6.

Yeah, and what about the "Clooning" and "Helen" tools mentioned in the same article?!?!?!
No "Clooning" and "Helen" tools, no upgrade for me matey!!!

Using the content aware move tool, I want to move an item from one image to another image but it does not seem to work. I think I need two layers on one document so how do I do this

    Good day!
A simple Paste does not work for you?
It should place the clipboard content as a new Layer which you can then move around.
If there is any chance that the elements need to be scaled, rotated etc. I would prefer to place them as Smart Objects (File > Place …) and do the masking that is specific to the images themselves in those.

  • How to create a 'Previous History' brush tool along with content aware

Truly did not know how to create a good title here.
When you use the 'Content Aware' tool and move subject 'A' to point B what happens is that A now sits on top of B which in turn means part of the image within B may be missing and you may still want it there where it was and where it should be. You could use the 'history brush' tool to brush away part of the new insert and erase what is there to reveveal what was there. How do you do the same thing to image A which now sits on B (to reveal what was there on A originally). What I mean is this. I moved a person from point A to point B. but parts of this person are missing (his ear, his knee, his shoe) so how do I get those parts back (in the new location)?
The history brush tool appears to be erasing by subtracting, what I would like to do in this case of course is not subtract but add or 're-add'.
    Thank you

    Hello,
here's a possible solution, before using content aware, take a snapshot of A and B, then use it as your history brush source whenever you need to 're-add':
please post back if you have any questions

  • Spot healing brush with content aware or proximity match?

I want to do the following:
    1. get rid of wrinkles, blemishes and dark circles under the eyes
What is the difference between using the content aware option and the proximity match option with the spot healing brush? Aren't they both blending surrounding pixels to get rid of the blemishes, wrinkles and dark circles?
    Thanks.

Proximity Match is how the Healing Brush works, it takes the surrounding pixels and blends them together with the underlying stuff. Content Aware on the other hand tries to recreate the texture based on the surrounding pixels so it doesn't blend with the pixels that you just painted over. Try both, see which one produces better results for you.

  • Problem with content aware, keep getting "network error" message

My photos open in mix but when I try to use the content aware filter, I keep getting the "network error" message

Can you please try this: logout and log back in? Please let us know if the operation is returning back to normal. We will fix a bug in this area in a upcoming release.

  • Can't get Content Aware Extend to work

Read all the tutorials but when I make a selection and select content aware extend it just moves the selection without extending it.  Need to find some way get it to actually extend?
After making a selection, the "move" and "extend" options appear to do exactly the same thing.

OK, I got it working now but it does not work very well, or as expected.
This is more of a move and replace tool rather than an extend.  It is labeled wrong.   While the move tool fills in the space left behind, this sort of leaves the selection there and duplicates the selection to move.  Not very useful.  Can be better done better with the clone tool.
This tool also errors out quite quickly as you mentioned by moving the selection too far yet does not tell you.   The problem is there is no feedback from the SW that it has errored out and can't do anything.
What would be helpful would be to create a REAL extend tool that duplicated repeating pixels between the selection and the current position.

  • Red Eye and Healing with Content Aware

I was fortunate in being able to see the African Children's Choir in 2009 and today thought I would put some of the images through PSE 10. Issue 1 of 2:  I'm not having any luck getting rid of red eye. I zoom in so that I'm hitting it dead on but instead of getting a correction, a black blob appears on their heads! My guess is that their wide orange head bands are causing confusion but why is it happening so far away from where I'm clicking? Issue 2 of 2 is a problem using the healing brush. I have Content Aware selected and have tried eliminating a couple of mic stands. No matter what size I make the brush, the program doesn't read anything correctly. I've had issues with using it on other photo's as well. Sometimes there is something I can't get it to remove not matter how many times I go over the spot. Power lines are a real annoyance when it gets everything but one bit. In desperation (and when it is possible) I have used copy and paste to get rid of things like that but using it has its own set of problems. Help!

Here's a photo for practicing that I found on the Web:
If you hit the "Auto" button on the Options bar for the RedEye Removal tool, does it work?
My settings for the RER tool are
    Pupil Size:  50%
    Darken Amount:  50%
Can you manually remove the red eye in this photo?
If not, click on the down arrow at the far left of the Options bar and select "Reset Tool", then try again.
If everything works OK on this image, then we'd have to see your problem picture to test.

Yes, sometimes the Spot Healing Brush doesn't completely remove all the bits.  Sometimes repeating 4 times does it, sometimes going across the area at a right angle to the original path of the Spot Healing Brush does it.  If not, there's nothing to do but use the Clone Tool to clean things up.  One thing about the Spot Healing Brush is that the larger the size of the brush used, the wider the area it "pulls in" to do the healing.  Try setting the brush size very small.  Here's an example of what I mean:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3849808#3849808
The Spot Healing Brush can be difficult to use with power lines, especially lines that are close together.  Again, try setting the brush size very, very small, and going across the former path of the line (at a right angle) to clean up the leftovers.  There's also a free filter, Wire Worm, which can help:

  • Using content aware fill in photomerge

I have three images (TIFF files total size about 240MB) that I want to create a panoramic from. I use photomerge in CS5. All works well (in 64 bit) but when I choose the content aware fill option an error message comes up (see image). I have 4GB Ram memory on my 3.06 Ghz Intel Core Duo Processor. The message that it could not complete the fill because there is not enough memory should not happen. My system fits all the requirements to run CS5. Is this a bug in the adobe software? Is there someone with expertise on this that can advise me?
    Much appreciated
    LS

    Chris:
Perhaps you can help me with a somewhat related problem.  I can't get the following Commands to operate in 64 bit, i.e., Photomerge, Merge to HDR and Load into Photoshop Layers.  They work fine in 32 bit despite the fact that you're limited to only a moderate amount of RAM in 32 bit (1470).  When I'm in 64 bit mode, the amount of RAM I've allocated is 5348.  I'm working on a Quad Core Mac Pro with a whole 1 TB hard drive dedicated to as a scratch disk.  This doesn't make sense to me that when you're throwing more capacity at the process is when the problem arises.  What I consistently get is a dialog box stating "Photoshop Quite Unexpectedly."

  • Remove a logo from a video clip with content aware fill?

I know you can remove logo in photos using content aware fill, but you can't do it to a video clip. You can only do it to a frame, but you can't apply it to the entire video. I know photoshop is not a video editing software, but having this sort of feature makes sense for photoshop users especially with content aware fill.

I'm a career software architect engineer of 35 years, and I have to side with Howard on this one.
Like Howard, I feel you're thinking about this way too simplistically.  Trying to work out what best to fill a part of an image with in 3 dimensions (x, y, and time) and have it look believable almost boggles the mind, especially thinking of a general case (your logo example is far to simplistic in itself).  The task is far from a simple looping repeat of what is being done 2 dimensionally on a still frame.  Frankly, it's more likely related to what's done with CGI, where scenes are modeled in 3D (4D actually) so certain elements can be replaced believably.
Think about it...  If CAF is presently replacing part of an image with something it finds through some heuristics in another part of the image, and the stuff in that part of each frame is changing - and it would, because this is video, not still imagery - then it will select differently every time.  What makes you think it would select something that even resembles what it selected for another frame?  What you'd end up with is a frame by frame mishmash that would just make the outline of the selection obvious.
Regarding CAF applied to individual frames, then your finding the result isn't coming out as expected in all the frames of the video (e.g., when you're testing this concept) may indicate a problem with the way you're using the tool, or possibly even a bug.  You might want to describe step by step what you're doing and show the result you're [not] getting.

  • Content aware fill - how to sample from small area?

Is there a way how to sample from small area and then apply content aware fill to the much more bigger area? For example - there is an object on a table. The object fills 90% of the image and the table 10% image. Now, I just want to delete the object. But that doesnt work with content aware fill, because the area around it is much smaller. Is there a solution for this?

I am not sure that CAF is the right tool if you want to fill a large area sampling from a small area.  You might get away with doing it in stages
One trick is copy just those areas you want to sample from, to a new layer, and use CAF on that layer, but without seeing your image, it is difficult to say what the best aproach is going to be.

  • How content-aware fill with smart objects

I've done a (hopefully) fairly exhaustive search, and don't see anything on how to use these things together...
Open an image as a smart object.  Add a layer for cloning and healing.  Maybe add a curves adjustment layer and/or a hue/sat adjustment layer.  Adjust things as needed.
Decide you want to extend the background on one side.  Increase the canvas on that side.  Select the chunk of canvas.  What process should be used to employ the content-aware fill for that new piece of canvas?  I don't seem to be able to have the smart object layer selected.  If I have another layer selected the fill fails saying there aren't enough opaque (?) pixels.

Oddly, I can't even find any discussion on this anywhere...  There's got to be a better way than what I've tried so far.
At present the only way I've found is to
    duplicate the smart object
    rasterize it
    select the part to fill
    do the content-aware fill
leave the selection on and copy/paste the selection so it's on a new layer
delete the rasterized copy of the smart object
There's gotta be a better/smarter/faster way than this...  How are other people doing this?

  • Content Aware Problem

I have used content aware with some success but today I was using it to remove power lines in front of a building with a deep blue cloudless sky in the background. When I used content aware it lightened the sky to a pale blue, no where near the original color. I sampled the existing sky with the eye dropper but no change. Please advise why this is happening. I have used content aware probably 25 times and have never encountered this problem. Thank you

Did you miss my prior answer (post #2)?
Try making the brush bigger, or using a selection and making it larger than the power line by a few pixels.
It can work quite well; I've done it myself many times, but you can't work too tightly to the subject, because the pixels near the edge are affected by the subject sometimes more than you realize.
