Content library not showing in iMovie 10.0

Content Library not showing.  No answer found.  It is NOT at the top as some say.  Where did it go and where is it?  What's the best alternative to this stupid iMovie program.  So frustrating.  It was working a month ago.

So what happens if you choose to proceed with opening the library?
Do you have a library backup, for example on Time Machine?
I have automatic dated backups of all my iMovie 10 libraries but I can't remember how I set it up and there is no mention of backups in iMovie help.  (It is doing the same thing as FCP 10.1 does).  I have never tried to restore from them though.
Geoff.

Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
To get all your content off your connect your iPad to your new computer.
Then use a 3rd party piece of software to transfer your content
I have found Senuti useful but there are others listed in the article I linked to in a previous post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
That will let you transfer your non purchased content
For Purchased content log in to iTunes on the new computer
In Itunes Store click on Purchased under the Quick Links section on the right.
Download any music by clicking on the cloud button

    Hi 89r0z62cap,
It sounds as though that PDF was created from a scanned image, and you have the "Show Large Images" option deselected. Try this:
Open the Preferences dialog box (Reader/Acrobat > Preferences on Mac OS; File > Preferences on Windows).
Click Page Display and make sure that Show Large Images is selected under Page Content and Information.
That should do the trick, but let us know if it doesn't.

  • Glossary Tab Content is not Showing in .chm on Windows 2008

We just discovered that our Glossary content is not showing in the our compiled .chm help files on Windows 2008 64 bit.
We made sure that the HHActiveX.dll was on the machine and registered it, but it still does not display the content on Windows 2008 64 bit machines.  We did the same procedure on Windows 2003 and the Glossary content is now displayed. It also seems to work on Windows 2008 32 bit, so I assume that this is a 64 bit issue. Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?
We are currently using RoboHelp 8 (Technical Communication Suite 2) to generate the .chm files.
Any information would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,

Mack. I found another post that suggested there was an issue with the HHACTIVEX.DLL on Win 64 PCs. The only solution offered was to contact Adobe Support

  • I purchased a new computer.  Why when I log in to itunes does my library not show up

I purchased a new computer.  Why when I log in to itunes does my library not show up?

I'm confused....if itunes is basically storing your music for you and you log in, why doesn't that automatically default to your account and display all of you music.  What's really strange is, if I have my old laptop on and I am logged into itunes it showed up on my new laptop.  But when I log out, it's gone

In the Administration ->  Setup -> Business Partners -> Countries
Look for the Code where your business partners country are set.
Then in the Address Format, choose your format. In my case I choose our company format. Hope this help.

  • 3.1 library not compatible with iMovie '09 and iDVD 7.0.4 ???

I took the Aperture upgrade last night to 3.1 and Aperture itself appears to be running ok, although I haven't tested a ton of the functionality yet. What I was working on was wrapping up a wedding I shot and am putting the final touches on the movies and DVD for my clients.
However, since the upgrade neither iMovie '09 nor iDVD 7.0.4 can access my Aperture library. They seem to think they can see it, but all that happens in the wheel sits and spins. I though maybe this was due tot he current size of my Aperture library (170 gig, about 40k images) but after letting iMovie sit and spin for about 6 hours I don't think that is the problem.
Looks like there is a compatibility bug here.
    iDVD screenshot: http://www.vensland.com/wp-content/gallery/blog-photographs/screen-shot-2010-10- 24-at-10-59-11-pm.png
    iMovie screenshot: http://www.vensland.com/wp-content/gallery/blog-photographs/screen-shot-2010-10- 24-at-11-04-52-pm.png

To Tony: This is a known bug in Aperture 3.1 as earlier posts show. I do have the same bug. I went into few steps for solving it, but didn't find a working way. What I did:
I created a new empty library and imported few photos. This library works, iLife shows the library contents in iPhoto, iMovie and so on.
I exported few projects from my main library and created from them a new library. This library is about 30 GB and it works too.
I exported then my whole library to a new library. This tooks me over 6 hours because the library was around 300 GB with 25k photos. This library still does not show in iLife media browser.
I did a repair permissions and check database consistency on this library too. No change.
As the smaller library with only 30 GB in size does function as expected, it seems it has to do with the larger size of the second or main library or there is something wrong in there.

  • *Some* movies in iPhoto not showing in iMovie

Over the last few years I have shot many movies on my Canon S400 and loaded them into iPhoto. All my movies are .avi format. However, iMovie is not recognizing them all so some are not showing up in the Event Library. This problem appeared directly after the last update when it rebuilt the thumbnail library. Does anyone know how to get iMovie to recognize the previously viewable videos?

Thanks, but I need to clarify - this is not a matter of iMovie 08 not recognizing compressed formats. All the movies are from the same camera, as raw .avi's, and non-compressed or edited in any way.
Please clarify further. Am interested in how you define what "raw AVI" is. Have never heard of any form of digitized audio or digitized video that was not coded (i.e., compressed) in one form or another. Please explain how that works. Better yet, please post a screen capture of of the QT Player "Inspector" window showing the format of this "raw AVI."
iMovie is for some reason erroneously not seeing some of them.
As stated above, iMovie '08 can't "see" anything it can't edit.
I was able to export one of the "unseen" videos to my desktop and import it into iMovie 08 from there
I hate to break the news to you, but exporting, by definition, implies a re-compression of the file. And, unless you exported to the very same compression format with the very same settings, you have "converted" the file. In fact, even then, the possibility exists that the file may have been 'flattened" with the end result that an incompatible track may have been discarded or merged into the core audio/video tracks and thus made the file compatible.
but that's a lot of needless hassle.
Better get used to it. Until you can show that both the audio and video tracks are compatible and that there is no other content (such as a "Tween" track) included in the file, there exists at least a presumption that your AVI files as uploaded from your digital camera may not be "edit" compatible with iMovie '08. You can, of course check on this yourself by comparing the the "Inspector" information of you non-importing files with that of your imported file.
All the videos are in the same .avi format.
Are you sure. Some digital cameras have multiple video clip modes which may either changed settings within the same compression formats or actually change the compression formats.
All of them were recognized and worked just fine before the last update. Now, some get recognized by iMovie 08, some others don't.
Apple may have changed "error trapping" routines for the update you referenced. It may be checking intersects of audio data rates against audio sampling rate "standards" now. If you check export combinations you will find that only certain combinations are allowed in QT. Once again, you could help yourself tremendously by simply comparing the statistics of files that work with those of ones that don't work.
This is NOT as issue due to compression formats.
You keep saying this but offer nothing in the way of evidence to support your assertions.

  • Viewing Tools Not Showing in iMovie 11

I've been using iMovie 8 for Mac for several years and just upgraded to iMovie 11 today but for some reason I can't get the display to work right so I can't find the tools I'm used to using!  This won't let me upload a snapshot, so here's a link to a video that is showing what I'm missing:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHF6OcdnZJo
The part right under the browser at the top and the play movie is missing on my version - that little strip with the video camera, then the "swap arrows" then right in the middle where it has a cursor and other tools...  How do I get that to display in iMovie 11?  It obviously is still there because this tutorial is iMovie 11!  I just can't find it!
Thanks so much for any help...
    Jacki

    Hi Jacki,
When you open your iMovie application and click on iMovie > About iMovie on the menu bar -- what version do you see?  I'm assuming you are actually using iMovie 2013 (version 10.0.6) and that is why you are seeing a different layout.
If that is the case, then the article below will help you understand the layout of the version of iMovie you are working with.   If I am misunderstanding your situation, please reply back with additional information.

iMovie (2013): Tips For iMovie ’11 Users
iMovie (2013) introduced an all-new, streamlined design. If you used a previous version of iMovie, you’ll find that some features work differently or have moved to a different part of the app. Learn about these changes with the topics below.
Add titles, transitions, music, and maps
You can find titles, transitions, music, and maps in the Content Library. The Content Library is at the bottom of the sidebar once you open a movie project.
If the sidebar is not already open, click Show in the toolbar.
At the bottom of the sidebar, select an item from the Content Library.
In the Browser, your selection appears (titles, transitions, and so on). Drag one to the timeline to add it to your movie.
If you add a title, map, or globe, you can adjust settings in the Adjustments Bar which is located above the Viewer.

If you add a transition, double-click it in the timeline to adjust its duration.
To return to your video clips in the Browser, select an event in the sidebar.
Create Cutaway, Picture in Picture, Side by Side, and Green/Blue Screen effects
iMovie ’11 included an Advanced Tools preference which allowed you to add a video clip to your movie as a Cutaway, Picture in Picture, Side by Side, or Green/Blue Screen. To do this in iMovie (2013):
Add a video clip to the timeline.
Drag a second video clip above the first clip to add it as a Cutaway.
Note:You can drag a video clip below another to add just its audio.
Video Overlay controls will appear In the Adjustments Bar. From the drop-down menu, you can select a different overlay type.

Make range selections in the timeline
With range selections, you can select just a portion of a clip in the timeline.
In the timeline, click and hold on a clip. After a brief pause the cursor will change.
Drag left or right to make a selection.
Make audio waveform adjustments in the timeline
Audio waveforms show the volume of each of your clips and are color-coded to show you which parts are too loud.
Select Show Waveforms from the Timeline Appearance menu.
To adjust the volume of an entire clip, drag the volume bar up or down.
To adjust the volume of just a portion of a clip:
In the timeline, click and hold on a clip. After a brief pause the cursor will change.
Drag to select the portion of the clip you want to adjust.
Drag the volume bar up or down to adjust the volume.
After making the adjustment, indicators of the volume change appear on the clip. You can drag these indicators in any direction to further customize the clip’s volume.
Record Video with the FaceTime Camera
With iMovie you can record video with the FaceTime Camera built into your Mac and add it to you project.
In the sidebar, select the event where you’d like to save the recorded video.
Click the Import button in the toolbar.
In the Import window that appears, select FaceTime HD Camera in the sidebar.
Note: Depending on which Mac you have, the camera may be called FaceTime Camera or Built-in iSight.
Click the Red record button at the bottom of the window to start and stop recording. The video will be added to the event you selected in step 1.
Click the Close button. You can now add the recorded video clip to your project as you would any other clip.
    Record Narration
With iMovie you can record narration using the microphone built into your Mac.
Open a Movie project. To record narration, there must be at least one clip already in the timeline.
Select Window > Record Voiceover. Voiceover controls will appear at the bottom of the area where you view your video.
Note: You can also press the V key on the keyboard to display these controls.
In the timeline, click where you’d like your recording to begin.
Click the microphone button to start and stop recording. The recording will be added to the timeline and also to your event if you’d like to reuse it later.
    Swap Project and Event areas
In iMovie ’11 a toolbar button allowed you to to swap the Project and Event areas. to do this in iMovie (2013):
Open a project and choose Window > Swap Project and Event.
    Finalize Projects
iMovie ’11 included a Finalize feature which created a “master” copy of your project. With iMovie (2013), sharing a project to iMovie Theater serves a similar purpose. You can also share your project to iTunes or as a File to archive a master copy.Sorting Events in the Sidebar
In iMovie, events are organized by date in the sidebar with the newest events on top. To adjust how events are organized in the sidebar:
Select an event in the sidebar.
Choose View > Sort Events By.
In the menu that appears, select a new setting.
    Work with External Hard Drives
Your projects and events are stored inside of an iMovie library. You can store this file on your Mac or an external hard drive. You can even have multiple library files open at once.
To create a new iMovie library:
Choose File > Open Library > New.
In the window that appears, enter a name for your library and select where you would like to save it, such as an external hard drive.
    Click Save.
In the sidebar, the new library will appear. You can now import media into this library, or copy existing projects and events to it.
To copy an event to a different library:
    Select the event.
Drag it to another library in the sidebar. A progress indicator will appear in the toolbar.
To copy a project to a different library:
    Select the project.
Drag the project to an event in a different library in the sidebar. A progress indicator will appear in the toolbar. iMovie will copy the project and all of its media (video clips, photos, and audio files) to the new library.

  • Videos not showing in iMovie for iPad

    Hey all
I just downloaded a bunch of videos from my camcorder to my PC... Then proceeded to put those vids on my new iPad.  I'm trying to edit tthe videos in iMovie but they are not showing up.  I already did the locations services so that is not it.  Does anybody know what needs to be done?

    Hi
iMovie needs iPhoto and other components in iLife bundle to address their respective libraries. if they point to a newer one - iMovie will not find the old material.
    So close all
Open iPhoto and select the right library - open
Now open iMovie and let it up-date thumbnails photos
Does it work better now ?

  • Streaming issues: iTunes content suddenly not showing up???

AppleTV is showing up in the devices list in iTunes, but it suddenly won't display any of my non-synced content.
Everything was working perfectly and without any changes being made to anything, the next time i fired up the AppleTV later the same day - no content was being displayed.
I restarted the AppleTV, restarted my router (though clearly it's on the network since it's showing up in iTunes), restarted my computer, reopened iTunes, unlinked and relinked to iTunes all to no avail.
Just to see if iTunes and the AppleTV could "talk" to one another, I tried syncing some new content to it that I was previously only streaming, and the sync worked fine - so I can't figure out what the problem is. It's clearly on the network and iTunes can clearly still communicate with the device because a sync worked fine.
Any insight??? All of the answers I've found deal with the AppleTV not showing up in iTunes but, again, that isn't the problem here.

I am having a similar issue, but am getting this all the time: we stream iTunes content and it starts off okay, but in middle of movie or podcast it loses its connection. We have tried most things, checked what was advised above, tried it with ethernet cable and wireless, even had a new Apple TV few weeks ago, but it's still the same problem. We then have to disconnect iTunes again on AppleTV, remove AppleTV from itunes, then add shared iTunes library with the steaming code again and it works for about 15 minutes.
Can't think of anything else anymore!
    Anyone has any other suggestions?

of course it disappears when you close your laptop. itunes has to be running for appletv to connect to itunes!
the appletv has no user storage, it is streaming only.
