Content preview question

Hi,
We are using Content Management in Portal 9.2.1. We have written our code for content creation, workflow approval, deletion of content using CMS API and controls.
Our process is
1. Content creator logs in and creates content (workflow status = Ready)
2. Content approver logs in and previews the content and publishes (workflow status from Ready to Published)
3. Content selectors displays the published content
We have problem at step 2, when the approver logs in and tries to preview the content, we got the following error message.

Can we use the cm:getNode to preview the content or do we have to write CMS API code to get content?. Both are same?.
Can we preview a un published draft status content?. We assumed it will be possible as from administration console, we can able to do this.

I hope this discussion can be revived. I have the same problem. There seem to be quite a few Japanese sites that don't bother specifying their encoding. Perhaps they are older and from a time when it was not necessary to adhere to standards. Overprint Preview question and another issue...

CS4, Win XP.
Overprint Preview question:
The other day i sent a file for printing (poster) in PDF and CS2 formats. For some reason, the printer converted the file to a .tif and then printed. Parts dropped out... Both the PDF and CS2 files looked fine.Description follows:
1/ Background black
2/ Design element over the black (blue lines to form a wave).
3/ Logo in red and white. Plus a line of text in red. And other text in white.
The white of the logo vanished. The red line of text kind of vanished... printed very faintly and only (i think in parts). Printer tried to do a patch job of printing the line separately and pasting... anyway... to cut a long story short, he wanted the final output in .tif. OK...
So, i converted to tif and sure enough... those parts vanished... did a search here and found the solution - view file in Overprint Preview and then in Attributes, turn off the Overprint Fill... so all well...
So, the question is, why does this happen? And, how, do i know in advance that x or y is likely to cause a problem? I have noticed in Bridge that sometimes, parts of a logo or a line of text does not show... but looks fine in AI or Acrobat... now realise the cause, but not the reason.
The other issue...
Same black background(s)... placed Photoshop file/s with a transparent background... Prints fine at the printers (various machines and media) ... But on the laserprinter an HP Color Laser Jet CP1510 series, there's a dark patch around the image (the actual file area).
Again, any ideas?

Many thanks for your earlier inputs, but not quite sure where you got the idea that i want someone or anyone to play detective... i've understood the Overprint problem... and moved on. If anything, maybe i was just musing and wondering if any particular action turns on "Overprint Fill"...

To elaborate, the pix above are product shots which have been cut out and placed on a transparent background... The PS file is then placed in AI CS4 with the object option selected to maintain transparency. The transparent area is printing darker on the printer above. But is fine when sent to commerciqal printers...

Overprint Preview question

I am trying to print a film positive for a spot UV job that is supposed to have some text reversed out of it. Output Preview does not show the text. My RIP does not see it either. I can only see the knocked-out text when I turn off overprint preview in Acrobat preferences. I guess my question is what did the artist do wrong when he made the PDF? Also, is there a preflight profile I should use on all the files I receive, to prevent this confusion from happening again?
I am using Acrobat 9.5.1 on Windows 7

Do you know what software the artwork was created in?
If I didn't see reversed text, I would first check that the reverse field object was not set to overprint -- which would eliminate reversed-out type. Some other issues can interfere with reversed type -- using an unavailable font for example, or the text not being set to white, and several more exotic settings and techniques. Some DP software has trouble knocking out type if it's not the frontmost object on the page.
BTW, the title says "Overprint Preview question" but I think you're just asking about "output" preview, though it did make me think of the overprint setting issue.
As to preflight profile, you have to make sure everything is set right for your particular output device/print conditions. You might want to run a profile that checks for missing fonts, low-resolution images, non-CMYK inks -- anything that would give problems in film/plate output or on the press.
Also, when I have text problems, I try printing to other devices -- laser printer, inkjet, whatever -- to see if the problem is device-specific.

Region content preview ?

Yes, i'm busy for a new poster, but i just wanted to ask if this was possible.
Ive been using Logic for many years but never been able to find out how to change the region contents preview from notation to piano roll, so that my midi regions show a piano roll style preview instead of the regular musical notation, when in the arrange window.
Ive been told on here that this is possible, but i'm pretty sure it's not.
Please help.

I see... Well, there is no option that controls the behavior of what's displayed. The behavior is to show notes when the zoom level is sufficient to display that. If you're zoomed out far enough you see nothing.
Would be a nice option to have tho.

Content Preview - portal

I am developing corporate site using weblogic portal 10.2 and MySql5.0
This site requires most of the content management opreations.
Custom Workflow is associated with content.
Assume a content is created by the creator , it should be aproved by manager.
How a manager can preview the content/page, before aproval.
Means , how "Content Preview" can be achieved using admin portal.

Not knowing the extent in what the new workflow does, the quick and dirty way would be to add an attribute to your content that was called approved(or a status)... and change all your prod content selectors, code , etc to make sure that flag is set to approved=yes before it shows it on the production site... On the flip side you would have to create code that would show the content in process(approved=no)... There might be a better/easier way with the new workflow that WLP offers but again this would be a quick and dirty way if not...

Problem Adobe ID in Digital Content Preview Tool for *.issue from InDesign

Hi,
I hope it is the right place for this post.
So, I create a *.issue file with InDesign and the new Digital Publishing.
Then I installed the Digital Content Preview Tool on the iPad and I have tryed login with Adobe ID to test the *.issue file.
But login inside the iPad app has been failing by all the day...
(ps: login from web browser goes well).
Someone can help me?

IPad Preview question

Hi, apologies if this has been asked before but is it possible to give the user a preview of the magazine you expect them to purchase on Apples Newsstand? Right now it appears to be limited to the front cover. It would be good to allow the user 'flick' through the magazine in thumbnail style to give them an impression of whats inside (just like on Newsstand in a shop). It looks like other publishing software offer this feature.
And part B of that question is, if I have a free (for the user) sample issue amongst my paid issues, I assume I have to pay the folio download cost for each free sample downloaded?

For Part A of your question, no, it's not currently possible to offer a preview of a pay folio (either via thumbnails of the content or partial reading of some part of the content).
For Part B of your question, yes, the free folios count against the download cost. You can read more about that in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4064294#4064294. Bob provided a good set of answers around how free folios work, in particular in relation to multi-issue publications and the iTunes store.

Fields in PDF form are blank: Another Preview question...

So I get that filling out a form in Preview can create a problem where the end user cannot see the info in those fields unless they click on them. But I have some additional questions:
1. Is just viewing a PDF in Preview without making any changes enough to cause this problem?
2. Is it only Windows users reporting this problem or are Mac users having it as well (when trying to view it in Acrobat or Reader)?
Here's why I ask: We created this form but send it out to clients to fill in and return. I sometimes view these returned forms in Preview because the info loads faster than it does in Acrobat. No issues there. But with one form in particular that we received today, anyone trying to subsequently open the form in Acrobat is having a problem. It seems to be just this form that is causing the problem. I'm not sure what the client used to fill it out, but they sent back other forms that don't seem to be a problem, so it seems unlikely this one would have been filled out using a different tool from the others.
Also it appears that Mac users AND Windows users are having issues seeing the fields in this form properly filled out. Heretofore, I've only read of Windows users having this problem.
Any insight would be appreciated -- thanks!

A form has to be saved in Preview in order for it to be corrupted, not merely opened. What OS is used when opening a corrupted PDF in Reader/Acrobat doesn't matter.

BI Content Upgrade Question

I am sure that I will get answer to my question.
We are currently on Add on Package BI Content 3.5.2 on SAP Netweaver04.
As per SAP Recommendation if we are going for BW 3.5 SP19
then we should have BI Content 3.5.3.
We need to know that when we upgrade BI Content 3.5.3 from BI Content 3.5.2 ->>>>> <b>will it overwrite</b> all existing BW objects including standard SAP delivered objects(Infoobjects,Infosurces,ODS, Infocubes etc). These existing SAP delivered BW objects are enhanced or modified by us in our BW system.
As per my understanding UNLESS I install new business content using RSA1-> Business Content the existing old content BW objects should not be overwritten by new content version.
Please help with your inputs.

According to the course material provided by SAP, you have to compare the Business Content objects with the existing objects in the A version.
1. You can change objects that were transferred from the Business Content, since only the derived A version and not the Business Content version of the objects will be changed.
2. Not all objects can be compared
3. If you do not compare the objects, the new version is transferred (copied) and the (old) A version overwritten when you activate the Business Content.

Table of Contents Issue/Question

Hi everyone, I hope I can put my question accurately into words.
I'm working on a 450 page product catalog in Indesign CS5 for the mac. The catalog has 7 main sections, in which there are numerous smaller sections. I need to create a table of contents for these smaller sections, however, my issue is this; my table of contents is based on the product names which I've applied a paragraph style to, but, also included on the same line that the product name is, are several small icons. I used the library function to put these icons into place. I put my curser where I wanted the icons to be, went to the library, right clicked on the icon I wanted, and selected place item. I found this to be the easiest way since there were approximately 1500 products in the catalog. So, my issue is, now that I'm creating a mini-table of contents for these numerous sections, the icons are included in my table of contents, which I don't want. I can manually go in and delete each icon, but I'm thinking there has to be a faster way. I thought of possibly a grep style but can't figure out how to make that work.
Any help would be appreciated! It's going to take a while to delete each one of those. I hope I've described this accurately; please feel free to ask any questions if it's not clear.

Table of Contents navigation question in Captivate 5.5

Hi - I'm a fairly new user of Captivate (5.5.), and hope that someone can answer this question. I'm trying to set up a table of contents with navigation that will not let users go to slides that they have not yet viewed, but still enable users who have left and re-entered a course go back to any previous slide that they've viewed. Here are some details:
* I'm publishing the course using the SCORM 2004 setting, and testing it in SCORM Cloud and our LMS (Cornerstone)
* The table of contents navigation is set only to "Navigate visited slides only."
* After reading as many of the related posts as I could find on this forum, I've been able to get bookmarking to work - that is, the course will take the user back to where he or she left off. And by using the InfoSemantics TicTOC widget, when a user returns to the course, all previously viewed slides are checked off in the table of contents.
* However, whatever I've tried, a user who leaves and goes back into a course can only navigate back to the first slide, not to any of the other slides he or she already viewed. I'd like for our users to be able to go back to any previous slide they viewed (for example, to review the section just before the one where they left off, or to review any part of the course for reference after completing it).
Is there a combination of settings, or a widget somewhere, that will let you both limit forward navigation to visited slides only, while still allowing users to go back to any previously viewed slide after exiting and re-entering a course? And this would need to work in an LMS.

I did have the self-paced learning option checked, so I unchecked it. I did not have "user must past quiz" as required (it's set as optional). I tried adding an interactive button to the first slide and giving it a score. But after re-publishing, I still can only go back to the first slide (not any previously viewed slide) if I stop and re-enter the course. Here are the settings:

Another RAM preview question. CS6

Hello everyone! I am currently working in After Effects on a video that uses an evaporation effect. When I use the RAM preview function only about 200-250 frames load out of 1200. At this point After Effects stops loading a RAM preview and just plays the few seconds of video it has loaded. I am trying to watch the entire 12 seconds of the evaporation effect.
I then tried to use footage that has no effects added to it, and the same thing is happening. I recently cleaned my disk cache, and this problem started happening. I feel like that is a coincedence though.
This problem was not happening a few weeks ago and after searching the forums I have not been able to find a solution that worked. Thank you for any helpful responses you can give.
Computer Specs: Macbook Pro. OSX 10.75. 2.2 GHz processor, 4gb Memory, 158 gb free storage
Video specs: 60 FPS, 1280 x 720 , H.264

Content Previews

Hey,
I like that I can change the views to thumbnails and enlarge and shrink at will... And even put it into a list mode... But I am not liking the fact that it seems to affect every folder universally. Is there a way to make specific folders stay locked in one mode and others in a certain preview mode- much like the general windows OS? Some folders are simply folders in folders that link to folders with images. I would like the folders with folders to stay in list mode while the folders with images remain at whatever preview size I feel fits at the time.
Is this possible? ... Or can it be in the future? Just another button that locks the preview mode in that specific folder would work nicely.

Preview Question

I have a new Macbook and i have a question about Preview. I have multiple page scanned documents saved as .tif files. When I pull them up in Preview I can only see the first page and I'm not given the opportunity to page down to the next pages.
Does anyone know how to get to the additional pages.

Sooo... are all these multiple pages individual files on your computer? Or did you somehow scan the pages onto one file with the extension being a .tiff file? I'm going to assume the former, because I don't know how one would do the latter. I think .tiff files are just like .jpegs in a way, but you're not going to get many images on one file unless you do something like scan all the pages you want then physically add them one by one using a different program (not preview) to a new .tiff document and then save it that way.
So what I'm assuming is that you scanned some documents on your computer, page by page, and now you're wanting to open them in Preview. Well, if you scanned them one by one, and saved them one by one, then you're only going to open "one" at a time. Preview CAN open many documents at one time and you will see them in the "drawer" on the side as you look at them all. But in order to open them all at once, you need to highlight all the files at one time and double click one of them, or choose Open from the "File" menu. This will open all the documents at one time so you can see them altogether. BUT...
If all the files are individually saved, meaning each page of the document is a separate file on your computer, and you want them to be one single file, you can open them all one by one, and save them as .pdf. Then using a program like "Combine PDF's" which can be found here:

you can create one .pdf file of all the pages of the document, just like the paper original, so that when you open the one file, it opens all the pages of the document.
I wasn't really sure what you were asking, so instead of wasting time with asking you questions, I tried to give to preemptive answers in hopes that one them is the answer you're looking for. If not, I'm sorry I wasted your time.
