Content Service 10g and Workflows

Is there something that needs to be done to "enable" the pre-configured workflows in Content Services 10.1.2. I'm having the problem that I can submit workflow requests, but the only option available to the approvers is "Cancel". It also seems that the only way to get that "Cancel" option is to be an administrator and switch to administration mode, which seems to be counter-intuitive if I want users to be able to create and manage their own workflows without system wide administrative privileges.
Do users need to have a particular access level (Reader, Author, Administrator) on a folder or library to be able to approve requests?
Is there some step I've missed in doing the setup for "turning on" workflow? I've looked through the docs, and the only thing I see for separate setup is the notification mailer, which I haven't done.

Was about to submit a TAR and found patch 4910503 referred from Note 344724.1 which sounded very promising, since the note describes exactly what I see. Unfortunately after following the instructions in both documents it still doesn't work (sigh).

  • Content Services 10g Versioning - more questions

    Can anyone clarify the following?
    1) While a link can point to a specific version of a file or the latest version of a file... can it point to the latest RELEASED version of a file as well?
    Example: Latest Version ( work in progress, not approved yet ) needs to be visible to engineers working on the project, Config Management Team, Customers/Suppliers for review, etc. I might create a folder with links back to the latest version of all files related.
    Latest Released Version needs to be visible to Shop Floor Users which refer to the documents on how they should manufacture a part. A Supplier might have a folder to links to the latest RELEASED version of the all files they work with.
    2) Since everything is an Item, can items such as folders themselves be versioned? Or just real files?
    Example: 12 documents comprise a Customer Evaluation packet. These are all in a folder. The Packet has a Revision of "2". Now we change one of the documents in the packet, and add a new document to the packet. The Packet now has a Revision of "3".
    Traditionally I've seen this done by "zipping" the files together into one big file, and checking that in/out. But that's very clumsy because the packet may be 150 MB in size... and if all one wants to do is a file 50K file to the packet, doing that across the Web cross country can be fairly painful. Or are ZIP'd files directly exposable in the interface in a way that versioning can still be accomplished without copying the whole 150MB back and forth, to change one item in the zip file?
    thanks for any insight y'all have on these questions...
    Karl

    Hi Karl,
    1) You cannot do this with Links. You could however do it with a category e.g. 'Technical Spec' that has a status attribute. The default of the attribute would be 'DRAFT', but before checking in the RELEASED version you change the status attribute to 'RELEASED'. Any user can get the list of 'RELEASED' documents that are available to them with a simple search.
    2) Content Services 10g doesn't support versioning of folders.
    hope that helps,

  • Content Service Switch and PeopleSoft

    Can anyone direct me to any white papers discussing in depth setting up sticky rules for 11501?
    I am new to this and need to establish load balancing between PeopleSoft portal servers. While I am getting the basics down, I need to get quickly educated on the process. The basic documentation seems to have left me a little confused. Probably due to my lack of understanding of Web based applications.
    Your assistance is appreciated.

    You probably post your question in a wrong section. You will find a better expertise in load balancing in "Content Networking" under Emerging Technologies.

  • Content Services and OLS

    Is Oracle Content Services 10g integrated with OLS? Will OCS 11g be integrated with OLS? That is, can I label each file or folder with an Oracle Label Security label (column in the table where the document or document metadata is stored) and have OLS protect the document, based on the users OLS accesses. The DB would need to individually identify the user who is accessing the document, either through a DB user account, or through an OID account (OID enabled OLS), or have the ability to set a users OLS session label every time they attempt to access the Content Services application. The end result would be that a user who is cleared at Secret would not see any files or file metadata classified as Top Secret.

    No. Content Services has its own ACL model that is enforced through all the supported access paths: protocols, UIs, APIs etc. Users do not see any files that they do not have access to.

  • Content DB vs. OCS Content Services

    What's the difference between OCS Content Services 10g(10.1.2.0.3) and Content DB 10g Release 2(10.2.0)?
    I want to know new features of Content DB against OCS Content Services 10g.

    Content Services will remain as part of Collaboration Suite, however at this stage there is unlikely to be further development into the Content Services product (at least from the original content dev team). The collaboration suite people are hard at work for the 11g release.
    Content DB was originally a fork in the codelines, and a rebundling under Database Enterprise Edition. It is actively worked upon (by the original content dev team) and is the content component of the new Oracle WebCenter.
    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/2006_oct/openworldsf06-23.html
    Assuming the Stellent acquisition proceeds, Content DB will also serve as a content infrastructure repository for various Stellent ecm solutions.
    http://www.stellent.com/stellent3/groups/mkt/documents/nativepage/oraclefaq.pdf
    So for any customer wanting to get the new/increased Content Management functionality - particuarly for content-centric custom applications, they will need to move to Content DB.

  • Web Service Best and Worst Practices within Oracle SOA Suite

    Hi All,
    Has anybody got a single document that concisely details the best and worst practices around the design of web services for oracle SOA and BPEL.
    I'm interested the following aspects
    1. Level of Granularity
    2. Level of Reuse
    3. BPEL orchestration. numbers of BPEL process vs services
    4. Transport choices...SOAP vs REST vs Big Services etc
    5. Activity Monitoring with BAM
    6. Future proofing of signatures and ongoing maintenance and process change
    I'm constructing a document myself to share on this forum, but i'd be very interested to use the wisdom of others if somebody has done this before...
    Thanks in advance :)

    This is a question best answered by your Oracle reseller or Oracle account manager to give you all the details but I hope this brief answer helps:
    - The Unified Business Process Management Suite (BPM Suite 11g) includes: BPM Studio, BPM Composer, BPMN Service Engine and Workflow Extensions, BPM Process Spaces, and BPM Process Analytics.
    - BPM Suite 11g requires the licensing of SOA Suite 11g for Oracle Middleware which requires a license for WebLogic Suite.
    - You can license SOA Suite 11g now and license BPM Suite 11g later.
    Since the products are layered, I don't see this cutting into SOA sales at all. My personal view is that BPM on top of SOA is brilliant since it provides easy integration between human and automated tasks, builds on many of the SOA concepts that are key for a successful BPM implementation (functional, not the Oracle product), and uses the same IDE. The synergies extend past easy use of services; the same business rules and human workflow components are used between both products.

  • 11.5.10 and OCS10GR1 Content Services As a repository

    Hi,
    I Had succesfully integarted 11.5.10 With Oracle Files
    But I did not succed to do same thing with Oracle Content Services 10GR1.
    Do you know if there is a way to use Content Services as a repository.(Workaround)?
    Thanks
    JO

    Now I just realized the old servers were RHEL4 32-bit and the new servers were by default created on RH 5 64-bit.
    I'm pretty sure I can't just fire it up on a 64-bit OS without doing some extra work like export/import on the database.
    App server not sure what I would do as libraries etc. would be different also.The apps tier node of EBS 11i is not certified on 64-bit Linux OS -- Frequently Asked Questions: Oracle E-Business Suite Support on x86-64 [ID 343917.1]
    My thought is to get the servers rebuilt using RH5 32-bit and everything should work hopefully as long as packages are there.
    Sound right or should I just go with what it runs on now (RHEL4) to be on the safe side.What is your database version? Please note that Oracle9i is not certified on RHEL5, so if you are running on 10g/11g database you should be good to go with RHEL5
    Thanks,

  • Oracle Content Services + BPEL for Human Workflow

    Greetings,
    I'm new to Oracle Collaboration Suite and BPEL. I'm starting to work with this technologies.
    My goal is to develop some custom human workflow using Oracle Content Services 10.1.2.3.0 and BPEL.
    Regarding software versions, some doubts arise ... I'm using Collaboration Suite 10.1.2.
    - Which version of SOA Suite (10.1.2 or 10.1.3.1) and BPEL are recomended to work with content services 10.1.2.3.0 ?
    Thanks,

    The certified version for Content DB/Content Services 10.1.2.3 is 10.1.2 of BPEL.

  • BPEL Custom Workflow (DocumentReviewWorkflow) with Content Services

    Hi All,
    Anybody working on BPEL Custom Workflows got Success in using the DocumentReviewWorkflow with the Content Services Development Kit 10.1.2.3.0
    Please update..
    Many Thanks in advance..!!!
    Prasant

    The DocumentReviewWorkflow that ships with the Content Services web services places the documents in the comments field.
    There are examples in the sample code - DocumentReviewWorkflowAction.java file demonstrates how to get the URLs from Oracle Content Services
    // Initialize the various Web Service Manager classes.
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer(100);
    String endpoint = session.getServiceEndPoint();
    setUpManagers(session);
    try
    // Obtain the new/updated document items.
    Item[] documents = WorkflowUtils.getTargetDocuments(session,
    m_WorkflowId);
    int len = (documents == null) ? 0 : documents.length;
    for (int i = 0; i < len; i++)
    AttributeRequest[] pathar = WsUtil.newAttributeRequestArray(
    Attributes.URL);
    Item tmp =
    (Item) m_CommonManager.getItem(documents.getId(), pathar);
    String filepath = (String) WsUtil.getAttributesMap(
    tmp)
    .get(Attributes.URL);
    // Convert the String list to a single string for convenience.
    sb.append(filepath);
    sb.append("\n");
    finally
    session.logout();
    You can then add the document links as attachments by creating a list of attachments and then inserting the URLs for the documents in the URI - I've done it using a combination of Java and BPEL. Here is an excerpt
    <bpelx:exec name="countAttachments" language="Java" version="1.4"><![CDATA[/*Write your java code below e.g.
                   System.out.println("Hello, World");
              // Note that the documents come back as a list of

    </assign>
    <while name="While_1" condition="bpws:getVariableData('counter') &lt; (bpws:getVariableData('numberofdocuments') - 1)">
    <assign name="createAttachmentList">
    <bpelx:append>

    <attachment xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/taskservice/task">

    <content/>
    </attachment>
    </bpelx:from>
    <bpelx:to variable="ParallelVar1" query="/task:task"/>
    </bpelx:append>
    <copy>
    <from expression="bpws:getVariableData('counter') + 1"/>
    <to variable="counter"/>
    </copy>
    </assign>
    </while>
    <bpelx:exec name="AddAttachmentsToList" language="Java" version="1.4"><![CDATA[/*Write your java code below e.g.
                   System.out.println("Hello, World");
              String filename = (String) getVariableData("filename");
              checkpoint();
              String[] docnames = filename.split("\n");
    for (int i = 0; i < docnames.length; i++) {
    int strlen = docnames[i].length();
    int slash = docnames[i].lastIndexOf('/');
    String filenameonly = docnames[i].substring(slash + 1, strlen);
    int item = i + 1;
    String varname = "/task:task/task:attachment[" + item + "]/task:name";
    String varuri = "/task:task/task:attachment[" + item + "]/task:URI";
    setVariableData("ParallelVar1", varname, filenameonly);
    setVariableData("ParallelVar1", varuri, docnames[i]);
    ]]>
    </bpelx:exec>
    This uses the fact that the document URLs are returned as a \n delimited string.

  • Oracle content services...and workspaces.

    I want to create a Oracle Content Services application.

    Hi,
    Yes , the changes in the settings are applied to the respective folder/workspace. You can see the properties from the properties window of Workspace/ Folder.

  • Report server 6i and Report services 10g

    what is the extra features in Report Services 10g which are not available in Report server 6i.
    why would we use AS report services 10g rather then report server 6i,and our only requirment is to run oracle report on web which can fulfill with the help of reports server 6i.

    You can see docs below

  • What are the differences between Oracle Service Bus 10g and WLI 10g?

    Hi,
    To me both Oracle Service Bus 10g R3 and Weblogic Integration 10g seem to offer the same functionalities for implementing an enterprise middleware.
    I would be grateful if someone could:
    1. provide me with the two products' differences.
    2. describe what their roadmap is?
    3. what are their positioning in the Oracle product catalog? Are they both members of Oracle SOA Suite? Fussion Middleware?
    Thanks a lot,
    Best regards,
    Babis.

    Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply,
    Eduardo: the answer to your questions are that all the flows will be short-lived but if we can make long-lived flows then we might consider developing them. We would need to persist the state of the flow somehow.
    I understand that some of our requirements would be better accomodated by WLI or bpel but we don't have an option but only to use OSB.
    So, do you think we could overcome the stateless nature of OSB by:
    1. writing to appropriate tables and reading from there and calling plsql procedures from the flows
    2. using JMS queues.
    In detalis:
    1. Regarding the writing/reading from Databases (in our case it would be oracle 10g R2 - probably RAC), is there something like a Database control in WLI, which we could use in OSB? What i have seen are using xquery execute-sql function or a JCA DB adapter but both of them seem to me not very easy to use. Is there another option?
    2. Regarding the JMS, in case that i want:
    a service that writes to a JMS queue what are the servicetype and transport that i should use?
    a service that reads from a JMS queues what are the service type and transport that we should used?
    Any information that you may share with me in the design and implementation of the above would be great.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Difference between "Workspaces" and "Oracle Content Services"?

    I am little confused with Oracle Content Services and Workspaces in Oracle collabration Suite. Can anyone throw some light on this?

    Oracle Content Services is an Enterprise Content Management System.It is also an infrastructure product over which other applications can be built. Workspaces is one such application that uses content services for managing documents etc.,. At the same time Workspaces also provides a single point of access to other forms of content such as discussions, groups , appointments etc.

  • Cluster and Content services

    Hi,
        In our environment, we have two nodes in a cluster with Content services runnin on both the cluster nodes.
         One of the process, which is configured to have watched folder end point. This process reads the document from watched folder and stores the same
         in specified content space structure.  When it is stored in content space we store the node id of the same for future reference.
         Now we have run into a situation where content from watched folder is read by Cluster Node A and stored it in Content Space under content services
    running on Cluster Node A. Now say after 5 mins we need to retrieve the same content but this time the process to read the content from content space runs on Node B.
      Content is read using retrieveContent service by passing node id which we have stored earlier but some reason it is not able to find the content.
    Does Livecycle automatically synchronises the cluster nodes for content and how often does it happen?
    Any suggestion on how to get around this issue.
    Regards,
    Vik

    For content services in cluster, content is stored at a shared location which can be accessed by each node. Only indexes for this content is synchronized across cluster nodes. Please make sure that content storage root directory is a shared and accessible location for all nodes in the cluster.
    Could you please perform a quick test?
    1. Go to http://node1:port/contentspace and add a content here.
    2. Now go to http://node2:port/contentspace and verify that you can see the content added.
    Thanks,
    Pankaj Parashar
