Contents of the MacBook Pro Box (13.3 Inch, Late 2011)

Hi,
I bought a new MacBook Pro more or less exactly two weeks ago, took the system out of the box, the power adaptor, extension cord and so on all present and correct. I know perfectly well how to use OSX and Macs in general so I didn't even thing to consult the manual, closed the box and put it in the cupboard.
Today I went to look for said manual just for the sake of reading it aaand there was nothing there. I checked an unboxing video on YouTube and it would seem that not only is there supposed to be a manual, but a rectangular black box also containing a cleaning cloth (I suppose I didn't expect one of these given that the 2011 iMacs lost them) and the obligatory Apple stickers. No box at all.
Before I phone Apple, I just wanted to check that this should definitely be the case; that there should be one of them with every MPB. There's certainly a space in the box for this, but I want to be certain that it's not something Apple have recently removed before I go asking for one. Thanks!

yes, the cloth and documentation and stickers should all be in there.  Here is a snapshot I just took from Apple's page.  Also, here is your manual in electronic format until you get the hard copy: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/macbook_pro_13inch_late_2011.pdf

  • Wi-Fi: No Hardware Installed on MacBook Pro 8,2 (15 inch, Late 2011)

    Hi Everyone,
For the second time now, I have to bring my Macbook Pro 8,2 (macbookpro8,2, 15 inch, late 2011) running Mountain Lion back to the Genius Bar due to a unrecognized Wi-Fi Airport adapter. The computer was purchased in March of 2012.
The problem started as I was watching 'The Daily Show" online, when suddenly, I lost connection. I clicked on the wi-fi adapter icon on the top menu bar, and saw that no access points were available when there normally were over 20, including mine in the house. I went into the network settings under system preferences and saw that the wi-fi card was off (although it was just on and still showed the full-signal indicator in the menu bar), and attempted to click the button to turn it back on with no response. All other options were either greyed-out or displayed no information. The Hardware tab didn't even display and the mac address suddenly became all zeros.
I rebooted the computer, only to discover the wi-fi indicator on the menu bar displaying no signal. Upon clicking on the icon, the dreaded "Wi-Fi: No Hardware Installed" was displayed. I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM with no success. I also rand the Hardware Troubleshooter ( Option - D upon bootup ) which neither saw the communications device nor reported finding any problem.
I brought it to the Genius Bar, and they ended up replacing BOTH the Logic Board, Wi-Fi adapter, and connection cable between the wi-fi adapter and logic board on July 23, 2012.
Now, it's October 10, 2012, and last night, as I was working through a VPN tunnel on the terminal on one of our remote servers, the SAME THING happened AGAIN! The connection was dropped, same scenario as above, and upon bootup I was greeted with the  "Wi-Fi: No Hardware Installed" message again.
The hardware magically disappeard with no mention of this in the Console, as far as I can tell. The Console mentions the loss of connection and inability to contact DNS, but nothing relating to hardware.
For the record, the bluetooth continued to function both times I've had this issue. The first time this happened, I was running Lion and now I'm running Mountain Lion.
So apparently there is something really wrong with either the physical enclosure causing a short somehow, the quality of the Broadcom chip on this wi-fi device, or there's some type of software/power causing the chip to short out.
My compouter is as protected as can be - it's in a Speck plastic housing with a keyboard cover, which was purchased after the first incident, I use it on a hard flat plastic laptop tablet at home, and carry it around in a Timbuk2 Laptop bag. It also has never been dropped.
What's the problem here? Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks and all the best of luck and success solving your own computer problems

Sorry for the late reply. I had a bad experience with the Apple Store and the 'Genius' Bar where I live. However, in the end, I received my MacBook Pro back from repair and everything is working.
Like I said in my previous post, the first time the Wi-Fi broke, I was using Lion. The mother (Logic) board was replaced as well as the Wi-Fi card.
The second time it broke, I was using Mountain Lion. Booting up the Recovery partition and Snow Leopard (new install) did not solve the issue. The Apple Store confirmed that the Wi-Fi card was broken through various testing, which I observed.
Since the attenna wires for the Wi-Fi run through the display, we decided the next logical step was to replace the Wi-Fi card and the display. The reasoning is that there could have been a short or cross connection in the attenna wiring that was causing the Wi-Fi cards to short-out/burn-out. The Bluetooth continued to work in both cases the Wi-Fi failed, meaning that it was unlikely a cable problem.
Since the display and wi-fi have been replaced (20121025), I've had no problems. The wi-fi card is working.
I'm glad the kext file solution has worked for you. I've seen posts on this solution; however, after determining that this was indeed a hardware failure (by using Recovery console, booting from Snow Leopard, and using Hardware Troubleshooter (it didn't even see the Wi-Fi) ), I didn't bother with fiddling with the kext (driver) files. Besides, this hardware is supposed to be designed to work with the OS without any problems whatsoever. Shame on Apple if they don't ship proper drivers for their hardware!

Can you AirPlay to an Apple TV with the MacBook closed? I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro.

If you are using airplay then that should be fine once the content is playing. You can't use home-sharing in this manner however.

  • Don't see the Macbook Pro Retina display 15 inch 2.6 Ghz i7 model

Macbook Pro Retina display 15 inch 2.6 Ghz i7 model - what happened to this model ? just brought this computer 4 months back and suddently this model disappeared? also the price on this one is equivalent to another higher model with 2.7 Ghz and 16 GB memory ?

Apple removed some Retina MacBooks Pro and started selling other ones with slightly better hardware last week. If you have this MacBook, you can continue using it because, although Apple has upgraded the hardware, changes aren't big compared to your MacBook Pro model

  • Where are the discs in the MacBook Pro box?

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro pre-loaded with Lion this weekend at Best Buy. The box contains the MacBook, a couple of power cords thingys, a brief instructional manual and other printed ephemera, and that's it. Doesn't this MacBook come with the OS discs? What do I do should I need to reboot from the OS discs? Can anyone offer any info or adv

There are no discs with computers that come with Lion pre-installed. See OS X Lion- About Lion Recovery. Should you need to boot from the Recovery HD:
To boot from the Recovery HD restart the computer. After the chime hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
If you don't have a Recovery HD then see OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant

  • Can the macbook pro accept a 30 inch monitor without paying extra

Does the mbp allow video out to a 30 inch monitor without
paying extra for the adaptor if an adaptor is even needed?
i.e is the video card to run a 30 inch monitor already included?

Since you can add in the build to order on the store the 30" LCD without paying any more than the 30" LCD on its own, I can only surmise it includes everything you ened for the 30" LCD. I'd go to one of the stores here:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/
    and verify.

  • Is there a key on the MacBook Pro to toggle display options for a projector

I have had some difficulty getting my InFocus projector to consistently work correctly with my MacBook Pro. Is there a key on the MacBook Pro that toggles the options for projector display? There was one on my last MacBook and my previous PowerBook.
    Thanks -
    Dudley Warner

No, there is no longer a key to control external display modes (it's F7 on my 1st gen MBP, but the option was removed along with the embedded numeric keypad in the Early 2008 models). There's not a substitute keyboard shortcut (with the exception of installing a macro player like Keyboard Maestro). Your main option is System Preferences > Displays (as stated, ticking the box to show Displays in the menu bar provides a helpful shortcut).

How can I sync my contact on the macbook pro with icloud? iPhone & iPad sync with no problems, but not with the MacBook Pro.

I took my iMac to be fixed and when I got it back, mail was not set, so I called Apple and they helped me set up mail. Now the new mail goes to trash and there is no number by the 'inbox' to tell me how many new messages I have. I cannot save a draft to 'drafts.' There is a large number by 'trash' (I think all mail went to trash - including drafts). When I send myself an emai, it goes to trash also. This is on both my iMac (the one taken in) and my MacBook Pro (same emails) which was not taken in.
I went to 'rules' but have no idea what to do there. There are no rules in the rule box. When I click 'add rule' it puts 'rule 1' in the rule box, but since that was not there when I took it in, I delete it to have an empty rule box.
Can someone pleasehelp me. I am completely stupid with all this. Do not under stand what is suppose to be set up in 'rules.'
    Thank you so much,
    Arudi

Now new mail is coming to both computer's inboxes but there is no number on the stamp icon on dock to show number of emails on the iMac. Nor is there a number by either email address under MAILBOXES/inbox (sidebar) on the iMac. This number is showing on MacBook Pro.
I also can save drafts now on both computers.
Seems the Pro is fixed and the iMac is only missing the numbers on dock icon and by addresses in inbox.
Now that the problem is less, I feel i am wasting your time but will continue so maybe I can get those numbers back.
Two emails > AT&T email and gmail.
Apple's Mail program for email - yes, and gmail.
    IMAP for both accounts.
Did not change mail configuration on MacBook.
The iMac and MacBook Pro have the same mail configuration except in Accounts/mailbox behaviours/store draft messages on the server was not marked on MacBook > it is now.
'Store junk messages on the server' was marked on one computer for gmail, but is unmarked on both now.
On the iMac, Accounts/Accounts info/Outgoing mail for gmail is smtpgmail.
On the MacBook Pro for gmail it is smpt.gmail.com (plus) my email address.
Rules/Add rule window, on the MacBook third line is 'Any Recipient', on the iMac third line is 'From."
The last box on that line has my email address on the MacBook.
The last box on that line has the last address I sent an emil to (last night), on the iMac.
On the last line on iMac, no box was selicted for 'to mailbox' > I choose 'inbox' because it is on the MacBook Pro.
Now I have a Rule #1 and am not sure I should have because there was no rules marked when I took the computer in.
Thank you. I relized I had done the labeling wrong when so much of my question appeared twice and no one else's did. I know how to do it now.
    Thank you so much,
    Arudi

  • How do you install Photoshop 5.0 onto the Macbook Pro?

so i've been trying to install the photoshop elements 5.0 for about a weeeek now...lol & this thing still isnt working! i'm really gettin angry! jk. but i'm serious tho, how do you install this onto the macbook pro?

OK seriously, I did not want to make you feel stupid, it was in fact the first thing that came to my mind. Now, if you got something from Costco, there is probably a box or a CD with it, which should tell you whether it is a PC version or a Mac version. These apps usually come with items like a camera or maybe a scanner included. Please take the time and check what you got. If there is nothing on the disk telling you it's a Mac-version, youprobably got the wrong thing.
The Mac version is available via Adobe's website, just look for Photoshop Elements 9, that's the current version. There even is a trial available.

  • Two external monitors + ethernet on the Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013)

The new MacBook Pro 13" retina have 2 thunderbolt connectors and one HDMI but no ethernet port (how pro is that?).
As the title of this post suggest, I want to drive two external monitors as well as an ethernet port.
1.) Is there a dock that woudl allow such setup out of the box?
    -OR-
2.) Using the Macbook Pro's two thunderbolt ports and the following adapters:
    - Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet,
    - Mini DisplayPort to DVI (is this actually thunderbolt compat?).
Can once of the thunderbolt connector be splitted or chanied to drive etiher: two screens or one screen + ethernet?
Or would I also need to use the HDMI port in such case? If so is there any performance difference between the Macbook Pro's HDMI port and the thunderbolt ports? Can all these be run concurrently i.e. thunderbolt display and the HDMI port?
The monitors both have DVI-D connectors.

Thunderbolt expansion docks are beginning to appear.  "They ain't cheap."   This one would support what you want to do ... Belkin Express Dock  (using both Thunderbolt ports on your MBP)
Thunderbolt devices can be daisy-chained however I don't believe that means it will support 2 displays on the same chain.
miniDisplayPort and Thunderbolt are co-compatible.   You can plug a miniDisplayPort cable into the Thunderbolt port in order to connect a display.
DVI and HDMI are co-compatible.  You should only need an appropriate cable to connect the display to the MBP's HDMI port.

No you don't need to use AirPlay from the computer to AppleTV.
Just use the AppleTV as you would with wifi. Everything is controlled from the AppleTV.
