Control assignments bypass environment settings?

I have UC33 which has 8 channels and I would like to control more tracks in Logic.
I've set up environment so that I can switch to control channels 1-8, 9-16, etc., and it works ok in environment midi monitors. But as I midi learn some fader in control assignments, it stops going through environment settings and ignores my setup. So anything moves in environment after midi learn.
Is it supposed to work like this or am I missing something?

I see what you need... Right now I'm away of Logic but will try to assist.
You need to duplicate the incoming midi path and use the IAC port to make the trick.
1.Create several "Faders" in Click & Ports using the "New" menu.
2.Cable the faders serially and patch the last one to a Standard Instrument object which port is set to IAC bus/port.
3.Cable the first "Virtual Environment Fader" from the bottom cable of say the "Input View" Monitor ( this way you will duplicate the midi path ).
4.Select each Virtual Fader and assign its "Out" definition ( in the Inspector ) to match your hardware controller CC# etc.
5. Open the Controller Assignment dialog (CA) and learn any Logic parameter.
Note: During the "Learn" process you must use the Logic Environment Virtual Faders - i.e the CA will get the assignment from IAC port getting it is a hardware device !
After this procedure the trick must work... I.e your hardware CC# will not be eliminated from the "Physical Input" and they will go to the Sequencer using the top Monitor Cable, while the bottom monitor cable will carry the dummy copy using the IAC and will reach the CA.
You can delete the "Virtual Environment Faders" and cable the bottom "Input View" monitor cable directly to the IAC Instrument after the dummy learn processing.

  • NVidia nForce Control panel saves EQ settings in XP

    Interesting little discovery 8)
I had to reload XP lastnight and so far all I have done is load "nForce_winxp_2.00_BKSOD-FIX.exe" drivers I had backed up on my HD.
I discovered after a coldstart that my EQ settings have remained exactly as I set them when I shutdown this afternoon about 8 hours ago.
I suspect that there may be several reasons why the settings "get lost" after a restart.
1.) I hate having things in my system tray so I either disable them in MSconfig or disable them by the application's configuration settings(if available).
I don't mess with Antivirus or monitoring software, I leave that alone.
In  the past I have always disabled the nVidia Sytem Control utility by right clicking on the Sytem Tray Icon and de-selecting "Load at Startup" This time I did not.
This will also remove it from the listing in MSconfig never to be seen again or have the ability to re-set it to "load at startup" ever again. At least that's how I have remembered it.
I think that by disabling that function it may affect previous EQ settings as I think there are hooks in the registry to refer to a log or something of that nature.
It's purely speculative but makes sense to me.
2.) Windows Update, Automatic Update or SP1 may also be interfering with it as we all know that it replaces dll's and such without any intervention or permission, but I have found that after a few reboots, things seem to settle in an start behaving normally for the most part.
I am going to avoid SP1 for now and see if anything changes.
I think someone that knows a contact at nVidia may be able to pass this on to the Driver team to look into this and see if they can incorporate something in the "Windows Control Panel" as it puts an Icon there, but all it does is launch the interface, but does not allow you to re-set the "Load at Startup" or any configuration for that matter.
It doesn't even need to be in the Control Panel if all it's for is to launch the interface.
I think that most of us might prefer a Quick Launch option next to the "Start" button instead of a system tray invasion.
Just an observation I though I'd share 8)

I can now say that XP SP1 has no effect whatsoever on the newer Windows XP-Unified Driver Package Version: 2.03 for the K7N420. I have installed them with no problems whatsoever so far.
I did notice that the Soundstorm control panel is installed in the Start Menu Program group, the Control Panel, and is set to launch to the system tray at startup.
Removing them in MSCONFIG did not stop the system tray utility from loading at startup but this was after one reboot, I set it back. EQ settings, sound levels, and environment settings stay configured.
The key I believe, for those of us that reboot or shutdown often is to leave the tray icon set to "load at startup" as there is no setting to return it to the tray once it is removed unless you reload the utility and drivers.
I believe there is a hook in the registry that is hidden and could easily be modified if we knew the location of the key and the value or parameter to enter.
Hopefully nVidia could supply the values and key location at some point or incorporate the option somewhere other than, the system tray "right click menu". Perhaps within the Interface itself. This redundancy would allow advanced users more control and shouldn't affect novice users adversely as it's only a redundancy, and it should provide a way to reverse the setting. I would think that this would cause more support calls to the OEM in this case.
Novice users can cause this interface to dissapear and lose settings too easily with the current setup.

Quick question though gfilitti...I noticed that you are using 3 256MB sticks of DDR RAM on your K7N420
No problems whatsoever but I haven't played any games for more than a couple hours. I do tax the system in other ways with no problems.

  • Autoexec.bat, Environment settings and XP

I'm running XP Home, and sdk1.4.1_02. Initially I modified autoexec.bat to include SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02\bin, but to understand the symbol javac, I'd have to c:/autoexec.bat. I read a few ealier postings of people having the same problem, and went to the control panel -> system -> environmental settings and added new definitions for PATH, CLASSPATH, J2EE_HOME and JAVA_HOME, and still the only way I get javac to be recognized it to execute autoexec.bat each time from the DOS prompt. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

winxp ignores autoexec on bootup (if it exists) as it merely a legacy thing and is looked upon by the system as just another batch file... u need to put the paths for the java bin and j2ee bin directories (as you have in the autoexec inside the PATH variable in your environment variables dialog...

  • Control assignments are deleted

I cannot exactly understand in which precise circumstances it happens, but I regularly save Midi control assignments on Key Command window, then quit Logic and reopen it and all is fine.
I work on some songs and, say, the day after I launch Logic and control assignments have disappeared....
I think it's due to Logic crashes. I'm not so sure, but I am persuaded that Logic crashes make it delete control assignments

    Sampleconstruct wrote:
Yeah, that's a known Bug in Logic - the assignments are saved within the preferences file in your User Library. Some people have tried backing up that file and reimporting it when the settings have dissappeared but that doesn't really help in most of the times.
preferences and Key-Commands has been changed and in LP8 there is a new function "Initialize All Except Key Commands"
That's why you cannot backing up your preference settings without loose the your personal Key Commands...
The correct way for keep safe your KC settings is to use the function that you find in option menu of KC windows "Export Key Commands"...
LP7 was able to read your KC directly from its logic Preferences folder, but LP8 don't be able anymore... you must use "EKC" in order to save your control settings

I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and  use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

  • Detect obsolete mitigating control assignments?

    Hello,
What report/s would you use to detect obsolete mitigating control assignments?
The scenario is: A user has been assigned a mitigating control, let's say during the CUP workflow, to mitigate a certain risk that came with a certain role. Later, that role is removed from the user. Now the user is in the scope of a mitigating control. However, the user is not even subject to the risk in question anymore.
Which way (periodically?) could you detect these cases and clean up the mitigating control assignments?
    Thanks and regards
    Patrick

    Hey,
My experience of cleaning up controls has not been very straight forward.
I have had to perform various risk analysis reports and look up a list of user accounts that have been marked as "Expired" etc.
It can be slightly more difficult  if, like many organisations, you decide to assign a control with a infinite validity period (i.e. 12.12.9999).
The Business and Internal Control team need to be very proactive about regularly monitoring the controls and reviewing the assignments. This is one reason why I strongly recommend that controls are only assigned for a set period (i.e. 365 days/1 year), so a compulsory review takes place by the control owners/business on a regular basis. This makes the controls much more affective, robust and fit for purpose.
Happy to hear other's opinions and ideas.

  • Strange info in "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains"

For my Mac Mini my Network IP Address always has a self-assigned 169.254 number that I cannot change. Strangely, this same IP number is similar to info that is in the Proxies section (of Network Settings) under "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains".
No matter what I do, this info (*,local, 169.254/16) appears in my Network Settings in the Proxies section under "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains". (I tried removing the info and it would cause the "Configure Proxies" selection to default to "Always Use PAC File". Had to go back and retrash all the plist files to have Proxies go back to "Configure Proxies-Manually". Still, the info (*,local, 169.254/16) continues to appear in the "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains" section and my IP address is always a 169.254 number.)
Comcast cable modem via direct hardwired Ethernet works fine with my other computer, so not the modem. Also, other computer does not have any info in the "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains" section.
Installed a fresh copy of OS X 11.5 on a new hard drive. Still the same problem.
I posted this issue before but only got one responder and the problem still exists. Any clues? Somebody must know about this stuff. Help please.
    Thanks

When your Mac wakes up, it does not yet have an IP Addresss. It wants to send a request to a Router for an apprpriste IP address to use now. But it needs to have an IP address (like a return address) to receive any messages. So, ... wait for it,
... it (your Mac) makes one up. There are rules that ensure it is a random address, but they always start with 169.254. It is on the same subnet with any low-order 16 bits This is the "self-assigned" range of IP Addresses. This address is only good for talking on a local network segment, for things like asking for a valid IP Address from a DHCP-enabled Router.
In most cases, on most networks, the 169.254 self-assigned IP Address is replaced by a valid Local IP Address such as 192.168.xxx yyy or 10.0.xxx.yyy so quickly that you never even see the 169.254 Address.
If you do see the 169.254 Address, it can be read as "Nobody will talk to me" or "Nobody will give me an IP Address". When you have this IP Address for more than an instant, you should suspect bad cables for Ethernet connections, bad signal strength or interference for wireless, Router configuration problems, or Mac configuration problems.
Mac configuration problems are often solved by using the "Assist Me" button is System Preferences > Network  and choosing to set up again.
Another diagnostic is to try using Network Utility and the Ping function, and Ping-ing the address of your Airport base Station, often 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 or similar. This will tell you if the Router is reachable, or there are cabling/wirelss signal problems.
In this case, proxies are not an issue, and are simply a distraction from the real problems.

You can't enter sites in a list to make Firefox remember names and passwords for specific sites.
If the password manager is enabled (remember passwords is check-marked) then Firefox will ask via a pop-up from the key icon that appears on the location bar whether you want to remember that name and password and that name will then appear in the list in the password manager window.

Websites can use autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.<br />
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password in such a case.

  • SSDT-BI: How to add and deploy environment settings

Currently I deploy my SSIS projects via the wizard to several sql servers, on which I have to add and configure individually the environment and map it to the project parameter.
Am I right in that it is not possible to manage the environment definitions within the SSIS project and to deploy them together with the project to a target server, specifying via a deployment profile/wizard which environments shall be deployed?
If yes -> I vote for adding this feature. It would help me to keep (source controlled) track of environment definitions for Test/Prod environments. Additionally, deployment to further server instances would be much smoother.
If no -> Please give me a hint how I can get to that point.
    Thanks a lot!

In SSIS 2012 if you use project deployment model you can do this programmatically.

  • Bypassing proxy settings for IPv6-adresses.

My MacBook is currently connected both via IPv4 and IPv6, and I prefer using a squid-proxy when surfing. Alas, my proxy only supports IPv4.
In network preferences I can type in hosts to bypass proxy settings for, but I'd like to do this for every single IPv6 host. Any solutions?

The format should be comma-delimited, like:
    <pre class=command>localhost, *.domain1.com, www.domain2.com</pre>
However, IIRC, Network Preferences is pretty tolerant - it'll accept most forms of input and will reformat it into something that makes sense to it.
