You should change the DB_NAME parameter in the initial configuration (init<SID>.ora) file for the clone database before startup to CLONESQL.

Control file failed error while duplicating database using RMAN
I am using oracle database 10g R2 and trying to make a clone of the source database orcl on the same machine but with different directory structure with the name of test.
When i run the duplicate command to create test database, then following error is generted:

RMAN Restore Control File Fails - File Header Validation Fails
hi everyone,
This is 9i on Windows 2000.
I'm trying to restore a control file from a backup made by RMAN on another server.
I expected Oracle/RMAN to choke because it knows the backup file was not made from this servers database.
RMAN>restore control file from '......' gives ORA-19563 Control File header validation failed
Is there a way to force RMAN to restore a file, in a situation like this?

What do you mean by this statement ? Do you mean that the servers are on different platforms ? If so first you need to do RMAN platform conversion to able to recognize the controlfile.
If not, Can you make sure of the following
1) source and target servers are same operating system
2) source and target database homes have same versions. -

Rapid install gettin error when create control file
hai all ,
i faced problem when im install fresh ebs R12
my environment :
sun sparc 64 bit
solaris 11
this occur when i try to install fresh R12
using rapidwiz , the error say ORA-00821: Specified value of sga_target 1024M is too small, needs to be at least 2100M
and when creating control file failed,
is any clue with this problem ?

Please mention the size of the redolog files..which you haven't and secondly, tempfile is not be added in the control file script, create the temporary tablespace later after opening the database

ERROR IN RECREATING CONTROL FILES
hello,
I am trying to learn the concepts of database administration.
I am facing a problem while creating a new control file:
O.S=Windows 7 ORacle 10g
What i want to do:
1. The database has been created, now i have deleted the control file of my database to learn creating a new one.
2. I have issued the command :
create controlfile reuse database ipl noresetlogs;
3. I am getting an error
Error at line 1:
ora-01503: create control file failed
ora-01565: error in identifying file

Sorry, my mistake, I did not pay attention to the cloning part.
For this error, looks like the database was not cleanly shutdown before copying the files or that preclone was not run successfully. You will have to run preclone again, and shutdown the database normally, then copy the file again.

Some extracts of the metalink document,
To overcome this problem encountered on Windows, please execute the following steps:
1. Right click on "My Computer" > "Advanced" tab > Click on button "Environment variables".
2. Edit the value of NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS from the value which is greater than 12(e.g. in this case 16) to 12. Apply the changes.
3. Reboot the machine to ensure that the environment variable NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS is set to the corrected value i.e.12.
4. Clean the current install.
5. Check the value of NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS on the command prompt before the rapidwiz is started :
echo %NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS%
6. Run rapidwiz and finish database(of the Oracle Applications) installation.
7. Once the Oracle Applications is installed, the value of environment variable NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS could be reset to its original value.

and why does it shows temporary tablespace TEMP1
but in real it is TEMP
i dropped around 50 days back from production and added TEMP to it -
Control file creation failed while installing ---------R12 release 3
While installing R12 release 3 I am getting following error at the time of Step 2 0f 5
RC-50004: Fatal: Error occurred in ApplyDatabase:
Control file creation failed
Cannot execute configure of database using RapidClone
following is summery of my server hardware
HDD capacity 146GB X 10 nos. ( RAID5 with 2 arrays)
8 GB RAM
Operating System is Red hat Linux Enterprise 4 with Update 5
Following are the HDD partition details
Boot 1GB
Root 50GB
Tem 12GB
SWAP 24GB distributed on two HDD partitions equally
Database and Application HDD portion size 500GB
I am refering Metalink note Note 402310.1 all the setting are correct

I have a temp file that had been removed at the OS level.. on the source And I want to updated the control file regarding this so that it does not record this file any more.
I am using rapid clone (EBS) to cone this source database unto the target but is failing on the target control file creation as it's trying to find the temp file that had been removed at the source. OS level.
So I will like to update the control file on the source so that it does not reflect this dropped temp file any longer and then do the clone again.
So What's the best way to achieve this or please point me to a metalink note:

I had tried modifying the the file adcrdbclone.sql in which is caled by <RDBMS $ORACLE_HOME>/appsutil/template/addbtmpl.drv by removing the temp file that does not exist .
and then ran perl adcfgclone.pl dbTier again but still failed on the control file creation.

I found that the issed was that there is a datafile that was dropped at the source at the OS level ... ( A mistake by one of support staff).
So How can I modify the control file creation at the target not to reference the data file that does not exist. I have tried removing it as stated in my previore post but it stall fails at the control file creation

Control file and spfile auto backup backup is failing
Hello All,
I am using Oracle RAC 11gR2 with ASM. My database is 2 nodes RAC1 and RAC2.
I am taking RMAN database backups to ASM diskgroup (FRA) and to a Network File System mounted on both RAC1 and RAC2. I have this requirement to take backup also outside ASM.
I have set: CONFIGURE CONTROL FILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
I am runing the RMAN backup job from node 2 (RAC2)
I am facing the below error when taking a backup to the Network File system;
