  • Converting pdf to Word 2003 in Acrobat 9 Pro

I am using Acrobat 9 Pro.  I want to convert pdfs to Word 2003.  I have followed the instructions to export to Word, but when I get to the dialog box that selects the conversion method, I choose Flowing, which is recommended, and click OK, and I get an error message that my PDF document may be corrupt.  This happens with every pdf, whether it is a form downloaded from the internet or a text document I have created myself.  If I try to convert to RTF instead, it makes the "conversion", but in doing so, it creates a file containing an image that is not editable -- it does not create a plain text, editable file.
Is the problem that I am using Word 2003?  Word 2003 is not on the list of file formats to which the pdf can be exported, but when I get to that screen, I choose Workshare PDF in Word (which I believe I read somewhere is the correct choice for conversion to Word 2003) as my selection and it gets me to the "conversion method" screen (which gets me to the corruption error message). Again, even if I choose rtf, I do not get an editable document.
    Any ideas???

    Something to try -
    Export the PDF to RTF.
Open the RTF file with Word Pad.
Save As (perhaps to a new filename -- 'something_bis.rtf')
Open this file with MS Word.
Not particularly surprising that the PDF you posted behaves poorly when 'worked' with Acrobat.
It is an output of Ghostscript.
Compounding the awkwardness of export is the fact that the PDF is not a Tagged PDF.
A significant raison d'etre for Tagged PDF is to support export of PDF content to a word processor application.

  • Converting PDF to word using OCR

How do I convert a PDF file to Word format without the text changing on the Word document?

    Hi IBEW45,
OCR is enabled by default when you convert a PDF to Word via the ExportPDF website. Just make sure that you're selecting the correct language for character recognition.
If you're converting to Word from within Reader, it is possible to disable OCR. If you're encountering issues where there are odd characters in the converted Word file, you may be running into font issues. A good troubleshooting technique is to disable OCR. Here are the instructions: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • I have a subscription, yet when I attempt to convert PDF to Word I am asked to buy a subscription.

I have a subscription.  Yet, when i attempt to convert PDF to Word, I am asked to buy a subscription.  What explains this?

You should not have had to purchase ExportPDF if you have a copy of Adobe Acrobat XI installed on your computer.
Open Adobe Acrobat XI (not acrobat.com!)
From there, open the PDF file that you want to convert
Choose Tools > Content Editing > Export File to Microsoft Word Document (See image, below).
Click Settings to turn on optical character recognition (OCR) if your PDF contains scanned text.
Name the Word file and save it in a desired location.

  • Converting PDF's to Text

I have a huge collection of documents I want to digitize. I just bought an Epson scanner, so I can scan the documents in a variety of formats, including .jpg, .tiff and pdf. Unfortunately, I can't get the OCR software that came with the scanner (ABBYY FineReader Sprint) to work.
Then I remembered seeing PDF converters online, so I figured I could just scan everyrthing as a PDF, then convert it to text. But I'm confused. I tried Adobe Acrobat's export function, but that didn't do anything. I read that you can open a PDF in Preview and copy the text, but that doesn't work.
It sounds like there are two ways to create a PDF. With OCR software you can create a text-PDF, whereas I apparently have a scanned-image-PDF, if I understand correctly.
Anyway, I'm confused. Can anyone recommend a software program or online service that will convert PDF's to text on a Mac? I'm also interested in learning how to batch process PDF's. I'm going to have hundreds of documents, maybe a few thousand.
    Thanks for any tips.

Since being able to scan combined with OCR will be the easiest approach, getting the OCR software to work would seem to be the best solution. Which version of FineReader Sprint do you have? There's a version in the App Store (https://itunes.apple.com/app/abbyy-finereader-express/id412310371?mt=12) which is supposed to be compatible with Lion and Mountain Lion and if that's not the version you have, perhaps you can upgrade to it. Check out http://www.abbyy.com/checkforupdates/?PartNumber=71817&product=FineReader%20Expr ess%20Edition%20for%20Mac which might do the trick.
Unless the scanning process has the OCR step built in, what you'll get is an image, usually JPG, which can be turned into a PDF file but it's still just a picture. If you could turn it into a PDF that has actual text in it, then you can get into text extraction. There are a number of programs which are supposed to be able to do that. The only one I've tried that works pretty well is MS Word in the Office 2013 suite for Windows. I have it running in a Windows 8 Virtual Machine on the Mac, but that's a long and expensive way around to begin to do what you need.

  • Error when I sign in to the Convert PDF to Word feature

When I sign in to the Convert PDF to Word feature, after I enter my password I get a message "An error occurred while signing in" and the feature locks up, giving the same message if I use the "convert" button, can anyone help with this.  Adobe Support sent 3 emails to reset my password all of which timed out before I could get to them. Hi bert090909,
Are you trying to convert your files from within Adobe Reader? If so, please make sure that you have the most current version by choosing Help > Check for Updates. Earlier versions of Reader could cause the specific error that you're reporting.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Having problems converting pdf to word. I'm not able to convert the file, what do I need to do?

having problems converting pdf to word. I'm not able to convert the file, what do I need to do?

    Hi prates77,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble converting files. Are you receiving the conversion error regardless of the file that you try to convert? Does the error occur whether you use the web interface, or convert via Reader? And an odd question: how many files do you have stored in your Acrobat.com account? We have seen reports of this error when there are a large number of files stored in the root folder of your Acrobat.com account.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,

Once again, my thanks for your assistance. If I may impose on your generosity one more time, if I understand you correctly if I create a document on Word or WordPerfect, print it and scan it to create a pdf, the search function will not work. But, if I create the pdf document in Word the search function will work. Unfortunately, I am not sure how I create a pdf document in Word other than by printing it and scanning it. Could you please explain.

  • How do I convert PDF to word on a mac?

    Hi,
I'm new to apple products and i'm struggling to find how i convert a pdf file to word.  On a PC the option automatically popped up on the file or edit and right click.  There is no right click on a mac from what I can see and there is no option in file or edit.
    Any help grately received.
    Thanks in advance
    Jo

I've found that some of the non-Adobe converters (and some of the free online converters) don't do such a good job as Acrobat Pro. If you want to try it out, you can download one of the free 30-day trial packages from Adobe that include Acrobat Pro X (such as Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard),
but it is really very expensive, but there are many other third pary PDF converter progarms out there:
