"Convert Selection for iPod" Dosen't work

I want to do this with a video I got off of my Lamb of God DVD so I can have it on my iPod, but it goes through the converting process... And it will do one of two things.
Next time I plug in the iPod it will not update onto my iPod or
Two it will update onto my iPod, but with no sound only video
As for in iTunes sometimes it will convert it and it will have sound and sometimes it will convert it and it Won't have sound.
What is the proper way to convert a video file in iTunes so that it will go on a iPod when it is updated?

You can try using a third-party program to convert the video for your iPod.
Try using MPEG Streamclip

  • "Convert Selection for iPod" Command Increases File Size?

    Hello!
I'm trying to convert a file that has the following characteristics (as reported in Quicktime Pro):
    Format: H.264 Decoder, 496 x 208, Millions, AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    FPS: 25
    Data Size: 572.20 MB
    Data Rate: 659.18 kbits/sec
    Normal Size: 496 x 208
I know the dimensions are strange, but it's because this is just a test I'm running on a workflow using Hand Brake to bring content back from a DVD (my content).
Now, when I drop just the original file into iTunes and then try to put it on an iPod, it says it can't be played. So I use the handy new option in the Advanced menu, "Convert Selection for iPod." This yields a new file with the following characteristics:
    Format: AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz, H.264 Decoder, 640 x 268, Millions
    FPS: 25
    Data Size: 1.36GB
    Data Rate: 1609.01 kbits/sec
    Normal Size: 640 x 268
How is it that the data rate and file size have increased so much? It now plays on an iPod, but why? I was under the impression that usually the problem with getting video to play on an iPod was a data rate that is too high. So it seems strange to me that the second file works and the first doesn't.
Finally, what is the difference between a file with the extension .mov and the extension .m4v? The original file has .mov and the converted ends up with .m4v. But they have the same characteristics in terms of codec. So what's the difference?
Thanks for any help and info!
    Cameron

I think I was able to resolve this myself after some trial and error. It looks like it is all in the name of the file. I've gotten some files to transfer after going into the Get Info section and updating the name (usually shorten the name or take out non-letter/number/# characters and then get the filename on disk to match.

  • "Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone" and Leopard Issues

I have a number of movies on my hard drive which I would like to convert for my iPhone, so I right click on them in iTunes and select "Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone." Since I upgraded to Leopard, this function has been taking an extremely long time, about 12 hours for a half hour clip. Versus when I was running Tiger, it would take about 1.5 hours. Is there a way to either fix this or allocate more resources to make my computer work faster?

Thanks for the reply, but iTunes did not create a new file. I looked in Movies and in TV Shows, and in Music just to be careful, but there is still only one file, the one that doesn't play on my iPhone. I even looked in my iTunes Music folder for a file it may have created an just not imported, but there is nothing there either.

  • Convert Selection For iPod--Video Problems

I've got video in iTunes, that's not the problem. I've checked, iTunes and QuickTime are both up-to-date. When I try and sync the videos to my 80gig iPod, it tells me that they can not be synced because they are not the right format. They're all .mp4 format and Apple lists that as compatible for an iPod. When I right click on the video and click on 'Convert Selection for iPod', it converts it, but I only get the audio with a blank white screen and no video. I've followed the Apple tutorial and they're video clip works when I convert it. I went to the DivX website and downloaded the newest version of it and installed everything but the DivX player. It still won't work. What should I do?

  • Convert selection for ipod?

When I right click a video file in my library, "convert selection does not show up". It just says "Convert selection to AAC" (which is my importing file-type.)
How do I get it to say "convert selection for ipod"??

Like someone else said, iTunes needs to be updated.
Also, know that the option only comes up if the video is not in iPod format.

  • Convert Selection for Ipod help

Having just updated to the latest version of iTunes 6.0.2 for the Mac I have been attempting to the Convert Selection for iPod menu selection for video podcasts that have not already sync'd up. I have successfully converted 1 video podcast and loaded it on my iPod 5G, but have also tried unsuccessfully to the same with 4 or 5 others. When I do Get Info on the converted files it does show the .m4v file extension and when I run the video podcasts from within iTunes, it looks like it is the right size.
Has anyone else seen this and can offer a resolution?

  • 'Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone' makes my movies silent. Why?

When I choose the 'Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone' option so that I can put my movies on my iPod, all of the audio becomes silent. The picture is fine and only the music/words go away.
Why? And, if there's a way, how can I fix it?
(These movies are either from a camera or from friends.... 'mpg' files.)

  • Can't Convert Selection For iPod.

When I attempt to put a quiktime video on my video iPod, it says that my iPod is unable to play that file type.
Then, when I try to convert that video for use on my iPod, it says it can't due to an unknown error (-3000) occurring.
Some help with this would be VERY much appreciated, as it is driving me insane.

I don't know how to solve your problem directly, as in within iTunes, but a workaround is to simply use other software to convert your videos.
I personally use iSquint, as its fast, free, easy to use, and works every time. After a file is converted, simply drag the outputted file into iTunes or your iPod as normal.

(The makers of iSquint now offer a more feature-rich version called VisualHub, which is not free and I cannot vouch for.)

  • "Convert selection for iPod" "The application iTunes quit unexpectedly"

I've been trying to convert some QuickTime movie files and a MPEG-4 video file in iTunes for my iPod. It gets partway in, or fairly far in, then iTunes spontaneously quits and I get the message "The application iTunes quit unexpectedly."
What might I need to do to convert the videos successfully and stop iTunes from crashing?

"The update “iTunes” can’t be installed.
The Installer could not install some files in “/”. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

  • When I "Convert Selection For iPod" the converted file has no audio.HELP!!!

I have tried many times but the converted file always ends up with no audio.
The files I am trying to convert are just basic Windows Media Player video/movie files each under 1GB.

I have the same audio problem with .mov to .m4v conversion. The .mov conversions worked fine before, now audio is bad in .m4v - both in itunes & on ipod. I tried the sample_iTunes.mov & it is garbled too, upon conversion in itunes.
This audio problem happened once before in Quicktime when playing podcast videos on Quicktime on a different computer, then it cleared up.
I have no answers. Is it the new itunes 7.5.0.20 & windows?

  • I don't have "convert selection for ipod" option in advanced menu ...

  • Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone Not Doing Anything

I have a ton of TV Shows that I ripped from my DVDs using Handbrake and put into iTunes. When I was ripping the videos, I chose to use the Apple TV preset since that is what I am mainly using to view the episodes. However, I have found that files created with this preset are not playable on the iPhone. I tried using iTunes' "Covert for iPhone" feature, and the file looks like it is getting converted, the progress bar goes all the way and the little success sound is played, but the file is still unable to be synced to my iPhone.
Has this happened to anyone else that was able to find a solution? The only thing I can think of is to rerip all the episodes using a preset that is playable on the iPhone, but that would be a real pain since I have about 600gb of video files to rerip...

  • Converting Movie for iPod

So, I have an .MPG file that i want to work on an ipod... but when i do the whole Advanced > Convert Selection for iPod thing which turns it in to an .MP4 file... the sound of the movie goes away.
Is there a way to fix it so it doesnt... or is there another MPG > MP4 editor out there?

If you need help first you'll need to explain a few more things. What version of QuickTime do you have installed? QuickTime 7.0.3 (which adds export to iPod feature) or QuickTime 7.0.4?
I've heard some people had problems with upgrading to QuickTime 7.0.4 - namely they lose their Pro functionality. Also what version of Mac OS X are you running is it Panther (10.3.9) or 10.4 Tiger? How old is your Mac? Is it one of the Intel based Macs released at MacWorld '06 or an older PowerPC based one?
Also what version of iTunes are you running? (This is important) iTunes 6 and higher requires QT 7.0.3 for best video playback. Videos I convert to iPod format using QT's export movie to iPod feature end up in .m4v format (the format of videos sold in iTunes) but mine are unencrypted - no FairPlay DRM.
I am converting my own videos to the iPod's format. .mp4 is another format the iPod can use. If you have ffmpegX (Google it) can convert video to iPod video or iPod TV format.
My videos exported to iPod format in QT 7.0.3 were originally in .AVI format.
Export to iPod (320X240) format = .m4v (MPEG 4 Video)
They work just fine and I have a Mac PowerBook G4 from winter 2003 with OS X Panther (10.3.9) + QuickTime 7.0.3 + iTunes 6.0.2
