Converting a BEFW11S4 V.2 router to a wireless access point. Can it be done?

I recently upgraded my home wireless router to an N device.  Now, I'd like to use my old B wireless router as an access point to improve coverage on my property.  I'd like to place it in a location in my house too distant from the N router to connect it with a cable.  Any way to configure the old B router as a wireless access point?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Dave

yes..u can certainly configure the router as an AP ... follow the steps below :
1)connect the B-router's port 1 to once of the LAN ports of the N-router
2)access the B-router's web ui , using its ip address
3)configure the wireless settings....in case , you want to make a roaming wireless network , the wireless settings on both the router should be same
4)if the ip add of the N-router is 192.168.1.1 , then change the ip add of the B-router to 192.168.1.2 and disable its DHCP server ..

  • RV325 Router: Adding a wireless access point for wireless printer

    Hi all,
I am trying to add a Linksys ea6350 wireless router to the RV 325 router with the goal of having a wireless printer on the network. I can connect wirelessly to the router and access the internet; PC's that are on the wireless router can find the printer and print. However, PCs that connected to the RV via LAN cannot. I am assuming that this has to do with how the traffic from the wireless router is handled and that basically at the moment both routers are functioning as two separate networks.
Is this something that can be remedied from the Cisco router side? Or the Linksys? Or Both?
    Thank you

Hi Jow, it sounds like you have this EA router connecting through the WAN port going in to your RV router, that would make the most sense because it would NAT your connection, allowing you to wirelessly connect but your LAN connection to the RV325 not working.
If you want to fix this, move your connect from the EA router on to a "LAN port", disable the DHCP server then make sure it is on the same IP subnet as the RV325  and just let it broadcast the wireless signal. The EA router LAN ports are normal switch port so it will work ok.

  • How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Can I disable my Verizon Fios Router Wireless radio, connect it to a switch and use my airport express as my wireless access point connected to an in wall ethernet port?

Here's the deal.  I have a Verizon Fios MI424WR router.  My house has CAT5 throughout the house.  The media panel is located in the garage.  I want to take the Verizon Fios Router and cannot it in the media panel so I can connect a switch to it, that way, all my CAT5 can fire throughout the house. Verizon being Verizon decided to connect the router directly in the office.
Can I go this route (Router in media panel, switch cross connect to it) and use Airport Express, connected to one of the in-wall CAT5 ports in my house and then set it up as my wireless access point to provide wifi to my portable devices (iPad, iPhone, Macbook)?  Is this possible? Will Airport Express comminicate with my verizon router via ethernet in-wall? Do I have to turn off the wireless radio in the Verizon router?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That is right, by hard wired I was just making clear wired vs wireless attachment.  AirPort family of devices will only act in a repeater mode with their own family members, not FiOS routers.  they have to be wired to work.
There are some useful docs you can download from Apple, Support, Manuals, Peripherals, AirPort (just follow thos links from the Support button on the top bar):
    Apple AirPort Networks
    Designing AirPort Networks
    AirPort Express Setup Guide
The last has a diagram of what you are trying to do, though without the house wiring, etc., but the basic principle.

  • Can I turn my old router into a Wireless Acess Point?

I have recently found my old BEFW11S4 V4 Wireless Router. It has the latest firmware. What I was wondering is it possible to turn it into an Access Point, so that I can increase the range of my Wireless Network. I currently have A wireless router on my network. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Never mind, I figured it out on my own

  • How do I configure my AirPort Extreme as a wireless access point?  My cable modem goes to a router, and one of those ports goes to my AirPortExtreme.

I am about to hook up my airport extreme.  My cable modem goes into a router, and one of those ports will supply my airport extreme.  I was told by the Apple Store that I would need to configure my airport extreme as a wirreless access point.  How do I do this?

With sbcgobal I got a Gateway 2wire modem. What I would like to know is how do I set up my APE as remote?
Unfortunately, you won't be able to do this as few non-AirPort routers will work with AirPorts in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

  • Unable to install AcrobatProDC to convert pdf to power point can it be done with Pro?

I'm unable to install AcrobateProDC to convert pdfs to powerpoint, can it be done with AcrobatPro?

    Hi markn117,
Could you please let me know what version of OS are you using.
Please ensure that you are signed in as administrator and anti-virus software is disabled temporarily as that might interrupt the installation process.
What exactly happens when you try to install Acrobat DC? Does the installation stuck in between?
Is there any message dialog box that prompts on your screen?
Using Acrobat Pro DC, you can definitely export any PDF to PowerPoint with ease.
Let me know more so that I can help you out with the same.
    Regards,
    Anubha

  • WRT54GNX2 Router set up as Access Point

How can I configure the WRT54GNX2 as an access point and connect it to our network. I can't seem to get the magic settings.

Uh, ok. I figured it out. I feel stupid now.. LOL! Now to set it up so that it can only route to the Internet port on the Internet router, so that people can use the internet, and not get access to our network...

  • WRVS4400N v1 Router with 3 WRT600N (Access Points) locks Internet access

    Have the following equipment
    1.  WRVS4400N  (DHCP Services and connected to DSL modem on different subnets, QuickVPN enabled but not working)
    2.  3 WRT600N used as Access Points troughout the house  connected to the ports on the above router
The problem is that after working for a while the internet access locks out....  although the wireless laptops get an IP address and can see other network equipment they can't access the internet.  After a restart on the WRVS4400N everything works again.
If I connect to one of the ports on the DSL everything is always working.  So what could be causing the problem?  I don't want the client to have to restart the WRVS4400n router every day.
    Any ideas?

Please update the WRVS4400N v1 to the latest code. The  new code fixes some of the DHCP issues

  • I have an airport express, which I want to use with my broadband providers router to create a second wireless access point but not with the same network name etc.

In effect, I want to have my providers router working upstairs and the aiport express downstairs connected via wi fi. The airport would have a different network name, then allowing me to connect the children to the access point. This would allow me to turn their network off at times of day etc.
    any ideas ?

I want to have my providers router working upstairs and the aiport express downstairs connected via wi fi
Sorry, but the AirPort Express....or any other Apple router......cannot do this.
In order to do what you want, you will need to establish an Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on your "main" router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express.
Configure the AirPort Express to "create a wireless network" using a wireless network name, and password that you select. As far as controlling connections, you can use the settings in Timed Access to establish rules about when the kids and cannot connect.

  • Using a WRT54G as a wireless access point with a WRT610N gateway router

I have just replaced my WRT54G gateway router with a WRT610N and everything is fine.  However, I want to know if it is possible for me to use the old WRT54G as an access point/wireless bridge on a different floor to the gateway.. that is I want the WRT54G to connect wirelessly as a router to the WRT610N gateway router (not cabling them on the LAN ports) and then I want to use its LAN ports on the WRT54G for local cabled devices rather than use it as a wireless extender. I have read various post but most seem to suggest cabling between the routers.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

With Linksys firmware: no. Not possible. A Linksys wireless router won't operate as bridge. It won't connect wireless to other devices. You have to run a cable
With 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or tomato: you can configure the router as wireless bridge or repeater. Please check the documentation of the 3rd party firmware to find out if your router model and version is compatible. Please remember, that a bridge or repeater with the WRT54G will slow down your whole wireless network.

  • How do I password protect wireless access point router model BEFW11S4 ver. 2?

My wireless connection works fine when it is not secure. My model router is sort of old and isn't supported by linksys. I had someone else set it up with a password, but someone must've hit the reset button as it no longer is working.  When I set the "passphrase" for the WEP in the setup for my router it says it is successful. When I to my network it asks for the password. It accepts it, but then I get a message that says there is limited or no connectivity.  I also get a message that there is no IP address. When I try to "repair" by right clicking the properties under the wireless connection, it says it Windows is renewing my IP address, but it fails, then the screen where you would normally see the IP address says Private Address IP 169.254.240.4 but it still is not connected.  When I drop the Mandatory WEP and go back to the non-secur connection it works fine. Any ideas?

For connecting to network, you have to use WEP key 1, and not the passphrase. Rest you are doing correct.

  • WRT54G-on't see router in list of access points

Hello everyone, hopefully someone on here can help me out. I recently had to reset my router, and now, when my laptop searches for wireless networks, my router isn't showing up on the list. I can access the routers setup screen, and I remember when I first got this router, the same thing happened and A friend of mine did something to one of the settings in the router so that I can connect to it wirelessly. Any help is appreciated!

    try changing the wireless channel

  • Using router as wireless access point

I have connected two routers to my BT broadband Hub (via ethernet) in order to create one big Wirless LAN across the house. Unfortunately, the routers have simply created independent wireless lans which I need to log into separately as I move around the house. Any idea how I edit the routers so that they all use the same user ID and Password....and effectively act as one integrated wireless network, so that i can connect to them as I move between them seamlessly. Thanks.....
