Converting Quicktime to FLV Format

How do you convert a Quicktime file to an FLV file for streaming on the internet?

They added H.264 support the the latest Flash player. You do not need to recompile your SWFs to take advantage of it either. You just take an H.264 .mov and rename it to .flv. Flash player does not care about the extension - it looks inside the file to see what type of file it is - but the player was originally programmed to ignore files that don't have a .flv extension (I don't know why they didn't take this out).
Try it. It will work, as long as you make sure you have the very latest version of Flash Player that came out about a month ago. I have read this subject extensively as I will be using the technology for my web site.

  • Found How to Convert QuickTime to FLV

I have another thread yesterday, but here is the final
information. I have a Mac and although I have Quicktime Pro, I
needed an authoring program such as Flash 8 or CS3 to make the
conversion. Bentley suggested I get a trial, as I could not buy the
program just to convert a few movies, but many have a water mark on
the trials, so I had to buy. He suggested I Google Convert .mov to
SLV and I came up with many companies who had programs I could try
and buy for $30 to $50. I settled on a California company:
    http://www.verticalmoon.com/
Care needs to be taken with any company because most have
many programs and you need to get the one who can do your job. With
Moon it was their Video2SWF program for $45.

  • Convert Quicktime to Flash Format with Controls Strip ?

    Hi everyone...
I have a Quicktime movie on a website that my client would prefer in Flash format... I have successfully been able to export to Flash format Flash CS3, but I have been unable to add the auto controls strip that's included when you place a Quicktime movie using GoLive CS2. Does anyone of any software out there that will allow me to import my original Quicktime movie format and export in Flash format with these controls included (sound control, play, pause, forward, backwards). It's sooo frustrating as I know the Quicktime format is fine... but my client just feels that Flash would be more cross platform popular.
Any ideas... any help?? much appreciated.
    Yours sincerely,

Hi Edward... and thank you for your reply... the page in question is listed below. I don't know how to add in the control buttons in Flash CS3... that's why I was hoping that there might be some small drag and drop standalone application that might create this control panel for me and automatically add it to the Flash video. In GoLive CS2 when you place a Quicktime movie you get options to show the controls or not... add a Flash movie in GoLive and you don't have this option. My client wants the controls and I am not knowledgeable enough to be able to fabricate them in Flash CS3.... so that's why I was looking to find out if there was some small app available that would do this function...
Again... thank you for your reply...

  • Converting to FLV format

    Hi,
I am a church webmaster. I built a simple media player to put on my church website that will play an intro video from our pastor. I looked at the javafx media area on javafx.com and it says that the only cross-platform media is flv. I'm not in a position though too purchase a rather expensive program to conver my video file to flv. Are there any free(or cheaper) programs that can convert to flv format? I have one program that I used to convert my file converted to .flv, but when I try to play the video I get an exception that says the media format is not accepted, so I guess the OnFlix software doesn't convert to that .flv format. Any other programs?
By the way, the program that I used was AnyVideoConverter if anyone is familiar with that.

There are lot of video converters (just search the term in Google!), lot of them free. I think/guess lot of them just use FFmpeg behind the scene, officially [or not|http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/shame.html]. FFmpeg is a well known video converter, it supports flv output.
It is a command line tool, but there are several GUI around it, for example WinFF (you didn't indicated which system you use, I assume it is Windows...).
Another well known/reputed converter is SUPER, which uses FFmpeg and several other tools.

  • It takes 11 hours to convert to flv format from Quicktime

I edited a DV movie from camera using FCP and one hour final movie after adding all animations and effects in .mov format which was about 12 GB takes about 11 hours to be converted to flv format is this usual or I need to do some thing.
    My system configuration is
    Power PC G5
    3500 MB RAM
    1.1 TB hard disk.
    I used Marcromedia Flash Encoder
    OS Mac OS X 10.5.8
is there some thing that can be done to shorten the time as the compressor of FCP wont submit batch. That is an error I am getting in it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA47672?viewlocale=en_US
and any of the solution suggested above does not seems to work.
This post is not about compressor problem I had asked that on another thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2374397&tstart=0
but it says to install an old OS which is not some thing logical I feel to be able to use compressor I wont be downgrading my OS.
What I want to know is to be able to convert to flv from .mov format so much time is it a usual thing or some thing can be done to shorten it.

That's what I meant. You just need a good compression codec.
Can you help to identify or let me know a few codecs I will try.
Is FLV the only resource you streaming server will use?
Yes it has to be flv.The decision is not in my hands it will be a Linux Server so if you are aware of any better file format let me know.I can suggest.
You can use hardware compression systems to go directly to several different >low grade codecs but I've never used them.
I do not have any such hardware but anyways
    thanks for this suggestion.

  • Can't convert to FLV format like I used to

I have a QuickTime Pro license and I am up-to-date. I used to be able to convert an avi file to flv format for use in Adobe Flash. Now I get an error saying "Wildform Flix Exporter encountered a problem. This version of Flix Exporter is not licensed to run under the current application." What's up with that? How do I now convert to FLV format? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the primary reason I upgraded to QuickTime Pro in the first place. Plus, I find trying to get to the right place to even ask this question to be extremely time consuming and frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

QuickTime Pro has never exported to Flash video without third party software.
Seems like your "Flix Exporter" ( http://www.on2.com/index.php?316 ) is that third party application.

  • Converting from quicktime to flv

I need to convert a quicktime video to an flv format that is progressively downloadable on the webe. How can I do that? I am on a mac.

    http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaencoder.html
That's what I use if I have to make an FLV. These days I try to keep things HTML5 friendly (MP4).
Unfortunately there AREN'T any trial versions of CS6 or CS5 available. It's part of some Creative Suites (I use Master Collection which has it). If you only need to convert one or two, you may want to download a CS6 trail here: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html
You need to follow the instructions CAREFULLY. You MUST login with your Adobe ID and refresh the page, or the download link won't work.  Design &Web Premium, Production Premium and Master Collection have Media Encoder in them AFAIK.

  • Can't convert .DV to any format in Quicktime

    Hi!
I've recently created a movie project in iMovie and exported it to Quicktime, for it to keep it's full resolution. The problem is... the file measures about 1.09 Gb, for a 5:49 movie. I want to convert it to .avi to reduce it's size, maintain quality and play on YouTube, etc,; I've tried different specs but it always freezes! I've tried also converting it to different formats like Divx or .mp4 but with no luck at all. Any tips on how to fix this?

First don't export to AVI there are enough horrible AVI's out there from Windows users to last until the 22nd century.
You don't need to export it at all just open the reference file in QT and export how you like. You have said nothinga about how it doesn't work, error messages or anything at all to help so try doing that.
DV is 13GB an hour so the size is simply a normal DV size for the duration you have there, and not a problem, and you may be happier opening it in MPEG Streamclip (free), and export to MPEG-4 with one of the iTunes presets.

  • CONVERTING FINAL PRODUCT TO FLV FORMAT FOR ZMAG DIGITAL MAGAZINE

I am trying to get my final product into a flv format to send to my bosses to use on our new zmag online digital magazine. I have no clue how to export or convert my final product in final cut pro 6.0.1 to this type of file. I am able to do wmv, mov, avi etc. Can someone help me and explain how I can get my video into flv format?
    Thank you sooo much!
    Victoria

Smaller files typically equate to lower quality.
With that understanding, you'd lower the video and audio bit rates (trial & error) until you get the size file you want.
Consider Tony's suggestion of making a H.264 file and changing the file descriptor to .flv
H.264 is an excellent codec for internet distribution.

You could try Handbrake, it works quite well.
