Converting scanned pdf's of hand-written items

When trying to convert a scanned pdf of an item that was originally hand-written, it converts as mostly symbols or garbled words. Is the program unable to convert items with hand-written text vs. type? Thank you.

Hi Janice,
Yes - unfortunately the converter needs actual 'text' to grasp onto. Hand written items cannot not be 'read'.
I'm so sorry to not be of more assistance! Let me know if you have any other questions....
Kind regards, Stacy

  • Convert scanned PDF to PDF containing text?

Before my last laptop crashed, there was an amazing new (new to me, anyway) feature in Adobe that would attempt to convert a scanned copy of a PDF to a PDF containing text that could be highlighted. I was ecstatic! Whenever I opened a PDF, Adobe would prompt me with a message about trying to convert the PDF to one that could read and recognize text. I would click yes and after the conversion, I could highlight text. After my computer crashed and I re-installed Adobe, I no longer had or could find this feature. I cannot find any information on any type of plug-in or any information related to this feature actually. Please help! What is the plug-in or version of Adobe that will attempt to convert a scanned PDF to a PDF containing text that can be highlighted? Thanks

Adobe Reader doesn't have support for recognising text. Please try Adobe Acrobat XI for enjoying this feature.

  • Converting scanned PDF to Excel

I have tried to convert a scanned PDF to Excel but find the columns and rows are all jumbled and do not reflect the original document.
I am using a Mac with MS Office 2011
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Keith,
I apologize for the trouble. I'd like to assist!
Was the original document excel prior to becoming a PDF? Unfortunately scans can be a challenge due to the converting not having actual 'text' to grasp onto.
If you would like you can send your PDF to me: [email protected] and I can take a look for you?

    Hi Gloria,
    Consider:
    CoolUtils.com
You can use the converter for free online.  It will handle most formats.
You can also buy a program that will do almost anything (if you need to convert files more than once in a while.)  Just click on the links along the left side of the page and take a look.  I've used both the free converter and I've purchased software from the company - I am satisfied with both experiences.
This link is cool to have around if you want to make your own icons, too.  Feed it a copy of your favorite tiny jpg file and it will give you back an icon file.  Smiling.
    Good Luck!

  • Converting scanned PDF into Word document?

Can you convert a scanned document that comes out as a PDF into a Word document and if so, how do I do it?  So far using Mac OS10.8 I get a blank document.

Open the PDF with Acrobat (Pro or Standard).
Perform OCR of the scanned image of textual content.
    Save.
Use Acrobat's Save As (pre-Acrobat 9) or Export feature to output to Word.
    Be well...

  • How do I convert scanned pdf to doc

PDF's that are generated by scanning sometimes are not convertible to word documents.   Why is this happening and what do I need to do to make the conversion?

There are also sites that offer free online OCR. Here are two:

  • Other options to convert scanned-document PDF into text?

I often get PDF files where the document was scanned in as an image. I'm wasting time having to re-type these. I found a way online to let Google do a conversion but it is slow (link below if you're curious).  What are some other options for converting this type of PDF into real text?
    http://www.labnol.org/software/convert-scanned-pdf-images-to-text-with-google-ocr/5158/

Well, at first I read your reply and thought .... sheesh, this is in the RTM category. I found the OCR command in the drop-down menu and ran it. I watched it going from page to page and heard a lot of disk activity. Then I started looking for the output. I checked to see if it had dumped the results into the Clipboard, but no. I ran a search of the hard drive for any file created today. Again no apparent output. The help instructions in Acrobat Pro 9 regarding OCR don't really say anything about where to find the output. Where should I look?

  • Hi when i convert a pdf to word I get a inccorect conversion, can any one please help me

hi when I convert a pdf to word document I get a inccorect conversion, can any one please help me

    Hey nikolays87340013,
    Thanks for your reply.
Please let me know what version of Adobe Reader you are using.
You might need to check for updates as well as repair installation from Reader Help menu.
While converting scanned PDF into Word, OCR runs automatically and its quality largely depends upon the quality of scanned images and clarity of characters in the PDF.
Please try the same conversion online after signing in at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf" and check if the conversion quality varies.
    Let me know.

  • How do i convert a PDF file in word that is written in Hebrew is that possible?

Before I sign up for the paid version of PDF - I would like to know if it is even possible to convert a PDF file with Hebrew fonts into word ? And be able to change the words and what is written after the conversion in WORD????  Thank you!

Is this a scanned document? To check, try and copy/paste text from the document using Adobe Reader. Do you get
    - nothing at all (nothing selected)
    - the Hebrew you want
    - mangled Hebrew (wrong order, wrong accents, wrong letter forms?)
    - complete rubbish characters?
The answer to this may help us understand whether ExportPDF will work for you.

  • How do I convert a PDF written in gothic words? And how convert a PDF "image/foto" in Word ?

friends, how to convert file written in Gothic letters to normal letters in Word pdf?
and also, how to convert an image of text to Word?

    Hi bulos solon,
I see that you have an ExportPDF subscription. Have you tried converting your PDF files, and found that the results aren't what you expect?
When you convert a PDF file to Word, the ExportPDF service does its best to match the font used in the PDF with one available in its font library. But, you don't get to choose a font for conversion. So, you could simply reformat the text in Word once the file has been converted.
As for converting a image of text (say, from a scanned document) from PDF to Word, that process actually happens with the ExportPDF service. It performs OCR (optical character recognition) by default. (You can disable OCR if you convert via Word, but not if you convert via the website).
I hope this has helped answer your questions. If not, please let us know!
    Best,
    Sara

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 plus I create PDF files for work some are scan pdf docs. When I install Photoshop Elements 10 it DOES convert all the PDF files to Photoshop Elements-10 Docs. it even changes and shows the PSE-10 Icon. So I am alway installing PSE-10 or uninstalling it. If I send the  PDF file that has been automatically converted to a PSE-10 the person I send the file to can not open it because they do not have PSE-10. What can I do to stop PSE-10 from converting my PDF files? Don't tell me to upgrade PSE-10 I tried their on-line program and  it is too advance for a hobby photographer like myself and their Help Desk is impossible to reach.

    Hi,

  • Scanned pdf email attachment - converted to text pdf - file then renamed to specific contents

    Hi All,
Im new to the world of programming, So forgive me if this is a stupid request.
I'm wanting to use a mail rule in outlook to call a vba script, to save all attachments from a certain email address. I have successfully done this part. Using the below code:
    Public Sub saveAttachtoDisk(itm As Outlook.MailItem)
    Dim objAtt As Outlook.Attachment
    Dim saveFolder As String
    saveFolder = "c:\temp\"
    For Each objAtt In itm.Attachments
    objAtt.SaveAsFile saveFolder & "\" & objAtt.DisplayName
    Set objAtt = Nothing
    Next
    End Sub
Now my problem is the saved attachment is a scanned pdf (non readable). I'm wanting to convert this into a readable text pdf, then extract certain data from the now readable PDF and use this data to rename the pdf.
Now i've done some reasearch on the subject and I believe adobe SDK has a function to allow this, I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers or code to achieve what im trying to do here.
    Im using windows xp
Adobe Acrobat 6.0 ( I know it's old but its the only licence we own)
    Microsoft Outlook 2007
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Nick

Hi Thanks for your reply, please can you confirm which version of adobe acrobat I would need that will work with outlook 2007? Also could you please supply me with pointers and/or the code to make this work with the correct version.
    Many Thanks
