Cool Banshee Idea..

So i'm sitting here reminiscing about how my old iPod could easily sync with banshee (now that i have a nano 6g i sync through a virtual machine) and i think, boy it would be cool if i could make my banshee folders sync to playlists so that i could access those folders right from the virtual machine.
This would allow me to download new music, place it in those folders, probably have to restart banshee but have my playlists synced to those folders. Then all i would have to do to get the songs on my iPod is to access those folders through the virtual machine and click and drag.
So the question:: is it possible to make "smart" playlists, as they're called on some media players, that update from a specific location?
Thanks in advance - p.s. if anyone thinks there a "hack-ish" way to do this id be glad to hear your thoughts, i'm trying to think of a way right now

Integrate your on-premises infrastructure with AzureIf you’ve experimented with Microsoft Azure, or are already using it for some of your IT functionality, you may be ready to take that next step and integrate your infrastructure with Azure so you can use it as an extension to your on-premises infrastructure. Finding all the information that helps you do this can be very time consuming. To help decrease the amount of time required to extend your datacenter to Azure, we’ve released the Datacenter extension reference architecture diagram, a static version is shown above. The diagram shows what a datacenter extension might look like, but it probably also leaves you wondering what everything in it is exactly, and why it’s in the diagram. What’s great about the diagram is that it’s interactive. • How many Shuffles can I register on one computer?

I'm planning on purchasing 7 shuffles for groomsmen gifts. I'd like to add the same playlist to each one.
Can I register this many shuffles - along with my own nano - on one computer?
    Thanks.

As said you prolly want to post this in iPod section, but to my knowledge I don't think there's a limit as to how many devices you can register to a computer's iTunes account.
There is, however, a limit (think 5) to the number of computers you can authenticate an iTunes account to. But that won't affect the scenario you mention.
    Congrats.... Cool gift idea btw.

  • Feature request

    Hi,
After taking an afternoon to test Beta 2 on a complex UI design I have some suggestions:
    1. You need to add the ability to create masks. I understand there are some work arounds, but masks should be a non-trivial add especially considering how easy they are to use in Flex. I suggest allowing the user to identify an object as a mask (either something created with the drawing tools available in Catalyst, or using imported assets). Then the user can associate objects to be masked with a mask (perhaps via a drop down list containing available masks). You should be able to select a single object or group of objects to be masked.
    2. Text alignment. I don't understand why the ability to align text (left, center, and right) is not in this beta. Also 'point text' and 'area text' are not very intuitive.
    3. Scrollable lists (using direct manipulation, not scroll bars). This one is a bit more complex so I can see why it probably hasn't been implemented yet. I thought Scroll Panel would do this, but it doesn't. The desired behavior is to have something like Data List for example but you can use the mouse (and ideally touch if the target platform is a touch enabled device) to directly scroll the content. Maybe the user could define dragging bounds and then be able to drag/scroll an object within these bounds.
Since I'm also a developer I have a few suggestions that can make the output a bit more developer friendly. One thing that would be awesome is the ability to select a skinned component and export the code for that component. This would allow designers or developers to skin components in Catalyst and then export the code for that component and hand it off to a developer. Currenlty I would have to cut and paste everything out of the single file exported by Catalyst (which is not an ideal workflow for any developer I know). One of the drivers here is that visual designers don't really think in terms of components (well I'm sure some may), they approach a composition as layers of visual elements. Therefore I don't think many visual designers will be able to effectively use Catalyst. Someone like myself, however who is an interaction designer and also a developer could really get a lot out of Catalyst. For a wire-frame oriented exercise I'd use Catalyst to add interactive elements in order to better show intended transitions and ui behaviors and simple share the swf or AIR app with the client for feedback. However for a high-fidelity prototype I would inherit polished graphics (that are also likely going to change during the development process) from a visual designer. In this case if I could use Catalyst to skin the components, export the code for the individual components (as separate classes) and then use that code in my Flex project that would be a dream. What would be even better is once I have skinned a component in catalyst, if the visual designer changes something I can get the new file and update the component automatically due to the (linking between Illustrator or Photoshop and Catalyst), export the code and bring it back into Flex/Flash Builder, effectively changing the visual design without having to make major adjustments to the code. The current way code is exported from Catalyst doesn't help at all unless my only intent would be to add a little extra interactivity. There is a whole other use case for Catalyst that seems mostly unaddressed.
    best,
    -jeff

Hi Jeff, please take a look at my remarks here and let me know if these answers address your issues....
[You need to add the ability to create masks]
... agreed, this is one of the highest priority features for post-1.0.
[I don't understand why the ability to align text (left, center, and right) is not in this beta]
... there are so many possible features, we couldn't get everything into the first release. Our decision was to focus on features that are really unique to Catalyst and that solve problems that are not solved by other tools. Masks and comprehensive text formatting are already available inIllustrator and other tools that interwork with Catalyst, so for now you'll have to use those tools to do this kind of work.
['point text' and 'area text' are not very intuitive.]
... I'll pass on your comment to our UI design folks.
[Scrollable lists (using direct manipulation, not scroll bars).]
... cool feature idea. This would be more of a Flex feature, not really a Catalyst feature per se. But I'll definitely pass it on to the Flex team.
[the ability to select a skinned component and export the code for that component. export the code for a component and hand it off to a developer. Currenlty I would have to cut and paste everything out of the single file exported by Catalyst]
... We don't have a way to do individual skins, but there's 2 ways to do something similar:
    a) in Catalyst's Library panel, do Export Library Package... to create an FXPL file. The FXPL can be imported into Builder as a libray project, and referenced from other Builder projects.
    b) import the Catalyst project (FXP) into Builder, and then selectively move component source files into other projects as desired.
You can find more details at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashcatalyst/articles/flashbuilder_flashcatalyst_workflows.ht ml
[if I could use Catalyst to skin the components, export the code for the individual components (as separate classes) and then use that code in my Flex project that would be a dream.]
... in methods (a) and (b) above, the code for individual components is indeed avaialable as separate classes that you can use in your Flex project.
[What would be even better is once I have skinned a component in catalyst, if the visual designer changes something I can get the new file and update the component automatically due to the (linking between Illustrator or Photoshop and Catalyst), export the code and bring it back into Flex/Flash Builder, effectively changing the visual design without having to make major adjustments to the code]
... in methods (a) and (b) above, you can repeatedly re-import the updated skins into Builder, without the need to revise any of your code.

  • Plugged my iPad into old computer now my cord won't let me charge ?

Ok we have 3 iPads in our house.
My son plugged the iPad into a computer and was able to put music on through  iTunes .
Now when I try to use that cord with the wall charger it doesn't seem to work?
It still works for transferring data from the computer. But refuses to charge it.
    Any ideas?
I also tried another cord and it's doing the same thing, now we are down to 1 charging cord for 3 iPads , not cool :(
    Any ideas?

    Yeah it's weird.
I did reset the iPad/s with home and power button. Didn't work :(
They worked fine until I plugged them into the computer.
They now won't charge any iPad :(
I appreciate all the ideas and suggestions .
    Thank you

  • Axiom 25 and Express Questions

    Hi guys!
Ive got some questions about syncing up my M-audio axiom 25 to Logic. My goal right now is to be able to write bass and drum parts (addictive drums) into the piano roll in write mode using the midi controller.
    1. first off how do I make the rotary controllers, say B1 to command logic to change the quantize parameters for when i'm writing drums in piano roll. turning clockwise will change the quantize value from 1/4 to 1/6 and counter clock wise will turn from 1/4 to 1/3.
    2. After that, how can I set B2 to transport left or right in piano roll (clock wise counter clockwise) so the playhead can move to the quantized value, which would allow rests.
    3. How can I set so my keystroke hits are placed between a certain velocity range? Like notes i play can only sound between 100 and 127 velocity.
    4. Could you maybe give me some other cool functionality ideas for syncing the two up for my work environment? Im sure there are things I haven't thought of because im new to the whole concept of a MIDI controller.

    Hi,
i don't know the Axiom, so maybe i'm wrong.
First, read the chapter on Control Surfaces in the Manual. Especially the Learn function (CMD-L) which can quick assign functions to a midi controller. Maybe this is all you need to get the knobs'n'buttons work. Select the function in Logic by clicking on it, press CMD-L and move the desired controller. That's all there is. You can, however, assign it manually in the control surface setup.
The second thing is the velocity range. This can be done afterwards with the transform function.
Usually i don't say this, but: Have a look in the manual. The tasks you want to perform are very specific, and it would be a long run to explain every little step here. However, feel free to ask if you have further questions

  • Adobe Premiere Pro post update crash by VSTs

I recently updated my CS5.5 and 6 on two different computers.  When I attempted to start Premiere Pro (PP) it would crash on startup.  I tried another computer - same thing.  I also noticed that PP started to scan my VST folder with all the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) .dll files.  I found this odd (new) and kind of cool (the idea of using third-party VST effects in PP was appealing).  Unfortunatelly, the application crashed everytime.  Suspecting the large amount of VSTs in my folder, I renamed the default VST folder (temporarily) causing PP to skip the scan.  The application launched without a hitch. Instead od renaming the VST folder depending on the app I want to use, is there a way to change the settings within PP to not scan certain folders or perhaps change it in the registry?
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the forum.
PrPro can use many VST's, but for this discussion, there are three "types" of VST's:
Those that PrPro can load and use
Those that PrPro can load, but not use
Those that PrPro cannot load, nor use - crashes here
Once, the only way to handle the "Type 3's," was to remove them, or hide them, but as of about CS 4 (?), PrPro changed how it handled the Type 3's. Now, it writes a "blacklist" for VST's, to let the program know that it cannot load them. While this WAS an improvement, it was not a perfect solution. What one needs to do is re-launch the program, and perhaps many times, depending on the number of those Type 3 VST's, until PrPro has cataloged them all. Once one has done that, unless they add new Type 3 VST's, or alter that blacklist, PrPro will then know NOT to try and load the Type 3's. This will mean several re-launches, but it shoud be a one-time deal. To be ideal, IMHO, it would be better if PrPro could "pause" on each initial encounter of a Type 3, write to the blacklist, then move on to the next, and the next, until all were either loaded, or blacklisted, saving all those re-launches. Maybe in CS 7?
Now, one should note that there are the "Type 2" VST's, which load OK, but still cannot be used. There is not list of those in PrPro, per-se, and at one time, and on the very first encounter of those, PrPro would issue a one-time message to that effect, but never make note of those again - they would load, cause no issues, but just not appear in the Effects list. If the user missed that first-time message, they might wonder, "Where is my ____ VST in the Effects list?"
As to why PrPro is still "finding" your VST's, after you moved them - PrPro surveys the entire system, as some VST's get placed in different folders. The way to really "hide" the VST's, and on a PC, was to locate them in the Desktop Folder, one place that PrPro does not look. However, that meant that for some other programs, the user would have to change the Path to the VST's to the Desktop Folder. That usually worked, BUT the Desktop Folder (remember, I am talking about a PC only, and do not know about Mac's) does have some special properties, and some other programs could not access the VST's there. That was only a partial workaround, and had the potential to mess things up for other programs. With the new survey/blacklist method, all that it should take is time to launch, re-launch, re-launch, etc. That is better, than in the old days, but still imperfect.
Good luck, and hope that helps,
    Hunt
PS - Note that those "Types" are not anything official, but are used as an example only - a Google search on "Type 3 VST's" would likely only yield one of my articles, and without the context, be meaningless.

  • Not only xml!

I would be really helpfull to access access data with spry
    without using xml!
Is it planned to add such a functionallity?

    Hi Andy,
Well first off, when you think of JSON, you should think that
it is just a compact way to store a
representation of a dictionary / hashtable / associative
array / object, arrays, strings, numbers, and booleans. I wouldn't
really say there is such a think as a 'JSON object'. JSON is just
about the way to represent information and pass it around. There
are a number of libaries to convert a tree of data in PHP (and
other languages) to JSON, check out this page:
    http://www.json.org/
So as far as how to store your data in the database, JSON
should be the furthest thing from your mind. Setup your database as
you normally would, fetch data from it, manipulate it, and then at
the last step, shove it through a JSON serializer to send it out to
    the client.
As for your application, here is an approach you might want
to consider. I saw this at NFL with their content management
system, and I'm sure it's used in lots of places, but at the time
it was a really cool new idea to me.
They stored all their data in a database, for pages that were
very dynamic to pages that were very static.
Next, they created a command line utility that given a URL
would fetch the data from the database, and write out a HTML file
to the correct location on disk. So say, you wanted to create the
    page
    http://www.nfl.com/pugbowling/index.html,
you'd just pass it that URL, it'd go find the data, generate a
page, and write it out to the docroot folder. In this way, they
could use the database to store all their information, and their
whole site could be dynamically generated from the database.
Then, and this was the cool part, they added an entry to make
their 404 error handler be the above script. So say, I come in and
want the pugbowling page above, but it hasn't been generated. A 404
error gets triggered, that triggers my page generation utility, the
page gets written to disk, and then that page gets returned!
    Saweet!
Finally, when you edited the data in the database, it would
trigger a deletion of the page(s) that went along with that data,
so that the next user would trigger the 404 and get back the new
page. I think they also had something that would kill off files
that were really old and hadn't been accessed in awhile, just to
save space (imagine how much space NFL would waste if it kept a
copy of every news story around in full HTML form on disk?)
Anyways, the same idea could apply to creating actual XML /
JSON files. Let some process handle the creation of the files for
your, making that part of the process completely automatic, so you
just need to handle putting data into the database.
It all would depend on the amount of data, the complexity of
it, and such as to how much you want to implement something like
above. For example, I maintain some websites using XML + XSLT and
just use ANT to generate the site. If I had a lot more data, I'd
probably go with more of the approach above. Or maybe half of
    above.
    Good luck!

  • Java Programming on Mac OS

Do you have an IDE for Mac OS 9 or X. Of course, it would be better if it's free. Where can I get sample codes? Do all programs created using Java on a Mac run on PC's aswell?
    Tnx!

Agreed, it is slow, but that is very likely due to a memory deficit. I've tested netbeans on Win2k with various memory configurations, bottom line the more memory you have will determine how well netbeans will run.
On intel platforms about 600 Mhz is good enough for most people (provided that there is sufficient ram). I'm suprised to hear that it is slow even on a dual 500 ppc. Maybe when they move to JDK 1.4 we can fully expect a speed bump :). I hear swing in JDK 1.4 is a lot more efficient.
netbeans is cool, but very slow (even on my dual 500).
You can run it with the default metal look as opposed
to the Mac L&F (which isn't really a mac l&f anyway,
the menus are on the individual windows instead of the
menu bar) to get a massive speed boost.
If you don't mind doing without the code completion
stuff you get a cool free ide from apple called
ProjectBuilder (It might have come with the OS on
seperate developer tools CD or eles it came as an
image on your hd...) You can also develop in c/c++ and
    objective c in ProjectBuilder...
As an alternative you could have a look at the
personal edition of JBuilder 6 for OS X (Its about $60
or so). Its a little faster than net beans, but it is
    still slow.

  • N97 FM Radio Pause function

I thought about this a few months ago - why don't Nokia implement a way to pause the FM radio o the N97? There's plenty of storage space on drive E:
What reminded me of this was an e-mail from Apple about the new iPod Nano which does have this feature.
Just an idea but I think it'd be pretty cool.

Brilliant idea, but it comes with problems of it's own. Apparently there's a developers forum on this site. I'm sure if you mentioned this there it can probably be done. Unfortunately I don't know the link to that forum

Any ideas on what could cause 2 of the same audio devices to show up and only one to actually load, besides a general hardware failure on the motherboard?

  • Guitar via Linux

Ok, this is the problem: I have an electric guitar and a very old and quite heavy amp for it. I seem to be moving around a lot and I don't want to haul the amp every time I relocate.
I want to use my computer as an amp. I want it to run under Linux. Is it possible to do this?
    I've seen these devices:
    http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/F … -main.html
    http://www.guitarport.com/
Any idea if they work under Linux?
I've also considered getting some sort of 1/4" to 1/8" converter and powering the guitar through line-in. The problem is I would have to have some sort of amplifier inside the converter, correct? (I don't know much about this...) I don't think the on-board amp would be powerful enough. Another option, maybe, would be some sort of software amplifier, is there such a thing?
I'm not really concerned about quality or recording or anything, I just want to play a bit without having to haul this big ol' amp around. Maybe I could just buy a smaller one, but running it through my Arch box seems like a cool geeky idea. Is it possible?
    Thanks,
    Dusty

I don't think you'll be able to plug the guitar directly to the card. I've got my guitar going through one of these (it has an amplified line-out / headphone jack), and it's pretty quiet compared to recorded music (because of their extremely loud mastering techniques).
If you want a new amp, i can recommend the Roland Micro Cube ... it's very tiny, comes with a shoulder strap. my friend has been playing for many years, and he was impressed enough with it to buy one.
That m-audio device you showed SHOULD work, since it's USB, and m-audio uses standard usb-audio for their other devices. however, it's pretty expensive! it's better to get a new amp.
