Cool tip for saving web clips to home screen

I didn't realize that this feature was available.
Snapshots of a Web page can be captured and saved in a Web clip by zooming in on a certain section of a page and saving that specific view.
So not only can you create a web clip, you can have it display a particular part of the page for better recognition. For example, a company logo or name.

Just got it to work. Power off, then back on and the Web Clips now work. Strange.

My iPhone apps wouldn't open they just blink for a second and the home screen comes back again...i tried installing a free app from the AppStore but it didn't work and also tried resetting the iPhone but ddnt work as well please help what do i do??

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

Add Web Clip To Home Page

If I add a web clip (e.g. NY Times) to my Home Page, the icon that appears is a picture of part of the "Debug Console," with the word "Error." I get the same result for any other web site. How can I get a more appropriate icon of a web site to appear on the Home Page?

How are you connecting? You have to be connected to the internet at the time you save the icon. It normally saves a small thumbprint of the entire page. If you zoom in (like on the NYTImes title bar) it will save that as your icon.
But if you are not connected at the time you try to connect it won't save anything.
Otherwise, try soft resetting your iPhone and try again.

How can I add an icon for a contact to the home screen?

That is not a standard feature on the iPhone. There are many features available on one and not the other.

If there is a website that plays your movie, then you can go to safari, type the website in, open the page, then tap the share arrow, then tap add to home screen. Thats as close to it that you can get.

Delete web shortcuts on home screen

How do i delete web shortcuts that i have put on my home screen. Went in to itunes and moved the shortcut into the trash, but after syncing it still appears on the home screen.

* Tap the shortcut and hold your finger on the screen until the icons start to shake.
* Tap the "X" icon on the shortcut.
* Confirm that you want to delete the shortcut.
* When the shortcut is gone, tap the iPhone’s home button to stop the icons shaking.

Changing the icon for saved Web links.

Im trying out different forum topics to see if anyone can help and I thought this would be a cool thing to do and might be doable with an applescript.
I save a lot of web address as files to go back to later and I find the default @ icon for firefox or the blank icon for safari pretty appalling. I was wondering if there was a way to change the icon so that when ever I save a new link file it would use the new icon. I was thinking about just an icon that has the Firefox, safari, chrome logo would be good or even better a little picture preview of the web page its self. Any help on this little idea I have is very appreciated

I tried this AppleScript but it was not working. Is there something that I need to check.
I had a few web link files in a folder and the script RAN the INFO window popped up but nothing changed.
This would be a valuable tool for me an my students,

How to customize the Save as dialog Box for saving Web Query???

we are usnging SAP NW Portal and BI 7.0 (SP14).
We have published BI web queries in the Portal and it works just fine, now when the User select the Button "Save As" in the Context Menu of any web query, this will open a new Dialog Box name "Save As Dialog Box", so from this dialog box the user can select where to save the query, he/she have 3 options* to save qureies: My Favorites, Bex Portfolio and MyPortfolio, this also works fine.
My Quetsion is: How can i customize the View of this "Save As" dialog box, so at the end the User can only select 2 Options: My Favorites + MyPortfolio. So how to hide the Tab: Bex Portfolio in the Dialog Box.
Points for any good answer.

In what you have posted, there is no reason it shouldn't work the same way in Acrobat 9. I would recommend that you submit your complete application to developer support.

I have filed a bugreport, but I am curious if anybody else has noticed this.
Summary:
Icon that was displaying progress of installation stays on screen next to normal icon and it is impossible to delete it or start the app with it.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Full factory reset of iPhone with iOS 7.0.2
2. Open web page with link for OTA installation.
3. After install is finished there are two icons for the app.
Expected Results:
Icon that was displaying the progress should disappear after installation.
Actual Results:
Icon that was displaying the progress stays on screen is not usable and cannot be deleted.

Configuration:
Server used to serve the page with installation files is "Server" app on MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion.
The same happens if other servers are used; Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Any tips for a web-bot

Hi All, Still new to Java, but I am trying to make a web-bot so I can eventually create an image grabber. Could I get some tips on how to procede. I can connect to a URL, buffer the data and parse all URL links from the stream...how should I proceed from here. Place the links into mySQL or an array so I keep crawling? I thought my SQL would be best. But my real concern now is this: If a connection times out or is a redirect or is password protected what can I put in my finally clause so the bot will start again and pick the next URL from mySQL. Maybe there is a way to avoid these connection issues without throwing an exception.

How do i dissable the master password feature for saving web passwords , when i don't have the master password?

I have mistakenly enabled the need for a master password for firefox to autofill passwords for me.I have no clue what the master password is.Is there any way to disable or change the master password , without knowing what the master password is?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Web Clipping portlet and https

We have an external ASP application that requires HTTPS authentication. We want to pull the application into portal via a Web Clipping portlet.
However when we try start up web clipping studio with the https url we get the following error:
'WCS-517 -- SSL handshake failed for HTTPS connection to URL https://icwwwd.cc.ic.ac.uk/spectrum/ict/services/software/shop/downloads/SoftwareShop.asp by method get'
My questions are:
1. Is it possible to use the web clipping portlet to access a secure page?
2. If so does anyone know why we are getting this error?
3. Assuming we can, how do we get portal to automatically log on to the application via https so users do not have to login twice i.e. once into portal and once into the asp application?

5.3 Configuring Security
When a user navigates to a secure site, the Web site typically returns a
certificate identifying itself to the user when giving secure information. If
the user accepts the certificate, the certificate is placed into the list of trusted
certificates of the browser so that a secure channel can be opened between
the browser and that server. Like aWeb browser, theWeb Clipping Provider
behaves as an HTTP client to external Web sites. In order for the Web
Clipping Provider to keep track of trusted sites, it makes use of a file that
stores the certificates of those sites, namely the ca-bundle.crt file.
The shipped ca-bundle.txt is an exported version of the trusted server
certificate file from OracleWallet Manager (OWM). The default trusted
server certificate in OWM does not cover all possible server certificates that
exist on theWeb. For this reason, when a user navigates to a secure server
using HTTPS, the user may get an "SSL Hand-shake failed" exception in the
Web Clipping Studio. To solve this problem, the ca-bundle.crt file
needs to be augmented with new trusted sites that are visited. As a Portal
Administrator, you must do the following to extend the shipped
ca-bundle.crt file:
1. Use a browser (preferably Internet Explorer) to download the root
server certificate from each external HTTPSWeb site in BASE64 format
that is visited, and is missing from the trusted certificate file.
2. Use Oracle Wallet Manager (OWM) to import each certificate.
3. Export the trusted server certificates into a file and replace the
ca-bundle.crt file with that file.
For more information about Oracle Wallet Manager, see Chapter 17 "Using
Oracle Wallet Manager" in Oracle Advanced Security Administrators Guide in
the Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2) documentation section on the Oracle
