Copy and paste replaced by åccented characters?!

Hi there everyone...strange issue here with my keyboard.
Suddenly (literally an hour ago) when I press the following keys, instead of getting the usual options of "Select All", "Copy" or "Paste" I get the following:
⌘A = å
⌘C = ç
⌘V = √
The only way around it that I can find is by using the menu bar at the top of the screen and selecting the application's "Edit" menu.
Can anyone help? I am using a Logitech S530 keyboard, Hong Kong regionalisation and U.S. key input but I have not changed any settings in the last couple of weeks (other than downloading the Apple security update) and I cannot figure out what is wrong.

A quick update - my "Select All", "Copy" or "Paste" functions can be accessed by using the Option⌥ key together with A, C, V instead of the Command⌘ key with those letters.
I still don't know how this happened though!

Make the Texts conversion using SE63 and copy and see
See that the Russian language should be activated in the system to accept that language.

Hi,
The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
So, changing one line ought to do it:
close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
tell application "Microsoft Word"
set doc_count to count documents
repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
end repeat
end tell

Copy and paste from word to InDesign - foreign characters

Hello,
I have a Word file using foreign typefaces, Chinese, Korean etc. I have the fonts on my machine because the word document shows them OK..but, if I try to copy and paste the text into InDesign, those characters either don't show at all, or you just get the pink color with the little gray squares...Does anyone out there have any tips for how to handle this type of situation.

Ooooh, okay. I retract my finger-waggling cautionary statement.
It could be one of a number of different things. I almost always place instead of copy/paste, but I don't have any difficulty copying & pasting complex script text of any sort in any of my various versions and platforms. I'd figure that there are two different possible routes - either there's something about the styling or clipboard that is doing this (meaning that it could be unpacked exactly the same way as any font drop, no complex-script knowledge necessary) or there's something about the non-Latin text itself that is causing the problem. Take a look at the clipboard settings (Edit -> Preferences -> Clipboard Handling) to see if changing those settings resolves the issue, by e.g. changing the settings to raw text.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest posting a lot more detail. Platform, versions of Word and Indy, the particular fonts that are failing, a description of how styles are set up in the current Word and Indy docs, perhaps a sample of the Word and Indy docs zipped up and made available for testing (e.g. if I can successfully copy/paste into the doc when your user can't, then there's something wrong with the user's install), and so on. Without that kind of information, the best I can do is take random guesses.

When I copy and paste text into Captivate 8, special characters disappear

I'm trying to copy and paste text from a PDF into Captivate 8. When I paste, all the accent marks disappear. (for example: ê shows up as e). I've tried pasting into other applications, and the special characters paste correctly, so it's a Captivate problem. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a quick fix?

Yes, if both the Mac and iPad are setup using the same iCloud account, then any notes you enter on the Mac will be synced across to the iPad almost instantly.
Same occurs with the 1Password app I mentioned. If you have both the Mac and iPad versions of it, and setup either iCloud or Dropbox syncing, any passwords entered on the Mac will be synced to the app running on the iPad ready for copying and pasting. This would be the most secure method, but not the cheapest.

Pages: On the new version of Pages, I can't select the invisible character "return". I need to copy and past it on "Find and replace". How can I do that? Thanx.

To change all the "-" by — that starts a dialogue on a book, I used to copy and past "Return" + "-" to ensure that all the "-" will not be change. But on the new version of Page if I select the "Return" character, and past it on "Find", the "Space" is appearing. How to select the "Return" character ? hanks for your help.

Select a song. Hit command-I (Mac) or Ctrl-I (Windows). In the pane which opens select the 'Artwork' tab. Drag an image to the space.
Or, select an album: same keystroke. In the pane which opens is a space labelled 'Artwork' - drag an image there.

Copy and pasting - maintaining content integrity when copy from pdf and pasting to word doc

My firm is currently using an older version of Acrobat to transfer portions of medical report to a word document format. We are only taking select excerpts and not exporting the whole document. As of now, i copy and paste the needed piece to word but the integrity of the transfer is terrible. Many misspelled words, wrong spacing, characters replacing letter, etc...We are curious if this issue could be resolved by upgrading to the latest version of Acrobat. Thanks for your help!

If you could give the version of Acrobat and post some before and after screen shots it would help us understand the issue (yes, avoid any personal info). Was the original PDF created as a scan? If so, is it clearscan or searchable? There are many issues that are hard to comment on because we don't know how the PDF was produced or what has been done to it in the meantime. It may be that an upgrade would help, but not necessarily. If you have a spare machine available, you could always download and install the trial to see if it would resolve the issue -- I would not install the trial over your current version.

Copy and pasting from Word to Indesign problem

I am copy and pasting Japanese characters from Word 2011 to InDesign CC, but when I go to paste into Indesign the characters to not show up. They are replaced with place holder symbols. I need help!

HT201269 itunes cannot see my iphone backup. I have a backup of the backup on an external HD, but even tech support cannot figure this one out. I copy and paste backups into the correct folder but itunes still does not see it. All I need are my contact

Sorry for short novel I am writing. I just wanted to cover as much backround as possible.
So, here it goes. I backed up my iphone 4 after renting a movie. The movie only played the starting credits before I was called on for daddy duty. A few days later the movie would not play, so I restored my phone from my backup. The movie would still would not play so itunes support refunded my purchase and ended my viewing privileges for that rental after verifying that I had not viewed the movie. I then had a problem with my contacts showing up twice in the contacts list after the restore. So I attempted another restore. All was well at this point. I then started having trouble with my pc and decided to copy the internal drive to an external source. A week later I had a system failure and did a factory restore on my computer. I re-installed itunes and tried to copy and paste the old backup into the new itunes. Now itunes just flat out does not see the backup file (I failed to mention that I did a factory reset on the iphone after the last backup, hopping to start fresh). Tech support had me uninstall and re-install itunes and then copy and paste the old backup into the newly installed itunes with no luck. The files are all there, but itunes just doesn't see them (itunes says the device has not been backed up to the cloud or to the local machine). We then tried backing up the factory restored iphone and replacing that restore file with one of my old backups on the external drive. Ok, this is where it gets weird. We replaced the guts of the folder but left the folder itself so itunes would continue to recognize the new backup folder with the old files. Whoohoo, itunes now see's a backup folder full of old files, or so we thought. The new files were deleted using shift delete so they would be gone for good and not mix with any files or folders. When I restore my phone, it restores the files that were deleted from the restore file (pause here for a moment and imagine the stupid look on the face of tech support and I while we silently wonder how files that were permanently deleted were restored). This left tech support and I both scratching our heads. My service issue was escalated to the next level. I waited for the phone call the next day that was scheduled at 10am to my wife's phone, but the call never came through. As usual, apple disappoints again. I just bought an iphone 5s and still have the iphone 4, and am looking for a solution to retrieve my contacts and restore to the 4 or 5s. I am guessing that files in other folders must be associated with the iphone backup in order for itunes to retrieve the files. Any ideas or support in retrieving my contacts would be greatly appreciated.

Acrobat XI Windows 7 - unable to (copy and) paste form fields to a different pdf.

To maintain a consistent appearance and function in the forms I create for various departments, I copy a few form fields (text, checkboxes) from an unrelated Acrobat PDF. Then I paste those fields into a different PDF document that I am making fillable.
I do this because Acrobat does not allow setting a default for certain attributes when creating form fields, i.e. an unchecked scroll option, a default font other than Helvetica (in Acrobat 8, 9, and X). Plus it is time-saving to copy and paste fields that are the same in another PDF, like name, address, phone. etc.
We just updated to Acrobat XI and Windows 7 and now I cannot paste copied fields onto a different PDF.
Using "replace pages" is not applicable as I am pasting to an entirely different form and copying form fields with the settings I use.
Is this a glitch or is something new that was not in Acrobat 8, 9, and X?
Also, question regarding this forum entry - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5638333#5638333 - which is somewhat different from my current question.
The PDF creator could not paste copied fields on other pages of the same PDF. Was this ever resolved so that copy and paste worked as it has for the last 3 versions of Acrobat?

Gilad: You're right: when the fields are different, such as a checkbox and a text field, and you try to title them the same, Acrobat gives you a message. I received no messages, the field names are not the same or I missed one and Acrobat is no longer messaging about it.
My question is different. Acrobat XI will not let me paste any field copied from a different PDF. I've been doing that for 5 years in three different versions. Maybe Acrobat XI has a new process for that, which I could not find in Acrobat help. Maybe it's because all forms now have extended rights automatically in Acrobat XI and there is another method to copy common fields to other PDFs.
Any thoughts about the new Acrobat XI? It's different in many good ways, but different.

Missing images and not able to use copy and paste anymore - just blank rect

Hello!
I've a problem that really scares me.
I use severall png and pdf images. But at one point keynote looses the media and just displays these grey rectangles instead of some images. I tried to figure out if it just happens with pdf images and replaced the missing pdf images through png24 images with transparency. It first worked fine (they showed up) and then it tells images can not be saved. If I open the presentation again, the images are missing. And it seems that the more images and slides i put in the presentation, the more images are missing…
But there is more: I even can't copy and paste these images anymore. If I try to copy one of the images I just have replaced (because they have been lost by saving), it just pastes the blank grey rectangle instead of the image.
This really is a problem because I now have to repetitive tasks (like same animation for the same image in the same size) over and over again. And when I save the doc – they are al gone again…
It really scares me and I don't have an idea how to solve this.
It also happens, if I repleace an pdf image with an png image and than try to copy this new png image. However I am able to drag the image from the Finder again.
I am working on a PB G4, 1.5 GHz, 1 GB RAM.
My Keynote Version is 3.0.2.
The Keynote Dokument is saved and opened from a G4 X-Serve wich is only used by Macs (so no Windows Filesystem anywhere). I still have anough space on both, my local and the server volume. I don't transfer the Keynote document. So it should not be a problem with the names on the files… And the files are just exported from Adobe Illustrator (png 24 files with "save for web" and the pdf files are saved as Illustrator pdf) – so they should really be fine and not corrupted…
At this time the Keynote document has a size of 179 MB (because of a video) and only 16 slides. And the theme was built from scratch – so no import from Powerpoint or so…
I looked through the Keynote preferences and found a thing like (sorry self-translated from german version to english) "scale placed images to slide-size". I wondered if keynote saves a copy of the sacaled image after that and corrupts the image itself? But I don't think so.
I've had these problems with earlier versions of Keynote, but it occured just sporadically and I could solve it through pasting it again. But this time I can not solfe it anymore.
Does anybody encounter same problem? Or has a hint?
I really would appreciate, because I have to finish the presentation very soon and are not able to work properly with that. Furthermore, I am scared of saving and opinging the presentation again, because the lost files can not be replaced…

I now have a hint:
As a colleague said, he encountered some problems with usagerights on our fileserver (XServe). He said he wasn't able to read files he put on the server himself again…
If this is true, the same could have happened to Keynote for placed images, as Keynote writes these images as separate files in the doc package…
I will try to work on my local volume and see if it solfes the problem.
But sooner or later I will have to place the whole thing on the server again…
Do you think this is the reason?

Copy and Paste not working properly in MLion

A week or so ago I purchased and installed the upgrade to Mountain Lion OS X. Whenever I try to copy large number of files from one folder to onother in my desktop, the copy and paste process does not.
Copy/Paste of a few files works, different from the previous OS system but works. However, if I copy 3000 files or more then the computer slows down significantly or freezes. The little colorful spinning wheel replaces the cursor arrow and cannot use anything else in the computer. I need to abort the finder (op+com+esc) to stop the process. While copying large number of files the copy status bar never appears to show the copying process. I was used to see the copy status window with information about the number of files, their size, time remaining and the little bar in the middle growing from left to right as the copy process continued. None of this happens with MLion.
I called Apple for service. I spent hrs with their customer service people on the phone who suggested a number of things that we implemented to try to correct the problem. Nothing worked! Finally they asked me to reinstall MLion and so I did. The problem was not fixed. They asked me turn on, off, unplug the computer, etc. and nothing fixed the problem.
In sum I just want my old OS system that used to work fine. MLion is substandard, we do not want our money back we just want the computer to work as it used to so we can return to be productive again. Any suggestion on how to reinstall SLeopard without having to reinstall every single piece of software in the computer? Thanks.

I am actually CUTTING and Pasting (CMD+C, CMD-OPTION-V) and Finder gets stuck either with the keyboard or dragging (Holding CMD to Move the Files)
I was downloading Midi files from a reliable website that I've using for years www.vgmusic.com. I was using Safari, so I downloaded Midi soundfiles from a particular videogame using the ALT key to speed things up. Say I downloaded 120 small (10-100KB ) files. I SHIFT selected them from the Downloads Folder and then I dragged them with CMD to place them in my 500GB (the non-system) partition. It got stuck. File is being used, was the message given.
So I thought it was Safari-related, so I switched to Firefox and downloaded another batch and dragged them to my Midi folder on the 500GB. Same thing. I've restarted and quit all open programs. I thought it was an external drive that was hogging access, so I unplugged all my external HDDs (320GB FAT32, 1GB NTFS, 3GB HFS+).
I also thought that VLC was the culprit so I reinstalled it and erased the preferences. Now it is not running.
Now I have some greyed-out files that are zero-kilobytes in the destination folder.
Let's say I try to move the first one "pkrs_petersburg.mid" and "pokecenter.mid" , this appears,
A message saying "preparing to move to "PokemonRSE" "preparing to move 2 files". Come on, I would expect to see this if the files were large, these are 23KB and 9KB!!
The message is in French and it means "It's not possible to move the file "pokecenter.mid" right now because it is being used by another task, such as the copying or moving of a file or the emptying of the Trash. Try again once the task is finished.
The other message (from a previous attempt) is "It is not possible to place all selected files in the same place: at least one of them, named "pokecenter.mid" is being used."
I already emptied out my Trash!

I have been backing up my photos to an external hard drive. I usually choose the photos, copy and paste them to the EHD. It has started saying "an item named "unnamed.jpg" already exists in this location. I don't know what to do.

Thanks Jim, I kind of thought that was the answer, but was hoping against hope that I was just missing something. Like I said, it's not a big problem. One work around I've found is to name a folder on the external hard drive the same as the name I give the folder to import to and then choose this folder to back up to. I still get a subfolder inside that folder named Imported on...... but at least it's in the folder with my chosen name.

Dreamweaver CC - cannot copy and paste

Hi, Dreamweaver just stopped permitting copy and paste. How can that be? How can a brand new install of DW suddenly not allow any text to be copied from one document to another? I have tried copying a section of four lines of text from one html file to another, doesn't work. I have tried copying the code view content from one to another, I have tried copying just one word from one html file to another, and nothing is working. DW has just stopped working, period. Simple edits that should have taken just 2-3 minutes and here I am an hour later, having restarted my system, applied yet another update to CC apps, and still, not able to copy and paste. Major failure. And another reason why I should not have been sucked into subscribing to CC. Thanks Adobe for letting me down yet again, will explain to my client that I can deliver simple updates because a multi-million dollar company has outsourced its development to India and let me with virtually useless software that is still in beta testing.

I did an update late yesterday AFTER this issue started, hoping that the issue would go away.

So DW CC is utterly useless to me now and I am searching for replacements because I need to make ongoing edits to client sites and don’t have the time to beta test Adobe’s ridiculously expensive software for them.
