Is it possible to copy and paste frames without keeping the
same variable names for pieces inside of those frames. something
like replication without duplication

Yes, This is not working. It should of course be working. The ability to copy and paste is very important. We should be able to choose whether we want to paste with time-stamps, or past without time-stamps.
Just to give an example of a use - I am learning a foreign language via Skype. After the class, I would like to make a record of the significant points. During the lesson, I have noted them down on the messenging past of Skype. After the lesson I would like to copy and paste. But I cannot, because what is pasted is an enormous document which is mostly filled with junk, viz, my name, my company's name, and very many time-stamps. Producing a 'clean' version of the conversation would require a considerable labour of manual cleaning which, experience suggests, is impractical.
The evidence of an enormous popular demand for the copy and paste function is clear. Of course, I have no idea what technical obstacles have led to this function disappearing. But all we can do, as loyal Skype users, is to urge their engineers to take another look at this function, and see if it cannot be re-implemented.

How do I get back my edit functions, copy and paste, without doing a restore?

When I switched to Firefox 4 I no longer have the file, edit, etc. functions anywhere. I can't or don't know how to copy and paste websites to emails for instance without the edit functions.

I have checked the toolbar buttons and have MENU ticked, I went to the customize toolbar thing and added (by drag and drop) the cut copy and paste and other buttons I cant find now, and they showed up at first, then they disappeared. The top section seems terribly narrow now and I cant find any way to add the buttons underneath where they used to be...help!

I have a container variable that I want to copy and paste into a custom data type. So I open TestStand's Type window, expand Custom Data Types then right click on <Right click to insert Type> and the Paste option in my popup menu is disabled. How do I get my exact data type there?

Copy and paste, without maintaining the font?

Hey all.
I keep running into this annoying situation where i copy and paste into a pages document, and i would like the pasted text to match the font and size of the rest of the text in the document. Is there a way that i can avoid having to select the new font and size after pasting? I know this doesn't sound like a hassle, but it always ends up being kind of a pain.

You're not the only one. That's why the designers of Pages included the command Paste and Match Style. It's in the Edit Menu.

Copy and Pasting Files keeps giving Insufficient Privileges Error

Hello everyone,
Hope someone might be able to help. I am attempting to copy files from a USB attached to my iMac external hard drive to my new NAS drive system, which is connected through my Airport Extreme by gigabit ethernet.
I know the NAS is using a file system that I do not recognize (its a WD ShareSpace, 4TB/3TB Raid 5 NAS), which could be causing the problem. Basically I am attempting to transfer all the files stored on the USB external to the NAS. When I copy all the files and paste them to the NAS through Finder, I get an error saying it could not be completed cause I do have Insufficient Privileges to do so. There are thousands of files to go through, but I have pinpointed two folders that are causing the problem, which themselves have thousand of files.
The USB drive info has "Ignore ownership on this volume" checked. These two folders may have some backups of Websites, which probably include a ton of files, like scripts, cgi, php and others that have permissions set specifically from the website. What is odd is I was able to copy and paste them to this USB a while back, so it should work when transferring to another drive. I think these files may be causing the problem cause I had another folder that had a website backup, and when I removed the entire website folder, I was able to transfer what was left.
Unfortunately I need to backup all of this, so I was hoping someone might be able to inform me of the glitch or how to rectify it.
I did a permissions repair on my main hard drive, which has OS X on it, but this drive has nothing to do with the transfer since the files are going to outside the computer. I cannot do a permissions repair on the the external USB drive.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

CS3 Copy and Paste objects - changing ID names

Hi all,
That subject doesn't describe things as accurately as I'd
like.
But here's the behavior my new CS3 is doing that I'd like to
stop if
possible.
If I have an object (Div tag or whatver.., maybe an entire
set of nested
tables 3 nests deep).
If, in design view, I copy a selection, then paste in a
different spot, I
noticed that the style I had associated with the ID of that
element no
longer showed.
That's becuase CS3 changed the ID of the object by adding a
2, or 3 or 4 as
the iterations progress with each paste.
I understand that in what I described, that's meant to help,
don't want more
than one item of the same ID (classes should be used then
instead).
But that aside, how can I turn off the behavior of CS3
changing my ID names.
I'd rather handle that myself.
Apologies if it's in an easy to find spot, if so I must have
looked right
over it.

Copy and paste help.

I am pretty new to this design thing, and I am running CS3.
I am basically trying to copy and paste from one photoshop doc to a new one to create textured prints.
I was able to do it once, and with the notes I took, I cannot figure it out on my own.
Everytime I paste my selection from the first doc to the next, there is a white border around my selection that shouldn't be there.
I am missing a step between flattening and unlocking the one layer in the first doc to the next doc.
Here's a screen shot that will probably explain this better than I can. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.
The new doc has the reddish background.
The far left doc is the one I cannot figure out how to edit in way where I can copy and paste without having that white border around my selection in the new one.
The middle one was done correctly, I just can't figure out what step I am missing.
What can I do to get the result I want?

Hi! Another simple way to accomplish what you want would be do use a Multiply blending mode. For example, in the far right document in your screenshot with the red background, you could select Layer 1, the pattern with the white border, and change the Blending Mode from Normal to Multiply in the Blending Modes drop-down. See the screenshots below.
A layer set to Multiply will only darken the layers below, so the white border copied with the texture would not show up over a red background. You can read more about the Multiply blending mode here: http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-editing/layer-blend-modes/multiply/

[solved] icewm copy and paste (terminal)

copy and paste works perfectly between graphical programms (e.g. abiword and firefox). However if I mark something in xterm I can't copy and paste to another application, like an editor or abiword.
I don't have this problem in xfce: copy in the terminal and paste somewhere else works.
What can I do?

IN EXCEL I USED COPY IN THE CEL WITH THE VARIABLE AND THEN" PASTE SPECIAL" IN THE OTHER CELLS.WHEN CHANGING THE VARIABLE ALL THE OTHER CELLS TOOK OVER THIS VALUE AND USED IT IN FORMULAS.

$B$1+$B$2 highlight a cell reference then click on new cell to make formula read $B$1+C2 then change C2 to be absolute if you want.
You will see a small arrow drop down when you cross the cell reference on the right side to change absolute or relative values. Time consuming and frustrating I know.
Time consuming, yes. But what's consuming the time is translating the vertical movement (down) of the formula to a horizontal movement (right- from B2 to C2) of the formula's cell reference. Relative cell references move the reference in the same direction as the formula is moved.

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.

On p 39 it tells how to copy/paste, which I do a lot already, but it doesn't tell where to paste it so I can access or print it whenever I want. It's kind of a long recipe. Too long to type out. Getting double copies (copy and past) of cast names in IMDb, older browser didn't do this.

I have a personal movie database I designed myself. I have always been able to copy and paste the cast list from IMDb to my database until I "upgraded" my browser from v.17 to v.27. Now I get double copies of the cast names and descriptions of the characters jump down and extra line. This is a very big aggravation to me. When I want to work with my database I have to use an older browser. Is there anything in "about:config" that I can change to correct this? The same thing happens between IE8 and IE11. What gives?

Yes, I have tried 31. The tabs were stuck on top and not changeable. I consider the tabs as part of the web page but the address bar is NOT. It would be nice to keep good features rather than "upgrading" away from them. Seems too many programs are just in a version race with total dis-regards to the users.
