Correct dimensions for Power POint Slides
What would you all recommend for dimensions for Power Point slides so that they fill up the screen
with no border. My customer is cramming too much text on each slide and it is beyond title safe, going to near edge of TV screen upon viewing.
I have sequences that are both 16 x9 (720 x 480) and 4 x3 .
Thanks,
Al
I agree with that much text it is not looking good on the TV that I am testing it on. On computer it is better. I thought about the color layer below the slide but the design of the slide has 2 color boxes, (one horizontal, one vertical) on it and putting a layer below doesn't look good so far.
I am probably going to have to edit each slide and shrink the font and increase the borders.
I am talking to the admin who made them today.
A bigger problem is that they have trouble playing the DVD's I make with iDVD in their PC environment. The DVD's either play jerkily or not at all compounded by the fact that the people have lost all the remotes to their DVD players and can't pick a chapter. So I am trying to come up with work around.
Thanks for response,
Al

Importing Power Point Slides into FCE
Hey all,
Have a project where I need to use a customer's power point slides in the finished video. Can I import them someway? Or maybe import into Live Type????
Trying to avoid having to type all of them.
Thanks,
AlYou can save a PowerPoint slideshow in many ways.
One possibility is to export a set of images with the format you like: jpeg, tiff, png, etc.: make sure to select the correct DPI (as defined in PPT) in the Options of the save as dialog. For example 180 dpi make a standard slide of 1800x1350 pixels that might fit well in standard DV sequences (default 72 dpi makes a low quality 720x540 image).
A second possibility is to export a movie; also in this case you can choose some parameters like the size of the frame. The default codec is Animation that is good, but requires a conversion of the movie in order to properly import it to FCE.

Power Point Slides Generation using java.
I apologize if this is not the correct forum for addressing this question but any answer from anyone will be highly appreciated.
Question:
Does any one know any software which can be integrated with Java to generate Power Point slides on the fly. I am looking for software component similar to iText for generating pdf.
Thanks in advance.
Indrasish.POI: http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/
It handles Excel documents, but not PPT as far as I can tell.
There is a commercial solution here http://tonicsystems.com/technology/products/ppt/ -

I cannot import Power Point slides into my presentation...
Hello, have created brand new project with Captivate 7 and tried to import a Power Point slide I made seconds earlier, and I get an error message. I tried the same with a new project in Captivate 6 (I have 6 and 7) and I get the same message. See image. Power Point was closed when I tried to import it. Any ideas what could possibly be happening?
Thanks for any help!!!As per the Captivate 7 manual:
1. In an open project, Select File > Import > PowerPoint Slides.
2. Navigate to and select the PowerPoint presentation file format that you want to import.
3. Click Open.
4. Decide where to place the imported PowerPoint slides in the Adobe Captivate project. Add the slides to the end of the project, or click a slide in the list and add the PowerPoint slides after that slide.
5. Click OK.
6. In the Convert PowerPoint Presentations dialog box, do the following:
a. Select the PowerPoint slides to convert to Adobe Captivate project slides.
b. Set navigation preferences for the selected slides.
c. If you want to link to the PowerPoint presentation, select Linked. If you want to embed the PowerPoint presentation, deselect Linked.
7. Click OK.
The PowerPoint slides are imported into the Adobe Captivate project and they appear in the designated location. If necessary, you can change the order of the slides.
Hope this helps!

Power Point Slides Change Color After Importing
I built a lot of training material (22 Captivate
modules/movies)- Power Point slides for text, mixed with software
simulations. Several of the modules need updating, however, since
we upgraded from Office XP to Office 2007, I have been unsuccesful
in importing the edited Power Point slides. Instead of the gradient
pale-blue background with black text (as it appears in my Captivate
movies as well as in Power Point) the moment you choose your slides
to import into Captivate, they become purple with teal text. I had
a co-worker access my files on a share drive and attempt it on her
machine, with the same result.
Anyone else having Captivate anomolies after upgrading to
Office 2007?I have also had inconsistent results with PowerPoint imports
in both Captivate 1 and 2. There seem to be less in version 2. The
problem that I have been experiencing is with fonts. I will have a
slide that clearly is within the frame in PowerPoint, but when
imported into Captivate flows off the bottom of the slide. This is
also incosistent from slide to slide. Here's what I have been
doing. It's isn't ideal, but hopefully time will get this issued
ironed out.
1) I go through my normal import procedures for PowerPoint
presentations by look closely at the thumbnails provided before the
final import. If it looks like there is going to be a problem, then
I bail out at this point.
2) I go back into PowerPoint, call up my presentation, and
the do a File > Save As> and then select the file type at the
bottom as JPEG. It will then ask you if you want to save all. I put
them in another directory and PowerPoint saves each slide image as
an individual JPEG image.
3) I go back to Captivate and import these as images in the
file creation sequence.
This usually results in a pretty clean set of slide.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I did a lot of internet research on this topic but couldn't solve it yet. Hope one of you can help with that issue.
The problem is that when I save a power point slide as an image file (bmp, jpg, png) and import it to indesign the image quality is getting bad. After resizing the picture the quality is at the worse.
Same problem occurs when I resize the image with an other software. Then the quality of the image is also very bad.
Has anyone an idea how to solve that?
greets tim
Indesign CS3 - MACThanks for your reply.
I tried this already and It's the same problem. PDF quality is perfect - when I import it into indesign it's getting worse.

I have been trying to resolve this for the past two weeks. I
have been successfully importing Power Point slides into Captivate
1 for the last year. Although have not done anything different,
Captivate is no longer importing the jpg logo (height 0.58" width
1" displays top right corner) on the PP slide . Everything but the
logo is displayed in Captivate. The logo is on the Slide Master . I
replaced the Slide Master, copied the logo onto each individual PP
slide and recreated the entire power point presentation without any
success. Can anyone provide a cause and resolution? Thanks.I have also had inconsistent results with PowerPoint imports

Updating Power Point slides changes the timeline
Hi all
I am using Captivate 4
When I am updating the power point slides it changes the captivate timeline for the slides
I set the slides to be 3 seconds and after each update I perform it extends all the slides to a longer period
Why is it acting like that?
Is there a way to prevent it from happening with every update I perform?
Thanks for your help
MeravHi Lilybiri,
The PPT slides that I add to the Captivate are not animated, these are static slides and I would like to set the duration for them.
The problem is that with every update the timing is overridden.
Thanks for your help,
Merav. -
Change advance on power point slide after import
How do I change a power point slide that was imported to advance on click but I want the slides to advance automatically?
Hello,
Watch the imported slides, they all have a Click Box inserted at the end of the timeline (see screenshot in the red rectangle). Delete that click box and the slide will advanced automatically.

Is there a way to replace a Power Point slide in Captivate and keep the CC notes?
Hello,
I have a lot of Power Point slides in my Captivate project. The Power Point presentation is on a Share Point, so it is impractical to "link" the Captivate project with the Power Point presentation. Now and then we need to make changes to the Power Point slides and then replace the old slide in Captivate with the new slide. We have a lot of CC notes and TTS attached to each slide, so I lose all of that when I replace the slide. Is there a way to keep the synchronized CC and TTS notes in place, and just replace the acutal slide?
Thank you!
Ryan1 - simplest way:
drag the sound file on to the audio well in the Inspector > document > document tab
music can only start on the first slide and will play untill the music ends, you can only have one music file in the presentation
2 - more control
drag the sound file on to any slide, add the images on to the same slide and use Builds to reveal each image in turn -

Error importing a power point slide into Captivate 4 project
I am trying to add a Power Point slide to an existing project. I am using Power Point 2007 and Captivate 4. When I try to insert a Power Point slide, I get the following message:
Error Message: Unable to load nsImportPPT.dll(999)
Can anyone help with this issue. Thanks!Hi,
nsImportPPT.dll is an "Adobe Captivate 4" dll and should be present in the "Adobe Captivate 4" installation directory (which is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 4" by default). Please check if this file exists there.
I think 999 error comes when the DLL is not found. Try Re-Installing your Adobe Captivate 4.

Rahul
