Corrupt e-mail

I have a message in my inbox, from a known customer, that will not delete, move or accept any action. The body of the message has disappeared. When trying to delete , the box says may have already been moved or deleted. Verizon
tech, out of country, have tried and failed. Different browsers, client, or windows xp or win 7...makes no difference.
Message is corrupt and will need to be flushed by a tech that can access e-mail server.
Verizon cannot or has not routed me to such person.

From the Web interface have you tried to create a new folder;  then use the move to dialog to move the email? If that works maybe you can just delete the entire folder.
Also if you look at message center store are you anywhere near the 2048 MB limit?
If a forum member gives an answer you like, please give them the Kudos they deserve. If a member gives you the answer to your question, mark the answer as Accepted Solution so others can see the solution to the problem. Thanks !!!

  • Messages getting corrupted in Mail app with Gmail

I'm having a following recurring problem with Mail app and my Gmail (company) account: At least once a day Mail app database is getting corrupted / out of sync with Gmail account. Mail is showing most of the mails correctly in the UI but some of the new messages are not the right ones but rather copies of older, typically already deleted emails. I.e. Instead of showing the real new msg content (subject, sender, msg body) it is showing in its place an older already deleted msg. How do I know: I go and check what Gmail webmail shows in browser window.
Rebuilding account sometimes works, often not. Usually I have to rebuild, close mail app, start again to get it back in sync. I have tried once deleting all Envelope-index files in Mail Library so that it did a longer rebuild. Helped for few hours and then this started again. Mail app is getting corrupted at least once a day. Very annoying because I cannot trust what I see, but have to check constantly webmail, which I would rather not use as my main tool for mail.
This problem started already with Lion and continued with Mountain Lion.
I guess next step is to delete all my account & setting and re-configure Mail app. Any other tips?

I'll chime in here to say that it affects me too.
Using gmail and mail ActOn to move messages around in mail.app. I'll start trying to see if I can make the corruption happen without using ActOn. I didn't have this problem in 10.4; and I only spent a week with 10.5 so I don't remember it happening then.
How do you identify the messages in the the finder for deleting so they can be re-downloaded? I've been accessing my corrupted attachments through gmail's web interface, so your work around would be easier than mine, assuming there is an easy way to find the right message.

  • Mavericks upgrade has corrupted my Mail program

After upgrading to Mavericks I can no longer open my Mail program, click the icon in the dock and all I get is the Mail menu bar at the top of the screen, no email program on screen, I can still see my desktop, any ideas as to what will fix this, tried Safe Mode boot, didn't help, tried clearing my Caches, didn't help.
    Thanks in Advance

Sorted it now, it was a mail account that seemed to be corrupting the whole program, disabled every account and then turned them on 1 at a time, when I found the corrupt account, I just disabled it again and it's now working fine.
Mail menu, then Preferences, then uncheck the Enable this account option on all the accounts, close mail, reopen, then enable 1 account at a time, close then reopen, should work until you find the corrupt account, once it stops working uncheck the last enabled account and continue, mines was only 1 account, so it was easy to solve.

  • Attachments is corrupted in Mail

    Hi
This morning I got a bit of a chock: I was looking for a 'old' mail that I have send, and was the trying to open a attached PDF file when I got the message:
Error opening the file, the file is damaged and cannot be repaired (Translated as I use a Danish OS X)
At first I did not pay so much attention, but then I found another mail with attachments, same problem, then I got chocked. The mail account is a Google mail, so I went to the web interface, found the mail, and there the attachment works.
Bottom line is that it looks like Mail in OS X Lion screw up the attachments.
I have - as many others - discovered that Mail is 'less than perfect' on OS X Lion, e.g 8 out 10 times when I try to search Mail Crashes.
This happend on My 2 weeks old IMac 27", with a clean installation of Lion.
The mail was originally send from my MacBook Pro, I opened the mail on the Macbook Pro, and it works (MacBook Pro also runns OS X Lion, but a 'upgraded' version, not clean installation)
Any hints or suggestion on what happened to my attachments?
    Kind regards
    Steen

I am having the exact same problem.  I have an IMAP account and a rather large Excel attachment is getting corrupted.  I tried rebuilding the mailbox countless times to no avail.  Help.....

  • Some HTML emails get corrupted in Mail.app

I get a lot of HTML emails and just occasionally Mail.app seems to mangle the headers and think the mail is plain text, which means the attachments are useless. I then have to resort to Thunderbird to read the email.
The corrupted emails usually start as follows:
    --Boundary-00=_T7P340MWKGMMYJ0CCJD0
    Content-Type: Multipart/Alternative; boundary="Boundary-00=_Z7P340MWKGMMYJ0CCJD0"
    --Boundary-00=_Z7P340MWKGMMYJ0CCJD0
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Anyone any ideas what is going wrong or how I might stop this from happening?
    John

    Hi Shang_Li,
Unless you pay for the Hotmail premium account, the default mail access for Hotmail is POP3. By default when you "pop" a message off the mail server it removes that message from the server. That's why the messages are missing from the web interface. When you configure POP you have the option to leave a copy on the server for a specific period of time.
Here's a good URL that explains the process - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3228
If you don't want mail to be removed off the server you can just uncheck the box that's mentioned in the above article. Or if you do want to have messages removed you can specify how long they're kept on the server (viewable on the web) after you access them in Mail.

  • Icloud is corrupting incoming mail attachments

For the past week or so email attachments sent to me at my .me or .icloud email address is being corrupted.  This includes .xls .pdf .doc .jog and .ppt files.  I am using Outlook 2013 but don't think it is the culprit...uninstalled and reloaded it.  Doesn't help to detach files.  Have unistalled and reloaded latest icloud control panel...no luck.  Doesn't seem to corrupt very small files.  I need some advice please.

Hi guys, I have a weird problem and have searched but not found an answer.
Occasional emails that arrive on my Mac Pro or MacBook Pro Mail 5.2 apear coorupted on one device, but not on the other, and never on my iPhone.
the corruption displays itself as a jpg image that is grey on one section, and it also appears on the downloaded attactment as well as the remotly loaded image in the email itself.  Whilst this email may be corrupt on my desktop, its fine on my laptop, and visa vera on other emails.  The iphone mail always loads it right.
Im on imap email via an exchange server, I have rebuilt the email and it still tends to occur, I note it doesnt not happen on my icloud email.
Is there a way to force an individual email to reload the attachments?

  • Power failure corrupted my Mail program - H E L P !!!

I just went through a power failure. The Mac OS has always survived nicely in the dozens of times I've experienced such things before. However, this time Mail got totally melted.
When relaunching the other programs I was running ( Keynote, Pages, Safari, etc. ), the only thing I lost was any unsaved work in an open file. With Mail, it ate my whole list of e-mail accounts (which I have several).
When I relaunched Mail, it went through the account set-up for my main account. When Mail finally opened, the only account was that one and non of the history of other accounts was anywhere to be found.
Fortunately, I am running +Time Machine+. The big question is, What files do I move where to restore the proper account settings and files for Mail?
(Please only respond if you have THE answer — I'm just a bit panicked at the moment and don't want to screw anything else up trying helpful hints that might make things worse.)

This is not THE answer! But it's a harmless check you can make to ease the panic (I had a problem with upgrade from Tiger to Leopard where all my email accounts and mailboxes were showing fine, but there was nothing in them!).
Go to ~user/Library/Mail, and have a peek into some of your email account folders - assuming they are there of course, which will be your first sigh of relief. Then check out the size of the INBOX.mbox in each account - if all your messages are there, those should all be a reasonable size, depending how many messages you had in them.
Then you can relax a bit. Your messages will be there, it's just a matter of how you get Mail to 'see' them, which is where my expertise runs out, I'm afraid.

  • Problems with attachments going corrupt from Mail in the dock when sending?

I have had my Mac G5 Tower at home now for a couple of years now and have always had a problem with sending attachments to any one from my .mac account with mail in the dock.
The error massage people would tell they were getting from the files that I attached were (The file is damaged and cold not be repaired). I also tried emailing the same attachment to my self and got the same results.
I always got around this at home by emailing the attachments via web .mac account from apple’s web site this is not an ideal solution.
Using the same .mac account and mail from the dock on my Mac at work no problems at all.
I thought by upgrading from panther to tiger that this would help, I am still having the same trouble.
    Can anyone out there help.
    Thanks

Thank you Justin for your response.  Sorry for the delay in responding.   I have been unable to log in to my forum account since the first time even though I'd verified my user name, reset the password (everything I could think of).   Many hours (literally) on hold with almost every support department at Verizon hasn't resolved the login problem...so I've created a new username with my other email address.   I know that creating a new account probably isn't the kosher solution, but my frustration level with Verizon phone suport on this has gone over the top as no one department seems to claim any knowledge of how to help with forum issues and passes me off to somewhere else.
I am using IE 7.0.   I only have the problem when I am viewing my emails via the Verizon webmail.  When I download the emails to Outlook on my desktop, there are no problems.   In webmail, if I have an email showing in the preview pane that has links and I click on that email (in the preview pane), the linked website opens and I can't close it or do anything else.   I can't even switch to viewing other emails in my inbox in the preview pane.      I can right click on the email showing in the preview pane and select to open in a new window, but if I left click the link activates right there in the preview pane.

  • Sudden corruption of Mail 2.1.1

I have been using Entourage 11.2.5 as my email app. I decided to try the Mac Mail because Entourage is slow. I configured my accounts and was adding some finishing touches (no external apps) in preferences when the application basically stopped functioning. I force quit, tried restarting the machine, zapped the PRAM - nothing seems to correct the problem. There are three major issues I know about:
    1. I can not open the viewer window.
    2. Once I open Mail, I have to force quit.
    3. When I open the message viewer, I get a blank window that won't close.
I did not import anything from Entourage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. In the Finder, go to /Applications/, and try to open Mail by double-clicking on it. Look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
In the meanwhile, take a look at the following article, in case this is a font issue:

  • Corrupted attachments in Mail.app connecting to an IMAP server

    Hi,
I'm using Mail.app to connect to our local IMAP server (over SSL). For a long while, I've had problems with large attachments being corrupted when I open a message in Mail. If I view the same message in our webmail client (which also talks to the IMAP server), the attachments are uncorrupted.
If I save a message as source and decode using a mime64 decoding tool, the attachments are corrupted in the same way as from within mail. This is most clearly visible when the attachment is a large jpeg.
If I remove the locally cached messages by deleting the /Library/Mail/IMAP-xxxxx folder, then re-download all the messages, the attachments will be often corrupted in a different position in the image.
Using another IMAP mail client (Thunderbird) on the same machine to connect to the same IMAP server shows no corruption in the same messages which are corrupted in Mail.app.
I can't say whether this problem was introduced with Tiger, but it has persisted for a long time. This problem is only for INCOMING attachments; I have had no problems with corruption in the attachments I send to others.
Other Tiger Mail.app users in the building have the same issue. Any suggestions to identify and fix this problem will be greatly appreciated. It's possible it's bug in Mail, and I would be happy to contribute any information or perform any testing required to fix it.

The right way of doing that would be rebuilding the
mailbox, i.e. select it and do Mailbox >
Rebuild. Does that make a difference?
Rebuilding the mailbox — no difference. The attachments are corrupted at a different position in the image, but still corrupted.
Another thing to try would be trashing the Mail
cache, i.e., quit Mail, in the Finder go to
Trashing the Mail Cache — no difference. The attachments are not re-downloaded from the server, and so the position of the corruption in the image doesn't change.
What happens if you move or copy the message to a
local "On My Mac" mailbox, and open the local copy
    instead?
The local copy then has corrupted attachments.
    /Library/StartupItems/
    Empty.
    /Library/InputManagers/
    SIMBL
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    Empty.
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    Empty.
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
    GPGMail
    Mail.appetizer
A quick test — disabling these plug-in components has no effect on the corrupted messages, even after re-building the mailbox in question.
I should point out again that it's not just my machine that's affected by this problem. I verified today that other users of the same server are also affected. This isn't likely to be caused by a quirky configuration on my machine.
Also, open System Preferences, and go to
Accounts > Login Items. What do you see
    there?
    LittleSnitchDaemon
    iCalAlarmScheduler
    iCal
    Mail
    SmartReporter
    LiteSwitchX
    MicrosoftMouseHelper
    MouseLocatorAgent
    Skype
    Last.fm
    Renicer
The items below the line have been added recently, and the problem was definitely there before hand.

  • Word 2004 corrupts Mail and hard drive

I believe that Word 2004 is corrupting my mail accounts as well as my hard drive. Here is the senario: Mail is up and running, you click on Word and the spinning rainbow ball comes up and locks up the computer so that you have to manually shut the computer down. Upon restarting the computer Mail deletes our ATT mail accounts but automatically installs our .mac mail account which was previously not set up in Mail. Next when I try to access Word the computer freezes and I must manually shut the computer down again and upon startup only the gray screen with the Apple logo is as far as the computer goes. Next I insert the Leopard installation disk and using Disk Utility I perform "Verify Disk" but get this error message "Incorrect number of thread records". Repair disk is unable to fix error so I must erase the hard drive and reinstall Leopard. Luckily Time Machine has worked great. I am wondering if anyone has had such severe problems using Word with Leopard? My version of Word and Excel worked fine before the Leopard installation. Thanks for any input.

Typically, yes. Erasing the drive should "fix" a directory problem simply because the directory is what gets erased. If you really want to insure complete obliteration of all data on the drive, you need to "overwrite" the drive. Disk Utility provides a way to do this by selecting the "Write zeros" option which completely overwrites the drive with (what else?) zeros. I am a true believer in this because, even though it's supposed to be technically impossible, I have had experiences in which a "fresh" installation had settings already "in place" that could only have come from existing data on a supposedly erased drive. So anytime I get to the point where I need to completely erase a drive, I always use the write zeros option.
