Corruption of archived logs after redo resizing - URGENT
Hello all,
We have a RAC 9i 2-node DB, running on RHEL 3 machines.
We resized our redo logs from 100M to 1G to avoid "Can not allocate log, archival required" messages.
The operation was successful, but now we are facing problems with the ext3 filesystem holding the archived logs.
Each node has its own arc location, mounted only once.
When we run "ls" in the arc destination, we get "ls: Input/output error" messages.
RMAN complains also about corrupted arcvhived logs.
The day before Yesterday we reformatted one arc destination, and today the messages appeared in the other one.
Do you have any suggestion?

Did the problem occur right after increasing the log size? Then the first thing to do would be to decrease the log size, but add more log groups to fix the "Can not allocate..." problem.
If "ls" doesn't work, your file system is stuffed.Reformat the archive dest and do simple file copies to verify the integrity, before putting the archive logs back on.
That's just for starters...

After db2 backup archive log remains as it is.is there setting to remove archive logs after database backup.DAS is not installed.

If the archvied logs are not required, ie they are not required for restore
you can remove them.
You can check this is by running
db2 list history all for db <sid>
The above command will give you a detailed overview of the backup
history and what logs were archived and what logs were included or needed for restore of backups.
If they are no longer needed for a restore, then it is safe to remove them.

Archive logging, single redo log = archivelog?
We are running archive log mode. I had always assumed when a redolog was full, it was written to a new archivelog file and that was it.
However, our archivelog files are 200K and our redolog files are 20K... meaning you could fit 10 redologs into a single archivelog file.
We have 2 groups (1 and 2) and each has 5 members redo01-05.

Note that the "next" group is not the "sequential next" - i.e. not mandatorilly 5 after 4 then 1 after 5.
We use multiple GROUPs mainly because of archiving and redo necessity for instance crash recovery.
We use multiple (multiplexed) group MEMBERS because of hardware failure risk.
There's too much to tell straight away. You should rush for the manual (http://tahiti.oracle.com), it's all explained in the Conceps and Admin books.

I read many thing on this topic but I didn't find the good answer.
I performed a cold backup each sunday.
My database is in ARCHIVE LOG mode.
Is it possible to restore ARCHIVE LOG files after restoring COLD backup?
Sunday : cold backup
Monday : new archive log have been created since cold backup
Tuesday : same as Monday
Wednesday : I would like to restore to Monday 22:00 for example
Can I restore cold backup + apply archive log until Monday 22:00 ?

My archive area got full, I moved some archived logs to another destination. My main script to backup archive log raised a error informing that some files were missing, so I issued a crosscheck archivelog all command.
I realized that I did something insane and is there any way to fix it? I mean, how could I backup the missed sequence? Because I'll need to send them to a tape and also register the files in the RMAN's catalog.

after searching on Google and from Metalink (note 30866.1 and 7197445.8 ) I find out that this is the known issue for 10g and below versions, our's is 11.2.0.3,

I have 2 identical Database from day 1 (1 Prod and 1 Dev). Prod db runs in archive mode
which produces a number of archived logs after a few hours.
Can I use rman to apply these archived log to the Dev instance to get a copy of the Prod DB? I've copied all *.arc files rom
Prod back to Oracle\oradata\devdb directory
1. rman target internal/<passwd> nocatalog
2. shutdown normal;
3. startup mount pfile=init.ora
4. run {

I am getting an error saying

The quick answer is no. But there are several things to know.
1. Production Database in archive mode.
2. Develpment database in no archive mode?
You cannot apply the redo log of (1) to (2) because the SCN (sequence change number) and won't be the same in the both databases. Means more, except if you clone the databases, the control files could be different so remember that redo-logs are binaries, not just a clear-text script.
Other think to know is that in development you can modify, delete apppend data/tables/datafiles/tablespaces.. how can synchronize this with the production? (this situation can be the same production vs development).
If you have a standby database you can do something like you wish, but not identical (tell me and I will explain my little knowledge about it ;)
So you must first know what do you wanna keep in development database, if you just want to have a daily-mirror and can lost production data the best option is to backup production database with RMAN (full, incremental...) in development and use it to replicate another instance every day. Well I have some troubles replicating with RMAN, but people here say it's possible ;)
If you want to keep the same data, you can use an incremental data export (exp utility) and import modified data to development.

Urgent: Huge diff in total redo log size and archive log size

I have a concern regarding size of redo log and archive log generated.
Is the equation below is correct?
total size of redo generated by all sessions = total size of archive log files generated
I am experiencing a situation where when I look at the total size of redo generated by all the sessions and the size of archive logs generated, there is huge difference.
My total all session redo log size is 780MB where my archive log directory size has consumed 23GB.
Before i start measuring i cleared up archive directory and started to monitor from a specific time.

Now, total sum of REDO_SIZE (B.VALUE) this is far less than archive log size. This at time when no other user is logged in except myself.
Is there anything wrong with query for collecting redo information or there are some hidden process which doesnt provide redo information on session basis.
I have seen the similar implementation as above at many sites.
Kindly provide a mechanism where I can trace which user is generated how much redo (or archive log) on a session basis. I want to track which all user/process are causing high redo to generate.
If I didnt find a solution I would raise a SR with Oracle.

[V]You can query v$sess_io, column block_changes to find out which session generating how much redo.
The following query gives you the session redo statistics:
select a.sid,b.name,sum(a.value) from v$sesstat a,v$statname b
where a.statistic# = b.statistic#
and b.name like '%redo%'
and a.value > 0
group by a.sid,b.name
If you want, you can only look for redo size for all the current sessions.

Finished restore at 03-SEP-09now i have two backup one is full database backup which will not work another is backup of all archivelog upto sequence 87 i think it should work.
but rman is choosing full database backup for restore.
so i need to force rman to choose archivelog backups for restore but don't know how to do it. please suggest.
