Counter won't reset

Hey all,
The iChat icon on my dock won't reset its numbers when I click on it, so it keeps accumulating. I tried Software Updates but this has been a problem for months. It usually doesn't bother me much, but sometimes I don't know when people have IMed me, and if I have a lot of chats up, I have to go through each one and it gets rather annoying.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thank you!

Hi,
Welcome to the    Discussions
There are a couple of possibles.
1)
In the File Menu > Go to Chat Room
Does this list any Auto Join rooms ?
In the General Section of the iChat Preferences is it also NOT set to "When I iChat is Quit, Set Status to Off Line" (it means you are not Logged Out)
If you also used the Red Button to close the Chatroom Window iChat may mistakenly think the window is Hidden rather than the Chat Ended.
Actions.
Deselect any Auto Join Rooms.
Set When iChat is Quit, Se the Status to Off Line.
Quit iChat.
Also Quit any other possible Login via Phone, AIM Express, other IM client.
Reopen iChat.
Go to Window Menu.
Apart from the Buddy List(s), is any other window listed at the bottom of the menu ?
2)
Really a variant on the above.
In iChat 4 and 5 you can link several Chat Windows together (Collect Chats in one Window).
It is possible to add a Chat room as well as 1-1 chats to this and you may have a Hidden Chat again.
It tends to be the Auto Join to Chat rooms that does it.
If the above does not work try deleting com.apple.ichat.plist (Your Home Folder/Library/Preferences) and restart iChat.
This should lose references to old chatrooms. (You may have to reset anything in the ichat Preferences that is not set to Default.)

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Ipod 1st generation click wheel not responding - won't reset - apple icon

My ipod won't reset or show up in itunes when connected.  Apple icon seems to be frozen on screen.  How can I reset it?  Help!

This is really the 1st gen iPod from 2001, with a non-touch non-click wheel that physically turns, and connects with a FireWire cable?
Make sure the Hold switch is not in the ON position?
The older iPods did a reset differently from more recent iPod that have a click wheel.  Be sure you are following the appropriate reset steps in this document, based on the actual iPod model.

If it's a 1st gen iPod, it would be How to reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector).  The buttons to press and hold are different from later iPods.

I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out. I just bought a new iPod 5th Generation (30gb with video). For some reason, it froze and won't reset. I've tried to do what apple.com says (hold menu and play buttons), but it doesn't work. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks a lot

Thank you for your help, although that didn't seem to do anything either. It just started working again today, yay!
But after trying endlessly lots of things I finally gave up and just let it sit, it was on for awhile until the battery totally drained. I had forgotten about it and today I went to plug it in to charge the battery so I could try another round of possible solutions. I plugged in the usb cable, at first it went to the black screen with the logo. Then as I was about to walk away 10 seconds later I saw the screen light up then the menu appeared. I don't know what was wrong but it seems totally find now. So I don't know what I did or what happened but it seems to be working with no problems again.

To restore your iPhone, connect it to iTunes and hold down the Power/Sleep button simultaneously with the Home button. Keep both buttons pressed down until your iPhone powers off. When your iPhone turns off, release the Power/Sleep button, but keep the Home button depressed until iTunes detects the iPhone (it should detect restore mode).
Once iTunes detects your iPhone in restore mode, hit the “Restore” button to get your crashed out iPhone back to working order.

  • My iphone 4s has a box around one of the icons and i have to double click on an icon to get anything to work and it won't reset either?

I'm no sure what to do with my phone.  I have an iphone 4s that has an outlined box around whatever icon i touch.  It won't reset either.  It also is working slow too.  I have to double click on whatever icon i'm trying to use just to get it to work.

Answered in another thread. Probably you have Voice-Over activated in the Settings...general...Accessibility section.
Triple-click your Home button to toggle it off agin maybe?

  • Counter on iweb reset itself and is now not working anymore

My counter on iweb reset itself to 0 somehow, and now it's stuck on 0 on the bunch of the pages. What happened and how can I fix this? I tried removing the counter and putting it back, but that didn't work. Thanks!

Sometimes .Mac counters freeze up periodically. I saw two different posts recently about people not being able to use the search feature and another about missing comments, so maybe .Mac features are having some issues at the moment?
You might try "Publish ALL to .Mac" in the file menu, however this might cause them to reset anyway, I am not sure...

  • AE won't reset, light is steady yellow, flashes green every so often

My AE won't reset... I've tried soft, hard, and factory default resets. All it does is come back on with a steady yellow light that eventually turns green for a second, then goes back to steady yellow forever. If i let it sit unplugged for a long time, I can get it to do a reset, but once i restart it after changing the settings, it starts the problem all over again.
    Anybody got a clue???

Marc, I can't give you any firm advice except to carry around the MagSafe adapter with you for a while.
If the battery charge percentage isn't dropping while you are using the computer plugged in, it seems the computer is properly running off the power adapter.
The display of percentage charge may or may not be correct. It's possible that all is OK and that the battery is good and can be recharged. Remember that a battery is a disposable item, with a finite number of charge cycles. You can check the capacity of the battery from About This Mac > More Info > Hardware > Power.
The only way you are going to find out for sure is to run the computer off battery power, perhaps with another calibration cycle.
If you subsequently find that the battery, after being discharged, won't charge then there's a problem. Time to call Apple.

  • DHCP Client Table won't reset

    Hi,
I am rearranging my router settings, mostly my DHCP Clients, but i noticed the DHCP Client Table won't reset itself and therefore i can't add new static IP's anymore for a specific pc or printserver.
    I have a Linksys wireless router WRT54GC.
The error which i receive after trying is "Error: This entry already exists in the Reserved PC DHCP Client Table."
Is this a known bug and is there a way to fix this/clean up the Client Table? Without resetting my modem ofcourse.
    Thanks in advance

I can't get in my iPod and it won't reset unless i put in my pass code which i don't know what should i do ?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • Ipod mini won't reset

My Ipod mini won't reset. Help!

    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. BTW, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
    9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.

  • Why won't my iPhone won't reset.

I have paid cellphone provider to unlock my old iPhone, I think it's a 4S, so that I can give it to my son.  I have followed the instructions they have provided me but the phone won't reset. After I enter my Apple ID which I know is correct because I used it to log in here and I use it all the time, I get a screen that says "Verification has failed -- timed out."  Does anyone know why this would be happening?
Here are the instructions I am following, provided by my cell phone provider who unlocked the phone from their end today:
Start by connecting your Iphone to Itunes on your desktop computer, you will see the “name” of your iPhone pop-up under “Devices”. Right click on the name of your device and select “Backup”.Once backed up, use your Iphone and go under “Settings” application. Under “Settings”, choose “General” and then “Reset”. Once in “Reset” you need to select “Erase All Contents and Settings” which will give you a prompt with a button marked “Erase Iphone”, which by clicking will complete the hard reset. The phone will power cycle and bring your Iphone back to factory state.

Was the iPhone jailbroken or modified to work with other thant the original
    wireless provider?
Were any of the beta versions of iOS 7 installed on the iPhone previous to the reset?
