i added custom album art with iTunes, and it's acting all glitchy. i don't really know how to explain. Here's some screenshots

Cover flow is completely bugged out and won't display correctly

Awhile back, one of my displays which held a maximized iTunes window was accidentally unplugged, which somehow caused the iTunes window to shrink beyond its allowed limits. Ever since, I've had this problem when I try to use cover flow on the Music or iTunes DJ sections (many playlists were affected too, but I just recreated them to fix it):

The mouse can't interact with the glitched cover flow, which is to say I'm unable to click on it or try to resize it because the mouse clicks whatever is hidden behind it instead.
This problem has followed me across installations, even moving from XP to Win7 x64, and from iTunes 8 to iTunes 9.
When migrating my installation, I copied these files from \Documents and Settings\[my username]\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\:
- iTunes Library Extras.itdb
- iTunes Library Genius.itdb
- iTunes Library.itl
- iTunes Music Library.xml
- \Album Artwork
- \iPod Games
Other than that, the installation was brand new.
How the heck can I fix this glitch without having to completely recreate my library?

Nope.
Having created an empty library it will also have nuked the *iTunes Library.xml* file (unless you backed this up too). Close iTunes and rename the new .itl as *iTunes Library (Empty).itl*. Now copy your original itl file (so you'll have a backup later) and call the copy *iTunes Library.itl*. Start iTunes and let it rebuild the XML so that it contains your entire library. Put your iTunes folder in details mode and check the last modified date for the .xml file over a few minutes until it stops being updated. Close iTunes and let it complete the saving of files. Now rename *iTunes Library.itl* as *iTunes Library (Old).itl*, rename *iTunes Library.xml* as *iTunes Library (Old).xml*, then rename *iTunes Library (Empty).itl* as *iTunes Library.itl*. Start iTunes and use *Library > Import Playlist* to import *iTunes Library (Old).xml*. This should bring back your library with any meta-data that is exported to the XML. Whether this includes all the details such as ratings, playcounts, date added or modified that you might want or need is another matter - you have to try it to find out. If you're not happy just restore the old .itl file.

Strange sparkling graphics glitch in finder cover flow view!

Hi there,
Recently my finder cover flow view has been displaying what can be described as 'sparkling' effects around the folders/icons when i move from one file to another (sparkling stops when movement of icons does). The sparkling effect can be described as small white dots flashing then disappearing at random points on the black background of the cover flow view. This does not happen all the time and seems to be more prevalent when there different icons next to one another. just wondered if anyone else is having this issue and if anyone can offer me some advise? Thanks.

Cover Flow, Finder, Get Info icon dilemma

I was using Cover Flow to look at some photos. I clicked Cmd-I to Get Info in order to use the drop down menu there to change the default application to open one of the images from Preview to Photoshop. Once I did this the photo no longer displayed in Cover Flow. What I saw instead was a default jpeg icon. The icon of the image also changed in the Finder from an icon of the actual image to a default jpeg icon.
Seems like there are some glitches here. Can anybody duplicate this problem. Is there a known fix? Thanks.

Well, that is certainly strange! I tried it and sure enough I got exactly the same results. Which is truly weird because I have many Photoshop jpegs that do not have custom icons, and they display an icon in Finder perfectly well. And, of course, so do generic jpegs. But if you change a generic jpeg to open in Photoshop Finder stops drawing the icon. Furthermore, when I changed it back to open in Preview it did not recover--it continued to display the generic Photoshop jpec icon. Nothing I did would make Finder display a custom icon for the file. I even quit and relaunched Finder to no avail. The only thing that worked was to use my Automator workflow to give it a custom icon. Looks like a bug to me. Send feedback to Apple:

Cover Flow on Windows XP not working, any suggestions?

I recently had a problem with my HP computer (certainly not the first) and had to recover it using recovery disks. Of course I lost everything and when I reinstalled iTunes, the cover flow option wasn't available. I have tried looking everywhere and performing the nesscessary steps to get it to work. It did work before my computer had to be restored. I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the latest updates. I checked the bit-rate, I guess you could call it and is at 32-bit. I turned up the hardware acceleration to full (it was already up there) and I downloaded a version of DirectX and it still does not work. If someone could help me out it would be much appreciated. I am technology-challenged.

Try checking your ipod settings, i had an itunes one change on its own once. Go to settings, then general, then rotate. If it says "off", then just hit the center button. If it says "cover flow", then see if it's the orientation sensor by going to the "maze" game if you have it to test it. The circle thing on the menu will probably glitch up/not move if it's the orientation sensor. If it responds normally (rolls/slides in the direction you tip the ipod), then i'm not sure. Try calling their customer service line at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) if that happens. Also, if you are walking w/ it with the hold switch off, then it may me that your walking is shaking it enough to shuffle it. That's my theory, anyway.
BTW, are you're sure the ipod's not too flat for the sensor to register the rotation? I've done that before. It'll register at about a 45 degree angle.

Can't get Cover Flow to keep previous window settings, help?

I'm sure that there is some easy quick fix to this but I couldn't find it anywhere doing various web searches. Anyway, I'm new to Snow Leopard and I've noticed a very irritating difference/glitch/whatever between it and Leopard.
I am a graphics guy and I always used Cover Flow in Finder to search through my documents and files and heap of images. The old Cover Flow view always opened new windows to the size and proportions (image vs. text) as my previous window(s). In this new Snow Leopard that I installed, whenever I open a new Finder window in Cover Flow it gives me this huge 90% image view with just this small 10% file texts at the bottom of the window. Each time I have to click and drag the divider bar back up to the 50% line. If I click on a file, again, the view jumps to this flippin' huge image view and I have to drag the divider back up to the middle.
Is there anyway to get Finder to be like in the old Leopard where it remembers that I want Cover Flow to always be a 50/50 split between seeing the images and the file names? Its driving me crazy. I would assume there is just some little button or something that I am missing. Thanks.

I gave that a try and it "kinda" works but doesn't really solve the annoyance. If you resize it again in the slightest or shift the divider bar, the whole thing jumps back to the 90/10 view. Why!?!?! Does that not drive anyone else insane?
Thanks for the duct tape fix though Captfred. I can at least use that in the mean time. I really hope they fix that problem with the next update. It worked just fine before, but now it makes cover flow somewhat unusable.

My cover flow on my ipod stopped working when i plugged in ipod. Have the covers on itunes just not ipod. Also songs skip to next song sometimes also. Could be any song I never know. Seems since i upgraded to new itunes version stuff has been going wrong.

Blurry Scroll Bar in Cover Flow. Help?

Well... i've had my new macbook for about 3 weeks. have about 100 songs in there so far. on itunes. today my friend sent me mp3 files and the moment i got them i put them in itunes. the problem is i discovered that after putting the songs on itunes, the scroll bar on the cover flow became blurry.
i quit itunes and started it again and the scroll bar was normal again. but then i went into the itunes store and came back to my music, in cover flow and the scroll bar was blurry again.
what does this mean? VIRUS?
obviously something is not steady here. any words? thanks.

This definitely isn't a show-stopper, but it is annoying (Don't fret -- its not a virus. Nor does it have anything to do with your Music collection.). I have the same glitch with Cover Flow. I've found its relatively easy to (temporarily) fix: all you need to do is resize the iTunes window (by just 1 pixel will do).
Hopefully this is more permanently fixed in a future version of iTunes.
For those who are wondering what I'm talking about, when I open iTunes in Cover Flow mode the horizontal scroll bar (slider) is nice and crisp. However, if I switch to another application, or simply click into another section of iTunes (like Movies, or the iTunes Store) and then click back to my Library of Music, the Cover Flow horizontal scroll bar often appears fuzzy, or blurry. Resizing the iTunes window temporarily fixes the glitch (at least, until I switch sections again).

Cover Flow/Album Art Errors

This problem has carried over from firmware 2.1. My album art is all messed up. I'll add album on one album but it will show up on two albums, or album are won't show at all. Weird random glitches like that. I also manually manage my music. Any ideas on how I can fix these problems so cover flow works properly?

Cover Flow Freeze

This problem is frustrating (is there any other kind?). When I use the cool, 3D, Cover Flow feature and flip through the cover art, the system freezes. The cursor doesn't move....nothing. It works for about 5 seconds until the system realizes that I'm liking it, and then, freezes. Bitc--!. Anyway, the only option is to Power Off and start again. It's acting like a device conflict, but it isn't a device....Is it a JAVA issue? Help? Although I can live without the flow feature, I am still haunted by the "filename character limit" on importing MP3 files into the system. I still haven't seen a fix for this but maybe I haven't dug the full six-feet to get to it. Thanques for glistening.

The same thing (sort-of) is happening to me and I need help!!!! I got the Ipod nano-chromatic (4th generation) for Christmas. My Ipod has been working fine until today!! Whenever i want to view 'Cover Flow' by turning the Ipod, my Ipod freezes! I hold down the Center and the Menu button and then it has a glitch but it's then fine. Once I listen to a song the song will keep playing but i notice my screen freezes, again! I cannot pause the song or go to the menu, none of the buttons work because it is frozen and they probably locked somehow. Once again I hold down the center button and the menu button and it just turns off, but will turn on again. Does anyone know why it's doing this!?!?!? It's been fine until today and I don't know what to do. Do you think Apple could help me with this? Or can i fix it myself? It's fine until i turn it 90 degrees and I am having the same problem. Cover flow image all pixelate. How can I fix it?

in coverflow, some of the graphics ok the album cover are pixelatwd and mosaic looking. It's about every third of fourth album cover. In non-cover flow view they are all fine. What could have caused this and how can I fix it? In iTunes the graphics are fine.

Work through the usual 5 R's of troubleshooting.

A restore of the device in iTunes usually rules out any possibility of a software glitch as it reloads the iPod with a fresh version of the iPod's software. One last thing you can try doing is letting the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore in iTunes once more.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display or its connection to the iPod's logic board. You'll need to pay to have your iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party repair service.

All artwork is blacked out on cover flow

i have tried reinstalling itunes, repairing and removing artwork but on cover flow the artwork doesnt appear. although it does on the left sidebar. please can someone explain whats happening? this has only happened since i installed itunes on this laptop and ive never had the problem before. using an IBM thinkpad laptop.

Can not properly view cover flow in full screen in external display

My mac is the new Mac book pro 15.4 inch screen and I connect my mac pro to external display e.g. Samsung LCD monitor 24 inches.
The bug is that I can not PROPERLY view full screen (in external display) for some application e.g. iTunes, and Front Row.
- When I use iTunes, I can not properly view Cover Flow view in full screen (in the external display screen) except the case of mirror display.
- For Front Row, I can not view full screen in external display but only my mac display.
However, for other DVD or VDO players, I can view movie on external display in full screen and I still be able to do other works on my mac screen.
Please let me know how to solve it.

Is there a way of making my iPod's "cover flow" sort in the same way the software can . Artist -- Album by Year . It only seems to do Artist -- by Alphabetical Album . I want it look like it does on the PC .

Is there a way to make the "cover flow" on the iPod match the sort style that I use on the software . I go with Artist -- Album by Release Year . But the ipod seems to only do Artist -- Alphabetical by Album , and then there are a handful of albums oddly out of place . Can it be done ?

Ottonomy, here's what to do.
Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the iPhone's playlist in an iTunes window. Copy/Paste the entire playlist into a new(!) playlist in iTunes, not on your iPhone. Then resort the playlist. After you sort it, Copy/Paste it to a new(!) playlist on your iPhone. Now delete the old playlist on your iPhone and rename the new playlist the name you want it to be (probably the same name as the old playlist).
The downside to this method is that you have to do it every time you add a song to the playlist. Unfortunately, I don't think there's another way.
