Cover Flow viewing of Events in iPhoto

When I first used iPhoto in my new iMac, I was able to browse the photos in the Events source of iPhoto with a view which was like the CoverFlow view in the Finder. Now that ability is gone. How can I get it back? (This is in iPhoto '08, version 7.1.3(364). It only worked in the Events, not in other source categories.
Also, when the double-click option is set for "magnification", a double-click seems to do nothing to photos in the Event. Are these two questions related to a similar cause?

I tried that, and it didn't help. I am wondering if the viewing mode which I liked, the "Cover Flow" similar to in the Finder, was not supposed to be a part of iPhoto '08, or purposely omitted in an update in the past week or so. Do others have this capability in iPhoto 8? If so, how is it supposed to be activated? I am new enough to this computer system, that I am never sure if it is user error or an application bug or just plain is something I want that the application is not intended to do. In this case, I KNOW that it worked in the recent past. I just don't know why it changed or how to correct it now.

  • Thumbnails in cover flow view are blurry

For some reason my main user account refuses to refresh its thumbnails in the Finder's Cover Flow view. The same file views fine in my Test user account. Merely copying/moving the file to a different folder or burning it the file directly to a cd does not remedy the problem.
However, the same file views fine if I burn it to a CD using iPhoto and then re-import it.
A similar problem began for me in iPhoto around the same time I got my new Aluminum iMac 24". I don't remember exactly when though. My iPhoto thumbnails started switching at their own will. A photo would get represented by an incorrect thumbnail. However, if I resized the thumbnail to a larger size it would snap to the correct thumbnail. I have several thousand photos in iPhoto and on my computer, so I was used to viewing thumbnails at the smaller magnifications. I feel that enlarging the the thumbnails to a larger magnification forces my iPhoto to create a new thumbnail.
Apple Tech Support on numerous occasions has run me through the full painful protocol of troubleshooting - up to being referred to a product specialist who finally concedes that I need to purge all of my images and just reimport and reorganize EVERYTHING.
THERE MUST BE a file/folder somewhere on my Mac holding a cache of these thumbnails that just refuses to refresh itself. PLEASE SHOW MERCY APPLE and MR. JOBS, please tell me where I can find the folder that needs to be refreshed.

Off and on I have the same problem with not seeing the image thumbnails in cover flow.
When this happens, I force quit the finder (commandoptionesc) and then I see the thumbnails.
Don't have a clue why this method works but it does for me!

Keynote is an screen based presentation application
Pages is a page layout application for print output
Coverflow is a viewing option of the finder to look at the contents of a folder
To create a slideshow of your images, open Keynote and drag and drop images from a folder into the Navigator pane then press the play button

  • Can Cover Flow view be limited to playback of only one album at a time?

    Hi all,
I've been using the Cover Flow view in my iTunes Library more and more lately (after years of suffering owning a slow machine). But there has been a question regarding playback that has been slightly nagging me for a little while. I couldn't come up with effective search results, so I'll pose the question to the masses.
Cover Flow playback (by default) seems limited to playing through one album and jumping straight into the next album in the Library without stopping. Scroll through the track listing in the lower screen and you'll notice that iTunes lists every track from every album in your Library.
(picture one of those digital bar jukeboxes and an unlimited bankroll...)
Conversely, when clicking the album's title in the default List view, iTunes will only play the tracks in that particular album's playlist, and stop playback once this is finished. I have grown used to this option when desiring to fall asleep to one particular album only... and not the 476 albums which follow it.
Is there a workaround in place to emulate this "List View" playback behavior for Cover Flow playback?
Just curious... if not, it isn't the end of the world - List View will still continue to serve its specific purpose for my needs.
I just have a thirst for knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Jeremy,
Conversely, when clicking the album's title in the default List view, iTunes will only play the tracks in that particular album's playlist, and stop playback once this is finished.
I'm not sure I follow you here — if I click a track in list view, iTunes always goes on to the next track when it's over (assuming Shuffle is off). If that's the next track on an album, great, but when I come to the end of an album it moves on to the next one.
Or are you talking about the Browser? Selecting an album in the Album browser pane will indeed produce the results you're describing, since the rest of your library will be excluded.
Yes that's correct - my apologies, I was at work at the time and was working from memory. I've had the Browser enabled since day one that it almost becomes second nature.
My iTunes interface, while displaying in List mode with the Browser active, limits the upper display fields to only Artist and Album panes.
And exactly as you said, once the album finishes playing, iTunes ceases playback.
Is there a workaround in place to emulate this "List View" playback behavior for Cover Flow playback?
Yes, but it's a bit clunky: use the Search box to narrow down your library until only one album is displayed.
Yes you are correct - it is a bit clunky. But it does work for the most part, provided that the album title is unique from a song title on another album.
    Thanks for the info Jeremy!

  • View –Cover Flow View-Grey scale images

View –Cover Flow View-Grey scale images
Hi. No problems when I view my album covers in either [List View] or [Album View]. When I use [Cover Flow View] I get distorted lines, less than even a blurred image, in fact grey scale. Seems strange that iTunes can display in [List View] or [Album View], but not in [Cover Flow View]. Any ideas? Thanks.

I don't know the answer to this so a couple of suggestions, are you on the latest version of iTunes that is compatible with Windows 2000?
If not you can download it here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes732forwindows2000.html
Are you upto date with your DirectX for Windows 2000? Although looking at the MS website it doesn't look as though there is anything particularly new:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7c61e5da-8c60-43f6-9549 -65b93cf6f987&DisplayLang=en
Also check your computer manufacturer's support website to make sure you are upto date with your drivers etc.

  • Scratchy Sound When Sliding Through Covers in Cover Flow View in iTunes 8

Anyone having problems with a scratchy sound as you slide through covers in the cover flow view in iTunes 8?
Also sliding too fast has caused app to crash.

The scratchy sound seems to have come up a few times with iTunes 8 (including in a couple of other threads that I can't find right now). It seems to have picked up around the last QT update, which was coincident with the iTunes upgrade.
    (post updated)
I must admit, I didn't read closely at 7:30 in the morning, and didn't see this was just happening to OP with cover flow.
But there have been a number of people (including me) complaining of general scratchiness in iTunes 8 and AirTunes that seems traceable to the last QT update. Be glad you aren't in my situation, where it's ALWAYS scratchy.

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 locks up computer in Cover Flow view

I'm having a problem with iTunes locking up my computer when I click the right or left buttons in the cover flow view. I have updated all video and audio drivers, also DirectX but still am having the problem. I have also uninstalled and reinstlled iTunes with no luck.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

I had already loaded the latest drivers avalable from HP as well as the current BIOS Flash and the lastest from windows update.
I tried disabling the Direct X stuff as suggested in the http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706 link you left but I am still having the computer lock-up when in cover flow view.
one further question... Does every one get a digaginal line from the upper right corner to the lower left corner of the artwork in shown in the cover flow? I think this may also be related to the problem I'm having.

  • Cover flow view in finder not displaying proper

Since I updated to Mavericks my cover flow view in the finder is showing the wrong document, usually the document right before or after the one I'm actually clicked on. How do I fix this?

No, there is no preference setting available to change that.
    Best.

  • Problem w/ cover flow view

To begin I'd like to say I'm not new to message boards and even a forum moderator for the company Streetglow. I've searched for hours trying to figure out my cover flow problem and I just can't get it to organize the way I like. I've had a few problems with itunes in the past but a store rep fixed them within minutes. This is my first big problem.
A few days ago I moved my entire library (I only have music files) to my external HD. The move went flawlessly and itunes even deleted itself in my "My Music" folder. Weird but everything was fine and I checked a song's location and saw that the location lead to my external. This is where the problem starts.
Yesterday, I opened itunes and my entire library is empty. It's as if I just installed itunes on my computer.
So, I re-imported all my files again and went to my cover flow view and I have multiple album art covers for each song. But, if I go to the grid view, its exactly how I want it. Artist....Album...in ascending order. But if I switch to cover flow, I have close to 500 album art covers.
Prior to this, every time I imported a CD, I filled out the info entirely. Kept the artist, and album artist the same. Cover flow view was perfect before this incident.
Now, I have to use the grid view because it's the way I'd like but I would like to use the cover flow.
    Any ideas?

The albums will only stay grouped together when sort as *Album, Album by Artist* or *Album by Year*. Sort on Track title or Track No. and the order of covers will be pretty random. Sorting as Album by Artist groups all albums by the same alphbetically which tends to work for most people. What cues are your browsing for? Artwork, Album title, Artist, Track Name. You can use the search box to type in part of a track name if you're trying to find something specific. If you're just flicking through for something to take your fancy you might find grid mode more useful.

  • Annoying bug: Duplicate albums in the Cover Flow view

When viewing my music via the Cover Flow view (sorting Album by Artist) I frequently come across an album that appears twice. For example, I see two copies of Florence and the Machine's "Lungs" side by side. The first copy contains the first track on the album and the second copy has the remainder of the album.
My first thought was "Oh, I must have mislabeled the album field of that first track so it's being saved as a different album... maybe I put in an extra space or something." But when I view the album in the Finder, all the tracks are in the same album folder. Just to be sure, I selected all the tracks on the album in iTunes and made sure the Album info field was correct, checked the checkbox, and clicked OK. Still nothing changes.
I was finally able to fix this by selecting all the tracks on the album in iTunes and changing the Album info field to a completely NEW name (in this example "Lungs TEMP", then selecting them all again and renaming them BACK to the CORRECT name (Lungs). Ta da... Yea. Now there's only one "Lungs" album in Cover Flow.
No big deal if I only had to do this once, but this bug exists all over the place! 11,000 songs is a lot to sort through. It's almost like iTunes is caching bad data somewhere, but I don't know how to delete this cache.
Ideas? Anyone else seen this behavior?

  • Strange sparkling graphics glitch in finder cover flow view!

    Hi there,
Recently my finder cover flow view has been displaying what can be described as 'sparkling' effects around the folders/icons when i move from one file to another (sparkling stops when movement of icons does). The sparkling effect can be described as small white dots flashing then disappearing at random points on the black background of the cover flow view. This does not happen all the time and seems to be more prevalent when there different icons next to one another. just wondered if anyone else is having this issue and if anyone can offer me some advise? Thanks.

  • Changing background color in Finder Cover Flow view possible ?

    Hi,
is there any possibility to change the color of the background in the Cover Flow view of Finder ??
    Thanks for some answers

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=290539
If you search for "osx change finder window color" you will find a method (mentioned in the linked topic but not detailed) for doing this in Panther, but it may not work in Tiger. It also requires some pretty basic surgery on the OS files which is inadvisable unless you really don't care if you hose your system. Then there's Shapeshifter mentioned in the link. Again, these kind of things are trying to play with the OS at a basic level and are generally ill advised unless you really don't mind experimenting with your computer and don't care if you have to reinstall all your OS and files at some stage. They can cause unpredictable behavior with upgrades and I would not use them without regular backups.

  • Subtle Mac Humor in Finder "Cover Flow" View

    Has anyone else noticed this?
When I use the "Cover Flow" view mode when looking for other computers on my office network via the Finder, the Macs on the network are displayed as the newest anodized aluminum iMacs.
The PCs are shown as drab beige CRT monitors, with MicroSoft's "Blue Screen of Death" message on the monitors.
Someone at Apple has a wicked sense of humor.
    Gotta love it!

  • Finder crashing when in Cover Flow view

I installed Leopard a few days ago and have noticed that whenever Finder is on Cover Flow view, it crashes and restarts. This happens at least 50% of the time but only in this view mode. In the other 3 view modes, it is stable.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I have noticed that many JPG files do not show preview icons or coverflow views on my system (many do, many don't 50-50?). I tried launching a JPG file and Preview launched, but no file, then Finder crashed (desktop and all) and reloaded. I repeated this several times with different JPG files. Same thing with Quick View (caused a crash).
The other issue I've had is with the photo screen savers. They play through once then quit, or don't work at all. I can no longer use my picture catalog for a screen saver with Leopard.
I've just rebuilt my Spotlight index... maybe that will help?
    Jon.
