CQ62 Blank Screen on Startup

Hello. The other day my Compaq Presario CQ62 booted up with a blank screen: Turn laptop on-Fan starts up, white power light comes on but nothing appears on the screen.
COMPAQ-Presario CQ62-584037-001
Product Key: [Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums. I am sorry to inform you that your post has needed some editing to remove personal information.]
I have tried:
Testing the Ram Cards (have original card and 2 4GB cards that worked fine before, and have tried each in either slot)
Removing the battery and tried booting with power cord
Removing battery and cord, held down power button for 60 seconds, replugged power cord and tried booting
Connecting to an external monitor (HDMI) and tried the display keys (fn+f4)
But none have worked. I'm out of ideas. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi
No LOGO coming on start up?
Which OS, 32 or 64-bit?
Are you able to enter BIOS for testing hardware from System Diagnostics?
Pressing F8 at the startup could get into the Windows Safe Mode & do the repair.
I think you have tried almost all troubleshooting available, though you may verify them again, go through the documents below:
Computer Does not Start (Windows 7, Vista, XP)
Computer Does Not Start (Windows 8)
HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boo...
Try reseating the hard drive, if accessible, by disconnecting & reconnecting SATA cable gently and firmly after doing a hard reset, & check again.
If nothing worked, its a no-no situation may be board problem or hardware-related & you may want to Contact HP in your region.

  • Long blank screen on startup

I have a 2012 Mac Mini i7 with 10.9.2.  This morning when I rebooted, it did not work right and I just saw static on my monitor.  I manually turned off the Mac Mini then restarted it.  It boots fine now but now I have a long blank screen after the chime and before it asks for my password.  I reset my SMC and PRAM a few times but no change.  I reselected my Macintosh HD in the Startup disk too.  It is like it is timing out looking for something and then after about two minutes it goes to my Macintosh HD for the password.  So it boots up fine now except for this new long pause.  Before it would go to the password almost immediately after the chime.
Any other thoughts on what I should do?  Thanks.
    Doug

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes  after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Blank screen on startup before login

Hi, after the recent Yosemite update (10.10.3), my mac on startup, gives me the startup chime but stays in a blank screen for about 10 to 15 seconds before the apple logo shows up, followed by the login screen. This happens irrespective of whether the laptop is connected to a power adapter or not. I tried doing a safe boot and also a Disk Utility check but the problem persists. A friend of mine updated his mac a few days back and reporting the same problem to me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Exactly what is it that find to be the problem?
Open Startup Disk preferences. Select your startup volume then click on the Restart button. Then do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
If that does not help then you might try:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • After overlaying Air SDK 3.6, iOS projects show a blank screen after startup.

    Hi,
I recently overlaid Air 3.6 in Flash Builder 4.7.  My projects are using stage3D via Starling.  Using the 3.4 SDK that comes installed with FB 4.7, my projects compiled and run fine with both debug and release builds.  After overlaying the 3.6 SDK, the projects work fine in the simulator and on Android but when I run the projects on iOS I get a blank screen.  I reverted to the 3.4 SDK and my projects work fine on iOS.  But, I'd like to be able to have access to the features of 3.6, any and all suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you for you time.
    Chris

Did you follow these exact directions?
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-builder/kb/overlay-air-sdk-flash-builder.html
(They changed recently and are updated for Flash Builder 4.7)
For step 4, all you have to do is create the blank strip folder - don't need to copy the other files with 4.7 and AIR SDK 3.6.

  • [SOLVED] Login Prompt Vs Blank Screen On Startup

    Hello there,
    Problem:
      - When booting into Arch I am either presented with the Login Prompt (Yay!) or a blank back lit screen (Boo!). The pattern is completely random. I can boot up 2-3 times in a row successfully then go on a streak of blank back lit screens and am forced to constantly reboot until I get it to work (see below):
Boot Attempt => Result after selecting Arch from Grub
    1) Blank screen
    2) Blank
    3) Blank
    4) Login prompt
    5) Login

    9) Blank
    10) Login
    11) Login

Its a fresh install up until this point in the procedure, Arch Wiki Beginners Guide, so no graphical elements have been installed yet only thing I have installed is firmware for the wireless Broadcom (which is working fine).

Search regarding blank screen turned up this thread, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151240 , which seemed relevant. It led to KMS though not sure exactly what that does even after reading the Wiki so I decided to post here rather than tinker with it and risk making things 100x worse than they already are.
Any idea as to what could be causing my irregular boot behavior?

cfr wrote:Although that thread seems similar, I'm not sure how this could be the same issue as I thought KMS required a suitable video driver. Still, you could try passing nomodeset on the kernel command line as described in that thread. The worst that will happen is that it won't work. (You can edit the line from the grub menu so if it doesn't work you can just reboot and be back to the same settings you had before.) I guess you'd have to boot a few times to know if it helped.
Hmm, that seems to have fixed my problem. 9 successful reboots in a row. Figured with my erratic boot behavior as opposed to 100% blank screening that my problem was far worse when in fact the solution seems to have turned out to be quite simple.  Oopsie. My bad guys.
Followed these steps to make the changes persistent, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_parameters , and seems to be holding up well. Will go ahead and marked as Solved and hope no more monitor boot problems arise.
cfr wrote:So just to clarify: you have not installed any video drivers at this point, correct? And you haven't installed X? You definitely only have one graphics card?
    Nope. Nope. Yep.
cfr wrote:You can try examining the log files to see what is happening on successful versus unsuccessful boots. journalctl will let you do this and you can filter it with various options.
Cool, first time I've heard of this and just tested that out. Looks to be a wealth of information. Will have to remember this next time I have boot woes.

  • Equium A200 - blank screen at startup

    Hi All,
I need some help. I have just turned on my laptop (it has not been used for a few weeks) and it wont budge from the loading screen, the loading bar is scrolling so it hasnt crashed. Its just very annoying. I have restarted it several times, tried taking the battery out, but still no difference. It has been 'loading' now for about 10 mins, then the loading stopped and just a blank screen. Also keys are beeping if I click them. The laptop is only 4 months old and rarely used... could someone please advice?
    Laptop details:
    Toshiba EQUIUM A200-1VO
    Thanks! :-)

Did you try to reinstall the system?
I mean you could try to boot from the Recovery CD which was delivered with the notebook.
In such case you could test if the hardware is ok
If you will be not able to boot from the recovery CD and the notebook will not boot up the system then you should ask the authorized service provider in your country for the help the warranty seems to be valid and therefore everything should be done for free
    Good luck

  • IPhoto shows blank screen on startup

My iPhoto 08 started crashing a lot so I decided to get iLife 09, Once I had installed it iPhoto 09 opens up with nothing in the source list or in the main window, and the only control on the screen is the size slider at the bottom right. The only way to quit is to force quit. I did find that if I choose new album from the menu the rest of the source list appears along with my photos but just thumbnail show and arn't clickable.
I have tried holding alt when I start and making a new library but again it just shows a blank screen. I tried creating a new user to rule out a preference problem.
    I tried re-installing.
I tried deleting all iLife apps, receipts, coreTypes.bundle, iLifeMediaBrowser.framework,iLifeSlideshow.framework and then re-installing again, but nothing works!
Is there anything else I can delete to get rid of all traces of iLife to start from scratch?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’
    Regards

  • [SOLVED] Blank Screen on Startup

This is my first post on these forums, and I am a TOTAL noob when it comes to linux. The problems started today when my computer froze completely. I was in X at the time, and nothing (ctl+alt+backspace, or ctl+alt+F2) would get me out of it. I waited, but eventually had to press the power button. When I tried to restart my laptop, nothing showed up on the screen. I tried it a couple of more times, but the blank screen remained. I tried to login by typing even though nothing showed up, but that didn't work either.
Is there anything I can do? Sorry if I left any details out, but thanks for the help.

something's not right if you can't even get the intro screen. can you get into the BIOS at all?
    > Edit to add that if it truly was that ice cold and you started using it before letting it warm up to room temperature first, I can conceive that it might have been too much of a shock for the video hardware going from ice cold to relatively warm in a short period like that. I'm just speculating, but it seems possible.

  • Week old laptop with Windows 8.1 giving blank screen at Startup

I have a HP Laptop. I don't know the exact model number but it has the following configuration :- Intel Core-i5 4210u
1.7Ghz Processor, Nvidia 820M GPU and 4GB RAM. It came preinstalled with Windows 8.1
Now this is my problem :-
Whenever I power-up the laptop by using the power-button, I get the Windows 8 logo and than instead of the login-screen it
gives me a black screen. Its not even a black screen, the display is exactly as it is when the laptop turned off(nothing
at all on the screen). But I know that the laptop is running because the power button and caps-lock key is illuminated.
Now I discovered that in order to get to the Login Screen, I have to manually close the lid and open it. This however does
not work everytime. How can I fix it.
Please someone help me. It is a new laptop and I can't return it because I bought t from a different country

    Hello svmpua,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you are having issues with a blank display on your new notebook. It would help to know which product you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
In the meantime I would suggest going through this document for your issue: Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot.
You may also want to confirm if this is a hardware or software issue. Does the BIOS screen load properly? You can access this by repeatedly tapping F10 while the computer turns on. If this does not load properly try an external monitor to determine if it is a hardware problem. If it does load OK, you may want to try safe mode and see if the display works properly there.
Furthermore, it could be the physical connections on the display cable. Opening and closing the lid may be wiggling the cable enough to reseat the connection temporarily. You can see how to reseat that connection in the Service and Maintenance Guide. This will not void your warranty as long as you follow the directs. You can find the guide in the User Guides section of the support page for your product, which will require the exact product or model number.
You may also want to read this document about HP's Global Warranty: Global Warranty and FAQs. In short this shows you still have protection even if the unit is purchased in another country, but the coverage depends on part availability in the country you are currently located in. You can always try calling HP Phone Support, they may be able to provide service for you. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.
I look forward to your reply!

  • Blank Screens After Startup and Wake From Sleep

About half the time I startup my Mac Pro or wake it up from sleep, the screen will go blank, usually about 20-30 seconds after video appears on the screen. The system seems to be running, you just can't see anything.
I have had the screen go completely white, black or blue and occasionally, there will be a solid color with vertical lines throughout the screen. The only thing that will get display back is a forced restart of the entire computer.
I've zapped PRAM and run run hardware test with no issues reported but the problem keeps coming back.
I'm driving a Dell 2407 on my ATI 1900XT. Dell supplied a single-link DVI cable, could that cause issues with a dual-link port on the video card?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   ATI 1900XT, 2GB RAM

Intel Macs, especially MacBook Pros seem to be notorious for sleep issues...either not sleeping when supposed to, or not waking up from sleep properly.
My MacBook Pro has come out of the brief case hot as heck with a dead battery often enough, even with all the updates appled. If you listen to the MacBreak Weekly podcast, that's a common complaint of Merlin Mann, who can't figure it out with his machine, and he's no dummy when it comes to Macs. Not very encouraging, is it?
Still, what I would try is reinstalling the OS X 10.4.9 update. I've often read/heard on podcasts that it's better to manually install the larger Combo version of the updates. That seems to have fixed problems for me in the past.
Get the Intel 10.4.9 Combo Update here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateintel.html
    Good luck.

  • Blank screen at startup on Equium L350D-11D

When I start up my laptop (Equium L350D-11D), I get as far as the welcome screen, then it goes blank and nothing responds at all.
I have tried pressing F8 at startup, but nothing happens.
I can get into setup by pressing F2 but I can't see anything there that will help.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

And what was happened before? Does this happen for no reason or is there anything you have done that can help for better understanding?
What happen when you choose HDD as first bootable device in boot menu (F12)? No activity on the screen? Can you notice any HDD activity (blinking HDD LED)?
Try to use bootable CD/DVD to see if there is any kind of activity on the screen.
Sorry but it is not easy to give some precise answer to this.

  • 13" MacBook Pro - Retina, Late 2013 (A1502) Blank screen on startup, how do I fix?

The model experienced a minor water spill via the rear vents (from left to right). After "drying" the model, the system turned on with the display, everything worked great for over 6 hours. After adjusting the display brightness up via the F2 key, the display went black shortly thereafter..
Attempted all of the on/off tricks, including clearing the startup ram, so now it voices to hit the return key to run the setup in English (annoying).
External Sony TV and Samsung LCD display were blank. The TV stated that no signal was detected.
Plugged in iPhone 5S on both left and right USB ports, received buzz on startup for both, yet no charging indication.
Please assist me in determining what I need to replace or be looking at. Thank you, I do appreciate your input and suggestions!

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. They will make a diagnosis and let you know what the repair cost will be.
