Cracked hinged of Macbook mid-2010
The Macbook mid-2010 has an expired warranty, both sides of the hinge has a hairline crack. I called Apple Customer Service this afternoon and said that I can have this fixed but I have to pay for it. Is it possible to just bring this to Apple then just add a little amount in exchange for say an MBA 11" 64gb? I hope Apple will consider a global recall for this product, they could at least give a free repair. Anybody with same problem?
ok, I brought the Macbook to a Genius Bar (2hours drive), they said that they won't replace the Macbook nor give a free repair since it's out of warranty, their charging me $200+ (forgot the exact amount, maybe $280+) for the repair. It's so expensive, so I decided not to push through and the guy from the Genius Bar advised me it is not worth it to pay that amount for a small crack, he also said to use it more often and let the crack get bigger Apple might replace the whole unit for free if the crack is big enough! I hope Apple will recognize the problem so there would be a global recall or replacement of the Macbook mid-2010.
By the way, this is the image of the crack on the right side. There's also a smaller crack on the left side.

The startup disk may need repairing...
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery -

Thank you!No, the logic board desn't have the hardware for it. The Late 2008 2.4Ghz Aluminum Unibody was the only MacBook to have the backlit keyboard. MacBook Pros are the only other Macs to have the backlit keyboard.

I bought the latest generation MacBook (mid 2010) last year and now I'd like to upgrade my Ram from the defalult 2 GB (2x1GB) to 4GB (2x2GB). My question is: where can I buy my new RAM? The Apple Store is way to expensive....so I decided to buy it somewhere else.
I live in Italy and I've found this website that sells Mac-compatible RAM....what do you think of this (Kit 4 GB (2x2 GB) RAM SODDR3 1067 per MacBook/Pro Unibody)...? Another option would be buying my new RAM on other websites...such as Crucial or Kingston....what do you think? Is there anyone of you who has already done the upgrade and so can suggest me the best solution?

ATTENTION OWNERS OF MACBOOKS OR APPLE COMPUTERS: I have a question, my MacBook (year 2010) has not only been running slower than a turtle since I upgraded to the newest version but I now can't control my volume or brightness with my keyboard anymore. I have to go into the settings & do it that way. Does anyone know how I can fix this? My MacBook (Mid 2010) Is Running Slow..Why?
Hi! I have a MacBook that I have had since December 2010. It hasnt really ever ran slow, unless I have a bunch of programs running. About a month or so ago, my MacBook started running extremely slow. I deleted a bunch of text documents and unwanted pictures. I have alot of pictures because I am a photographer, but I have never had a problem with alot of pictures. I dont think I have extra programs that are not needed installed. I also am having trouble with my computer freezing, and just stalling all together. I then have to use CTRL, Option (ALT), Delete to make it unlock and load what ever it is doing. Also Is there a way to delete the cookies on my Safari? I have ran the EtreCheck as well and I pasted it below. If anyone can help, it would be very appreciated.

This link shows you how to do the install yourself. I think you need a Phillipps #00 screwdriver - you can get that at just about any hardware stored. As long as you're gently with removing the screws & RAM, you should be fine.
Apple notes that you can only install up to 4GB of RAM, but you can go up to 16GB.

Going higher than 4GB can be very costly from what I can see, so you may want to just go to 4GB.

I am suffering .... and im the last person to be on such discussion forum... but now I am here... you may be able to guage my furstration. Snow Leapord is zillion times better than Lion... they should call it pu**y instead of lion.

The new Mac mini is a great computer. The hardware is much better than the Mid 2010 MacBook, it comes with OS X Mountain Lion, it can support heavy applications without any problem, and if you want to improve its hardware, you have an easy access to the Mac mini to replace the hard disk and add RAM. If you don't need to take the computer everywhere, the Mac mini is the best choice

How do I download the Windows Support Software for MacBook Mid-2010 ?
Hey guys, I've got quite a big problem at the moment... In December, I bought a MacBook7,1 (the Mid-2010 Unibody model) and used my OS X install disc whenever I wanted to install Windows XP/Vista/7 drivers to my Boot Camp partition. However, I've recently got quite a bit of a problem...
See, I can't find my OS X Install Disc. So I have to use, from within the Boot Camp Assistant, the "Download the Windows support software for this Mac" function, to be able to burn to DVD/install to a USB stick.
Now, this function up until recently used to work completely fine - no issues at all. However I need to reinstall my Windows 7 (again, I know, Windows has quite a few problems but I really do need to use it for what I do - gaming, etc) again, and whenever I try this option in the last... week, I'd wager, it comes up with "Download could not be continued" and "The Windows Support Software is unavailable" errors.
I've checked on this forum and some people are saying that Apple removed the support software for some Macintosh computers? What on Earth? What about us lot who don't have our OS X install discs anymore?! I don't think it's fair they've specifically gimped a functionality that was working fine until a bit ago for no apparent reason. It's just... stopped working. Is this for everyone?
Is there some alternative I can use? I've tried everything. I don't have someone I could just borrow the OS X install disc from and I think it's rather unfair if they expect to me to shell out for an OS X install disc again when I could previously do what I wanted for free!!!The point isn't whether I lost them, the point is that I was able to use the Boot Camp Assistant previously fine to download the Win Support Software and put that on a USB stick (which has since been formatted for other usage).
Since this was made available as an option, I haven't really had much need for the OS X install discs (Unless I really, really needed to reinstall OS X at some point but I have no reason to fear that right?). To claim this being "okay" because I've misplaced the discs is rather outrageous. -
Choppy playback of all flash/facebook videos on MacBook (Mid 2010) (clean yosemite installation!!)

I did an upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite on my MB Pro 13" (Mid 2010). Now I got a lot of problems with videos (flash) in Safari 8.
I seams that there is an issue while loading the video stream. After the loading most of the videos have a smooth playback.
Firefox works perfect and HTML5 videos on YouTube are no problem!
I did several tests:
- safari reset
- abobe flash reinstall
- deactivation of hardware acceleration in adobe flash
- test with a new user account/profile on OS X
- WiFi off and use a wired connection
- CLEAN install of Yosemite !!!
Any idea?From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Now delete the Safari cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari then try a video. -
Wifi turns off after screen lock macbook mid 2010, mountain lion
I want my wifi to be turned on permanently, when macbook is on.
However, when I lock screen or it is locked after period of inactivity, wifi turns off.
Are there any settings, any config files, any system tools which could be used to tell my MB 2010 not to turn my wifi off.I think I may have found a solution. I feel like a fool for not thinking of it earlier.
System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter > Computer Sleep > Never
This worked overnight, even with the screen locked.
Obviously, you could do the same for the Battery version of the panel.

Hi Guys, Since we have updated our primaries to 10.3.1, we are unable to remote control any client running 10.3.1 by device name. If we choose the machine IP address from the drop down instead of the name, we can remote control the device just fine.

Paint Shop Pro instead of Photoshop
I am much more comfortable using Paint Shop Pro. Is there a way to get Encore CS3 to open Paint Shop Pro instead of Photoshop to edit menus, etc.?
