Crashes, graphics glitches, and more crashes when editing video clips

Can't for the life of me figure out why PE keeps crashing on me, so I'm here for help.
My system consists of a i7-970 hexacore, 6GB ram, 1x 500GB os drive, 3x500gb raid 0 drives (this is where my video clips are stored), 2x GeForce GTX460 video cards.
OS is Windows 7 Profressional 64 bit.
The video files I work with are generally in the 50-200GB size.
A little background - the videos that I am working with are recordings from Battlefield Bad Company 2 that I have recorded with some capture software called Dxtory.
I record at 1920x1080 at 60 FPS to avi files.  The avi files are using the "xtor" codec (Dxtory's own codec)
[ISFT]    DxtoryCore ver2.0.0.101
[ISRC]    Video:YUV420 Audio:Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Audio is PCM 192000Hz recorded in stereo.
Let me start by saying I have not had trouble with this before until I started recording the videos at 60 FPS.  30 FPS worked ok (some crashes here and there, but they were bearable), but the frequent crashes started happening when I started working with the 60 FPS videos, done mainly so I could play around with slowing the clips down, etc.
Sometimes I can open and edit clips just fine.
Recently, a project that I'm working on is crashing when I try putting two different clips from different files together on the time line.  I managed to get it to work once, and saved the project after that.  Then, PE crashed randomly and when trying to reopen the project, it just crashes and won't let me get any further.
I should mention the graphics glitches as well - occasionally (especially when previewing video clips before adding them to the timeline) after I close the preview window, the graphics in PE will glitch out, causing random lines to appear in certain areas, graphics to stack on top of eachother and freeze up, and sometimes I can click on the "play" button in the main project window and hear everything start playing, but the graphics are completely screwed up to the point where I can't view the video or hit the pause button.
All of my computer hardware is fine, all drivers, and PE, are up to date.
Can someone please help me figure out what is going on?  I'll be happy to provide any more information that might help out.

The most likely issue is the codec that your program is using the create your video. It's apparently not compatible with Premiere Elements.
This often happens also when people try to record their on-screen video with FRAPS.
You'll see lots of discussions on this issue in the Premiere Pro forum. However, it's even more pronounced in Premiere Elements, which is designed to work almost exclusively with camcorder video.
Some video programs are a little more versatile with this type of video. Some people have found Corell's Video Studio better at handling these non-traditonal formats.
But I did a Google search on Dxtory editing and couldn't find any information on it.
Sorry I can't offer a solution. But I can pretty much assure you that Premiere Elements isn't it. sorry.

  • Unusable system (graphical glitches and more)

Sorry for the quite unspecific title, but I'm not really sure how to describe this problem...
So, I came back from a threeweek long vacation yesterday and did a "pacman -Syu". Everything went smooth and there was nothing on the Arch news or the forum that seemed serious to me, so I thought everything was good.
After booting today, I experience pretty bad graphical glitches which make the system unusable. urxvtc (and lxterminal) don't even start anymore, one of my conkys hogs a core at 100% and chromium and gvim look like this:

Sakura, xterm, dwb, firefox and thunderbird seem to work fine, as far as I can tell. Haven't really tested things in deep, but there's nothing obvious. Logs (dmesg or journalctl) also look plain to me, but I can post them anyway if necessary.
pacman.log is here. As you can see, I tried downgrading some packages that seemed relevant to me, but no success so far.

  • Audio issues when editing video clips

Sorry if this been asked before and I’m having trouble looking for the answers on my own. I will start by saying that I have the latest built of Premiere and that’s CS4.2
I’m trying to edit 720 60p clips natively from my Panasonic GH1 camcorder and I have it set to interpret footage to 29.97 for slow motion. Its edits very well but sometimes when I use the razor tool to split a file, the second part of that clip will no longer play the audio.  I even noticed a clip that had the audio missing half way when I didn’t even use the razor tool. Another time it was several clips in a row that was missing the audio.
This isn’t the first time. I was trying to edits clips on standard speed and I noticed that one of the clips couldn’t play the audio. I ended up saving everything and restart Premiere and luckily the audio was their. This time, with the slow motion clips, restarting Premiere is no help at all. I could start over on a fresh time line but I want to see if theirs any other solutions first.
I hope I was clear enough.

This is a shameless bump to get someone to attempt to give me an idea what to do... or even tell me a better way to copy DVD that I own onto an IPod

  • Safari, iTunes, iPhoto, aim, software update, and more crashing when opened

I have an older MacBook, but the operating system and all the software is up-to-date. For some reason, out of the blue (didn't add any plugins, extensions, or download any new apps), safari started to crash every time that I tried to open it. In hunting around, I noticed that iTunes, iPhoto, Aim, software updates, and more crash in the same exact way. Firefox, Chrome, Quicktime, and microsoft office work fine. I went in and deleted all the plists and emptied the cache, but the problem persists. I also did a disk repair and reset the PRAM. I am able to use all of the above programs in a different user account though, so it has to be something with this specific user account and it's preferences. I just cannot figure it out. Any help would be fantastic. Here is the error message from safari:

  • How can I get the QUICK  DEVELOP  panel to appear when editing video in Lightroom 4

When editing video, the only panel that appears at right hand side is the the one silimar to the developing of still shots. But of course, it is greyed out, thus preventing its use when editing video.

Thanks a lot Jay. Right clicking on a panel brought up QUICK  DEVELOP. I've searched through books galore and none mention this.

Can we assume that your 1080p30 is an AVCHD.mp4 file or other?
You manually or the project automatically should set the project preset to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30 @29.97
(If your frame rate is really 30 instead of 29.97, then go with DSLR 1080p30 instead of DLSR 1080p30 @29.97)
See the following link for setting the project preset manually
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
    For your export
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30
Please let us know if you have further questions on this or need clarification on anything written.

  • Video halts when viewing video clips

    Hello,
When viewing video clips, the video will halt, message says "buffering", then plays, then halts, "buffering" message again.. etc. It does continue to play (doesn't crash or anything like that) and does complete the video.  I'd appreciate any advice or help...

    Lenovo 3000 N100 / 0768 33U XP

You got it right. I'm telling you to live with it. This problem has no consequence with Lenovo or Microsoft. It's just problem of your bandwidth or video-server bandwidth. Saying "something else" I meant "something else". Which word is new for you? It doesn't matter whether something downloaded by you or downloaded automatically - it maters if ANYTHING (this word means "anything") is being downloaded (this one means "download from the Internet") at the very same time you're going to see your video online. It (something that is being downloaded) eats up your bandwidth and your favourite video is  just caching slowly. If the problem occurs when you apparently do nothing with Internet but only watch video and it still caches for long , the problem is on server side and you can do nothing (exept calling them to server and yellign at them or biting them by phone).
    With best regards, Sergej.
    You're welcome.
    Be happy.
P.S. Of cource there's a setting you can adjust! Call your provider and adjust setting "speed".

  • A first step: Editing video clips before using them in a longer video?

I am an absolute beginner.  I have purchased Premiere Elements 7 and I bought the Premiere Bible and am reading that.
My question is, Premiere seems to be software designed primarily to help you make a video production by joining together video clips, sound clips, and photos.  Is there a step before this, though, namely editing the clips as they come out of your camera?
I've been using PhotoShop for years, and typically when I take a still photo I open it in PhotoShop and adjust saturation, brightness, sharpness, maybe white balance, rotate if needed, etc.
Is there another piece of software designed to help do this kind of basic editing to a single video clip?  For example, if the clip came out too dark, is there a way to brighten things up?
I'd really appreciate any answers, and if there is a book or article you could suggest about editing video clips I would appreciate the recommendation!

    Stephen,
    First, welcome to the forum.
Next, and this does depend on your camera, you Capture your video from the camera, using a Preset for your Project, that matches the material from your camera.
Now comes the "RAW conversion," though I am using that term VERY loosely. Many people will do basically a pre-edit, by Dbl-clicking the Captured Video in the Project Panel. This opens it in the Source Monitor, where one sets  the In and Out Points, basically doing a loose edit of the scenes. The Clip in the Source Monitor can then be dragged to the Timeline. Each is done this way, until they all appear, in the order that you want, on the Timeline. Note: you can drag from the Project Panel, and do this in the Timeline too. Also note: when you play the Timeline, you are now looking at the Program Monitor.
At this stage, one touches up the edits, and adds any desired Effects.
Usually last is any Audio work, like adjusting the Clip's Audio, or adding Narration, and/or Soundtrack.
Export/Share is the final step and one can choose their delivery format.
The exact workflow is a bit different than processing an image in PS, but not totally alien.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Gnome - severe graphical glitches, entire DM crashing

For some time, most applications dealing with images started producing glitches - random misplaces rectangles and pixels being copied from the right side of the screen to the left and vice versa. This includes GIMP and Eye Of Gnome - it's almost impossible to work with images like this. Some other applications also cause the "pixel copying" behavior, such as SDL/OpenGL games and Wine. Screenshots usually look different from what I see on the screen! Here's one: http://i.imgur.com/F43Cj.jpg (note the status bar and text behind the date.)
In addition, the entire Gnome crashes seemingly randomly. First I see a tty with the mouse cursor still visible and working, then I'm thrown back to GDM.
I think those issues are related, because Gnome tends to crash more often when I'm trying to reproduce the glitches.
Should I paste the logs somewhere? Which ones?
EDIT: I know it should be "DE" in  the topic name.

    Apple - Feedback
Have seen similar lines and artifacts on Safari on my 13" MBP.  It's a software bug and based on your additional findings, linked to bad drivers for the Intel 4000 chipset.  File your findings with Apple on that Feedback page for your respective system.  Make sure you provide all the info like you did here.  Someone will eventually see it and add it to the engineering things to fix if it hasn't already been addressed in the soon to be released 10.8.3 build.

  • Help please? Static audio, Crashes, ActionScript Errors and more issues with Flash Player 16

So, this is the first time I'm posting in here and I'm sorry if I mess up or smth.
    Anyway, this is what happened:
    - Firefox tells me Flash Player 15 is vulnerable
    - I update to the newest version
    - After the update I run into several things that are highly annoying.
    First of all:
    - I can't watch any livestreams anymore, neither on picarto nor on twitch. The video keeps loading and buffering, then works for a second or two and then goes back to buffering OR alternatively the video would stop whilst the sound continues or vice versa. (My wifi connection is super fast and I never had any problems until the update)
    - On youtube videos only load for a second or two, then the audio vanishes and the video crashes. (Never had that issue before, EVER)
    - The audio is incredibly wonky, aka, depending on the bass or sounds I hear static noises and weird sounds. (This only happens on videos that require flash, the sound is fine when playing CDs )
    - When watching videos and pausing it or going back a few seconds to rewatch something, the audio suddenly is completely gone.
    - Flash player crashes A LOT
    EDIT: Another Issue appeared:
    - When watchign videos using the Blip player (used by some websites) I get ActionScript errors which then result in crashes
    I'm using:
    Packard Bell EasyNoteLS
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Firefox 34.0.5
    Adobe/Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.235
    What I've tried to do:
    - revert back to an older version of Flash (but it kept telling me to update so I gave up on it)
    - Try to enable "hardware accelaration" BUT, when right clicking on the Flash Symbol on Adobe's site FF freezes and tells me that Flash player crashed
    - Found out that I already have hardware accelaration enabled and it still keeps crashing
    - I deleted all of its local cache
    - downloaded and installed the debug version
But none of it helped in the slightest.
    I really hope someone can help me fix this OR that adobe soon comes with a patch/update that fixes all these things ;_____;
    Thanks for reading and helping!

Just to let you know, I don't tend to send all reports but here are a few from within the last week:

I tend to submit crash reports most of the times lately but yeah--
Also, someting that really bugs me are these Actionscript errors because I can't upload a crash report for those--
(they are more rare now but still happen occasionally)
EDIT: Added photo of one of the Actionscript Errors when trying to play videos using the blip-player

  • MSI 680GTX crashing black flickering and more

    Hello.
A couple of months ago i found a real good price on a MSI 680 GTX so i switched my 6870 x-fire setup to a single 680.
I ran a cleanersweeper in fail-safe mode and then installed the newest driver available.
Trying to run BF3 with the new setup became a nightmare!
Crashing after anywhere from 1 min to 15min became standard.
(Displaydriver crashing and recovering with "Directx function "getdeviceremovedreason" failed
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG Device Hung due to badly formed commands.Gpu")
Running the game again after a crash the screen just went black.
But running other games like crysis and planetside 2 worked perfectly!
So I tried the simple solution of doing a clean installation and choose windows 8 as i wanted to try it.
The same thing as with windows 7 repeated itself over again.
Trying to run 3dMark 11 ends with a crash during the combined physx tests.
Stumbled upon some threads talking about LatencyMon and HPET timings (h*tp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Precision_Event_Timer)
I tried those programs to see if they could help me out. According to LatencyMon I had problems with audio and video and
the NVidia drivers (nvlddmkm and dxkrnl) as well as usbport.sys and ndis.sys was causing a disturbance so i tried upgrading
the drivers of the network card and my external audio card without improving.
So i tried changing to HPET and enabling it in the bios.
Now all of a sudden BF3 works! (Well thats what i thought anyway...)
This is when I tried running Metro 2033 with af4x dx11 high settings it ran fine, but as soon as i turn on advanced dof it starts to flicker all over
    the screen.
But still had problems according to LatencyMon so I did another fresh installation, this time going back to Windows 7 64-bit pro version.
Changing to HPET timings again everything seemed to work. Now the timings looked alot better except for the usbport.
Trying Metro 2033 again and the same results as well as running BF3 gives me black lines flickering now and then.
Trying 3dMark 11 again and it crashes again with the same error again as with windows 8. I even tried running the new 3dMark with the same results.
"Workload work failed with error message:

Trying to change drivers to older ones and even beta didn't do anything.
    Changing power cables
    Updating bios
    Removing the second screen
Removing my G15 and Naos 5000 for simpler models
Ran memorytest for 12h straight without error.
Downclocked the card both memory and clock.
Tried without OC of the CPU.
Running OCCT with error checking gives alot of errors

Hopefully my text is readable and somewhat making sense otherwise please ask me for more info!

Some games need to be reinstalled if you changed the graphics card.
Also, in some cases if you switch from AMD/ATI to Nvidia, you need to reinstall the OS.
Not to mention that BF3 is a buggy game (design flaws).

  • CS4 - Crashing and more crashing

I am in the processing of editing a 15 minute video that includes at the end a sequence of jpg photos.
Now admittedly I am mixing and using motion effects on the pictures (position and scale).
When I add a photo to the timeline make the necessary effects etc changes I have resorted to rendering a particular photo each time I add one.
Unfortunately, if the sequence is say 15 seconds in length almost every time Premiere crashes (when rendering); not spectacularly with an error; no the application just closes.  I have searched the windows logs and there are no errors.
If I then do a render of just a small segment of the same sequence in the timeline of say 5 seconds; this goes fine.  That way I can actually render the whole sequence with the same picture but doing it in a few second increments.
I even resorted to opening each photo in Photoshop and resaving it just in case there was something funny going on.
I have ProspectHD installed and have plenty of free disc space on the PC.  I've tried deleting all the render files and starting again but that didn't make any difference.  There are no gaps in the sequences.
I have nearly reached the end of my project but have no idea what will happen when I try and render the whole thing and produce an output.
Has anyone any ideas what I can do to resolve this issue or even identify what may be causing it in the first place?
    Glenn

You are right; it is installed - I am dumb.
    OK an update for you.
Why have you partitioned your C (632 GB), D (15 GB), J (544 GB) and a hidden (system restore with 62 MB?) drives?
For backing up to my homeserver, I have kept all software etc on the C partition.  There is no (or virtually no) data held there.
The D partition is one set up by Dell so that the PC can be restored back to its factory delivered condition should I need to do so.
The J partition contains data and I have used it to contain Premiere stuff although not in this instance.
In the processes you have Search Indexer on, you have SideBar on and you have Avast! on. All three have a serious negative effect on performance. The same may apply to Diskeeper, if scheduling was used. I suggest you turn off Search indexer, by going to My Computer, click and for all your drives right click, select properties and turn off the bottom tick box, apply that to all directories and sub directories. Skip files Vista says can not be un-indexed.
Turn off the sidebar completely and when editing, turn off Avast! as well.
Why have you partitioned your C (632 GB), D (15 GB), J (544 GB) and a hidden (system restore with 62 MB?) drives?
Serious problem: You have K-Lite installed. It may require a complete reformat  of C and reinstall of OS and programs.
Download CCleaner.exe and in the startup options disable or remove Sidebar, WelcomeCenter, IAANotif, StartCCC, dellsupportcenter, avast!
    I have done the following:
    Updated Network Magic
    Applied Windows updates
Run CCleaner and deleted the Sidebar, WelcomeCenter, IAANotif, StartCCC and dellsupportcenter
Switched off the search indexer for all drives
Changed the setting in Diskeeper so that it doesn’t run when I am doing an editing session (basically stopped it running 9-5)
Switched off Avast on-Access protection when I am editing
I then loaded my project into Premiere again and started to do the rendering and after a minute or so, the same thing happened ie Premiere terminated.
    Uninstalled ProDAD, rebooted.
Tried again; this time I get an error “error compiling movie – unknown error message”
    Rebooted PC
    Tried again; same error.
I think at least it might be giving me something to look at so I might try and render in small chunks so I can see if I can isolate where the problem is.

  • Captivate Crashing when editing video demo

I have been having a lot of issues with Captivate crashing when I'm editing video demos. When I try to save, the save progress bar will get to 'thumbnails' and then freeze up. I have to close and restart the project and lose all information that has not been saved. I try to save after every thing just to be sure, but this is still very frustrating.
Does anyone else have issues with this?
The videos I'm working with are about 6 minutes long. I've trimmed a lot of information out in an attempt to make it a shorter video. It seems that after so many 'trims', Captivate doesn't function very well. I'm assuming a work around would be to just make shorter videos, however, if anyone else has an issue such as this I was wondering what your work around was.
    Thanks
