Crashing bug

On the family's Powerbook G3 running 10.3.9, Safari (v.1.3.2) has developed an annoying bug. It crashes every time a message window pops up, one of those "Are you sure...?" or other similar messages. It also freezes quite frequently. I can't do the normal browser troubleshooting procedures of emptying the cache and deleting cookies because it asks me if I'm sure I want to and then Safari crashes.
I was hoping to completely delete Safari with AppDelete and reinstall, but Safari doesn't appear to be available as a full download, at least I can't find it.
Any ideas?

Thank you both for your very helpful suggestions.
I have discovered a couple things. One, it is a user level problem. Safari didn't crash in the new user account.
Two, it is not a Safari-specific problem. When I was setting up the new account, I tried to turn on "fast user switching". An "are you sure" message popped up and System Preferences crashed. To test it further, I tried something in iPhoto which I knew would bring up an "are you sure" message. iPhoto crashed too. And, not surprisingly, Safari still crashed when I removed the Safari folder and the Safari caches.
Here's the crash log for Safari. The crash logs for System Preferences and iPhoto are different from Safari's but the same as each other. They say KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at the beginning.

    Yes indeed ,Logic crashes.
cannot work with 9.1.1 as a result
You can work with Logic if you don't use that function at the mo,until they fix it.
Which function are you specifically using, and what you'd like to achieve?Maybe there's a different way to do it.

  • Feedback node crashing bug

I have came across a nasty bug that caused Labview 2010 SP1 (Runnnig Win 7 Ultimate x64 bit) to crash without any warning.
To replicate the bug do the following:
Add a numeric control and another indicator to the front panel
Switch to block diagram and add a feed back node
Connect the initializer terminal of the feed back node to the output of the control
Now do ANY of the following to cause the bug:
Press the run buttong (which is broken due to not connecting the input of the feed back node) it will turn to a normal run without displaying the error
Do an extra action and undo it, the run button will turn from list error normal
So far the Vi can be saved normally. Now connect the output of the feed back node to the indicator and try any of the followings:
    Save the VI
    Close the VI
Create a new project and select to add the VI to the project
This will cause Labview to crash without any notice!
When you are at step 4, the bug is there but harmless. Once you combine it with step 5 (connect to indicator), the bug is active and cause crashing. I have attached a snapshot of how the Front panel/block diagram look like before saving (since it can't be saved). Notice how the run button is enabled although the input of the feedback node is not connected.
I have tried to replicate the error on Labview 2009 but couldn't.

  • LabVIEW 2010 in-placeness crash bug

    [cross-posted to LAVA]
I found an odd LabVIEW 2010 bug that will cause a hard crash. The bug appears to be related to how LabVIEW operates on data in-place and some interaction between clusters, arrays, and the Aum Array Elements node. It's hard to describe verbally, so I'll just draw you a picture

  • Experiencing major crashes, bugs still there

The last update was a giant step forward, I'm enjoying working with the new SG version (CC 7.0.1 x51).
But, I noticed the problems with CMD+Z (undo) are still there: sometimes works, sometimes stucks on "optimizing timeline", sometimes the thumbnails in the timeline are displayed, a lot of times my pointer disappears and I have to restart SG.
I'm afraid to press cmd+z now!
I'm doing my first client work with the new version, will report eventual bugs or problems.

Thanks Dennis, sorry I don't mean crashes. I completed the work yesterday and the main issues I encountered are with cmd+z (undo). When pressing cmd+z I got these effects (each time different):
    1) The old problem of thumbnails, the bar came out and the "optimizing timeline" progress bar is shown.
    2) "Optimizing timeline" progress bar is shown, when at 100%, the preview switches to "2 up" automatically with the same frame I actually was on in timeline in both panels.
    3) Sometimes after the issues above, the mouse pointer disappears, I have to force quit and restart SG.
I am on a macbookpro (mid 2010) osx 10.8.4, Speedgrade CC updated to latest version.
Will also file a bug report via your link.
I finished the work smoothly and rendered a master, but I will open a new thread with some requests regarding the workflow and some features (missing or hidden!). Thanks
    Andy

  • Where do i send a crossbridge llvm crash bug report

    Hi all,
I have a 100% reproducible crash in clang++, and my question is where do i send the report?
Im using Crossbridge_1.1.0.devbuild.fdb5425, and the crsh report itself states:
clang++: note: diagnostic msg: PLEASE submit a bug report to  and include the crash backtrace, preprocessed source, and associated run script.
The address has been removed for some reason..
Thanks for your help in advance,
    Jon

I think you post it here: https://github.com/adobe-flash/crossbridge/issues but that's just a guess

  • Crash bug in Premiere when editing Marker descriptions and using scroll wheel

So I've noticed a really particular bug:
If I go to edit a Marker description in the Markers panel, and I add some text, then move the scroll wheel of my mouse, the program immediately crashes, with these errors:
    "[/caravan/releases/2014.09/PremierePro/UIFramework/Src/HotTimecodeControl.cpp-203]"
    "[/caravan/releases/2014.09/PremierePro/UIFramework/Src/InlineEditText.cpp-140]"
Then it has the standard: "Sorry, Premiere has to shut down. It will try to save your project" - But it never does make a recovery.
    More details:
This happens when the cursor is still active in the description box. If I've clicked out of the description box, everything works normally.
It only happens in the Markers panel, not in the individual Marker dialog box
It only happens after new text has been typed in or pasted in.
It doesn't happen with the Name box
It happens immediately upon touching the scroll wheel, even if it's just a nudge (in either direction)
It happens in every sequence I've tried it in
    Tech specs:
    Premiere CC 2014 (version 2014.1)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011), OSX Yosemite 10.10.1, 2.2 GHz clockspeed, 8GB RAM
Wireless Logitech Mouse (the Anywhere MX) (with Logitech wireless keyboard)
Not a single mouse issue before!
Anyone know if there's a patch or a workaround for this? I know it's specific enough of a problem to avoid, but I work with markers a lot and the scroll wheel on this mouse is sensitive, so can get easily nudged and thus instantly muck up all the work I've done since the last save...
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Bob,

If I go to edit a Marker description in the Markers panel, and I add some text, then move the scroll wheel of my mouse, the program immediately crashes, with these errors:

Then it has the standard: "Sorry, Premiere has to shut down. It will try to save your project" - But it never does make a recovery.
No promises, but this bug has been marked as fixed in the upcoming version of Premiere Pro. Sorry for all the frustration this has introduced.
Anyone know if there's a patch or a workaround for this?
The workaround listed is, "always remember to exit the control by clicking outside it or tabbing to the neighboring box before scrolling."
Hopefully, the upcoming fix will be done to your satisfaction.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Xorg/x11vnc crash (bug?)

    Hi all,
I'm having a really annoying problem and I think it is probably a bug, but wanted to check here first. When I am using x11vnc (and ONLY when using x11vnc), either directly or through ssh tunnel I am getting a hard lockup in X. Actually, 95% of the time that happens, but a few times I have dropped back to a slim login. I have tried downgrading both packages, both individually and together, still happens. This problem is in both my minimal (openbox) build and my fullblown gnome (both on the same hardware on different partitions). I have an Acer Aspire 4810T laptop with the intel i915 chipset. I cannot reproduce this on my salix, ubuntu or antix installs (all also on the same hardware, but of course using older versions of both packages). Until today I thought the entire system was locked, as I could not switch to another console, and could only use the sysrq procedure to restart, but today I discovered i could still ssh into the machine. Unfortunately there do not seem to be any errors logged, unless I am missing something. Is there a way I can force verbose logging on the xserver to see if I can get a clue as to what is happening? Anyone have any thoughts or seen this before? I have been searching fruitlessly for over a week, but with no error log it's a bit difficult to find a solution. Also, now that I discovered that I can still ssh in, I cannot seem to kill X so I can resume the session without rebooting. The process shows as defunct, but nothing I do seems to terminate it. Any thoughts there?
thanks in advance for any ideas,
    k
oh, I'm running 64bit, and everything is up to date.
    <edit> I just discovered I can restart the slim daemon and get back in without rebooting, but the root problem is still there. At least that is some progress! ;>}

There is a recent bug in Xorg that gives something that looks like a lock-up.
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30032
The workaround is to apply the "-noxrecord" option to x11vnc.  Search for "x11vnc noxrecord" at ubuntuforums.org for more info on the problem.
There is an older bug in the Xorg X server where it is also crashed.  The workaround there is to supply "-noxfixes" x11vnc option to disable cursor fetching.  Try that too if "-noxrecord" doesn't work.

  • App Crashing Bug? [WAS: Thunderbird Bug?]

I saw this bug on the default Thunderbird in the latest Ubuntu last week. I am not 100% sure if I saw it in the default Thunderbird in Debian Stable (5.0) which I later used. I am now using Thunderbird version 2.0.0.21 (20090319) on Arch and I just found the same bug.
The problem is I can't always reproduce it. But this seems to work now to reproduce:
    0. Copy this line into your buffer with Ctrl-C:
    $city = $_REQUEST['city'];
    1. Close Thunderbirdt and all open message windows
    2. Launch Thunderbird
    3. Open a new message
    4. Click the mouse in the Body section
    5. Press Ctrl-V
On my system, this crashes Thunderbird.
Also copy/pasting this text has crashed it:
    [email protected]
    but not every time.
Now that I played with it, the first text doesn't always crash it either. In short, however, copying and pasting PHP code has crashed Thunderbird for me numerous times.
Before I post this to the appropriate place, can someone at least confirm that they also see this issue?

Hmmm. Very interesting. I presently have no addons on my Thunderbird. In Ubuntu I did. The truth is that once in Ubuntu even Firefox crashed--I had it open to a page with a TinyMCE (rich text) textarea and I copied and pasted something in there and Firefox crashed. When I say "crash" I mean the app just dies and disappears.
In my present Arch there is another problem--if I right click on my "keyboard layouts" Xfce panel addon item and click on "About" then that addon crashes and disappears.
Also when I install an app on Wine IIRC it messes up my "other" menu in the Xfce main menu. I forget if it's that the new app doesn't appear or that all the old apps that were there don't appear--whatever it is, when I reboot it works again and all apps are there.
I wonder if these quirks are due to something specific on my hardware/install. Not sure what else it could be.

  • More than 8 Cores crash (BUG REPORT)

    My setup:
Hello guys, I'd like to report a  bug with the Flash Media Live Encoder 3.1 specifically when handling  systems of greater than 8 reported cores. If you select either VP6 or  H.264 and have a framerate over 25 FPS, any time you attempt to change  the Output Size the encoder will crash when you begin the broadcast  (click Start).
If you match the input size to the output  size FMLE will be stable. This effects both the command line and GUI  version of FMLE 3.1. Systems specs and feeds are below:
CPU: Intel 6-Core i7-980 Gulftown 3.3GHz (12 cores with HT)
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Feeds  tested were: 1920x1080 and a different resolution to convert to.
If  someone from the adobe team could take a look at this I'd appreciate  it. I have remote access if needed.

Thanks XmeF. This bug is already known, and has been fixed for the coming release, and is currently in pre-release mode.

  • Motion Crashing Bug Reporting

First the Hardware: iMac Core Duo 2.0 Ghz, 1.5 gigs of ram, 10.4.7. Motion 2.02 (or whatever the heck the most recent version is). Video preview through Apple converter to NTSC Monitor.
I've encountered two guaranteed crash situations on my system. First, with the output prefs turned on, if I switch between applications (apple-tab) Motion will lock up and must be forced to quit. Second, when I create the following. Shape layer, keyframe bezier shape to change, apply a replicator to this layer. This second set-up will completely crash my computer. I'm shocked as this is the first application I've seen do this under OS X. Anyone have any suggestions? The most frustrating part, is when you force quit the application, you do not get the automatically generated crash report to send to apple.
So far, I've tried both turning off the video preview, and trashing my preferences. One other question, does anyone know why the preview options for output in motion are different from all the other Pro Apps?

Though I am not exactly sure what could be the issue, but I would suggest to do the following and re-check again:
    - First check that you have the latest update on Motion & the security update.
    - Second most importantly, verify & repair your permissions using the Disk Utility.
    Hope that helps.

  • Aperture 3.0.1 - Fix the crashing bugs now Apple!

I'm coming from Aperture 2 and was so excited about the new brushes features that I had to buy version 3 straight away. What a mistake that was!
I can't run this version for more than about 5 mins (while using the new brushes feature) before the application becomes unresponsive or crashes out. At present I can only use the app as an expensive photo browser; no editing.
I've sent off all my automated crash reports and had a lengthy telephone call with the apple tech support, who admit there are issues. They essentially told me to turn off all the new features like faces and the location stuff (which I had done already & hey great I'm almost back to the Aperture 2 feature set). The only additional thing I was told to turn off was maintaining previews, but I still get crashes just the same.
Why was this software released in this state? Better late than harm the company reputation. I have a 1st class degree in micro electronics and have been a full time software developer myself for the past 20 years so I feel I know a fair bit about hardware & the software development cycle.
Version 3.0.1 does appear to stop the mouse pointer freezing & jumping around when using brushes, however I feel that it may be crashing more for me when the app inevitably goes off on one of its never ending "processing..." task cycles. I've captured a few samples of the app in this state using the activity monitor and sent them off to apple support as instructed. So hey do I get a wage for being an Aperture QA/tester? The free Lightroom Beta is better product than this official Apple release.
I've asked for my money back, but since I've opened the box & installed (which you have to do to find out that the software is not fit for purpose) they are not all that responsive to the idea. If the software is unusable even a month after it's first release then I think I have the right to recovering my hard earned cash. What do yo think? The forums are full of people with the exact same problems so I'm certainly not alone.
I fear the constant crashing and resetting is going to corrupt my computer's hard disk, so I am therefore no longer going to use the Aperture product until there is another and more stable release.
Hmm I thought I'd feel a little better after a rant, but nope still frustrated.

My experience has been pretty good so far, but I felt I was lacking performance. I decided to up the game in my Mac Pro and installed a WD Velociraptor as a boot and app drive, and a WD 640 Black RAID-0 (two drives at the moment, a third going in soon) - boy is everything snappy and fast - even Aperture 3 is super-super responsive and quick now - love it.
However, since today, it keeps crashing. Most likely some damaged file as it keeps trying to load my "Greenland" pictures and somehow doesn't manage it. I've got about 10 seconds in which I can see and select other albums or folders, but I can not stop Aperture from processing the "Greenland" images. Does not matter if I run Aperture in 32 or 64bit mode and whether or not I boot into 32 or 64bit. Just now re-installed the 10.6.2 combo too, nothing is better...
It repeatedly crashes, only with this library, but hey, it's my main library and I'd like it to work so I can get rid of images I no longer need. I am so not doing any complete re-install so save those comments
Usually when one thing stops working, it's because something has changed in the system. I did install a USB "keyboard" in the form of a Belkin n55te, which I will now uninstall to see if it makes a difference.
Below's the crashlog if anyone of you techies can point me to something to try - would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    J.

    Hi all,
    Configuration : iMac Mac Intel 10.5.1/iTunes 7.5 (release19)
It's very easy to reproduce :
open iTunes click in the left bottom on Show Item artwork (Illustration of Now Playing)
    click in it
    => iTunes crashing
Anybody else have this crash ?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

  • Kudos for Fixing an Old Crash Bug

For a very long time, with Ps CS5 and CS4 whenever I would try to use Photomerge directly with raw files as input I would occasionally see Photoshop just crash out or quit without any message (maybe 1 in 4 times).  So to increase chances of success I just got in the habit of exporting PSD files from Camera Raw, then running Photomerge on those PSD files.  That worked well enough and wasn't much trouble.
But I consciously stopped doing this workaround with Photoshop CS6 during the beta, then with the release, and I'm happy to say that every one - every single one - of my panos made directly from raw files with Camera Raw 7 has been successful.
Whomever fixed it, however you fixed it - you DID fix it.  Thank you!

To see if the drive tray will come out, try starting up the iMac with the mouse button held down.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2097
When i turn it on i get the grey screen with the flashing "finder" icon and a question mark. It appears that this confirms the bad hard drive.
Actually, that just means the Mac cannot find a system to boot from; the hard drive may be fine. It just does not have any OS installed on it.
would i then be able to use the reinstall discs from my powerbook to put os x 10.4 on the imac?
If you are getting Leopard for the PowerBook, there is no legal reason you cannot use its Tiger license on the iMac. Actually doing so might be somewhat tricky, since the disc from the PowerBook probably will not boot the iMac.
You should be able to do it using FireWire Target Disk Mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Start up the iMac as described. Using a FireWire cable, connect it to the PowerBook. If the iMac's hard drive is working, it should appear on the PowerBook's Desktop as an external FireWire drive. If it does not appear, run Disk Utility and see if it needs to be mounted or formatted.
Note: For the rest of this to work, the PowerBook must be PowerPC. All "PowerBooks" are PowerPC, but if you were calling an Intel MacBook a "PowerBook," this will not work.
If the iMac's hard drive does appear, it is probably OK. You should run Disk Utility and do a +Repair Disk+ on the iMac's hard drive. Or you may just want to use the Erase tab to reformat the hard drive.
At this point, you can just restart your PowerBook from its Tiger installation disc. Use the PowerBook to run Installer. Be sure to Target the iMac's hard drive (not the PowerBook's internal drive) for the installation. Once installation is complete, let the PowerBook restart from the installation it just performed. Go through the setup screens, then shut down. Disconnect the two Macs and restart the iMac normally. It should start up using the Tiger installation performed by the PowerBook.
