Create a Pattern in Photoshop CS5

Hi
I can't create a Pattern of a selection area. When I try to create the Pattern at Edit->Define Pattern, this option isn't available.
I will tell you the steps I'm taking:
->Create a new doc and use Paint Bucket Tool to paint it with Black (this is the background).
->Then I create a new layer and with the rectangular marquee tool I do a square.
->Keeping the selection I press cmd+backspace and the square becomes white.
->Keeping the selection I do a Stroke with 2px, color black and option Inside.
->Then I go to Edit to define a pattern of that square, however the Define Pattern option is gray, so I can't use it.
Does someone knows why this is happening?

I can't offer any help because the steps you are providing should make it possible to define a pattern.
If it is a glitch you could try to make Photoshop behave by resetting the Preferences file:
In Photoshop 6 and up, hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac) immediately after (or while) launching Photoshop. A prompt will ask if you want to delete the preferences file. Click Yes.

Simple halftone patterns in Photoshop CS5 - I've done it before but cannot find it again

Hi all,
I'm using Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS X. Last year I created an artwork including colour half tones, but also some other simple halftone filter that I applied to layers of solid colour (see attached image - you may need to view it at 100% to see what I mean)
It's a simple half tone pattern of white vs 1xcolour using either circles or squares. I remember that this was applied simply, not any special process as I didn't go out of my way to create this effect I just stumbled upon it. I can't for the life of me remember how to do it again. Has anyone else come across this? If anyone can point out how it's done that would be much appreciated.

The Filter>Sketch>Halftone Pattern seems consistent in getting the square pattern, but very inconsistent in getting circles, as you mentioned.
You could make your own pattern or see if one of these pre-made patterns work.

NEED HELP. Created Website Template in Photoshop CS5, but cant center it into Dreamweaver CS6

I created a website layout template in Photoshop cs5 once i opened it into Dreamweaver i was trying to Align it to Center but it would not go center still stays to the left. I know that something is not right i am missing something and i am new to this not much experience with Dreamweaver, can someone please tell me how to fix this issue in a way a beginner would understand, i greatly appreciate the help.

Did you export HTML from PShop? Graphics apps generated code is not suitable for real web pages. It's really only acceptable for quick comps to show the client before you undertake the real work of building the layout in DW with HTML & CSS code.
To center pages, you need 3 basic things.
A valid doc type declaration on the first line of your code.
A stated width in px, % or ems.
A margin-left and margin-right of auto.
Copy & paste this code into a new, blank document in DW. Save and preview in browsers.

IMO the Output Module in Bridge offers a limited number of options. If you can program some you have endless possibilities using Photoshop Scripting. I have an old 20th century programming background, don't have good understanding of object programming still I was able to hack one of Jeffrey Tranberry Photoshop scripts created for the Simpleviewer Web Gallery Flash Viewer. I Changed features and Added features and options I wanted for example Meta-data support for copyright notice, titles, description, Links, e-Mail to, EXIF etc. It was also easy to adapt this script to generate other Flash Web Galleries like WS-Slideshow.

How do I create a watermark in photoshop CS5

Hello all:
I purchased the Photoshop software CS5 and I have bee atempting to learn how to make a watermark and place it on an image.
I was working with a tutorial but came to a "roadblock" and have been unable to proceed. The following is the link:

I have not been able to get past step one. I have my logo created with a white background. I have folowed the instructions: "...go to the menu bar and select/ color range select the type". I do not understand that sentence.

Can you create an icon in Photoshop CS5.5

I need to convert a tiff image to an icon for use in another web application, can this be done? If so how?

There are plug-ins that can be downloaded and which will allow you to save files in .ico format.
A quick web search turns up these:

Photoshop CS5 creates file and then doesn't allow me to open it.

I created a file on Photoshop CS5, saved it, and now when I try to open it says: "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." How can I open the file? How come the same program cannot open its own file? Can anybody help me with this? Thanks.

That can happen in any version of Photoshop and it can be for one of at least two reasons:
1.— The file was over 2 GB in size and was saved as a PSD rather than a PSB file; or
2.— The file got corrupted. This can happen when attempting to work across a network or with Norton Anti Virus (NAV) running on your computer.
Always work locally. To open a file stored on a network volume, copy the CLOSED file in the Finder to your local hard drive first, then open the local file. Once you are done working on the image, save the file on your local hard drive, close it and copy the CLOSED file back to the server.
Sometimes, Illustrator or GraphicConverter can recover the flattened composite in a corrupted file if you're lucky, but the layers will be toast.
If the file was indeed over 2 GB and saved as a PSD rather than a PSB, I know of no way to open it.
Give us some more details of the history of the file and maybe someone else will have other ideas.

Can't print "disk error" Photoshop CS5 MacBook Pro 10.6.4

Well I used to be able to print from photoshop, and now I can't, any time I send anything to print it just says Could not print "img123" because of a disk error. No more information is available, completely flustered with Adobe's support available, seems like a maze that keeps sending me back to the beginning, no way to talk to a person on the weekend, and no way to just send an email asking for support... can't find anything in the online help or forums...

I had the same problem with all of you but cannot solve it with above solutions. I am using OSX 10.6 and CS5. I finally solved it by following below few sample steps from here:

The solution is:
Re-create the Photoshop CS5 preferences file:
Quit Photoshop CS5.
Rename the Users\\[username]\\Library\\Preferences\\Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings\\Adobe Photoshop CS5 Prefs.psp folder to Adobe Photoshop CS5 Prefs.old.
Start Photoshop CS5. Photoshop creates a new Adobe Photoshop CS5 Prefs.psp file.
Its work and now I can print all of my file. Hope this method can help you too.

Creating animated gif's in Photoshop CS5

I have created identical images in both Photoshop & .gif versions and can't get any of them to work
The images are saved in an 8 bit format. There are 8 layers. the largest version is 761px 760px.
When I get the dialog box for "save for web," no matter which version of the images I try, the animation choices are greyed out. I do not see a check box for "animate" like there is in my Elements 10 dialog box on another system. What do need to do to be able to save as an animation?

You need to ensure it's an animation in Photoshop's eyes.
An animated document is generally maintained with the frames in separate layers. For example, if you open an animated GIF, it may open each frame into a layer.
Make the Timeline panel visible (Window - Timeline).
If the animation doesn't show there, you may need to click the fly-out menu icon at the upper-right corner of the Timeline panel and choose Make Frames from Layers.

Edit: Sorry, you said Photoshop CS5. In that version it's the Animation panel. Same panel, but renamed in Photoshop CS6 to Timeline.

Cannot open file or create image in Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4 x64)

I've searched the webs and see many cases of what sounds like a similar issue, but I cannot get any of the suggested fixes to work for me.

What I've tried so far:
I've uninstalled, deleted all AppData and ProgramFiles folders, installed, updated. Still no luck. Version 12.0.4 x64.
I've removed all printers.
I've done the preferences reset trick by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT when launching Photoshop.
I've done the super weird ESC and CTRL+SHIFT+S described in the last link above (sounds like nonsense!).
Photoshop was working fine on this same computer earlier, but one day decided to stop working.
Can't even access the Adobe Chat support for CS5 even though I paid them a lot for this currently 100% useless software.
I'm running Windows 7 X64, fully updated.
Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4 x64). Freshly installed.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Can i create ADM Modeless dialog using Photoshop CS5 SDK

Hi,
I am developing a photoshop plugin using CS3 SDK. I am using ADM to create dialogs. Developing ADM Modeless dialog is not possible in CS3 SDK.
Can any one please tell me whether it is possible in CS5 SDK to create Modeless dialog. ( So that user of my plugin will be free to use photoshop even after invocation of DialogBox. )
If Modeless dialogs are not possible in photoshop using ADM,..... Is ther any other way to create modeless dialogs in photoshop ??

ADM Modeless dialog is not supported in Photoshop in any version.
Your only option to make a panel / palette in Photoshop is to use the CS SDK (CS5) or the "Photoshop Panel Developer's Guide" ( CS4 or CS5 ).

Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4) cannot open or create documents

Hello,
since today on a customers PC Photoshop CS5 does not opens any file nor creates a new document.
All other programs of the Design Standard Suite are working as they should - only Photoshop misbehaves, both the 64 bit and the 32 bit version.
Operating system is Windows 7 64 Bit on a Fujitsu Celsius Workstation with a SSD.
Photoshop does not creates any logfile nor any entry in the system event log.
What can I do to solve?

I am having this same issue. I have uninstalled & reinstalled. I have cleared preferences, I have tried running as administrator. I am now at a loss as to what to try next. I am unable to open files that I was previously able to open and edit. I cannot create new files. There are no error messages just no response. When I attempt to open a file it does appear in the recent list as though it was opened but does not open in PhotoShop CS5.
Look forward to hearing possible solutions as this is very frustrating. Was originally working and then just stopped. I have not installed any new software, a Windows Update did take place, however this issue was happening prior to the update.

Clicking a file starts Photoshop but does not open the file.
If I click "new" to make a new file, nothing happens.

I was instructed to press some key during startup of Photoshop, and it should reset the program.

Hansson, did you get a window asking you if you wanted to reset your preferences.
Maggedotno, is it the english version? Do you have third party plug-ins? Can you post the contents of help>system info?
