Create Characteristics in Material Master

Hello!!
I'm trying to create the characteristics and the values into a material master with FM 'BAPI_CFGINST_CHARCS_VALS_SET'..
but this function don't creates characteristics into my material master...
Have I other way to do this?

:(.. I want create a Characteristic value assignment into a client -specific configuration(Configure variant)
.. i can't use this FM because it's required a batch

Eg: Ford car.If a sale order is raised for fiesta lxi model the system should choose red colour & for vxi blue colour respectively.
ie you need to define the characteristic and assign the values .
This characteristic need to assigned to class.
class need to be assigned to material master
1. T.code : CT04(characteristic) FORD_MODEL, Choose single value & entry required tab & give the input as 01 - fiesta_lxi & 02 - fiesta_vxi.( characteristic values)
2.Tcode: CT04, FORD_BODY( another characteristic)
Choose single value , don't click entry required.
01 - Red( characteristic values)
02- Blue
3. Create class T.code : CL02
fiesta_class
type : 300
4. OBJECT DEPENDENCY:
T.CODE : CT04
FORD_MODEL
CLICK VALUES TAB,
IN FIESTA_LXI CLICK THE 'O' meant for Obj dependency, action & extra.
Edit the dependecy,
010 $Self.ford_body = '01'. & save
Repeat the same for FIEST_VXI & instead of '01' give '02' for blue colour.
, then create a ROH as ford_body. & a KMAT material for the car. .
Then create a Super BOM with usage 3 & give component as ford_body
Then use T.code cu41 (Create config profile)
enter a profile name & class 300 & choose class assignment, choose fiest_class ,
Use T.code cu50 to check the values.
Then create a sale order.

Activation of Batch Characteristics in Material Master

Dear Gurus
In Material Master the character values are in grey mode and not allowing to select.can anyone suggest how to activate this.
other characters are in Blue colour.

In material master you can assign the class in the classification view, it will provide the characteristics, that will flow when you do the receipt there you can enter the values or Create Batch-MSC1n and Change batch MSC2n, you can enter the characteristics values,,
I dont have clue why you are trying to enter the values in material master,,,
In CL02- Create the class and assign the characteristics (Create the Charac T code CT04)
Provide more details to check further,,,

Control to create or change material master

I want to let a group person to create or change material maters only with material group 16. I found an auth. obj. M_MATE_WGR, and set activity as *, while activity goups as 16. But the nothing happened when I change a material with material group 17. It seems this auth. obj. is not checked while change material master. Does any idea for this case? How to let the system check this auth. obj.?

Adding to what Sudipta has said, you can also use the workbook technique for accomplishing these type of changes. That way you can achieve all hover text changes in one shot across all MA tabs.
The 2 main tabs in the wokbook to be changed are: 'Localized Resource' and 'UI overrides' tab.
As an example, suppose you want to add the following text for Master Agreement External Category field:
"This field is a classification hierarchy to describe the products or services of the event and/or agreement."
So in the Localized resource tab, fill out the following:
BUNDLE: custom
RESOURCE_ID: xxx
RESOURCE_KIND: APP_TEXT
DEFAULT_VALUE: This field is a classification hierarchy to describe the products or services of the event and/or agreement.
Then refer the same attributes in the UI Overrides tab:
UI_ID: contracts.agreement.ui.buyside.default
FIELD: EXT_CAT
ATTRIBUTE: Description
VALUE: Same as Resource ID used in localized resource (xxx above)

Create PO without material master

Hello guru
When we should create PO without material , no dout materail group willbe assigned to valluation class , then accounting document is generated ,so my case is when u do the PO without material is it necessary to do GR, in this position any movement type is hitting are not iam confused plz clarify problem
(without material creat Po means is it right na to assign mat group to val class imgmm-purchasingmaster data---entry aids for items without material master)
here GR is possible are not plz give me clear picture on this)

Hi,
If you create a PO without material you have the option of having a GR or no GR (it also depends on the configuration of the account assignment category).
Check the item delivery tab and you will see if you can change the flags
You can have no ticks and so no GR would be posted and all fanance postings happen at GR.
You could have the GR flag ticked and so all financial postings happen at GR stage.
You couldhave the GR flag AND the GR non-valuated flag ticked and this means a GR would be required but no financial postings will take place until invoice stage.
If a material master was involved then you you can still do the above but only if the account assignment category is NOT blank.

How do I find who created a particular material master record?

How can I find who created a material master record when it was created? I've looked in the item changes log and all it shows is changes, not when the material was created.

You can use SE16 + MARA. Field ERSDA will show you the desired date.
In MM03 there's an icon: white 'i', background blue. Please click on it.

I want to delete a record an EAN record(MEAN table entry) available in addtitional data tab in Basic data in Material master.
I am making use of the BAPI BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA - to delete the record..
However I am not able to do the same ..,
Kindly guide me what all details needs to be passed,, to do the same ...
I cannot delete directly from MEAN table...

Hi,
Pass the details in the table INTERNATIONALARTNOS of the BAPI.
Set the deletion indicator field DEL_FLAG to delete teh record.

Table where system create attachment in material master

Dear guru ,
In MM02 I can create attachment and import external files.
In which table are stored the attachments list for every material code ?

The images are stored in table TOA01. You can populate the Object type and Object ID fields to get a list of materials and the types of attachments.

Create Views in Material Master Through WOrkflow?

Hello all,
I have to trigger a WF(WOrkflow) once a Material is Created through MM01 and then have to send individual workitem to each user who ar eauthorized to create those views. I'm using BUS1001006 and here based on the Material type i need to create specific Views. Could anyone help me in fixing this issue and need to do dynamically.

MM01 Create New Material Master without Basic view

Hi,
The SAP system allow us to create a new material master Purchasing View only (without Basic views). We execute T-code MM01, select Purchasing view only, enter the purchasing view data and save. Material master created with only the Purchasing view.
We want to control whereby Basic view must be created first before any plant/organisation material views (Sales, purchasing, Accouting etc) can be created. That means user cannot create Purchasing view ONLY if the Basic views is not created, can this be done??

For most of the standard SAP material types the basic data 1 view is configured as mandatory, but that can be turned off in the configuration. The first place I would look would be in SPRO under 'Logistics - General -> Material Master -> Basic Settings -> Material Types -> Define Attributes of material types'. In this transaction, highlight the material type being used and click on the magnifying glass. The section 'User departments' shows what views can be created for a material. You need to check 'Basic Data' is selected here.
If that isn't the problem, then I would suggest that you look at the screen sequence and also the field selection configuration for the material type, which you can find under 'Logistics - General -> Material Master -> Configuring the Material Master'. This configuration dictates what fields are shown on the material master and the status of each field, i.e. whether it is mandatory or not.

Material Master data distribution using the Classifications

Hi All,
I am attempting to cater for a business scenario where we wish to distribute material master records via IDOCS by assigning a class to each material we wish to send out.
We have a new classtype (Z01) which is setup for distribution purposes (the status for this class type has been maintained). I have defined a filter using classes in BD60.
The next step was to setup the distribution model for my message type and partner. I added the filter group in the distribution model for the message type (filter group "dependant on class membership"). The final step after generating the partner profile was to assign a new class that I created to the material master.
We are using change pointers and BD21 to create the IDOCs. I am managing to create the outbound IDOC but I am getting a 29 Status with an error message "Class type Z01 , receiving system ZFR001 : no list maintained". ZFR001 is the name of the external partner. The name of the class that has been assigned to the material master is also ZFR001. There are no characteristics assigned to the class.
Has anyone setup a similar scenario? I'd appreciate any guidance as I have hit a bit of a wall.

The message type to send HR data is HRMD_A, i don't think that filtering this only message you achieve what you describe.
In this message type, yo can define filters to send only the relevant infotypes that you need, but all of them will be send in the same idoc, for one employee.
So I think to achieve what you want, you should create customer Message types (Z's) as reductions of HRMD_A standard message type and then in BD64 create one different Model for each one. So in each model you can put only the infotypes you want. You should very carefull with the updating in your destination system, because if you process all the message type at the same time, there will be a lot of blocking in employee objects.
It is weird what you want to do, but this could be the solution.
