Create file global in labVIEW

I have a VI, which is called in TestStand. The VI starts new executions according to a test.ini files. It means, the VI is running until all the seqeunces are done.
In the beginning of this VI I create new FileGlobals. My problem is, that I see the new FileGlobals just after the VI finishes to run. I want to see the changes during the VI is running.

I create the file globals once when the VI starts, and I also set their values. Then the VI starts some new executions (sequences) in the sequence file, where my VI is called from. During those new execution I watch the new file globals, which should be there as I created them programmatically. But the new file globals cannot be whatched, because it seems they are not created.
When all my new executions are done, the VI stops, and then I see immediately the new file global in the whatch viewer in the sequence editor.

  • How to program File Globals?

I modified the text sequence editor to suite my requirements.
I created a "Action" custom type which intern is calling the labview code. I want to pass some numeric value to this function (this numeric value I want to define as FileGlobal.number)
    Any suggestion.

    Vidula,
    1. Create the FileGlobal as a numeric.
    2. In your vi, pass your numeric output to the connector pain.
    3. In Teststand step, use Specify Module (Reload Module for updated vi) and write this numeric output to the file global using expression.
    Should be that easy.

  • How to create files with read/write privileges for everyone?

I have two iMacs 7,1 (one with Snow Leopard and the other with Mountain Lion) in a local area wireless network.
I have shared the "documents" folder in the Snow Leopard iMac in order to have files available to the other iMac. The folder has read/write privileges for everyone.
When I create a new file in the shared "Documents" folder (for example a new Open office document, or a Keynote presentation) this file is by default "read/write" for the Administrator but only "read" for all the other users, so when I try to open it from the other iMac, I am informed that the file is "read only".
I can obviously change the privileges of the file in the information window, but I have to do on a file per file basis and this takes too long.
Is it possible to change settings in order to create files which are always "read/write" for everyone?
And, secondly, since I have several existing files whose privileges I should manually change one by one, is it possible to make global changes of their privileges?
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards

couple of different changes - 1st, if you want to share folders, doing your whole documents folder is not the best way.  Since both your computers can handle AidDrop, that's what I would recommend - http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/14/how-to-use-airdrop-in-mac-os-x/ - as it create an instant Ad-Hoc network between the two computers and then let's it done.
A second possibility that may not be what you're looking for, is to use google drive or some similay cloud sharing app to sync the documents back and forth.  both of these solutions will transfer the files well, but the airdrop may be simplest

You've asked this question before, and so far have shown nothing to indicate that you've made any attempt to solve the problem by using the tools available to you. Like the functions palette. Or the search tool, since this question has been asked many times before.
Have you looked in the File I/O palette? There's the New Directory function for creating directories. There the File/Directory Info function that can be used to check if the folder exists (call the function, and if you get error 7 you know the folder doesn't exist). You can also use List Directory on the parent directory.
    Make an effort.

  • Error while creating KM Global Service

    Hi Experts,
I have created one KM Global Service from the <b> com.sap.netweaver.kmc.globalservice.zip</b> file.  I have downloaded this zip file from <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/nw/netweaver-developers-guide-2004s/NetWeaverDevelopersGuide2004s_Documents/KM_articles_new/examples/index.html">SAP Developer's Guide</a>.
I have created the Global Service project by importing this zip file as <b> Multiple Existing Projects into workspace</b> in NWDS 7.0 SP 9....
I have referenced all the jar files to the project, no errors in the project....
When i try to deploy this project, i am getting the error in the view description as below:

    Hi Praveen,
Thanks for your reply and i have awarded points to you.  I can able to deploy the Global Service after renaming <b>install</b> instead of <b>local</b>.  But the Global Service is a little complex.  If you (or anybody) have any coding for global service, please send me (My MailID is: [email protected] ) or paste the code here.

  • LV 8.2.1 reinstallation error 1301: Cannot create file

    Hi,
I was forced to uninstall LV 8.2.1 and reinstall it. When I'm reinstalling LV 8.2.1 I get an error message
Error 1301. Cannot create file ". A directory with the same name already exists. Cancel the install and try installing to a different location.
    (Abort, Retry, Ignore).
This error is somehow related to the fact that after uninstalling LV 8.2.1 LabVIEW 8.2 installation directory still remains with some stuff in the user.lib and other folders. I'm always using OpenG packages and I didn't uninstall them so that may be the reason. I also used DataAct class browser with LabVIEW.
The problem is that I cannot uninstall my OpenG packages before I can get my LabVIEW installed again as VI Package Manager reposinsible for installing OpenG packages doesn't work without installed version of LabVIEW. And I cannot get my LabVIEW correctly installed because of this error. I can press ignore and the installation procedes but I don't know whet it didn't do because of the error.
I guess this error is a bug in LV 8.2.1 isntaller so would some of NI application engineers help, please.
    For now I press Ignore.

You will get this error if the installer is trying to install a file that has the same name as a folder at that location. For example lets say the installer has a file called "sample" that should go in LabVIEW\examples folder. Now lets say there was a folder called "LabVIEW\examples\sample". Windows wont let you copy that "sample" file in the same location that contains a "sample" folder. The failure is not an error in the installer.
The problem with the 8.2.1 installer is that it is not telling you what file this failure occurred on. It is trying to, but the string is not formatted correctly and it just says "cannot create file ." The actual file name should be where the "." is.
You can usually tell what file it failed on from the text above the progress bar where it says what file is being copied. The best way to see what failed was to get an installation log file.

  • Write to text file. Append to existing file. Create file if file doesn't exist.

    Hi folks,
up to LabVIEW 7 there was a wonderful "Write to Text File" vi which allowed the option "Append to File". Now, in LabVIEW 8, this old vi is not longer supported anymore. Instead, I am suggested to use a new "Write to Text File" vi. This vi does not offer the option "Append to File" anymore. Rather it is proposed in the online help that one should use the "Set File Position" in order to append text to the file. This much less straightforward than the old solution. Furthermore, I miss an option which would create the complete path if it doesn't exist yet.
To summarize: Isn't there really any smart "Write to Text File" vi available which offers both the options "Append" and "Create path if file does not yet exist". Of course, I could write such a file on my own but I am sure that it is of such general interest that it already exist. In any situation, when a log file shall be written, the wanted vi would be ideal.
    Thanks a lot,
    Peter

    Ray,
I know that the old vi is still available. See the screenshot which I attach to this message. What I am missing is an option "Create file or even complete path if file or path do not yet exist.". Is there any reason why NI doesn't provide neither this option nor a simple "Append to file" functionality in the new "Write to Text File" vi?

    Peter

  • "error building executble. unable to create file."

    Hello!
When I try to run or Build an Pocket PC application i get thes message: "error building executble. unable to create file."
    I have installed:
    LAbview 8
    Microsoft embedded visual c++ 4.0
    Microsoft Pocket PC SDK
    PDA Module 8
Does anyone have a clue wats wrong?

The builder is missing the C compiler and the linker from Microsoft for the emulator target.
On my system they are located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft eMbedded C++ 4.0\EVC\wce420\bin. Check on your computer.
I couldn't find a place where to set this path (remember: I have 7.1, 8.0 may support this settings, although it's not likely).

  • Unable to create File System Repository manager

    Hello,
I would like to create File System Repository manager to this path: I have mapped a certain Network drive "
main-uni-fs1\pictures$" to the Portal Machine and under this machine it appears as drive "N:\", inside it there is a picture folder which I would like to create the mapping to. I tried setting the "Root Directory" value to "N:\" and to "
main-uni-fs1\pictures$" but I keep receiving an error message at the Repository Component Monitor (see below).
    10X,
    Roy

    Hello Roy,
1> Create a new path that points to the pictures directory on the system. Enter the path lik
    mypc.myorg.com\pictures
Under Sys admin -> Sys Config -> KM -> Content MGT -> Global Services -> Network path
Under the user name and password, enter your username and password
username whould be entered like domainname\username
2>Then create a system in for the mypc.myorg.com server under
Sys admin -> Sys Config -> KM -> Content MGT -> Global Services -> System landscape definitions -> System -> Windows Sytem.
(Assuming u are acessing a windows sytem from a portal running on windows platform).
You need to enter system id and description . Kindly remember the system id, since it would be useful in two places while usermapping and creating the file system repository.
3>create a file system rep mgr under
Sys admin -> Sys Config -> KM -> Content MGT -> Repository Managers > File System Repository
    Following properties are most important.
Name , ACL manager cache, Security manager(which you would have to set to W2kSecurity manager)
prefix(this is the folder name that you will identify your repository with) Widws landscape System (this is the sytem id of step 2) and root directory (network path of first step only in this case enter it like this //mypc.myorg.com/pictures)
4>Then under user mapping section, you will find you system (the system id of second step) , enter your name as password.
Initially when you configure your rep manager, you dont need to start ur servlet engine. If you modify any property then you need to re start ur servlet engine.
These are the steps for creating repository
If this still does not get resolved. Then kindly read the limitations of creating the file system repository manager in the link that I had posted in my earlier post.

  • Create a melody with Labview/ Function Generator

Hi (first sorry for poor english, not my native language)
I have a project at school which is creating a melody using Labview and a function generator. I've worked on it for hours now and i still can't get through it.
I joined the vi file with my post so you can get a look at what i've done so far.
First, i do'nt know which loop i have to use (u'll understand soon enough if u just take a look at the vi file), the problem is that i want to create 4 arrays using 2 text files.
The first one is used as a reference : exemple the frequency to play an A is 440Hz, so my first text file looks like that :
    A 440
    B 493
the second one is my melody, which includes the notes and the tempo (in ms)
     , so it's like :
    B 1000
    C 1500
I used the first two loops to seperate each string lines of my files so I have at the end 4 different arrays. One containing the note's references, one containing the frequency, one containing my melody's notes and one containing the duration of each notes.
The problem is that when I use a while loop, it seems that my arrays are not containing every elements it should, it only has the last one. Just try to run the vi file.
Could anyone give me some help ? Don't hesitate to ask more questions if u didn't fully understand my problem !
    Thx

    Hi claudeuntel,
Your array contains just the last note because at each for loop iteration a new table is created.
You have to send the table you created at one iteration to the next one.
To do this you can use shift register.
I didn't have tested the VI below but it should looks like that.

  • Can I create a dll from labview with more that one function name

I know that when I create a dll from C and then call it in labview using the call library function node I can see the different functions on the configuration screen. Is there a way to create a dll in labview to have more than one function name? No matter how many functions happen in my VI it seems to build into a dll under the same function name requiring inputs for every function, can this be avoided somehow?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Each function corresponds to a separate VI. When creating the dll, on the Source Files tab of the app builder, click the Add Exported VI for each VI that you want. SubVIs of a main are not automatically exported and will not be available as separate function calls.

  • How do you create a program in Labview that can be run as a Windows Service?

I would like to create a Labview program that can be run as a Windows service.  I have read the following Knowlegebase articles and have done what they say.
Creating a Windows NT Service Using LabVIEW http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3185/en
    Running a LabVIEW Application as a Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2008/7  User-Defined Service http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/21BA0F671A63A60386256CB4004DF99B
When trying to start the service I get an error that says the program didn't respond to the start in a timely manner.  I also set the "run when opened" parameter in the VI.  I am programming in Labivew 2010, proffesional version.  The server is running Windows Server 2008.  Can anyone help?  Is the ini file important in Windows Server 2008?

I haven't looked through all those links.  But I have created Windows Services from LabVIEW executables way back when WinXP came on the market.
The problem with services is that they have no UI.  So you can't really see what is going on.  Your EXE might be failing or hanging due to some kind of error (most liklely a security/permissions error), but you can't see the error.  So my advice is to either:
    1.  Have your EXE write lots of info to a log file.  Write info that log every step in the application.  If an error ocurrs, have it write the error info to the log file.  That is a very useful debugging tool.
    2.  Use VI Server functions to monitor the service to see what is going on.

I want to creat a global function. Can you tell me here i have to type my function.
    Thanks

In the hierarchy view, click on the root node, then right click and you will see insert Scripting Object as an option.
Also this is well described in the help files as to how it works.

  • Disable buffering open/create file in PXI target generates error 6

    Hello,
I have a question regarding enable/disable Windows I/O buffering stream in Open/create file. When I disable buffer on the host computer, under Win XP, no problem (apart of sending multiple of 512 bytes size as data size). But if I do the same on the PXI target, I receive error 6 from Open/Create File vi. Does it mean I can't enable unbuffered data transfer on the PXI target? if it's the case, I have a big amount of data (6 MB) coming from a RT FIFO Shared variable, and I would like to store it in a file inside HDD of my PXI controller, so, what is the best to do?.
    Thanks a lot
    Antoine

    Hi Antoine,
actually this was reported as bug to NI as CAR #240261. You should set it to False to let the error go away. The RT OS doesn t support caching.
    Please read this KB.
