Create Parameters in a worksheet in Discoverer PLUS OLAP

Am i missing something here or is there a way to create parameters in Discoverer Plus OLAP (not Plus relational) . I have searched all the options in the menu, but no luck.
I know i can pass values from OLAP PLUS to Relational as parameters to the relational worksheet. That is not what i want to do.
I want to create parameters in a worksheet created using BI Discoverer PLUS OLAP.

You are right - you cannot yet create parameters on olap reports in Discoverer. This is a feature planned for a future release.
Thanks

  • Discoverer Plus OLAP

    Hi all,
    We are looking at possibly using Oracle Discoverer Plus OLAP. Our database is Oracle Database Server 10g Enterprise Edition (with OLAP option).
    Is Discoverer Plus OLAP part of this? Or is it a separate product? Or can I -only- get it by purchasing Oracle BI EE (which is expensive and more than we need)?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Kind Regards,

  • How to pass parameter to a Discoverer Plus OLAP Worksheet??

    Hi,
    I have used discoverer plus OLAP and portal to develop executive dashboards in my company. I put my date dimension in Page Item of discoverer plus OLAP worksheet to view a specific week/month/year of analysis i.e. Jul-07.
    Now I have to open all the worksheets and change the page item value when week/month ends. If it was 'Jul-07' then I have to change it as 'Aug-07'.
    In discoverer plus OLAP we can't pass parameters as we can in discoverer relational.
    Can someone help me how I can set the new values without opening discoverer worksheets?
    Regards,
    Shahid

    Dear Shahid,
    I downloaded the Oracle Application Server SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0. While installing It gave me two options
    1. Basic Install
    Install J2EE server and SOA suite of applications including BPEL, ESB
    and OWSM.
    2. Advance Install (This gives 4 options)
    a. J2EE Server, Web Server and SOA suite
    b. J2EE Server and Web Server
    c. J2EE Server
    d. Web Server\
    According to your instructions I need to install it as Insfrastructure, BI and portal. Now can you tell me which option of the install I should select in order to meet the requirements of Infrastructure, BI and Portal.
    Because I am very new in this technology so If you can guide to me to get started at least then I can follow the Oracle Tutorial for further training.
    Thanks very much in this regards.

  • Pass parameter to a link in Discoverer plus OLAP

    Hi,
    I have a worksheet 'test1' created in discoverer plus olap. I want to drilldown from 'test1' to display worksheet 'test2' based on the dimesion value of 'test1' as parameter.
    Can anybody help regarding this ?
    Thanks
    SA

    You can create a condition for sheet2, based on a subquery on sheet1.
    That condition looks something like:
    column_in_sheet2_you_want_to_filter_on IN
    (subquery on column_in_sheet1_you_want_to_filter_on)

    Hello
    Do you have a copy of my Discoverer 10g Handbook? If so, chapter 16 on pages 548 to 612 cover OLAP in some detail. This chapter was written by Mark Rittman, OLAP expert extraordinaire.
    He also runs a blog which you may find to be of some help: http://www.rittmanmead.com/blog/
    There is at least one Oracle by Example which may help: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/discoverer/discoverer_1012/index.html
    There are also some Oracle demonstrations on OLAP on the bottom right hand side of this page: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/discoverer/index.html

  • Cannot conect to Discoverer Plus OLAP (D4O-1014 error)

    Hello everybody,
    On a laptop WindowsXP, 1G RAM, 3GHZ I have installed:
    - oracle database 9.2.0.1.0 upgraded to 9.2.07 (dbname=HOMEDB, sid=SIDHOMEDB, hostname=aspire3000); all 9.2.0.7 OLAP patches are applied
    - business intelligence 10g 10.1.2.0 (and the BI Tools)
    - business intelligence 10g samples version 10.1.2.0.0_c
    I cannot connect to Discoverer OLAP.
    I try to connect to the sample data using:

    SID: homedb (Regarding the value for SID: my database's sid is sidhomedb, but when I insert sidhomedb as value for SID while connecting to PLUS I receive error: "Insert a valid SID", so instead I insert the dbname: homedb)
    I receive the following error: D4O-1014 unknown exception while connecting to database.

    Hi! Keith,
    I have the same problem as this one but while accessing oracle database through JDBC. The solution you suggested is to rename database instance since length of instance name is more than 8.But in my case I ket the instance default to xe.Still I am getting same exception while I accessing database through JDBC.Fo your reference I am giving stack trace.

  • OracleBI Discoverer Plus OLAP

    Hi
    I need to use Discoverer for OLAP. I have installed BI and BI Tools, but I have there only Discoverer, not Discoverer Plus..
    I dont understand where can I get Discoverer Plus...
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Marketecka

    Hi Aparna
    You're obviously using Discoverer 4i which uses an older method of connecting. In this method you have to supply the full path and file name of the file being used to launch Discoverer on the URL. You have no choice but to run this path. However, you could create a proxy for it.
    In newer versions the path and file name are all embedded configuration files within the application server, thus you only have to pass a port and the application name. The system then looks in its configuration files to determine the path and which file to run.
    Having to use Netscape rather than IE is one of the oddities of 4i. While the IE connector may well work, it was noticed a long time ago that the Netscape file was far more robust. This is because when 4i was written the version of IE at the time was 6.0.28n pack 1 which could not handle JInitiator very well when called using standard IE commands. Seeing as the IE of the day could run the Netscape commands, the rest is history.
    By the way, as a side issue, you need to upgrade ASAP because 4i is about to be desupported. I place a new posting on my blog last night which might help understand the Discoverer versions:

  • How can I create a Title for the worksheet in Discoverer Plus

    Dear members,
    I am using discoverer 4i Plus to create workbooks. I am not finding an option to insert a title for the worksheet. In Discoverer Desktop we have a separate option to insert or edit a title. I am not sure how can we create titles in Plus.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Sandeep

    Hi,
    I am not able to login to Discoverer Desktop Using my Applications username. My Desktop Version is 4.1.37. The same username works in Discoverer 4i Plus and i can create workbook there.
    I went to Tools--->Options--->Connections and checked the option connect to both standard and application EUL's and while i am logging in i checked the small box which comes in the login screen. I do not know why this happening.
    I am also able to login as the database user in Desktop but not as an application user.
    I want to login into desktop as an application user and create a template workbook which has title and then assign that workbook to a particular responsibility since creating title cannot be done in Plus.
    I am not sure what's going wrong here because the Desktop works for database user but not for an application user. Any comments are highly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Publishing Discoverer plus OLAP worksheets on Portal with 10g Rel 2

    Hi,
    I am getting an error (red cross sign in a circle) in the beginning of Discoverer OLAP worksheets when i tries to publish them on Portal. I have 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.2.0) database (Unix) and 10.1.2 AS (Windows) on production server.
    I have developed the same dashboards on development server without having any problem but I used the infrastructure database (10.1.0.4) rather then using seperate database server.
    I would appreciate if someone can help.
    Regards,
    Shahid

    Hi,
    Have you given the user SCOTT access to the Discoverer Catalog? This is done via the Application Server Control for the BI Instance that you have created, ie, http://hostname:18100
    Click on the Discoverer hyperlink, followed by the Administration tab, and then the manage link. Enter your credentials and then click on Authorize Users and Roles. You should then be able to give access for selected users and roles to the discoverer catalog.

    Gary

  • BIB-9010 Index Out-Of-range Discoverer Plus OLAP

    In dialog 'Edit Worksheet', clicked 'Dimensions', expanded 'Available' members and moved all items to 'Selected' members.
    Applied and save changes - no error.
    When trying to select a member from the dimension, keep getting error:
    oracle.dss.d4o.common.D4OException: BIB-9010 Index out of range in metadata cursor for edge, dimension, and index: 2, 2, and -1127087488.
    oracle.dss.util.SliceOutOfRangeException: BIB-9010 Index out of range in metadata cursor for edge, dimension, and index: 2, 2, and -1127087488.
    What is causing this error since generating it does error out, but vieweing does?

    There is a Discoverer patch for this issue - 5613003. You can download it from Metalink. I would check the bug listed matches the issue you are experiencing with your system.
    Hope this helps.

  • Discoverer Plus OLAP (D4O) - Export to Excel  vs. Open Office

    Hej dear experts,
    following issue: we`re using D4O (Version 10.1.2.54.25) and have many users, who want to use the "Export to Excel" function.
    As we don`t run MS Office, but Open Office, the function "Export to Excel" is not available (greyed out).
    I`ve been searching forums and web for any hint, how to use Open Office instead of MS Office for this, but no hits so far.
    * associating xls file with Open Office doesn`t help
    * extracting the content of d4o.jar gives me the structure, in which I was searching for a kind of configuration file, but no success (expecting xml file?)
    Obviously D4O is looking for the "EXECL.EXE" somewhere in the registry?
    Has anyone of you experiences or an idea, how to make it work with Open Office?
    Any hints and comments highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Thanks to a hint from Oracle support experts it`s working now...
    D4O checks during startup following keys in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Applications\Excel.exe\shell\Open\command<fileName>
    (or)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Applications\Excel.exe\\shell\Edit\command <fileName>
    I`ve created a registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Applications\Excel.exe\shell\Open\command\
    (Type: REG_SZ) and entered the path to scalc.exe.
    It didn`t work with scalc.exe, but after I`ve copied scalc.exe to excel.exe and changed the registry key to point to it, it works now.
    Note: it obviously needs capital letters, so I wrote it like "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program\EXCEL.EXE" , with small letters it didn`t do anything.
    Now "Export to Excel" is avalible in D4O.
    Tested successfully, the only sour note is that graphs are not properly exported or readable by OO, but this may depend on OO version 2.
    regards,
    Thomas

  • Discoverer Plus - Creating URL's with Multiple Dimension values

    We are using the "Manage Links" feature in Discoverer Plus (10.1.2.2.0) to send dimension value names in a URL. As part of the "Manage Links" feature, the user is given the opportunity to choose which dimension values for the selected cells they want to include in the URL.
    We are attempting to create URL's to drill from Discoverer Plus to more detailed Oracle Reports, which will use the dimension values in sql statements . One problem we noticed is for each dimension we can not select multiple values to send in the URL.
    For example;
    I have a URL I want to append selected dimension values from Discoverer Plus.
    We have 2 dimensions each containing 5 dimension values. We use Discoverer Plus to filter down to 2 dimension values for each dimension to be included in our url.
    Time: Nov2007, Dec2007
    Division: USCCSLT, USCCLSY
    Measure: Flux
    URL:
    https://corpdev.ffmb.com:11228/reports/rwservlet?RPT_TEST_XLS=<TIME:VALUE>, <DIV:VALUE>
    When the link executed, the EXIT URL only contains the first dimension value for each dimension. I have included the exit URL below:
    Result:
    https://corpdev.ffmb.com:11228/reports/rwservlet?RPT_TEST_XLS=Nov2007,USCCSLT
    It should contain Nov2007, Dec2007, USCCSLT, USCCLSY.
    I've tried a variety to things in the Manage Links, but it always sends out just one dimension value.
    According to the choices given in "Manage Links", it is not supposed to work this way.
    I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong, because I don't see many posts here related to creating Discoverer Plus URL's.
    If anyone encountered this and came up with a solution, I'd be interested to read your comments.
    Thanks,
    Michael

    What version of Discoverer are you running? I'm assuming 10.1.2 but I would look at the 2 URL parameters
    pluspopup and framedisplaystyle
    From the Oracle Documentation:
    When using popup in conjunction with framedisplaystyle=, the possible combinations are:
    pluspopup=true and framedisplaystyle=embedded launches Discoverer Plus in a new pop-up browser window that contains the Plus applet embedded in it.
    pluspopup=true and framedisplaystyle=separate opens a new pop-up browser window and launches Discoverer Plus in a new applet window.
    This combination launches three windows: the original browser window (i.e. Discoverer Connections page), the new browser window containing the Discoverer image, and the JFrame window containing the Discoverer Plus applet.
    pluspopup=false and framedisplaystyle=embedded launches Discoverer Plus in the current browser window.
    See if those help you out, if not let me know and we can dig into this further

    pluspopup=false and framedisplaystyle=separate launches Plus in a JFrame window. The current browser window contains the Discoverer image.

  • How to open a defult workbook from Discoverer Plus

    Hi all,
    Is it possible in Discoverer Plus for a user to open a pre defined worksheet in a workbook when he logs in without having to select the workbook and then select the worksheet?
    Please advise how to achive this.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you all.
    Yjk

    Hi Yjk
    This is possible but you will have to alter the URL call to do it and add the workbook name to the end of the URL.
    You can use either the names of workbooks and worksheet or unique IDs of workbooks and worksheets. Using unique IDs is easier and helps avoid encoding problems with long names. Unique IDs are language independent. The following are the URL parameters to use while working with workbooks and worksheets.
    Discoverer Plus Relational:
    Workbooks:
    opendbid=<workbook ID>
    opendbname=<workbook name>
    Worksheets:
    sheetid=<worksheet ID>
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer Viewer:
    Workbook:
    wbk=<workbook ID>
    wb=<workbook name>
    Worksheet:
    wsk=<worksheet ID>
    ws=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer OLAP:
    Workbooks:
    workbookname=<workbookname>
    Worksheets:
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Note: Discoverer Plus OLAP uses only workbook and worksheet names.

    To find the unique ID of a workbook, use thie workflow:
    1. Launch the Open Workbook from Database wizard
    2. Right-click the workbook name
    3. Select Properties.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the workbook.
    Alternatively, when the workbook is open, select File | Workbook Properties.
    To find the unique ID of a worksheet, use this workflow:
    1. With the worksheet open, select Edit | Worksheet Properties
    2. The Worksheet Properties dialog box opens.
    3. Click the General tab.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the worksheet.
    The following URL starts Discoverer Viewer and opens a worksheet with the unique ID "156", which is present in the workbook whose unique ID is "MONTHLY_SALES". The connection ID used is "cf_a101".
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/viewer?cn=cf_a101&wbk=MONTHLY_SALES&wsk=156
    If the connection that is used here is a private connection, the user will be prompted for the password.
    In Plus, the same command is:
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/plus?cn=cf_a101&opendbname=MONTHLY_SALES&sheet=156
    Does this help?
