Creating a PDF with a watermark from InDesign CS3

Hello,
I have a question on exporting or printing a PDF file that will have a watermark.
What I'm wanting to do is take a InDesign file (and/or Quark file) and export/print a PDF file that will be in low res and have a watermark placed on it. (for a "Review" copy)
I am aware that I can place a watermark on a PDF file with Acrobat Pro, but it seems like I need to make the PDF file first then place the watermark. I am wanting to do this in the exporting/printing step all at the same time.
Thank you any information.
Scott Isbrecht

OK, maybe I need to reword the question.
I have a full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.
I am wanting to take a file/book that is in Indesign/or Quarkxpress and make a PDF file that is in a lower quality/resolution that also has a watermark "review stamp" on at least the front cover, if not on every page. (would like it on every page)
If there is not a way to export a PDF file out of InDesign or Quarkxpress this way, can it be done by printing a .PS (postscript) file and have Distiller create the PDF file?
I would like to keep the InDesign/Quark file "As Is" in a final print ready format, and be able to produce a smaller "review" PDF with a watermark on each page of the PDF file. (watermark on cover page only would be OK)
This way there is no chance of this file making its way to a full scale printer and it being printed with a low quality PDF (review copy).
Any information would help out.
Thanks,

  • Need to create pdf with thumbnail pages from InDesign

How can I create a pdf with multiple InDesign pages on each sheet (thumbnails)? I have snow leopard, cs6. Thank you.

On a Mac, the way I like to do it is to start by generating a PDF from INDD. Open the PDF in Apple's "Preview" app. Ctrl+P. There are all sorts of options for layout — including "Pages per Sheet" under the layout option in the menu. Then, at the bottom left-hand of the print dialog box, you'll see the PDF button. After you've made your page-layout decisions, click PDF and choose your options for PDF delivery.
In the instance documented with the attached graphics, I selected "Mail PDF." The thumbnailed PDF is created and attached to a new email.
    Maybe this helps.

  • Creating a PDF with an editable section InDesign

    Hi all
I have created In design documents which i would like to dsitribute to contacts in a PDF format (they dont have indesign software) with an editable field for them to add their contact details. ...tell me this is possible pelase and how!
    Thanks

At the risk of going into Acrobat forum territory I would add two important points:
    1) If, after you created the form, you want to make changes in the original InDesign document, you need to use the Replace command in Acrobat so you don't have to redo the whole form again.
    2) When you have finalised the form you need to save the PDF in (Acrobat X) as: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features. Then users with only Acrobat Reader will be able to both fill in the form, print it and save it.
The forms can be emailed as attachments, put on a CD, whatever. You can add print and save buttons to the form - all kinds of things.
(As usual, Lynda.com has tutorials on Acrobat forms and for those in the UK, Certitec.com has excellent specialised personal training on Acrobat forms.)

  • PDF with comments crashing, using InDesign CS3

I'm using OS10.6 and switching back and forth between Acrobat Pro 9.3.4 and InDesign CS3 5.0.4.  I have Firefox running too, as well as Bridge and Word.
The PDF was originally made by me.  I email it to my client and she adds comments using her Windows PC - I don't know any more details.  She then Saves As and emails back to me.
I then open the PDF with comments and start to work through them, making amendments in InDesign, and then marking the comment with a checkmark.  The PDF seems to randomly crash - sometimes it will work fine for a while, sometimes it just won't and crashes each time I open it.  As a result of this random crashing, I'm saving after every comment I process to keep track of what comments I've done.  (EDIT) Sometimes after the crash none of the comments are checked, despite me checking them and saving the file.  V frustrating and time consuming.
    Any ideas??  Thanks.

There is a feature in interactive PDF called Show/Hide fields which may or may not give you what you want. You can create a button of an image or other object which will make another object (button) appear. Do a Google search on "Show Hide Field InDesign Tutorial"

  • Acrobat 9 pdf links not working from InDesign CS3. What is wrong?

My links are working in my 40 page Indesign CS3 file using Mac. After I convert to a .pdf, some of the links are no longer going to the right location. They have either duplicated other links, or trying to take me incorrectly to my desktop or network. Can't figure out what is wrong.

Links meant to  go to an outside website are supposed to be filled out in the following format : http://www.phillipmjones.net
in Acrobat should look something like :  This is my personal website
In Acrobat go go create you link then click on action:
(I'm using my own personal website as an example)
If you choose something else such as open a file then that is what it does.

  • Creating a PDF with a watermark

    Hello,
    I have a question about adding a watermark/stamp to a PDF file.
I have found out how to add a watermark to a PDF after the PDF has been made using Acrobat Pro.
I would like to know if there is a way to place a watermark in the PDF when exporting or printing a PDF from a Quarkxpress file or a InDesign file.
I would like to place a "Review Stamp" watermark to files in a low res, review only file.
This way people are 100% sure that the PDF file is not a Final file ready for Print.
This file will be for screen review only (low res printing if needed).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Scott Isbrecht

    Mike,
I was hoping to be able to keep the Quark file as is, and have the ability to out put a "Review" PDF.
I/we have been doing that, placing a "Review Stamp" in the bottom layer of the cover. I was hoping to automate this step, and be able to just export/print different PDF files depending on review or final.
This way when I/we make a PDF file for review, the stamp isn't forgotten about. It will place the stamp when I/we make the low res review file.
Mike thanks for the reply, we may end up going back to just placing a "Review Stamp" on the cover.
    Thanks,

  • Creating interactive PDFs with page turn, issue with PDF

I recently watch a video on adobe tv titled "indesign : creating interactive PDFs with page turn and flash animation". The video was great, simple to follow with great results, I was able to create a document with interactive page turns that was viewable in a web browser, the next step was to then create the same document but be able to view it in PDF format. I followed the above mentioned video and everything worked apart from one issue once I exported the indesign file out as an interactive PDF it opened up in adobe acrobat pro with no problem but when I went to turn the page it would lag and slow down to the point were it was almost impossible to turn the page, the page turning didn't seem to flow as well as when viewing it in a web browser. The document I am creating is a catalogue and I am happy with the interactive version for the web but I am looking at putting the catalogue on a CD/ USB and need it to open and work with PDF, it would be a great help if anyone could advise me on the reason why the interactive page turning runs so poor in PDF format. I am currently running on a very powerful computer with the adobe CS5 master suit.
Any help would be much appreciated

The page flipping is an SWF effect, so essentially you now have an entire SWF embedded inside a PDF.
If you forget about this garish effect (which, I can guarantee you, by next year will be "so 2012") you can send out a standard PDF which can be easily viewed on otherwise sub-standard computers, and using very straightforward PDF readers, such as the ones currently available for the iPad and its clones.

  • How can I restore proper PDF exports from InDesign CS3 or CS5 in Snow Leopard?

I had no problems exporting PDFs from InDesign CS3 (on a Mac Pro running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard) until this past weekend, when all the fonts appeared bitmapped or thin and raggedy, and the images lost some color depth and contrast. When I copied the InDesign document to my MacBook Pro laptop, also running 10.6.4, the PDF emerged with its original quality. Calls to Adobe support referred me to documents concerning incompatibilities between InDesign and Snow Leopard. One of these documents was several pages long, but I could not print it from the Adobe website to my HP All-In-One Officejet, because one-third of the document was hidden under a white panel. This makes the document impractical for troubleshooting, because I don't have enough screen real estate (even on a 23-inch display) to keep the document open along with all the pages and dialogue boxes needed for reference. Back to phone and chat support, I was advised to upgrade my Creative Suite Premium CS3 to CS5 ($800!!!) and purchase the latest Acrobat Pro upgrade ($200), with no guarantee that this $1,000 cost would actually solve the problem. I did download the trial version of InDesign CS5, and it did NOT solve the problem. I'm also concerned that the problem did not exist until last weekend. Prior to that, my CS3 and Snow Leopard combination worked just fine. I then checked the forums and was dismayed at the variety of problems associated with PDF files, for which there seems to be no general fix. Meanwhile, I have hundreds of ads I'm supposed to be preparing and emailing as PDF proofs to businesses around the country. I have two books of 120 and 256 pages that need to be submitted to printers in PDF format with all kinds of fonts and image files belonging to my clients. The last time I submitted a book to a printer via email, the job went perfectly. This time, and next, it's obvious I won't be able to send PDFs at all! If that's the case, my 27-year-old directory business will be unable to absorb the expenses necessary to start all over with new computers and software, and I will be out of business. Period. So-- does anyone have a way to fix this? I would surely be grateful.

I'm on a local network, built on Apple's Airport Extreme. but I'm the only computer user on it. I use it for transferring files between the desktop computer (Apple Mac Pro) and laptop (Apple MacBook Pro) and, occasionally, to print from the laptop to a Xerox Phaser printer.
About a year ago, I added an Apple Airport Express to the network, allowing me to play iTunes music from the laptop through a Panasonic BluRay player connected to a home theatre sound system. No problems of this nature appeared with that installation.
About four months ago, we connected a DirecTV satellite receiver system to the D-Link router that carries wired network service from the desktop computer to the Xerox printer. The satellite TV system includes a series of modems that allows DVR recordings to be accessed and played from any of the TVs in the house. (As you would now perceive, I run my publishing business from my home). However, this set-up has been functioning for about four months, and I did not encounter the PDF problem until last weekend.
    Now -- about the fonts.
Because of the many ads that I publish from various sponsors, it is possible that different versions of the same fonts have invaded my system. In the "missing font" alerts I get, InDesign frequently is seeking TT or T1 versions, which I replace with Adobe fonts when possible. Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium included a fairly large collection, which it keeps in one folder.  The Apple OS also includes a bunch in a separate font management folder; and there are carry-over fonts that came with the business when I acquired it 10 years ago. Some of those fonts may go back 25 years to the book's inception. However, in the past several years, I have generally rebuilt all the ads that appear in my publications, substituting newer versions of fonts. Hence, the preflight program has been able to locate and include all the necessary fonts in the packages that go to the printers.
Once again, I have been able to export good PDF files for all the varieties of ads and books included in my system, until last weekend. One of the documents is built entirely with Helvetica Narrow, for which I have only one version.. Another document consists mainly of Times, and there are 3 or 4 versions of that font in the system; but the version contained in the document has not changed from when it exported properly.
So... I guess the complexities involved in the network and/or fonts could be part of the problem, as you suggest, but golly -- I hope not. The last thing I want to do is disrupt and rebuild the network or font collections. The font situation especially would set back production for months if not years, because so many individual ads and off-site clients would be involved in the process.
I'm sorry if I provided more details than you expected. I didn't mean to take so much of your time.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
How can I give a answer back in the discussion on Adobe.com?
    I don’t see any link?
    1.      We have a subscription.
    2.      Im converting a newsletter from the web to PDF.
    3.      Sometimes I put a weblink behind the image in the newsletter. Most of the time PDF wont take the links behind the image.
    Only the tekstlinks are OK.

  • Create a Pdf with a job...

    Hi!
    A very simple question!
I have to create 9.000 pdf every month, with data present on db.
I don't want to press a button to create every pdf.
Especially, I can't keep busy the Client for all the execution.
I need to schedule this work, in every way.
Possibly, I don't want to install Report Designer on the server. But Report designer is installed on Client.
I need something like to schedule in a job the "Run product" command... but withouth the product!!!
    Is it possible?
I accept also something of different, like to schedule in windows, but.... it has to be free. Totally free.
I know how to create a pdf with reports designer, but it has to be batch and the Client has to work normally.
    Server
    System: Windows 2003
    Database: Oracle 10g
    Development
Forms Designer: 4.5.10.6.0 (yes, I know: it is very old!)
Reports Designer: 2.5.7.4.3 (yes, I know: it is older!)
    Thank you from Italy,
    Margherita

It's doable using a windows/Unix/Linux scheduler running the report as a batch.
You may find your version's help text. Here goes the 6i's....
To run a report using a command file:
1     Create a text file using a word processor of your choice.
2     Type ORACLE_HOME\BIN\RWRUN60, followed by the report name and desired arguments.
3     If you ran the report in batch mode, and sent the output to a file (DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=filename BATCH=YES), open or print the file to verify the output.

  • How to create a pdf with the correct size?

    Hi there
How do I create a pdf with the correct size? I created several albums and ordered them. Now I want to backup the album and I know how to create a pdf, but when I choose A5 it's to big, when I create my own size it's not the size it should be. The original (made with iphoto) is a small size album 200x150mm. But when I create my own size (200x150) it shows some white borders.
Does anybody have some tips ore workarounds?

    Iphoto 11 (9.4.2)

Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size.  You shouldn't have to select any size.  While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print.  Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window.  In the first print window click on the PDF button.  It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF.  That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

  • Create a PDF with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and 11 x 17 pages

Is it possible in Acrobat 10 to create one PDF with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and 11 x 17 pages? I have two PDFs, one with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and the other with 11 x 17 pages. I want to merge the two into one PDF and be able to print the 8 1/2 x 11 pages as 8 1/2 x 11 and the 11 x 17 pages as 11 x 17 from the same document.

File > Combine is the tool.
or, Open the documents side by side; open their pages panels; drag page icons from one document to the other.
Choose Paper Source PDF by Page Size allows different size papers to be selected for the printer, assuming it supports multiple paper sizes.

  • Creating a .pdf with different page views

I'm tyring to create a .pdf with different page views.  For example as the viewer goes through the .pdf some pages I would like viewed as "single page view" and others "two page view".  Is this possible?   I'm working with Adobe Acrobate Pro.  Thanks for any suggestions.

It's possible to use the Page Open actions to trigger a view mode change but it's messy - if the user tries to override them because they prefer to zoom in, etc. then they'll get very annoyed when things keep resetting.
To create a Page Open action, open the thumbnails panel, right-click on a page, choose Page Properties, then the Actions tab. You can use the Execute a Menu Item tool to fire one of the view modes.
