Creating a personal virtual desktop collection - no existing virtual desktops listed

I have 2 windows server 2012 hosts in a failover cluster. This cluster is for RDS and VDI. Attempting to create a virtual desktop collection and there are no existing virtual desktops to select, even though i have created many from a template
via System Center VMM 2012 sp1.

Cannot Reassign Virtual Desktop in Windows Server 2012 Personal Managed VDI Collection

I have a Personal Virtual Desktop Collection on my Windows 2012 server with 3 desktops created.
For testing purposes, I assigned the 3 desktops to admin users and everything was working well. I need to re-assign two of the three desktops to the actual end-users now that they are setup the way I want, and tested. I go through Server Manager - Remote
Desktop Services - Collections - Virtual Desktop and select the virtual desktops, then select Assign and enter the new AD User. It does not error, and now shows the right user assigned.
But, when I try to remote desktop for these two users, it logs into the actual Windows 2012 server, and not the virtual guest on that server.
I've rebooted the server and guests a few times, and cannot seem to get this working for these two users.
Any ideas?

Pooled - Unmanaged Virtual desktop Collection, 'Existing Virtual Desktop' blank?

I am trying to create a Pooled - Unmanaged Virtual desktop Collection on my Windows Server 2012 R2. I have created a hyper-v virtual machine with hyper-v manager.
But when I go to the server manager to add a new collection of virtual desktop, I chose the "Pooled Virtual desktop collection" radio button and also unchecked the "Automatically create and manage virtual desktops", then I hit next and
it asks me to select Existing Virtual Desktops. However the list there is blank and I don't see the VM that I created in hyper-v manager earlier.
I wonder how can I possibly fix it?

Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Did you find any specific error\event ID for this case?
If the virtual desktop does not show up, you should close the wizard, add the virtual machines by using Hyper-V Manager, and then create the collection again.
From your description it seems that there might be some configuration issue while configuration. Please try to configure the whole scenario once again and check the result. You can follow beneath article.

Updating Template on Managed Personal Desktop Collection

I've created a Personal Desktop collection in Server 2012 R2 and selected "Automatically Manage Virtual Desktops" so machines are created automatically using a template. I've successfully added several Virtual Desktops to the collection,
now I need to update the template to included new patches or software. I'm not worried about updating the existing virtual desktops because they will get the patches and software from SCCM. However, I do want the changes to be part of the template
so they are immediately there for new virtual desktops that are added. I haven't found a way to do this is the Server Manager or Powershell, there is an option for recreating pooled desktops, but no way that I see to use a different or newer template
on an existing Personal Desktop collection.
Do I need to manually export the template machine to the Collections IMGS folder and overwrite what is there? Also, it doesn't make sense to delete/recreate or make a new collection for a template update.

Thank you for contacting Microsoft.
I have discussed this issue with our team. There is no supported way to do this. You would need to update the template VM and
then re-export it, both of which have to be done manually. Some things to keep in mind though…if you just update the .vhd and you’ve changed VM Settings as well, those settings will not get picked up until the VM is re-exported.

Windows Server 2012 Pooled Virtual Desktop collection GetVMstate issue

I am trying to create a Pooled Desktop collection with my Powered off VM and it errors out The
virtual desktop must be in a stopped state: Could not identify the state of the virtual desktop. Ensure that the RD virtualisation host server is available on the network and the virtual desktop is shut down
In the debug logs it shows.
Component RdmsModel: GetVMstate for Vm Win7_BaseVM failed with error 16386
Component RDExceptionHandler: Could not identify the state of the virtual desktop. Ensure that the RD Virtualization Host server sunflower-1.HYPERQA.NUTANIX.COM is available on the network and that the virtual
desktop Win7VMSF is shut down.

When you are configuring RDVH initially, please see that you have meet prerequisites. Remember that you need these pre-requirements:
• Database based on SQL Server 2008 R2
• Static IP Address for all Broker
• Round Robin DNS
• All RD Broker must be members of AD Windows Group (es. RDCB Server Group)
• The group must be insert into SQL Server as sysadmin ONLY for the DB creation. After that DB will be created give the db_owner permission only for their DB

In addition, we need all RD Broker must have the same SQL Native Client as main SQL Server (es. SQL Server 2012 SP1). The Connection Broker server's computer account MUST be a member of the local administrators group on the Virtual Host (RDS Host) machine and

Create Desktop Collection Fails

I have been able to create desktop collections from Win7 VM templates. I created a new template and now when I attempt to create a collection the template export finishes and the creation process errors out with the following message:
On the back end in the event log I see these errors:
Remote Desktop Virtualization Host could not load metadata for the virtual machine named
Windows 7 Enterprise Production Template.
Remote Desktop Virtualization Host could not retrieve a section in the virtual machine
metadata XML file for the virtual machine with the GUID of
0387662E-2EAC-4090-9FA7-AA5D561737D3.

Can someone point me in the right direction to what is wrong with my template?

From the error description it seems that RD Virtualization host can’t load the data for virtual machine template. Apart If you're using Windows 7 as the template VM, it needs to be Windows 7 SP1 and you should update the integration components on the VM before
you sysprep it. However for a try if possible then try to reinstall and verify.

RDS 2012 - Virtual desktop collection with powershell and custom answerfile fails on VDI deployment

I try to deploy a new virtual desktop collection with Win8 VDI's (pooled/managed) based on a custom answer file. Everything needs to automated so working with the server manager is not an option, that's why the answer file is needed.

Without the answer file parameter is runs perfectly, BUT the VDI machines get the OOBE.... That's not what we want off course....

I am looking to have all my files in one place as i am hopelessly disorganised. I know the online clouds are a good solution (used Dropbox at work and uni for 3 years) however i am wanting to create my own 'dropbox/icloud' at home. So whenever i get back home with my laptop, any work i have been working on whilst out that day is updated to the timecapsule, and then ultimately as i turn on the other devices, they update to those newer versions of the files. Please tell me that the 3TB time capsule i have can do this, otherwise it feels rather overpriced as a wireless storage device?
Another note (to those in the know) If i am to be working on large files (REVIT/SOLIDWORKS/KEYSHOT/CREO/AUTOCAD) - is the timecapsule connection good enough to support editing and updating these files?
I know i may be asking a question that many have before, but as a bit of a technical novice I wanted a clear-cut answer to my specific circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated.
(*can i use this WD hard-drive that is connected to the Time Capsule as a back up? so that the time machine back-ups/any back ups are also backed up onto this one? can the WD be a backup for the TC?)

How to create a all virtual machines collection.

I need to create a collection of all virtual machines. There are only hyper-v VMs. I thought it would be an Attribute of the System Resource attribute class, but I don't see anything there.

SharePoint 2010 - Create new site collection in existing web application with different existing content DB

I have a SharePoint 2010 root level site collection SC1 in web application WEBAPP1. I want to create copy of that site collection in same web application WEBAPP1. Apart from Import/Export, Restore/Backup options, will following approach work? If yes , how?
I took backup of content database of web application.
Restored database with different name
Mounted Content database to this WEBAPP1 by assigning new ID to DB
Created new site collection by using this newly mounted DB
Site collection gets created successfully but content does not appear.
Please guide if i can achieve desired functionality by using this approach.

It is because the Site GUID is identical, and each GUID can only be present on the farm once. You can use Backup-SPSite/Restore-SPSite (which is full-fidelity, unlike Export-SPWeb/Import-SPWeb), which will generate a new GUID for the restore Site Collection,
even in the same Web App.

How to create a second Virtual Machine alongside my existing XP-Mode over Win7-Pro 64-bit

At present I have XP-Mode installed over Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
I want to add another virtual machine to the same Virtual PC, so that I shall be able to use it to boot the second virtual machine from Acronis Bootable CD-ROM based on WindowsPE 3.1.
I suppose I will not start both XP-Mode and the Acronis Bootable media simultaneously, to prevent overload of memory etc., but still I would like the two virtual machines to co-exist on the same Virtual PC over Win7-Pro 64-bit.
So, how do I go about installing/configuring the second virtual machine?

Pooled Desktop Collection Management

Hello,
I have created pooled Win7 virtual desktop collection which is working fine. When users disconnect from a desktop by click X in top right corner rather than logging off I want to be able to go in and right click the desktop and choose to log them off
like I would in a Citrix environment but I do not see this in the mgmt. interface. Do I have to use Hyper-V manager to do this or am I missing a mgmt. tool here?

Hi,
In Server Manager -- RDS -- <your collection> you should see a list of connections. You can right-click on a disconnected collection and choose Logoff. To see the most up to date list click Tasks -- Refresh above the connections.
You may also do the above using the RDS powershell commands if you prefer.

Issue in adding Space to the existing Virtual Machine from added repository

Hi,
I'm facing issue in adding Space to the existing Virtual Machine (Guest OS) from added repository.
Environment details :
VM Server : /OVS => 130GB
/OVS/935970F2CC2D4B4391701397517F1001/ => 512 GB
Things I have done :
•     I created a VM (Guest OS) in the VM Server with 120 GB
•     After creating the VM (Guest OS) , When I tried adding a VIRTUAL DISK of size 150 GB , I got an error “Maximum available Disk space is only 10GB”.
My query :
•     Will I be able to add space to Existing VM from the added Repository ( /OVS/935970F2CC2D4B4391701397517F1001/ ) , whose system.img is stored in path /OVS/running_pool/34_rhel/ .
Kindly help me out in this.

Hi all,
I checked with Oracle on the above and got the info currently , the we can utilise only the space available in the existing repo and cannot extend to additional repo.
Work around is : Clone it to the other repo , or Use Symbolic link .

Creating new Enterprise wiki site collection or creating a new subsite, or creating a new library

I have SharePoint 2013 web application, which has enterprise wiki site collection for our finance department. Now I need to create a new site for our HR department.
The two sites will differ in the following:-
Each department have different permission. For example each department have different users for who can approve, edit/create.
Each department will use different EnterpriseWiki page layout. As each department will have different wiki category columns (different site columns).
Also each department will use different metadata navigation.
The two sites will have the following in common:-
The same master page. Seatle.html.
So I can not determine which approach I should follow:-
To create a new enterprise wiki site collection for our HR department.
Create a new enterprise wiki library inside the current site collection representing the HR enterprise wiki.
To create a new subsite ?

Given that each will have different permissions I would go with a separate site collection. That will provide the best security basis. You could do it with a sub site, but it will be easier to maintain the security as a separate site
collection.

Yes i know that having different permission & different page layouts will push toward creating separate site collections. but i found a major linking problem when using different site collections (i mean adding links which reference other site collections
pages), let take the following example:-
1. I have Site collection A & site collection B.
2. now inside SCA i create a new wiki page named "Test.aspx" page.
3. then inside SCA i add a link to this wiki page from another wiki page.
4. also inside SCB i also add a link to the Test.aspx page.
After that let say i modify the Test.asxp page name & title to be "NewTest.aspx" , which will affect the page URL which will be
http:.../NewTest.aspx/ instead of
http.../Test.aspx/. now inside SCA all the links to the old Test.aspx page will automatically updated to reference the NewTest.aspx so that the links will not break. but inside SCB pages, the links will not be modified and will keep referencing Test.asxp
which no more exists ... so can you advice please if there is a way to overcome this problem , and if i create sub-site representing Site collection B will this solve the problem ?

the site. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: User cannot be found.
Below are the DLL versions of my installation.
