Creating a "West Wing Effect"?

this really got nothing to do with FCP. But I'll see if I can get any help here anyway!
I've been watching West Wing, and I'm very impressed with the glow they create around all objects that are white when they're in the "west wing".
For example, white shirts, paper, lights. They all have a (yellow-ish) glow around them, sort of like a materialistic aura or something. If such a thing excist.
Is that effect created by using some special camera filters, or is it color correction or some other post production technique involved.
I'll get some screenshots of it and post a link if anyone need it to understand my otherwise blurry post!

There's some chroma glow filters out there (I think FCP might even have one included, if not, www.nattress.com) and they have you select a target colour, then select the glow colour. On it's own it's a bit rudimentary, but playing around with composite modes and blurs and such should give you the desired effect. Good luck.

  • How can I create a video with effects using my ipad?

    How can I create a video with effects (sepia, B&W, Negative, oval or any other shape borders) using my ipad?  I would Like to keep a higher res and also be able to shrink it down to email or send in a MMS. Or should I just upload it to my PC and mess with it there? Some of the apps I have are very easy to use compared to the learning curve needed for video editing software.
    Thanks

    Thats the Problem . . . how many apps do I have to try until I find the one I want? I noticed a few will render the video thus losing its original size. When I went to edit it more in iMovie the video was smaller--not good. And what software do you suggest, Templeton, for the PC? I love the apps because they are easy. I dont have hours to mess around on a software to figure out if its something I want. Im looking for simplicity. Maybe Ill get more into it later. I just want to record simple video of my playing the guitar for self analysis and create a short video for family and friends.
    Apps:
    iMovie
    CinemaFXV
    VideoFix
    Cartoonatic
    Video illusion
    VidEditor
    Software:
    Windows Movie maker (wont accept .mov files)
    After Effects (Too little time, so much to learn)
    Wondershare (Very easy but little choices)
    VideoPad (Again. Few choices)

    I'm trying to figure out the best way to create a similar line effect to this in illustrator, any ideas?
    Thank you!

    Draw a black spikes (vertically), option drag a copy, make a blend specified steps.
    Copy paste in front, rotate 180 degrees, adjust position
    Draw a circle on top, use as a mask.
    Rotate all about 30 degrees.

  • How can I create a shadow text effect?

    How can I add a blur effect to text on a BufferedImage. I am trying to create a shadow text effect. Here is what I have currently.
    BufferedImage image = new BufferedImage(500,120,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    Rectangle2D Rectangle = new Rectangle2D.Double(0,0,500,120);
    Graphics graphics = image.getGraphics();
    Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) graphics;
    g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
    g2d.setPaint(Color.white);
    g2d.fill(Rectangle);
    g2d.draw(Rectangle);
    //Shadow text
    g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
    shadow = new TextLayout("Shadow Text", new Font("Serif", Font.BOLD, 70), g2d.getFontRenderContext());
    g2d.setPaint(Color.lightGray);
    shadow.draw(g2d, 13, 103);
    //Main text
    g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
    text = new TextLayout("Shadow Text", new Font("Serif", Font.BOLD, 70), g2d.getFontRenderContext());
    g2d.setPaint(Color.black);
    text.draw(g2d, 10, 100);
    I found a blur effect but it affect the whole image not just the shadow. Here is an example.
    BufferedImage image = new BufferedImage(500,120,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    Rectangle2D Rectangle = new Rectangle2D.Double(0,0,500,120);
    Graphics graphics = image.getGraphics();
    Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) graphics;
    g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
    g2d.setPaint(Color.white);
    g2d.fill(Rectangle);
    g2d.draw(Rectangle);
    //Shadow text
    g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
    shadow = new TextLayout("Shadow Text", new Font("Serif", Font.BOLD, 70), g2d.getFontRenderContext());
    g2d.setPaint(Color.lightGray);
    shadow.draw(g2d, 13, 103);
    Blur filter
    float ninth = 1.0f / 9.0f;
    float[] kernel = {ninth, ninth, ninth, ninth, ninth, ninth, ninth, ninth, ninth};
    biop = new ConvolveOp(new Kernel(3, 3, kernel));
    op = (BufferedImageOp) biop;
    image = op.filter(image,null);
    //Main text
    g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
    text = new TextLayout("Shadow Text", new Font("Serif", Font.BOLD, 70), g2d.getFontRenderContext());
    g2d.setPaint(Color.black);
    text.draw(g2d, 10, 100);

    I thought I answered that question?!
    In your code above, watch out for statement:
    image = op.filter(image,null); The resulted buffered image is new, so you are updating the reference held in variable image.
    Unfortunately variable g2d is still refering to a graphics object back by the original image, so:
    g2d.setPaint(Color.black);
    text.draw(g2d, 10, 100);renders on the first buffered image, not the second.
    Here's my code again, touched up a bit.

  • How do I create a 'write on' effect?

    Hello,
    Say I had an image of some text that spelt 'TOM' - is there anyway I could animate a mask that makes it look like the image is written on?
    My logic is coming from doing the same thing in after effects but I'm aware edge animate is very different.
    Please let me know if there are anyways of creating a 'write on' effect.
    Thanks!
    Tom

    Hello Kelly,
    Here is a method that I use:
    First place a photo of a wall or floor and use "Live Trace" default
    You will end up with a black and white texture like this:
    Then Select all the white areas and delete them. If you have a lot of black texture, feel free to delete as much as you want. You can always copy and paste pieces wherever you want.
    Now Place your design on top of the texture you have created. Then send the design to the back.
    The last step is to select the outlined text and the compound shapes and apply "Subtract From Shape Area" with Pathfinder. Please note that this option does not work on CS3 from the menu (one of the hundred of bugs of this lousy version), so please use the Pathfinder Window.
    And this is the end result:
    This was a quick sample, but I am sure you can do something a lot better than this sample. I think the difficult part is to get a good photo. Maybe next time I will use a damaged concrete floor or wall photo.
    I hope this helps!

  • CS4 I have created compositions in After Effects CS 4 but when I import them into Premiere Pro CS4

    CS4 I have created compositions in After Effects CS 4 but when I import them into Premiere Pro CS4 they only appear in the monitor when the play button is activated. The other clips appear without a problem. I noticed that the same situation arises when I dynamically link to Encore CS4. What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you Ann. But the problem is when switched on the AE clips on the timeline are only viewable when I start the project (ie press the space bar) and as it also doesn’t appear in Encore I am afraid to spend a great deal of time creating a DVD with these clips not appearing. Any advice?
    Regards and again many thanks

  • Tutorial on creating a silhouette glow effect in After Effects

    How To Create a Silhouette Lighting Effect in Adobe After Effects - YouTube

    One other thing I noticed just now.  A current script file (one from 2009 anyway) that I downloaded from this page http://www.videocopilot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10946  has a .jsx extension.  And I don't have a scripts folder in my AE folder at C:\program files\adobe\Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files\Scripts) as described on that page.
    So I'm assuming that the current .jsx scripts will not work in my old v4.1.
    But I do have an 'MM Script' folder with files that have .mm extensions with names like blink.mm, cmpaud.mm, copyvalu.mm, cornpin.mm, dbspring.mm, frmeffect.mm, gravity.mm, etc.
    So I do apparently have the ability to use some scripts in v4.1, maybe just not the same kind of script files like the .jsx scripts.  But I do not have a 'Scripts' selection under file as described on the page at the link above.  And I checked through all my menu bar drop down selections and I don't see one for 'Scripts' at all, yet I do have the MM Scripts folder in my AE folder.
    Then I also have a 'Plug-ins' folder where all of my effects are contained.
    Does anyone know how I can access the scripts that I do have in v4.1 ?...  I can't find a 'Scripts' selection anywhere.
    Is there a place where I can get other older .mm scripts?
    Am I correct in figuring that .jsx scripts will not work in AE v4.1 ?
    Thanks again,
    digi

  • How to create a "fast forward" effect?

    Hi there,
    I want to create a fast forward effect of a section of video that I have. I have speeded up the section to 2000% normal speed, and added a noise effect. That looks ok.
    Now, ideally, I would like to perfect the effect by adding the classic ">>" fast forward image, flashing on and off, and also by having the audio sounding sped up also.
    Can somebody please offer some guidance on how to go about that?
    Thanks very much guys,
    Mike

  • Need to create a textinput with effects

    I need to create a textinput with effects- it should show a blue icon infront of it when the icon is focused and the blue icon should fade afterwards. I am pretty sure I need to use skin but the problem is I have only two states with textinput control and not sure how I would use those to ensure a handling mouse hovering effect. Right now I am not able to create a custom component bacuae I have to modify the whole code wherever there is textinput control.
    Thanks in advance.

    Im in the middle of creating a "Thriller" like video with camera shot footage. I am trying to get ideas for creating a gloomy-like effect to give the "Thriller" theme to the video and looking for some ideas. Could anyone suggest some effects I could place on the video?
    Thanks

    If your not into AE or desire to use a post processing tool (or you have an underpowered system), then you can do the poor mans/quick FX process.  I render the cuts only project out to a high resolution clip.  Then create a new project from which to apply FX to that clip.  Doing so will free up a lot of resources (as Premiere won't have to calculate all the other edits in the chain from the original edit) and give you more real-time feedback, (and if you really mess up, you won't screw up the original edit).
    While you can sample the lumetri looks filters, you could also experiment and try desaturated colors or apply a look as a baseline and then add from there.  I will sometimes create a matte in Photoshop to use as a de-focused overly for vignette effect.
