Creating a ZTable in portal database

HI,
We have a case where we need to create some ZTable to strore some custom values. We can create this table in ECC and access it in Portal applications but it would be better if we can extend the same database of portal to accomodate few tables. How can we achieve this? Which is the best method to do this?
Regards,
Nirmal

Hi Nirmal,
Its always recommented not to directly access the Portal Database. The best practice would be to create a table in ECC and expose a BAPI for accessing this from Portal.

Vivek

    Is there a way to create custom tables in the portal database in EP6?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for responding, Nick.
    We want to be able to display informational messages on the logon page before the user logs in.  Currently we make changes to several ASP files in EP5 to display the messages.  We want to be able to give privileged users the ability to enter the message, enter start/end date, etc.  We want to do this in EP6 as well.

    My Requirement is user can register his/her user id in SAP Portal 7.3 UME database.
    Please suggest me.

    Hi Amit,
    Generated Documentation (Untitled)
    This is what you're looking for, there's no real cook-book -- though Amey mentioned there might be some material on SDN, perhaps some tutorials.
    You should be looking into com.sap.security.api.IUserFactory, methods newUser(String) which gives you and IUserMaint and commitUser(IUserMaint, IUserAccount) -- IUserAccount can be obtained using com.sap.security.api.IUserAccountFactory, method newUserAccount(String)
    Hope it helps,

  • How to copy/move Portal database from one machine to another?

    I am receiving a ORA-22973 error (size of object identifier exceeds maxmum size allowed) on the wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table when attempting to import my entire "portal30" schema from one database to another on different Windows NT Servers.
    Background: I had Portal 3.0.9.8 installed, configured, and running with the following setup:
    Machine 1: Windows NT 4.0 SP 6, Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2, Oracle Portal 3.0.9.8
    Machine 2: Windows NT 4.0 SP 6, Oracle 8i Database 8.1.7.0.0
    We no longer have use of Machine 2 and needed to move the database over to Machine 1.
    I performed the following steps:
    1. Installed Oracle 8i database 8.1.7.0.0 on Machine 1.
    2. Set up the tablespaces in the database on Machine 1 to match the same names and sizes of the tablespaces in the database on Machine 2.
    3. Used the Oracle "exp" command to export the entire database that resided on Machine 2.
    4. Copied the ".dmp" file to Machine 1.
    5. Used the Oracle "imp" command to import the entire database on Machine 1.
    6. The import completed successfully with warnings. But I had received the ORA-22973 error during the import process.
    7. After it completed I compared the list of tables and packages in the "portal30" schema between the two databases. The wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table is missing.
    8. I tried to export and import only the wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table between the two databases, but continue to receive the ORA-22973 error.
    Without the table being created, access to the portal cannot be achieved.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Is there anyway to create the wwsec_enabler_config_info$ table without receiving the noted error?
    2. Is there any other workable way to get the portal database from Machine 2 to Machine 1?
    I am aware of the portal import/export utilities but that would require me to run through the 2 hour install of Portal 3.0.9.8 on the database on Machine 1 and then individually export and import all the portal components (security, pages, applications, content library, etc). I merely wanted to transfer the entire database from one machine to another, so I felt the Oracle exp/imp utilities would be quicker and less work.

    Hi,
    I've been hitting problems with Portal 3.0.9.8.1 against 8.1.7.2.1 on NT - i.e., Intermedia not working at all, and have been advised by support to move back to 8.1.7.1.1.
    I don't want to lose any of my content in the Portal since the db upgrade and am wondering on what is the best way to do this.
    The version of the Portal will be the same so I am hoping I can just use the Portal export and import utilities, as afterall, it is just data and the schema structures are the same between db versions. I'm also hoping that the Portal export doesn't use the standard Oracle EXP tool as it doesn't work anymore on 8.1.7.2.1 on NT!!

  • Moving the Portal Database

    I have attempted to move the portal database onto another host machine. When I move the database and point the portal at the database everything seems to work fine except for the administration area of the portal. When I try to navigate to the administration area I get an error. Can anyone help with a resolution for this?

    -  http://blog3.daqureshi.com/archive/2008/12/16/11.aspx
    6. update/change the file usr\sap\<sid>\sys\profile\default.prf
    7. start the configtool and within the keystore change the jdbc connection parameters so that it points to the new DB Server
    8. save this action!!!!
    9. exit and restart the configtool and look if its connecting to the new DB Server
    10. exit the confconfigtool.
    11. start your SAP System

  • How to enable create user option in portal under user administration?

    Hi,
    In Portal, in user administration tab, always the create user and Copy to  New user option is disabled, how can i enable those?
    -Siva

    If the AS ABAP is your datasource for your users there is NO WAY you can create users in the portal UME.
    &#9679;     If the UME has read-only access, you cannot modify user attributes stored in the ABAP system, like first name and last name. You can modify attributes stored in the UME database, like street. Even if read-only access is assigned, users can still change their own passwords.
    &#9679;     If the UME has read-write access, you can create users using the tools of the J2EE Engine. Users created in this way are stored as users in the ABAP system. Extended user data that cannot be stored in the standard ABAP user record is stored in the database of the UME.
    in the read/write access the users are created only in the ABAP side and not the java. If you have the read access you cannot create users in the abap side. hence you need the SAP_BC_JSF_COMMUNICATION role to create users in the AS ABAP.....
    Trust me .......bottomline ....you cannot create users in the JAVA UME if you have AS ABAP as your datasource !!!!
    hope this helps..

  • Moving portal database from NT to HP-UX

    I am moving an existing 9iAS portal database from NT to HP-UX. 9iAS was already installed on HP-UX and is being used for a forms server and reports server. Do I need to do anything else but simply create a new database and export from NT and import onto HP?

    Hi,
    You can make use of the Heterogeneous System copy tool available on SMP for this purpose. You will also find a pdf guide for the same.
    Cheers!!

  • A new application built on a schema not in the portal database

    I want to create a new application using the create "new application" function of the "build" tab of Portal.
    I want this application to use a schema not in the Portal Database. The schema the application has to use belongs to a different database residing on the same machine the Portal database resides.
    But the Portal "Application Name and Schema" form does allow me to choose a schema outside the Oracle Portal database.
    I run Oracle Portal Version: 3.0.7.6.2 on WNT.
    Thank for any suggestion.

    Maurizio
    Carol's right. Create a schema in the local database then create a db link to the remote db connecting as that schema user (or some other of your choice). In my experience this has to be a public db link.
    I run a portal application against a database on another sun box. There's some hassles, but it works ok mostly.
    The db link connects as the user to the remote database and I grant privileges in the remote db to that db link user. I also have public synonyms in the portal database that point to the objects in the remote db. I have public synonyms in the remote database that sort out the schema of the objects required.
    This sounds complicated and I've explained it in a rush, but if you sit down and work it through it's not so bad. You may find a better way, but after several trials I've got a setup that works.
    Also, when I create a form I always refer only to the synonym - never to a schema.object. That way you can adjust the synonym easily without rewriting your report.
    I always make reports from sql for the reason that you can change the sql, though I always refer to my synonym never to schema.object.
    Session info doesn't travel well to the remote instance. I've had to build a work-around to get my table triggers in the remote instance to figure out who the portal user is because wwctx_api.get_user returns public.
    I've been unable to directly call procedures in the remote database from portal components, but I've got around that by creating wrapper procedures in the local database.
    It hasn't been a trivial exercise, but it does work.

    Edited by: C@rlitos on Sep 30, 2009 6:14 PMHave you configured your Infra with a new hostname on a different port ?
    Unless, you had installed your OAS with custom ports, and have not used the default ports for the components, your lsnr_token for the newurl has a problem. orasso and sso should be configured at 7777, and by default they configure at that port. That means that your newURL should be pointing to http://newurl.com:7777/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login for the ls_login_url.
    This might have happened due to some error in registering your portal with the SSO. Have you used custom ports for your installations?
    Additionally, did you configure your newurl on port 80?

  • How to access the portal database ?

    Hi ,

    2. How to insert data to the Table from the abstract portal component program ?
    Please provide me some direction to proceed .
    plz send me the steps how to access the Database using SQL.

    Edited by: Smita Mohanty on Nov 14, 2008 9:21 AM

    Hi Smita,
    In case your portal has MS SQL server as its databse, then I am giving the step by step directions to achieve 90% of what you wish to do. Rest 10% you can try on your own.
    Go through my article given below:
    [How to Create a Web Service using Enterprise JavaBeans|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/b00917dc-ead4-2910-3ebb-b0a63e49ef10]
    First go through pages 1-12 which will help you to create user/table in MS SQL database as well as create a data source in Visual Admin. Page 19 will give you the code which you can use in your Portal component to access the tables you have created in your SQL database.
    I hope your problem gets solved.

  • Error message "CREATE TABLE permission denied in database 'master'"

    I am starting an application and I get the error message above. I do not want to creat tables in the master database - therefore I created my own database and added it to the Connection string:
    DATABASE=TEST
    But still the same message.

    Hi,
    As said you have created the new database and want create a table. Please make sure you are connecting to the right database. If you are unable to get the connection string of the newly created database, please go to the management portal and click
    on the newly created database and click on dashboard to get the connection strings for the database. Then you can add the same information from where you are trying to create table with the database name to proceed further.
    It seems that you are connecting to master instead of connect against your new database that you have created. Once you connect to your database you will need permission to create tables. If you are "dbmanager" role you should not have any problem
    to create it.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Error connecting to portal database using alias

    i am using Connector framework api to connect to portal database.
    in <b>visual administrator -> JDBC connector</b>. I click on <b>runtime</b> tab
    Under <b>Resources</b> i find <b>Data Sources</b> and <b>Drivers</b>.
    Under Data sources I see SAPSR3DB. In Main tab on right hand pane I find many other aliases called SAP/BC_UME and SAP/BC_WDDR etc. Which one do I use in creating a connection.
    IConnectorGatewayService cgService = (IConnectorGatewayService) PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources().getService("com.sap.portal.ivs.connectorservice.connector");
    ConnectionProperties cp = new ConnectionProperties(request.getLocale(),request.getUser());
    IConnection connection = cgService.getConnection("SAPSR3DB",cp);
    No system found for alias SAPSR3DB.

    Hi,
    If you want to use the PortalService IConnectorGatewayService you will have to create a JDBC System in the System Landscape of the Portal and create a System Alias with usermapping.
    You can then create a c connection to this JDBC System with the IConnectorGatewayServcie using the specified System alias.
    But if you want to directly connect to the System Database you can also use OpenSQL in your Portalapplication and lookup the Connection using JNDI:
          InitialContext ctx= new InitialContext();
          ds= (DataSource) ctx.lookup("jdbc/SAPSR3DB");
          java.sql.Connection conn= ds.getConnection();
    // user your connection here and close all jdbc objects finally!
    Best regards,
    Stefan Brauneis
