Creating an enhanced ebook in epub format with video for iPad, need guidance

Has any one done this before? I just found this and it is the perfect solution for what I am trying to accomplish. Here is a screen shot of a and enhanced ebook i dowloaded from the apple book store.

If you want to make a publication from InDesign to iPad, you can also use Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. With it you can add videos to InDesign layout. Videos has to be H.264 encoded, but you can do that with Adobe Media Encoder which is free utility, comes with indesign CS5... and after finishing layout, you can bundle the whole thing to iPad App...(this is strongly simplified description of the process... but anyway, it´s possible)

Once you pull the data, goup on the date monthly, most recent first ,and then graph the summaries in the group.

Building ios Newsstand App with AS3 for iPad?

Hi,
How do I build an IOS newsstand App with AS3 for iPad? I will not need any updates for this app. It will be just a pdf magazine inside, same contents forever.
I cant find any tutorials/introduction on how to build this.
I get the idea on how to create normal ios App, but creating Newsstand App really confussed me.

The in-app subscription is something you're going to have to tackle. Are you selling this magazine on a subscription basis? If you are selling it, things can get tricky or possible. I'm not fluent on the latest in-app purchase integration or if there is any planned integration. A look on the ANE download page (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/native-extensions-for-air.html) doesn't show any ANE support for it. You could google around for an ANE that supports in-app subscriptions of course.

Create a GPT partition table and format with a large volume (solved)

I'm having trouble creating a GPT partition table for a large volume (~6T). It is a RAID 5 (hardware) with 3 hard disk drives having a size of 3T each (thus the resulting 6T volume).
I tried creating a GPT partition table with gdisk but it just fails at creating it, stopping here (I've let it run for like 3 hours...):

I also tried with parted but I get the same result. Out of luck, I created a GPT partition table from Windows 7 and 2 NTFS partitions (15G and the rest of space for the other) and it worked just fine. I then tried to format the 15G partition as ext4 but, as for gdisk, mkfs.ext4 will just never stop.

To make things clear: sda is an SSD on which Archlinux has been freshly installed (sda1 for root, sda2 for home, sda3 for swap), sde is a hard disk drive having Windows 7 installed on it. My goal with the 15G partition is to format it so I can mount /var on the HDD rather than on the SSD. The large volume will be for storage.
So if anyone has any suggestion that would help me out with this, I'd be glad to read.

Well, I finally decided to use a software RAID as I will not share this partition with Windows anyway and it seems a better choice than the fake RAID.
Therefore, I used the mdadm utility to create my RAID 5:
# mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md0 --level=5 --raid-devices=3 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1
# mkfs.ext4 -v -m .1 -b 4096 -E stride=32,stripe-width=64 /dev/md0
It works like a charm.

Text formatting in Pages for iPad 2

I am trying to apply text formattting within a document in pages. It will not allow me to format text within a sentence to bold or italics for specific words. The fonts in question do have these formats as options, but pressing the corresponding format button does nothing. I can change the style to lists, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

It is not built in, but you can at least create and edit footnotes (I do not use end notes, but from limited testing, it appears to work with endnotes as well but converts them to footnotes). It sounds complicated when you break it down into steps as I do below, but it really is easy and intuitive.
FIRST: The underlying concept. If you have the latest Pages for iPad, then when it imports a Word document it imports footnotes (and endnotes) and you can edit them.
With that in mind, here is how you can create footnotes on the iPad.
#1 In Word create a one short sentence shell text with a short footnote, like "See the cat run /fn1" "fn/1 The cat was black").
#2 Import that shell document into your iPad, say with email "open using Pages."
#3 Save that shell document as your sour dough starter so to speak.
#4 Now create your new Pages iPad document.
#5 When you are ready to create your FIRST new footnote, copy and paste the shell sentence with shell footnote from your saved starter shell document into your new iPages document.
#5. Edit the shell sentence and footnote to a real sentence and footnote in new document.
#6 Thereafter, as you add new footnotes, either copy / paste one from new document or shell and edit. You will see they renumber properly, even when moved.

What video format to export for Ipad Apps

I am new in export flash to ipad. I tried to export my video as FLV for my ipad apps, it plays but its lagging or jerky.
I had tried other formats like mp4, f4v, m4v or mov it just doesn't play
Wonder if anyone knows what video format to export for my ipad apps?

[email protected], on an iPad, here's what I did to get the FLV loading and taking up (most) of the screen. You can't use the FLV Component skins so you have to use the UI Components as markc888 suggested below your comment. My only gripe with this solution is that I can't get the fullScreen button to make the video go full screen.

Problems with AIM for iPad

I am using the free AIM messaging app for iPad and having a problem getting the Buddy list to stabilize.
The app keeps changing my Buddy's names (actual name reverts to the "username") and when I delete one it reappears as an "offline" Buddy.
I can't find any form of a user manual or help function to explain what I'm doing wrong.
Can someone help me figure out how to create and manage a Buddy list with this app?
Or maybe suggest a better messaging app for iPad?

I didn't have the same problem, but many others. Our iPad AIM and iPhone AIM both had issues with not showing as available to each other sometimes, or other buddies not showing up. I could delete them and add them over and over, yet their availability was rare or random. I was also annoyed by the Facebook integration, and the fact that the preference to turn Facebook integration OFF didn't work.
It turns out that all my preferences that wouldn't stick and buddies that wouldn't show were solved by downloading the Mac version of AIM and changing several settings there. I dragged some fresh buddies from "recent buddies" to the "Buddies" or "Family" group and that account started showing them properly on the mobile devices immediately. The Facebook integration had to be turned off via the Computer version of AIM as well. Once AOL detects the changes on the PC or Mac version of AIM, the mobile version starts to behave.

How To Set Up Airport Express To Use With iPad2 For My Needs ?

On the advice of several people in a audio forum, I just purchase an Apple Airport Express. I will be using it with my new iPad 2. What I need to accomplish is using my iPad2 to stream subscription based music from the internet to the Airport Express, and for the Airport Express to connect via toslink cable to the DAC in my audio system.
What I am not sure about is how to set up my Airport Express to accomplish this. I do have a wireless network in my home, but wish to keep the wireless connectivity between the Airport Express and the iPad2 separate from it.

Deggie, firstly, thank you for your attempt to help. I greatly appreciate it. I connected it via the ethernet cable to the router since when I reconfigured the Airport Express adding it to my existing wireless system, the iPad could not connect to anything until I unplugged the Airport Express. I set it up for an ethernet connection to my router based on that experience.
Either the Ipad does not seem able to send anything to the Airport Express, or the AEX is not passing anything on. I also tried streaming a song stored on the iPad 2 to the AEX with no result, so it is not an issue with the subscription channel.
I don't own a miniplug cable of any sort for further testing, but the toslink cable is brand new, and was literally taken out of its package and plugged in, so I feel it extremely unlikely it is the issue. I've also tested it in three inputs on the DAC, so it is definitely not an issue with it.
I have a question though. You said "when you start your subscription and go to Airplay, does the iPad see the AEX?" You may be on to something there. How do I "go to Airplay" I thought it was just automatic? Also, how do I "select it"? This may be the problem.

Keynote remote app no longer working with keynote for ipad

noticed after upgrading that the keynote remote does not pair with keynote for the ipad. Any suggestion on a resolution or anyone else experiencing this issue?

I didn't realize until I went to a class to lecture in front of a couple hundred students that what worked on Friday no longer worked on Monday. (I upgraded to iOS 5 over the weekend.) My iPad with lecture slides was plugged in 25 feet away. I finally recruited a student to tap the iPad screen when I needed the next slide. A nightmare. What is usually slick and seamless was a wreck.
Here's my deal. My remote app works fine at home where my iPod Touch and iPad are on the same wifi network. At school they're on different networks for some reason. Bluetooth doesn't work anywhere. So Apple needs to find this bug and fix it. I can't believe whoever is responsible for this didn't test this out before they released iOS 5. Sheesh.

Default cell format in Numbers for iPad

Is there a way to assure that when I insert a row in Numbers for iPad, that I get the text keyboard (and not the numbers keyboard) when I double-tap the cell to edit it?

As long as the row is formatted as text you will get the text keyboard and not the number, date or formula keyboard. Generally what happens when you insert a row it copies the format of the cell above.
I have only had trouble occasionally when using a form and the cell is not formatted the way I need it to be. Usually when that has happened I have been inserting and deleting rows in an almost random fashion.
When I am in the sheet itself it is easy to tap the "T" to get the text input.

Need help with h264 for ipads

need recomendation for cross platform h264s encoding settings for ipads 2, 3, iphones, and pc. my typical settings are in adobe media encoder are:
720x480, 29.97fps lower (do VBR2 target 0.50 mbps max 0.80 mbps (our service/host provider is using amazon servers and recommending these targets which IMO are to low)
Profile is Main and level is 3.1 seems to play on some with io5 but not io6
streaming compatiblity setting is standard.
If you can help me I would appreciated any advice.

Dealing with "video for other Platform/OS" message

Some advice please.
On my home network, I have my WVC200 camera attached to the Linksys router via a cable; and I am able to control the camera and see video from a Vista OS machine. When I try to see video on a wireless laptop, the message "Video for other Platform/OS" appears on the Linksys control screen.
I am able to log in to the wireless camera from the laptop; pan/tilt the camera; but cannot see video on the laptop.
Should I be able to see video on a second PC on the network ?
I have set up the WVC200 camera with a fixed IP of 192.168.1.120.
I am using freedns.afraid.org DDNS using port forwarding to port 2000
Please help.

Movie download issues with iTunes for iPad

I purchased a 3.5 GB movie and have 8 GB of free space. The download starts throug iTunes, makes it about half way through the download and then starts over. It's done this around 5 times now. My OS is up to date. Anyone experienced this problem and have any suggestions? It even boots me out of the movie if I'm watching it while downloading before it starts over.
